You could tell that the dentist knew what she was doing and have a temporary solution for the time being at a nominal charge. My mom went here as a new patient simply for an exam and the appearance of the front desk staff was very unprofessional and off putting. Then the dental assistant was a younger woman she smelled extremely strong of cigarette smoke. I thought I was in a bar. Then I was laying in the bed in exam room while the dental hygienist was showing me my X-rays on the monitor and the monitor fell off on to the floor. Then the dental hygienist said "thats gonna make her pop that baby out" mind you the woman supposedly pregnant smelled HEAVILY like cigarettes. This is a dental office why am I choking on cigarette smell. Then they proceed to try and put the monitor back on while my mom was laying on the bed still. What it would have fallen on the patient? I wish it did this place should be sued. Also there was no paper towels in the bathroom and it was disgusting the trash was all full in bathroom floors dirty, mind you my mom was the first patient there so shouldn't it be clean? Whoever the management is needs to raise their standards for staff for 1. And for 2. Make sure the monitor screen is all the way on !!!!! Do NOT go here and waste your time. I have been going here for about four years now and today was my worst experience with this clinic ever. i think she was an intern or a student, but she had came into the room and asked if she could switch places with the lady that was currently working on me. when she started working on me, she was super rough. She made my gums bleed. I could feel the blood in my mouth from all the pushing she was doing. they had to scan my teeth for retainers and they had asked her if she knew how to do it and she said yes. when she had the machine in my mouth, she clearly did not know what she was doing. it hurt really bad and she kept messing up and going over it again. she was rushing for no reason and being really rough. I didn't say anything because I was like OK maybe shes new but then someone came in to check on her and asked her a question and she answered with "ughh I don't know" mind you the question was about knowing how to do what she was doing already. what do you mean you don't know what you're doing while having the machine in my mouth. she would get up and then leave and then come back and then leave again and I heard her asking for help so I don't understand why I was left alone with her if she didn't know what she was doing or why was no one there to supervise her. she left, and then somebody else came in and continued the process. Then they sat me up and tried scheduling me while I had no wire and no rubber bands in my mouth. He asked me if they had scheduled me yet and I said no and he goes " oh umm do you know where she went?" i'm sorry last time i checked i was the PATIENT. How am i supposed to know where your coworker is at. I was still very confused about the no wires and no rubber bands so I asked "is this how it's supposed to stay?" the guy goes "oh right I have to do the rest" and then proceeded to lay me back down and continue. when he finished he scheduled me which I don't even think he did that right either and then i left. these are just a few things at the top of my head, but never again. the only person that actually seemed like she knew what she was doing was the lady in the front. she was super nice. Worst provider customer experience ever. Trying to get a live person on the phone is like pulling teeth and they do not return calls after messages are left. During my exam, they advised me that fluoride treatments were not covered by my insurance, which was fine as I do not use fluoridated products. They did, however, do a cancer screening without my knowledge or consent at the time, knowing full well that many insurance plans don't cover it. My insurance does not cover that test, so now I'm stuck with the bill. Pretty shady way to practice, in my opinion. Will never go back. Zero stars!! read more

The new dentist I have was very nice and explained everything he tested for with moving my tongue and looking at my teeth and explaining the x-rays super well and I appreciated the brief explanations! As for my hygienist, Brianna Rogers is by far one of the BEST hygienists I've had ever! She asks for sensitive areas in the mouth before doing her cleaning and she was very gentle all over! Called to make an appointment as a new patient because they are on my insurance. First, the girl who answered the phone was rude as heck. Second, they have a ridiculous policy that they won't do cleanings on your first appointment. They said the doctor has to "diagnosis what type of cleaning you need". Botched Tooth extraction. Lingual nerve cut resulting in possible PERMANENT NERVE DAMAGE. Poor Service. Incompetent Management. Woke up during the procedure. 