It's almost like wishing on a Genie; you have to think it through! If you aren't specific, tailors tend to default to what they usually make. I had a pear-shaped suit made in Hong Kong by a pear-shaped man, and I've had a custom shirt from JB Clothiers here in L.A. that was ridiculously snug (actually, that guy didn't listen to me at all. It might be worth its own review but I've gotta stay positive right now). With Daniel, I brought in a couple of existing pairs of trousers that I liked, suggesting changes that might make me happier (higher waist, buttons instead of hooks). Daniel's very easy to work with; remembers my name, keeps my pattern, makes adjustments for style and size as requested/needed. I've had six or seven pair made over the years, four of which are still in use (I wear butts OUT!) (I should also say, I don't wear jeans or whatever for everyday use; outside a pair of Dickies for yard-work or a beach trip these are it for me). Part of the fun is a trip to B. Black and Sons for material on your way to the Custodio shop. Just two blocks up Los Angeles St., they're helpful in finding the right wool (or whatever, I guess) for your needs (+ you'll need @1.5 yards for trousers). 5 stars! Secret pockets!! #:o

The measurement process was super quick, I was in and out in about 10 minutes. When I picked up the finished suits I came right before closing time (I know I'm the worst), but Luis welcomed me in and let me try them on before paying. He's such a nice guy and genuinely seemed just as happy as I was that the suits fit really well. Couldn't be happier with my experience! Note: The address is incorrect. It's actually 996 Wall St. Parking: Metered street parking available right outside, but it can be a pretty busy street. I'd recommend coming early morning or on a Sunday late afternoon.

I'm very petite at 5'2 and 110 so I often need pants hemmed or items fixed to fit. I often relied on infrequent visits home where my Mom helped me with my sewing projects, so I hadn't found a regular tailor that I loved here in LA. If I couldn't wait I would just use the nearest cleaners for simple things like hemming work pants. In this case the light grey dress was made of very fine sheer layers of silk-chiffon fabric with intricate silver seed beads, and it would've been far beyond our sewing skills to attempt to fix this formal black-tie event style dress. The bust was way to big for my petite frame so Rose fixed that and also shortened the straps. In addition I asked if she could make the dress shorter so that my legs would look long longer because it fell a little too far below my knees. The hem was layers of scalloped chiffon and she was able to keep that look and have the dress rest above my knees, keeping it sexy and flirty. I received tons of compliments at my sister's wedding! And when I asked Rose he threw in some gorgeous thought used shoes she had there that I fell in love with when trying them on with the dress. She did an amazing job and I've been going back to her since for other alterations including, pants, shorts, skirts and tops. I think for shorter women, having your clothes altered, or hemmed helps you to look put together, so I'm glad to have her help. Rose will also tell you if an alteration is not a good idea due to a tricky fabric, especially if it's too stretchy, and that she can't guarantee results if you insist on it. I've also seen her give sewing tips to customers trying to do some projects on their own. Recently I brought in another beautiful dress, I ordered on the internet that was for my cousins masquerade wedding reception this past New Year's Eve. Again it was perfect at the waist but the bust area was too big and it was strapless as well. This black dress was also very formal and had fine embroderiy of peacock like feathers and it was jeweled with many faux gems. The back of the dress hem was floor length but for a super model at 5'7 or taller. I didn't not want a long train to trip on, or it to drag on the ground since the wedding would be in a snowy city. The asymmetrical hem was shorter in the front cascading down with three semi-opaque layers. She was also able to hem this dress yet keep the same beautiful hem design! Again tons of compliments on my dress, and I'm excited that I now have something to wear to one of the lavish masquerade balls in LA. If you are looking for somewhere cheap to have a fine dress altered, then this is not the place for you. While simple projects are inexpensive having a formal dress altered will cost you anywhere from 30 to 75 dollars depending on what you want done. This is still less then what many bridal and formal wear shops will charge you. Don't forget to bring the bra and shoes you plan to wear with your dress or pants. If not she has extra heels for trying on to assure the hem is exactly where you want it to be.

I completely trust her with everything from my favorite holy jeans to my fanciest designer dresses. She is beyond creative in solving any issues I have with my clothing - whether it's sewing in bra pads, using hidden elastic to cover a bra strap, lining sheer with more sheer to keep the dresses integrity but make it less revealing, and just recently she figured out how to bustle a long dress so that I could wear tennis shoes with it during dancing at my son's bar mitzvah! Her dress making and beading work is on display and it's all gorgeous! On top of all of this, she is lovely and kind and truly cares. If you need an alterations place, this is it! She even works on my husbands suits!
