    Classic Burger with side salad
    Antwan W.

This is my third or fourth visit over the last few years. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The setting is one of Catch 31's strongest points. Oceanfront views, open windows, and a coastal, airy vibe make it a genuinely scenic spot. Perfect for sunset dinners or drinks with the water right there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The energy at the bar was lively but not overwhelming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Clam Chowder: Rich, creamy, good balance of clams to potatoes. Classic and comforting. House Salad with Blue Cheese Dressing: Fresh greens, generous portion of blue cheese. Tangy and well-dressed without being soggy. Burger: Flavor was excellent, juicy, well-seasoned. Came out slightly overcooked for my preference, but still delicious. Drinks: Two Old Fashioneds were balanced and strong. Also had a shot of Jim Beam bourbon. This is where the experience fell short. I'm a 20%+ tipper and I sit at bars often, so I understand how busy it gets. But the difference in service was hard to miss. Tatiana (bartender): Greeting took much longer than other guests. I wasn't asked if I was eating or drinking right away, yet I watched her promptly greet others, offer water, take orders, then ask for a card. With me, she asked for a card for the tab immediately. The interaction felt noticeably different from how she treated other patrons. I give grace when I can, but the contrast was clear and can't be ignored. I also noted her manager appeared to be a Black man, which made the disparity feel even more disappointing. Hayden (bar back): Cool and helpful. Stepped in, checked on things, and was genuinely hospitable. I reluctantly left her 15%. Honestly, I didn't want to give her anything at all but a piece of my mind. The good Lord Jesus is working on me, so I left the 15% and walked away. As a regular 20%+ tipper, that drop speaks volumes about how the service felt. Pros: Scenic oceanfront atmosphere, good food with strong flavors, solid cocktails. Hayden's help improved the night. Cons: Inconsistent bar service. The burger was slightly overcooked. Most concerning was feeling singled out by Tatiana's approach compared to other guests. Catch 31 delivers on location and food. The view and the chowder alone are worth a stop. But the service experience at the bar was uneven and left me feeling offended as a paying customer who tips well. I hope management addresses the disparity, because the place has too much potential to be weighed down by that. Would return for the food and view, but hesitant about the bar experience with Tatiana.

Great food, service and affordable prices. We had the Reuben, chicken sandwich, crab dip, salad added shrimp. Nothing disappointed. Would return.

We went out for a hang out as while watching the game. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I would recommend having more screens though, it was hard for all to enjoy the game granted it may not be the indicated ambiance they are going for.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was very good. We sat at the bar and all the mixologist were very attentive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]For such a beautiful space the bathroom leaves a lot to desire so e ready for a run down space for a $$ bite or drinks[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I was very impressed by their different selection in mocktails.

I love Catch been going here since 2009, they have the best Oyster Rockafella. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the drinks and the atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Will always come back ..

The fish was decent in seasoning but the veggies were extremely salty where I couldn't enjoy. The waitress and live musician were great. The hostess seated us where I preferred in the white booth which I appreciated in service. The calamari was good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's on a beachfront and there's people in and out of the outdoor patio so can't really complain about the annoying flies but they were annoying to swat throughout our dinner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Attached to our nice hotel conveniently. Worth a try if you're staying in the hotel but request no salt for the veggies if ordering the fish.

Visited Catch 31for lunch while in town for the weekend. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This spot is on the boardwalk right near the water with indoor and outdoor seating--also a great view.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, the weekend I visited this spot, the beach was full of vendors, so there wasn't much to see. But it was great if you just like to people watch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My waitress was very pleasant and attentive. There wasn't a long wait for seating or food. My friend and I ordered Rockefeller Oysters for an appetizer. I don't usually eat oysters but was down to try the cooked ones on this visit. While my friend enjoyed them, they still didn't change my opinion on oysters--although, my friend did mention that there was a bit too much oyster taste present-which may be why I didn't enjoy them. Next, I ordered a Grilled Jerk chicken sandwich and fries, while my friend ordered the Blackened Tuna melt, which came on Rye bread. The chicken sandwich was very good, a bit too much spice for me--it had jerk sauce on it, and the spiciest pepper jack cheese I've ever tasted. While it was bursting with flavors, I don't think it agreed with my stomach. The fries were mediocre-nothing to brag about, I actually wished they were a bit crispier and longer. They were too close to soggy in my opinion. The Blackened Tuna sandwich was ok, nothing to rave about. It was spicy as well. I did have a margarita also, which was really good. Never tried the coleslaw, since it's not my thing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I noticed that they don't have the cleanest menus, that should be worked on for the prices this place charges.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Other than that, I would say give this place a chance if you haven't already. I highly likely that I would return if I'm ever in town again. I just wouldn't order the samething again.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Very nice restaurant at the bottom of a hotel. Outside sitting is "small and cozy" but still classy by the boardwalk & that's where we sat.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server was very polite and friendly but it did take her a while to get to us and get our order (our food took quite some time to get to our table as well). We ordered a few drinks - mojitos were good - and then food... the appetizer we wanted was out so we went straight for main course and split them: Tuscan salmon, crab cakes & New York sirloin. Food was very good, we ate everything, but it could be a little hotter. I would recommend this place and had a good time but would probably choose a less busier day/night to get a 5 star experience.