6 weeks on and a second opinion confirmed a terrible job, and piece of tooth left in mouth. Wounds continue to fester/ result in nerve pain. Wasn't until I complained to the Oral Surgeon personally that the office decided they would reach out to me for a follow-up, which is standard procedure for every other office. Avoid this place like the plague. I'd sue if it weren't for that consent form no one explains to you before the procedure. Some background: I am not someone who is nervous about the dentist. I have never had a problem with dental work of any sort, nor any bad reactions to any of the medications. I've never even experienced pain or jaw cramping after extensive work. I have been a patient of Dr. Chen since December 2011. I have had multiple fillings performed by Dr. Chen prior to the awful encounter I recently had. Each filling done by Dr. Chen prior to this involved numbing via oral shot, then a 15 minute wait time for the medication to take effect. At every filling prior to this, after the 15 minute wait time, I was asked if I was fully numbed. If not, they waited an additional 10 minutes and then asked again. I was never worked on until I had stated that I was fully numbed. HOWEVER: 10/16/2012 appointment was for 3 fillings and a set of whitening trays. 2 shots were given. Dr. Chen returned approximately 5 minutes later to begin. Informed Dr. Chen I was not fully numbed and she decided to begin regardless. When Dr. Chen began drilling, I was able to feel it, and stopped her. She then moved to the 2nd tooth, which I was able to feel as well, and I stopped her again. At this point, Dr. Chen gave me another shot on each side. She then moved to the 3rd tooth, which was fully numbed. She drilled the 3rd tooth successfully, then moved back to the 1st tooth. I was able to feel the drilling still, and stopped her. She moved back to the 2nd tooth. I was still able to feel this tooth as well, and stopped her. She gave me another shot at the 2nd tooth's location. Without any waiting at all, she moved back to the 1st tooth. I was still able to feel the drilling, and stopped her yet again. Dr. Chen insisted that I "hang in there" and continued to drill. The pain became unbearable, and I stopped her. She waited approximately 1 minute, and then began again. The pain was still prominent, and I was still able to feel the drilling. I stopped Dr. Chen again, but she again said to "hang in there", and continued drilling. After finishing with the 1st tooth, Dr. Chen moved back to the 2nd tooth. I was still able to feel the drilling, and protested. Dr. Chen paused momentarily, then began again, once again telling me it was "almost done", though drilling continued an additional minute and a half. I was completely unable to speak at the end of my appointment and was charged the full amount without any consideration for what I had endured even though I had made it clear I was in pain during the procedure. I was unable to open my jaw to speak for 2 days. When I was able to speak, I left a voicemail at the office of Dr. Chen explaining the ordeal and asking for some sort of resolution. I received a voicemail on 10/19/2012 from Dr. Chen's office saying only that I needed an appointment to pick up my whitening trays. I received a voicemail on 10/22/2012 from Dr. Chen's office requesting I make an appointment for my whitening trays. I called Dr. Chen's office on 10/24/2012 and spoke with the office manager, Nancy. I explained my ordeal and my frustration. I was informed by the office manager that the issue would be discussed with Dr. Chen and that I would be able to meet with Nancy to resolve the issue during my appointment 10/26/2012. Earlier today I arrived at Dr. Chen's office, picked up my whitening trays and had one filling's bite adjusted. I was not approached by Nancy and had to request her. Nancy informed me that they would not do anything to resolve the issue and would not refund even half of the amount charged for the two fillings that I was able to feel. Needless to say this was one of the WORST experiences I've ever had for anything. I have a high pain tolerance, I've broken my arm, and had 2 wisdom teeth surgically removed. Neither hurt as bad as this drilling. Their customer service is non existent. Their office staff are inefficient and don't give a flick for making things right with customers. Amanda the hygienist is amazing, which is really unfortunate since I'll never go back to this location again. Dr. Chen definitely has the whole 'I don't care about inflicting extreme pain' thing down, and their office manager's excellent at trying to spin every situation into the customer's fault. I spent 20 minutes with her just trying to find new ways that it was *my* fault I was put through such agony. Update: It was determined by a different dentist that the more painful filling was done improperly and needed to be redone. After replacement by that other dentist, it's fine. However the insurance company conducted an investigation and found out that Castle Dental had been billing me out of pocket 100% for many items that were fully covered by the insurance. They overcharged me by $500 just this year alone and are having to process a refund now that they were caught! BEWARE! read more

