I almost never write reviews, but after reading some of the negative reviews about the service that people received at catbird I felt compelled to share my experience. Even though the small store was definitely crowded, I was offered helped very quickly by several employees. I ended up leaving the store without buying anything but went back later in the afternoon because I was still thinking about these certain earrings. I was tasked with the job of many men: finding a wedding ring. My wife and I are no-nonsense, non-materialistic artists. We were not interested in the typical diamond stuff, and I was stressing that finding a place that had handcrafted, artisinal wedding rings for good prices was going to be difficult. Wrong. Catbird is quirky, unique, and thoughtful. Their staff let us try on a variety of different products, no heckling, and extremely patient. It was a pleasant, no-stress experience that led us to purchase a rose gold band for me, and a sweet tiny little diamond ring (they no longer make it sadly). We couldn't be happier for a great price, thoughtful staff, and nice experience. And, we get lots of compliments daily on our rings. ;) read more

I make the journey here several times a month (yes I know I sound crazy, but have you seen their jewelry?!). Today, when I got onto the train, it was perfectly fine outside, but as soon as I stepped into Bedford Ave, it was POURING. I didn't have an umbrella and was completely soaked by the time I arrived at Catbird. There was nobody in the shop, which I usually dislike because I feel watched, but I went anyway. There were two girls in the shop and both of them greeted me warmly and told me that if I needed anything, they'd gladly show me around. I knew what I wanted to see already and one of the girls helped me out, assisted me in making my decisions based on my already existing catbird jewelry, gold color, what would match with what and so on and so forth. She was genuinely sweet and helpful all the way. When I checked out, she said "If you want, you can easily stay in here until the downpour has stopped. Do you want a water or something?" Love love love their jewelry & their customer service is great too :) I will say though that there have been SOME times I felt kind of awkward and in some way looked down upon because I didn't fit in with the Brooklyn/hipster/indie vibe, but just dress simply (I'm French), but they're still friendly. read more

This shop has the most beautiful jewelry from local artists. My boyfriend knows me so well. He stops in here all the time to buy me different pieces with crystals adorned on them. My friend's boyfriend also shops here for her too. Its just a really chill pretty place where everything is marked fairly and they even have cute little recycled cards that mean something more than your average Hallmark. read more

Catbird has been on my to-go list for months, and I finally popped in today! I really like their designs: simple, unique, dainty, and sophisticated. Their price range is wide and you get what you pay for. If you want to invest in your jewelry, which in my opinion, you should (so you don't have to replace it often), you should come here. Plus, I believe all the Catbird jewelry is handmade in Brooklyn. The salesperson that helped me today was really helpful and friendly, and I would definitely come back. Beautifully edited and laid out, if expensive. The jewelry is individual and phenomenally well-designed. Even the notecards are lovely.

It is quite pricey and for some items. I had checked in a few months back to see what they had. I was debating between a custom nameplate necklace that takes about 2-3 weeks to get made up; and a locket that I saw advertised in NY magazine. I went for the locket because I was in kind of an instant gratification mood. I may go back to get the custom made name necklace for a friend. I heart Catbird but most of their wares are too delicate for my lifestyle. I travel a lot and after a Venetian glass necklace broke for the 3rd time I gave up. That doesn't mean I can't appreciate the craftsmanship and creativity expressed in their jewelry. Right now, I am coveting a quail egg/gold leaf necklace. Came in to browse with my partner without an appointment. We got to browse without interruption and as soon as we asked for some guidance the staff were incredibly helpful, patient, and such a delight. You'd never guess all the finds this tiny shop has. It's crowded even during the middle of the week. I found their website to be easier to browse, but you can chose the "pick up in store" option as an excuse to go check them out. It's a short ride from Manhattan and worth at least a look. read more

This place has the most gorgeous and unique options for engagement rings. They have so many amazing choices and constantly add new designs. Their rings are stunning and offer something a little different from your classic standard solitaire engagement ring (although they have options close to that classic style as well). There are rings in a wide price range, so there's something for nearly every budget, and the styles are special and unique while still being timeless and elegant. I love how delicate so many of their designs are. They also offer ring cleaning in the shop for engagement rings that were bought there to keep them as sparkly as new. I just want to preface this review by saying I have been shopping at Catbird since 2008 and have literally spent thousands at this store for jewelry for myself and as gifts to family/friends over the years. I really do love everything I've purchased and it has held up well. The online customer service is super responsive and helpful. That being said, the in-store experience leaves much to be desired if you don't fit a certain demographic (read: thin, white, female). I'm a Muslim woman and have come to this store a couple times with my boyfriend who is Black. Like what many reviews have pointed out, the racial profiling is real at this place. Not that we were followed around like we were going to steal something, but it's VERY obvious that you are treated differently and not helped the same way white customers are. I feel like employees outnumber customers here a lot of the times, and every time I've been here I feel like I'm being actively ignored and like my presence is a burden. I live in Brooklyn so it doesn't make sense to order online and deal with delivery/tax when I can just go to the store, but I honestly hate going to this place now. Hopefully Catbird takes my input and the experiences of other POC to heart and works to make their store more inclusive. In the meantime just order directly from the designers they stock if you want to support independent businesses. read more

