Yesterday I was at the Pet Smart on Greenville Avenue in Dallas. My Service Dog (she's a trained SD) was near one of their cages and looking at a cat. My dog grew up with two cats and just loves them and she's the sweetest thing, just ask the staff there. Well one of the women pushed my SD's head away from the cage!!!!! I told her not to touch my SD this woman said that "the cat is so freaked by my dog and wanted to calm it down". The cat was so chill and not freaked out at all. It even was reaching out to touch my SD. If they are so worried about the cat getting freaked out, don't bring it with you. Oh BTW, if you ever touch my my SD again, I will make a criminal complaint with under both state and federal laws! read more

Save yourself from a frustrating experience. Don't support a place like this that refuses good homes to needed animals. I spoke with Darlene about adopting a kitten. I read other posts about how rude and unprofessional she can be, but I felt like there could be no problem with her approving my husband and I. We were offering an orphan kitten a loving home. We were turned down over the phone for a kitten adoption because and I quote "cats paws shouldn't touch dirt. As soon as they do it takes off 17 years of their lives." Darlene wanted to dictate exactly how we should raise this kitten and if we didn't comply than we weren't good enough to adopt. WHAT?! We adopted a kitten almost 2 years ago from the Plano animal shelter and gave him a great home. We also have 2 dogs, 1 rescued, that love our cat. I can understand being turned down for maybe not having enough space, or for having past with surrendering animals or maybe not having the time to spend with them. My husband and I work from home and I made sure she knew that this kitten would have our attention... But because we have a very large yard in a nice neighborhood, and we go outside with our animals we were turned down. I was adamant this kitten would not be outside without our supervision. Me standing over her actively playing with her. But she said too much could go wrong... and proceeded to tell me "In good conscious I cant let you adopt from us". How is this not animal cruelty on their part? Darlene would rather keep animals in cages rather than getting adopted to good homes due to her biased and unrealistic requirements. read more

Here Kitty Kitty! Everyone on Facebook saw my new kitty Polly. We named her Polly because she really wants to sit on your shoulder like a parrot. She is the absolute cutest kitten in the entire world and Cat Matchers is to blame for my lack of interest in anything that does not involve my kitten--yes, including beer and cheese. Cat Matchers didn't just go "Oh, you want a cat? Here, take this one." They actually interviewed me, verified I had a proper environment and financial means to take care of the kitty and then had me meet the kitty at a PetsMart event to make sure we were compatible. They helped me pick out the perfect kitten. I'm so pleased that I will be getting a second kitten soon so Polly won't get lonely in the afternoons while I'm at work. Adoption fee is $90 which covers having them "fixed" and shots to date. The animals are kept in foster homes instead of shelters. They are litterbox trained and all cute as buttons. They post photos of the pets up for adoption on their website, but you have to act quick, my first two choices were all ready spoken for. They have a litter right now about to be weened, fixed and ready to go. Stay away from the black one...it's mine! We are naming him Black Bart to go with the pirate motif. read more