I paid for my INVISALIGNS in full $5,500 for 44 trays. I used my Dental insurance tht had contracted rates to pay the max $4,300 : I pay $2,300 and they paid $2,000. = $4,300. I contacted the financial office that received all my payments and was told I would receive refund after all payments were received and they calculated what was owed back to me. They sent a refund for $1200 back on July 7.Five months later, mid Nov I received a bill for $750 tht was due in two weeks. I contacted the finance department and was told I paid in full and to contact my local office to see what the charges were for. when I first spoke with the office I was told to send my insurance information in and it would be corrected. After I emailed the insurance papers, they still did not fix the problem and wanted me to come in and talk to billing manager. I was told they made a error on their part and wanted to recharge me for their mistake, saying they do honor contracted rates but that they dont do it for INVISALIGNS. or even adjust the difference! My quoted rate for INVISALIGNS was only $400 more so I was still confused when they lied to me and said it was $1500. more. I only got back 1200 and now they said I OWED 1500. THGS DONT ADD UP. I personally hate the INVISALIGNS and wish I'd went with REGULAR braces and a honest company. IF YOU HAVE INSURANCE WITH CONTRACTED RATES ONLY GET REG. BRACES! THEY WILL NOT BE UPFRONT AND TELL YOU THE TRUTH ABOUT THE RATES. They will have you sign a contract for the amount they want you to pay before you know the contracted rates are much less. And just like in my case, if they make any mistakes the will not own up to their mistakes but try to hide them from you and make up fraudulent charges. They billed me for visits. I was never contacted by Castle with an apology or explanation on what happened. They just sent mel fake charges and tried to cover up there mistake. I had to investigate thgs out and after finally coming to the truth they still refuse to fix their wrong. I was suppose to be on week 25 tray yesterday. This place by far was the worst experience I've ever had with a dentist. The dentist is stressed out, constantly wanting to avoid questions. I believe the Doctor's name is Dr Chen I dealt with. I don't even know where to start, I went there 3 times and it somehow was progressively worse every time I went. The doctor actually would just leave the room while I was talking and then I was told I could not ask her questions as she was with another patient. I tried to express my frustration and it was met with defensiveness and hostility. I was so upset at one point I actually cursed her out then they said they were going to call the cops on me. So When I finally broke down and decided my tooth ache was real enough to drag my feet into a dentist's office, I had no choice but to use Castle dental because of the way my dental insurance works. I, like many others, dislike the idea of visiting the dentist. Duh! We all hate this, and those that are the opposite are weird and we wont talk about them. My first impression was with the booking agent, when I called for the appointment. I explained to her that I have not been to the dentist in a long time, and that based on the clinic's Yelp! reviews I was essentially reluctant to visit them. She assured me in a very friendly voice that she understood my concerns and hoped that I knew how sincere she was that this visit will change my mind. My second impression was with the staff and the Doc. I was sent the paper work ahead of time via email, and was able to fill them out at home. The front desk checked me in, a Tech took my xrays, and asked me if I was here just for the achy tooth, or would I like consult on other issues. This thru me off, as I was fully expecting the Up-Sale after the exam. I told her, that I know I need work, but today lets focus on what hurts. So then I met the doc, Dr. Chen was very forward and professional. She told me what she needed to do to fix the tooth and that I needed a major cleaning, I agreed and then I was sent off to handle the finances of the upcoming procedures. My insurance was able to cover 85% of the service and the front desk staff set me up with a Care Credit to pay the difference. I was to return a few days later for the extraction, The day of the extraction was smooth. Some local pain numbing shots and I was in and out in 45 minutes. I was given a script for antibiotics and vicodin for the pain. The next day the doc checked up on me. So its all good, and I am kind of looking forward to the next visit. I was super hesitant based on some of the reviews. Due to insurance, I had to go here. I was pleasantly surprised. I have a feeling they have made a lot of changes. The bad reviews are over a year old. All of the good reviews are new. Let me give you a little of my history. I have spent the last 10 years in physician practice management and medical billing. I know a little about how an office should run. The front desk girl Brenda is Fantastic! She is professional, kind, and knowledgeable...Castle Dental you have a great employee, I might have to recruit her. My wait time was short. Both times I was taken back on time. This rarely happens with any medical office. My first visit I got x-rays. One of the machines decided to stop working. The girl who was filling in from another location handled the situation perfectly. She did what she could with what she had. She tried to fix it herself. She asked a co-worker for help. The co-worker, was very professional. When they couldn't get it working they moved onto the next step. While I was with the dental hygienist they went back and fixed the machine. They had me finish up my x-ray and then meet with Dr. Chin. Never once did anyone get frustrated. Everyone worked together, were positive, and supportive. I met with Dr. Chen. I saw some poor reviews regarding her, I am not sure what those were about. Dr. Chen was very professional and she's funny too. She went