Great place and service. The server and the chef - George were great. George smiled and checked if our food was good or not. The hamburger is ginormous, especially the double cheese hamburger- you will need to cut into half's. Everything about the hamburger was fresh and we felt George took pride cooking it and serving it. What a welcoming staff! The cafe is quaint and we immediately felt right at home. The food was great and the coffee was deliciously fresh. The chile verde, salsa and tortillas were the best! I was on a road trip, on my way home to LA. The morning was horrible and included a dog vomit episode in the car and iced coffee spillage all over my lap. Honestly, I stopped here because I had to pee and change clothes, and I didn't want to do it in the free portable potties across the street. I figured, I'd buy something for lunch so I could use their bathroom, then GTFO. The staff were so friendly and welcoming! The bathroom was wonderful and clean. I had my dog with me, so my lunch had to wait until the outdoor tables at the next rest area, but OMG. Best BLT ever, stuffed full of bacon, with crispy lettuce and juicy tomatoes. Even the fries were my favorite fat steak fries! It was such a pleasant, unexpected surprise. THANK YOU, San Ardo Cafe, for vastly improving my day! A hole in the wall worth getting off the highway to visit. Really good food, fresh pico de gallo and excellent friendly service. Pollo street tacos were packed with nice tender chunks of chicken. Partner ordered carnitas plate and gave thumbs up. Kind of glad we hadn't heard that HWY 1 South had reopened today since 101 brought us past here and glad we didn't wait until Paso Robles to eat. Had to pull off highway for screaming baby. There weren't many exits or options for food and just happened to stumble upon San Ardo Cafe. George is super nice and had plates of tacos and pinnapple agua fresca out to the table in no time at all. Birria tacos were awesome and just what we needed to get back on the road. I found this place because we were driving up from SoCal. We thought to stop bc my dad's name is Ardo and we wanted merch. The town is super small. The same family owns this place and the gas station/convenience store across the street. We met the son that owns the area. He is suuuuper nice and welcoming! He told us a little history about the town. We went to the gas station bc the cafe was closed. He walked us across the street to open up the cafe so we can buy merch which was really nice of him. He said his wife makes the merch and little trinkets there to help her with her law school costs. As a lawyer, I appreciated the hustle so I bought I few things. If you ever pass by San Ardo, PLEASE support this business! I highly recommend this place. We try to stop by every time we drive up or down California. read more

Surprising given the location but trust me. There is boba and some cute stickers and pencils that I typically see in the Asian stores.