so recently I worked with cat matchers at my local PetSmart to adopt two kitties. I paid the fees and signed all the paperwork needed. the Rep tells me to get my house prepared for the "house visit". after shopping and spending 400 dollars getting my house ready for my two babies to join my family. she visits my home unhappy and unpleased already with the mindset that I'm not going to get my cats. her excuse was my kids can't handle the cats and vise versa. I'm very disappointed in this service in the application it states I have two kids and her excuse was theyre scared. it is a new environment for the cats. it is a new home with new parents of course it's going to be an adjustment. about 35 minutes later of her being quiet and "low key" saying shes not gunna give me my cats she says there other cats available but this is not a good home. I'm confused so people with children can't adopt?? they need to put that in the fine print. ruined my first experience in adopting a pet. the cats would have had a loving home with two wonderful siblings. but I guess people with children can't adopt even after they paid the adoption fees and did the paperwork. please note my kids were not being loud or rude they didn't even touch the kitties. neither did i. she had no intention of giving us the cats or even simply doing a meet and greet. horrible and I won't be back. and finally the meet ended with her saying I knew this would happen because of the children. then why make me prepare my house and pay the adoption fee for TWO CATS. Stay away I would give no stars if I could! They are incredibly unprofessional. I had inquired about a cat I saw at a Petsmart. I talked to Angela and she was friendly. She had interviewed me over the phone and asked to set up a time so I could meet the cat. We set up a time for a couple days later. I then talked to Darlene and she was not so friendly. She explained the home owner had to be there to adopt the cat since I did not have my own place. I thought this was weird but we said that we would be able to arrange that and we did. Then I get a call from Angela 2 hours before we are supposed to meet and she claims that the cat was adopted and that she did not know because they apparently had a couple cats with the same name. I honestly don't know why she thought I would believe her but she did. So I asked about 3 other cats I was interested in. She claimed one was already adopted and that she did not know what foster had the other 2. Again I don't know why she couldn't find that out but she said she would have them contact me. Then I asked if there were other cats she thought would be a good match for what I was wanting. However, she claims all their other cats are feral. Funny because that is not what all the descriptions say on petfinder. It has been over a month and I have not heard from them again. And the cats I was interested in are still available. One was adopted but not until about 3 weeks later. I knew they weren't going to get back to me so I adopted from a better rescue and I am so happy I did so. It seems to me that this organization is not trying to find great homes for these cats but rather the fosters choose to keep the cats for themselves. It's a shame because so many cats are missing out on finding their perfect forever home. I wish they would have told me if they had concerns instead of just blowing me off. They need to get organized and figure out a better way to run the rescue then what they are doing now. read more

Very unprofessional and disappointing. Go elsewhere. Waste of time. They contact me at 9pm via email Friday night that a kitten that I had my heart set on was available, and to call them. I called Darlene's personal cell phone the next morning and sent a text. I also emailed her. Monday she finally responds that the kitten was adopted on Saturday and that "a voicemail is just that, a voicemail, it's nobody's phone". Well it was her cell number I called because she even says Hi this is Darlene, leave a message! She doesn't have to lie. Fine whatever, the kitten got adopted, but you don't have to mislead or lie. If I could give this organization less than one star, I absolutely would. We got our kitten through a Petsmart adoption saturday, and from the start, it didn't feel like a kosher adoption. We fell in love with the kitten at first sight and started asking questions about her after reading her paper. Quote her paper, she is 2 years old and up to date on her medical necessities. After they asked us questions about our home - what kind of place we lived in, if any other pets lived with us, ect - we said we live in an apartment but have two cats around the same age. This is when things started becoming questionable. They went from 'we'll see about an application' to 'lets fill it out right now' and practically sending us home with her. It should also be mentioned that they specifically mentioned that numerous people were trying to adopt this cat and they were waiting to hear back from them, but as soon as we mentioned wanting to adopt her, it felt like those other people got waylaid and suddenly because we could put the money up front that we were PERFECT for her. She also specifically kept dodging our concerns about the adoption fee until they practically put the cat in the box to send home with us. While I'm aware it's a big step to adopt a cat and there are fees involved, I wanted to make sure we were able to cover it at that time. They didn't seem to care about this even though it was a concern I raised. Now, remember how I said that the paper said she was 2 years old? She isn't. Judging by her teeth size and the fact that she's got kitty 'acne' on her chin, which is mostly a kitten ailment. When we asked about her age, the kept insisting that 'oh she's just small.' The medication on her paperwork is specifically kitten medication, as kittens tend to get the three rounds of medication necessary [FVRCCP]. Adult cats only get one round, and so do strays. Our kitten needed two more and she didn't get them because they misaged her. Even from experience working with shelters, this isn't appropriate at all and could have caused far worse complications with our kitty, not to mention that should be YOUR responsibility as a shelter to make sure this cat is fit to be adopted. We tried to see if we could take her to the vet that they listed on her contract to see if we could continue her rounds of medication, and the vets office they have listed and recommended comes up as an empty lot on Google maps. We eventually found the vets office they were recommending, but it isn't the address they provided. Not a huge issue, but still, given our circumstances, it's a little more than annoying to have to hunt down the vet to fix a mistake that shouldn't be happening in the first place. Another major problem with this company is that when we reached out to potentially return the kitten because her temperament wasn't as stated and she kept fighting with our other cats, they essentially refused. We had a concern that we brought up at the original adoption since one of our cats has severe anxiety, and they swore up and down that the cat we were adopting was good with other cats and got along with every cat she met. The first four weeks was nothing but fighting with all of our cats, even after careful adjusting. When we tried to reach out with these legitimate concerns and about potentially returning the cat, we were brushed off. We were told we didn't give them enough time to adjust to one another, even though it was nearly four weeks after adopting, and that we needed to get after the cat with a spray bottle everytime she was fighting, which we were already doing. Ultimately we were told pretty much to just keep tolerating it until eventually the cats got along better. This is already a very lengthy review, but as a summary, in my extensive years of both working at shelters and working with them to adopt and foster, this is unacceptable behavior. We were lied to about the animal we were adopting and because of that lie she was given insufficient medical care which we now have to fix ourselves, and when we brought up other problems to the staff at Cat Matchers, they didn't seem interested in providing a proper solution because they had made the sale. This is the first and only time I will be giving Cat Matchers my business, and I hope that people read this and search out better shelters to work with. read more