over my x-rays told me about all the fun dental work I get to have (please note sarcasm). She spent time with me answering my questions. I never felt rushed. At the end of my first visit I met with Nancy who went over my treatment plan with me. She did a great job of explaining it to me. She offered help with financing and spreading out my $3,400 worth of dental work I will have over the next 2 months. We worked out a schedule for the appointments and booked them all. I have always hated going to the dentist. So much so, that when I got married the first time and came off my parents dental insurance, I just stopped going to the dentist. Well at 29, I had a giant cavity that I figured was going to require a crown, so I put on my big girl underwear, got dental insurance, and called the place closet to my house to set an appointment. Welcome to Castle Dental. Now, I haven't been to the dentist in 12, count them, 12, years. I figured some damage was done to my teeth. I go in, they tell me I have to have two appointments (WTF), one for x-rays and an exam, then they will do my cleaning. This was in September 2011. Low and behold, the X-rays show that I have nine cavities. They also tell me that because of the immense amount of plaque on my teeth, I also need to having a "deep cleaning" or scaling where the numb your entire mouth and clean your teeth. Out of pocket costs ended up coming out to $1800 by the time I was finished. I came back in October 2011 for the deep cleaning, in December 2011 for my lower left quadrant cavities, February 2012 for my entire right side cavities, and April 2012 for the upper right quadrant cavities. Everything went off without a hitch at all these appointments. The dentist was professional, the staff very nice. Now, the fun stuff, I went back this month (June) for my post-op follow-up. They do X-rays and the hygenist cleans my teeth. She tells me that one of the teeth that was filled in December has a crack in it and needs to be redone....Seriously? I go to another room and wait 30 minutes for a dentist to come in. It's a different dentist than who did the previous treatment. She walks in, looks at my X-rays and tells me that I have nine cavities that need to be fixed. I just looked at her dumb struck. She tries to tell me that drinking coke is causing my teeth to deteriorate and when I tell her that there is no way my teeth have deteroriated THAT much in six months, she tries to tell me that it's because of the way they put on my BRACES when I was FIFTEEN YEARS OLD.............cause she would know right? Then, to make matters worse, the office staff made me wait in the lobby an additional thirty minutes to wait for them to get the "treatment plan" in order. When the lady calls me back she tells me it's going to cost me an additional $1100 to get my teeth done to which I blew up. I told her that I did not intend of dropping thousands of dollars every six months for this crap. What does she do? "Oh, well let me see if any of these are repeats from last time." AND GUESS WHAT? TWO OF THEM WHERE. So not only did they apparently not fill them right the first time, they were going to charge me for them AGAIN, and they weren't going to say a damn thing to me until I got upset.... I will not be going back. I will be finding a reputable dentist that runs his own practice for myself and my daughter. These people are either 1) liars, 2) incompetent, or 3) money-grubbers. No matter, don't waste your time or your money...I'm already so sick to my stomach at what I've ALREADY paid them out.... read more

This appointment started off well. I got in quickly, they took my x-rays, and then I sat down to have 5 fillings done. That's when things got bad. First, I have a small mouth. Repeatedly throughout the procedure, she called my mouth abnormally small and often stated "that's just not normal." Super unprofessional. Then, after she finished drilling and had started to put my fillings in, she said she was going to go for a couple of minutes to give my mouth a break. 45 minutes later, she came back to finish the procedure. When I left, my teeth were badly uneven, and there was composite filling all over my teeth. I went back to have her fix them, and she really did nothing. I lived in nearby apartments were I could have retrieved needed information but the time was 4:30 and they were about to close and so, I spent the weekend eating noodles. Update 5/5/21 After giving this office another try, I sent my daughter to their office in Pflugerville and her experience was HORRIBLE! My daughter was scheduled to get her wisdom teeth pulled on her second visit, and when she arrived at her appointment they tried to say she was a new patient. After finding her chart, they said she was there for x-rays, but she had her x-rays done on her first appointment. After explaining to them that she had an appointment to get her consultation and wisdom teeth removed, they told her she would not be able to get that done because the doctor was not there today and she was not scheduled for that. They suggested she drive to Killeen (which is 45 minutes way) for a consultation. My daughter was trying to explain and understand what was going on because she had taken off work to get her wisdom teeth removed and was told by the office manager "Nancy" that she needs to step outside because she can't hear because she