Wandered into Catbird while waiting for a nearby appointment, and it ended up being the highlight of my day! Everything is gorgeous and masterfully curated - I don't think there was a single item in the whole store that didn't fit in perfectly with the aesthetic. I actually think the prices were pretty reasonable, too. When I asked for the price on some earrings, I half expected it to be in the 200s (which I wouldn't have been able to swing), but the $65 price point was perfect! Updating my review since Anna was extremely quick and responsive after a review I wrote here. At first I was unhappy about my first purchase I made online and the second one I made at their brick and mortar store in Williamsburg. I still think that the girls working at the store can do more at providing better customer service (which is why I give a 4-star) but I'm finally happy with my shopping experience here. Catbird is my absolute favorite place to buy jewelery from! I have 15 rings and 2 necklaces. I buy a lot online because I don't live in NY. The few times I've been to the actual store there was not one nice sales girl. I thought it was me but after taking my girlfriends there this past weekend I realized it wasn't. It's almost as if you are bothering them to ask for help. I work in the service industry and there are times when I'm not having a good day but it doesn't hurt to SMILE. You would think when a customer walks in and has 2 stacks of catbird rings on and buying more at least one person working in the store would be the tiniest bit nice. Just came from Catbird. I had to pick up an online order. After reading the reviews, I was surprised to see some of the comments. I wish I had gotten the name of the woman who helped me because she was the most helpful, sweet kitten one could hope for when stepping into a business. The jewelry is amazing (I have a few pieces) so since I had a great experience at the store itself and since the Bedford location isn't too far from my job, I plan to revisit. I have purchased atleast 6 catbird rings, I was a loyal customer-- have ordered online as well as purchased in store (even though the associate informed me I wasn't in the system even though I receive their daily emails). I will NEVER return to catbird again. I have never in my life received worse customer service. I decided to go to the store on Sunday afternoon to purchase engraved rings for my sister and I. As soon as I walked into the store I should have turned right around. Every single girl working there was genuinely annoyed by my presence as well as the others customers presence. As if the fact that their store is ridiculously undersized and busy is our fault. Great start. When I finally got one of the girls to look in my general direction she informed me I would have to wait in line to order. Fine. That's what I did. I watched the three girls interact with the customers in the most inappropriate way I have ever experienced. They were literally huffing and puffing in annoyance that they had to help customers. Not even looking at them. Finally it's my turn, I inform the girl I would like two engraved rings. She rolled her eyes and asked which kind. I tried to explain the type I had seen online. Instead of assisting she just blank stared at me as if it was completely absurd that I hadn't memorized the entire website and all of its ring names. Silly me. I told her I didn't know which size for me so I would like to try on a few. She told me that I should have told her that in the beginning and now she has to start the order over. Ummm that seems strange as I am fully aware they have many sizes of rings to try on in the store. I asked her when I could expect to receive them and she informed me that it was like the holiday season so idk a month idk.. Okay? She then told me she can't do two shipping addresses. So you're telling me that no catbird customer has ever requested that one ring be sent to themselves and another ring to be sent as gift elsewhere? How ridiculous. This entire time I was actually in disbelief. I cannot believe that this place is still running. Not to mention as I was standing there in the store, I visibly showed that I had already purchased and was wearing 4 different catbird rings on my fingers. What a miserable experience. I told her I was no longer willing to spend the 500 dollars for the rings and left. Steer clear. I will find somewhere else to purchase the rings. read more

Great small jewelry spot with so many options to choose from. Visited on the weekend a few months ago to purchase a few of their knuckle rings and I have been super happy with my purchase. Not the friendliest customer service but they're so busy and it is such a small space that it's totally understandable. I didn't feel rushed to pick anything right away so it made for a really pleasant shopping experience. Will definitely be returning to catbird for a few more rings to add to my "stack." Also, if you visit be sure to take a copy of the catbird city favorites that they have right by the door & catbird branded matches - I love that they took the time to print a Brooklyn/city guide for their customers. I was quoted 1-2 weeks to get my ring made - 3 weeks later I still don't have it and the customer service team has now told me it won't be ready for another 2 weeks. So 5 weeks total wait time to get a ring in my size. I guess they are currently mining the diamonds otherwise I don't know why else it would take this long. Not recommended. read more

I ordered my wedding ring online and was very nervous about getting it and the ring looking like the pictures. It is PERFECT. They sent updates to me when it was finished with iPhone pictures so I could see unedited pictures. The package required signature. A plus service all around. I attempted to order something online for a girlfriends wedding. The experience was a nightmare, their customer service is horrible. Not only did I have to wait a week to be reimbursed, because they could not process my order internationally I never heard a single "I am sorry for your inconvenience" nadda. Then finally when i was reimbursed the final amount, it was for less than what I originally paid. So when i contacted them to resolve the issue - nothing was done. So basically I paid them money for nothing. Well done! So instead I went on Etsy, found someone who carried a similar product and the rings were made custom within a week and shipped. I like the store, but in a recession you think they would take more care of their customers especially when they are spending $300+ on jewelry. It's all about the store experience when you are a luxury retailer. read more