The people were great and friendly and extremely helpful. I have such an awesome cat, however, the reason for the 3 stars is that once I got the cat I've had her about 2 weeks, I was informed by my vet that she has feline herpes and has had it for some time now. Which is unfortunate because it is highly contagious to other cats so I will be treating her with antibiotics for the rest of her life when she has flare ups since there's no cure. My cat was in a foster home before I adopted so there is no telling how many of the cats have it at this point that lived with her. It's just sad because I will not be able to have another cat for her to play with because the other one will be exposed and catch the virus. read more

I'm giving this place one star. I was willing to adopt a cat for my wife from this establishment and was turned down. The woman said we were unfit due to the fact that our last cat escaped through my wife's legs when she was walking outside. The cat then managed to scale a 10 foot fence climb over our two story roof and then climbed down the tree in our front yard. I guess if that amazing act wasn't terrible enough. The woman told my broken hearted wife that the cat was probably eaten by coyotes. I couldn't believe this. If all this wasn't enough we were told that the cat enjoyed the company of dogs and would not let it be adopted into a house without one!!!!! WHAT?????? I thought I was rescuing a cat and giving it a stable loving home! Sorry we didn't meet your criteria. Time to call a breeder I guess. read more

Beware. . .they are misleading and possibly deceptive. After going and spending an hour with a kitten, falling in love, applying to adopt him three days later at their encouragement, they waited another two days to even get back to us and then denied us for something they knew within the first 60 seconds of meeting us 6 days earlier. They told us that because we had a senior dog and not another kitten in the home, that we were not a good enough match for a new kitten. It seemed not to matter to them that we had successfully raised a kitten until he was 20 years old, that our senior dog is still quite youthful and has lived his entire life with a cat, or that we are a homeschool family that is home most days and could take exceptional care of this new family member. I'm not sure what small percentage of people meet their criterion but we would have appreciated a lot more honesty right upfront when we asked Darlene face to face that first day if there was anything else they needed to know about us before we moved to the next step. She smiled and said no, that all was good. She should have told me right then that they had no intentions of allowing us to adopt this kitten. Maybe then I wouldn't have a broken-hearted 12 year old who desperately wanted that kitten for Christmas. read more

I filled out an application and was planning to go look at the cats on the weekend. I needed to reschedule, and the lady said "oh, I found the perfect person to adopt the cats". First of all, this lady doesn't know me so making a comment like that is unprofessional and rude. I asked the original person I had been working with, and she said, I believe her mother adopted them because she couldn't let them go. A month later, they are still online. This organization lies and I highly recommend they investigate their foster people more closely. I've been around cats and dogs my entire life and was so excited about the cats I already showed everyone the pictures. I've never been treated like this by an organization. They must not want to adopt the animals and lying is a terrible thing to do when someone is interested in Love and Bear. You should be ashamed of your actions and how you treat others. read more