is on the phone with an insurance company. I called to speak to Nancy and she came to the conclusion that someone scheduled her appointment incorrectly. After these two bad experiences, it is best that we take our business somewhere else. WE WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN! I used to love this place, but today I had a bad experience. I had an appointment today to see the doctor and I was taken back to be seen immediately. I sat in the room 40 minutes with no communication with staff. The doctor was next to me working on another patient but nothing was ever communicated to me. After being tired of waiting, I got up and told the ladies at the front desk what was going on. They said the doctor was doing surgery on a patient, and asked if I wanted to reschedule, but I am not sure if I even want to go back. As a customer, I think this is rude and disrespectful. Went to castle dental for a molar extraction, ended up with a permanent nerve damage, that after seven months now is not getting any better if not worse. The right side of my face, lips, cheek, and chin are still numb, painful, and tingly all the time. In addition to that, I experienced an extremely painful dry socket and an infection. Avoid this place and save yourself from the trouble of getting a nerve damage and trauma by an unqualified dentist like Phuong Pham. He told me it was normal for this to happen and it was going to take a month for the numbness to go away. One of their specialist promised it will go away in 2 years. read more

Here is my sad story related to Castle Dental. I scheduled my initial appointment for a checkup over a month ago My appointment was for 0700 Friday, February 21. On Wednesday, February 19th I got a phone message from Maria informing me my appointment was canceled. No reason given. So I sent an Email to Charlotte, Patient Engagement Specialist at VOP@smilebrands.com. She responded the next day with a BS referral to one of their "field leaders" to "connect with to work towards a resolution for my concern". Really?? Just take a dodge and palm me off on someone else? This is not good. Now today Friday, February 21 my wife (not me) gets a call from Roberta from the Georgetown office. The hygenists and dentists are really nice, but they seemed short-staffed. Also, their office staff can do better. They were able to squeeze me in last minute, but when everything was done, the people behind the desk were just sitting there while my file sat on the counter. When I asked about it, the girl told me I didn't need to do anything, but the truth was I needed to set a followup appointment, which she would have known if she had looked at my file. She grabbed my file, and another employee commented that she was shocked I was still there (after over three hours). While the girl was setting my appointment, I saw another employee at a work station *playing on her phone*. The followup was set for today, and I called this morning to reschedule, and they didn't even have the appointment correct in the system. They had me down for a cleaning tomorrow, and I had a cleaning on Friday. While the dentists and hygenists are lovely, I'm going to look for another dentist to take care of my filling. read more

Turn around and go somewhere else unless you are paying cash. I hate to say it. I really thought I had found a gem in the rough. I've heard some not-so great stuff about Castle, but after my first appointment, I really liked them. The hygienist and Dr. Chen were awesome. She even works a Saturday a month so you don't have to take off work. I thought they all did a great job.... Until my second appointment. I came in and was immediately hit up for an additional $200.00 that my insurance wouldn't cover. Even though I had paid 100% of the estimate. I inquired as to the additional fees and was told that my insurance only covers 1 part of my mouth every 24 months. I think that's pretty a pretty damn important oversight seeing as how they convinced me to get 3 quadrants done. Now I get a call confirming my appointment to get my permanent crown placed and they say I owe another $200.00 because my insurance wont cover the type of crown it is. I don't care what kind it is. I would have picked any kind so long as my insurance covers it. I was told during the estimate, that they would cover. The billing people obviously have no idea what they are doing. I understand it's an estimation, but I don't know how my two issues got miss-calculated. Either they cover it or they don't. If they don't, don't tell me they do. Pretty easy. After this crown I will not being returning. Too bad too, because Dr. Chen really is a gem. read more

If you have dental insurance coverage, you can go here if you feel like being nickel and dimed for every single thing they do. Interesting that they picked items that require copays for every single thing they do, when the fully covered items (cleaning) somehow apply to some other type of patient (not me?). I've always had stellar dental visits all my life. I moved here and tried this dentist (reluctantly-a strip mall franchise dental office really worried me from the beginning but it's who my insurance would cover. Or, not, as it happens.) Don't go here if you think you'll be covered under your insurance. They will find a way to charge you for the water they rinse your mouth out with. read more