This restaurant was amazing! I made a reservation, but still had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated, and that is the only negative thing i have to say. Once seated; the service was amazing. The restaurant is super nice and great views right on the oceanfront. I wish the weather was nice enough to sit outside, because i would've loved to be on the patio. Everything we got was a good portion and tasted perfect. This is the perfect place for a date night, and I will definitely be back.

Vending at the Neptune Festival for the first time and this place was highly recommended for their delicious cuisine. They are on the pricey side, but well worth it. The staff was attentive, welcoming and warm. Our beautiful server made recommendations and provided us with top tier service. We started off with two different salmon dishes and indulged in a molten chocolate cake for dessert. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was giving upscale beach fare with a casual and relaxed vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

We came here for wine and appetizers, while waiting for the happy hour oysters at another restaurant. We sat outside on a beautiful, sunny Sunday. We ordered a bottle of rosé and crab dip and enjoyed it. The server was friendly and attentive. I'd definitely come back to try more food.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Beautiful view of the ocean, bright & open atmosphere, and great, attentive service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Restaurant week was a great opportunity to give this Restaurant a try. Food was delicious!

It's my bday so my husband decided to bring us here for some seafood. I ordered the baby octopus, clam chowder, raw oysters, and my husband ordered a filet mignon. The baby octopus dish was AMAZING. They got the spanish flavors down. The chowder was a little too thick for me tasty. Oysters were perfect. Unfortunately my husband's steak wasn't the best. It was cooked well, but quality of it was dry. Our table was over looking the water, it was beautiful. Justin, our waiter was so sweet! It was a great dinner

Ask the Community - Catch 31 Fishhouse and Bar

    They serve breakfast?

    Yes

How many people can you seat?

We were just guests of this restaurant and i saw some very large groups of people when we're were there. Like pushing 15+ in 1 group.

    How's the lobster?

IDK but we were not impressed dinner or breakfast . We got a better meal at rudees for less money .

    Are they gluten sensitive friendly?

My dad is gluten sensitive and they were able to accommodate him very well. The server was knowledgeable about what on the menu would work for him. Hope this helps!

Is it considered a 4 or 5 star restaurant?

3 and a half is right on the money. The closest to Five stars on the water is Waterman's. Best seafood in the area is Blu Seafood and Spirits. This place would get a 4th star if they refreshed the interior and gave it a deep clean.

Our server was friendly, but slow. The restaurant was typical for a hotel bar and grill, meaning there was no warmth in the furnishings or decor. The surrounding area is easy to walk and has a cute vibe. When we walked in, there was a short wait because the hostess was busy, but she apologized right away. It wasn't an issue for us since we weren't in a rush, and the acknowledgment was appreciated. For drinks, I ordered the mimosa sangria, which was just okay--not bad, but nothing memorable. For food, I went with Fatty's Hangover Burger ($16), topped with a fried sunny-side egg, apple-smoked bacon, lettuce, and tomato on a toasted challah roll. I added cheese for an extra $1. I don't usually order burgers, but this one was decent. It was a little peppery for my taste, but overall enjoyable. The sunny-side egg really made it, and the fries were a solid side. Overall, a convenient option if you're staying nearby or looking for a casual American styled food with a relaxed atmosphere.

One piece of advice: arrive a little before Happy Hour begins at 3:00 p.m. If you wait until then, you'll likely find yourself several people deep in line. Don't let that discourage you. Embrace it, because once you're seated you'll quickly discover that the wait was well worth it. The food is delicious, the portions are generous, and the prices--especially during Happy Hour--are outstanding. The Atlantic specializes in oysters, and their Happy Hour runs daily from 3:00-6:00 p.m., including weekends. We began with a Chopped Caesar Salad ($9). Every ingredient was crisp, fresh, and flavorful--a simple dish executed exactly as it should be. Next came the oysters: a dozen Rockefeller and a dozen Pacific. The Rockefeller oysters were everything you would expect from this classic preparation--rich, savory, and baked beautifully. The Pacific oysters, however, completely stole the show. Each oyster was topped with a delicious combination of chorizo sausage, pepper jack cheese, and seasonings before being baked to perfection. They were bold, flavorful, and easily my favorite item of the afternoon. I also ordered the Double Stack Cheeseburger ($7), and what a terrific value. The burger arrived piping hot, loaded with melted cheese, and accompanied by a generous serving of crispy fries. It's hard to imagine finding a better burger at that price anywhere along the Oceanfront. My wife ordered the pork, shrimp, and kimchi dumplings served with a chili crunch and ponzu sauce that tied the entire dish together beautifully. She jokingly threatened to drink the remaining sauce after finishing the dumplings (she didn't), but she did convince me to dip one of my fries into it. She was absolutely right--it was fantastic. In fact, I now regret turning down the dumpling she generously offered me. Part of the fun of dining here is watching Shuck-Master Slim work. He's not only remarkably skilled but entertaining as well, adding a little personality to an already enjoyable experience. From the fresh seafood to the outstanding value and friendly atmosphere, this was another memorable visit to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. If you haven't been to The Atlantic on Pacific, I highly recommend adding it to your list. You'll be glad you did, and you can rest assured that you're helping support one of our outstanding local restaurants.
