Whoo where to begin with this one. My wife and I decided to come here for dinner on 5/19. It was her first time coming for actual food and it was my first time ever. She had always wanted to try it, it had a happy hour menu with food and drinks, so why not. We parked, walked the few feet over, got seated outside, and waited. Our waitress, Taya, was an absolute gem. Only 2 months working there and she was in her element for us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was quite humid outside but it wasnt uncomfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside though was big and spacious (the big wall of Makers Mark alcohol bottles was quite a site to see).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Now onto the food and drinks: For drinks I ordered their Catch 31 Orange Crush (delicious) and they went out of their way to prepare me a Irish Car Bomb (shot of Baileys Irish Cream in a pint of Guinness) the best they could and it worked out beautifully. My wife just had her favorite Blue Moon on tap and she had no complaints. For food we ordered a Buffalo Mac and Cheese (wife), The Mack (me) and coconut shrimp (share). The Mac and cheese my wife had blew her mind. The couple bites I took I could see why. The buffalo chicken on top was melt in your mouth tender and the cheese sauce balanced the spice out nicely. The Mack I had was a double cheeseburger with thousand island dressing, lettuce, onions, tomato, and pickles. I've mentioned the best burger I've ever had came from Smashed RVA but now it has competition in this one. It was fresh, juicy, and the toasted bun made it all come together. So good in fact I ordered a second one to go. Speaking of... The coconut shrimp we shared was so tender and the sweet chili dipping sauce would make your eyes pop out your head. It was spot on cooked, nice golden brown color, and very flavorful. My wife doesn't even like spicy food or coconut even but even she said she loved all of it. We got a second order of the shrimp to take home too. I talked to the manager on duty, named William, and told him my feelings and thanked him for a wonderful experience and meal and that we would definitely be back again. I can't speak for the people who gave this place negative feedback but I can say for my wife and I we had zero issues with the service, staff, and food. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!! Last weekend we went with friends we were visiting for a quick dinner. 3 of us ordered oysters and we all got sick within a few hours. The oysters weren't good either. Not shucked well, got shell and really lacked flavor. The peel and eat shrimp were overcooked resulting in an unpleasant texture. My salad was good though severely overdressed. Classic and comforting. House Salad with Blue Cheese Dressing: Fresh greens, generous portion of blue cheese. Tangy and well-dressed without being soggy. Burger: Flavor was excellent, juicy, well-seasoned. Came out slightly overcooked for my preference, but still delicious. Drinks: Two Old Fashioneds were balanced and strong. Also had a shot of Jim Beam bourbon. This is where the experience fell short. I'm a 20%+ tipper and I sit at bars often, so I understand how busy it gets. But the difference in service was hard to miss. Tatiana (bartender): Greeting took much longer than other guests. I wasn't asked if I was eating or drinking right away, yet I watched her promptly greet others, offer water, take orders, then ask for a card. With me, she asked for a card for the tab immediately. The interaction felt noticeably different from how she treated other patrons. I give grace when I can, but the contrast was clear and can't be ignored. I also noted her manager appeared to be a Black man, which made the disparity feel even more disappointing. Hayden (bar back): Cool and helpful. Stepped in, checked on things, and was genuinely hospitable. I reluctantly left her 15%. Honestly, I didn't want to give her anything at all but a piece of my mind. The good Lord Jesus is working on me, so I left the 15% and walked away. As a regular 20%+ tipper, that drop speaks volumes about how the service felt. Pros: Scenic oceanfront atmosphere, good food with strong flavors, solid cocktails. Hayden's help improved the night. Cons: Inconsistent bar service. The burger was slightly overcooked. Most concerning was feeling singled out by Tatiana's approach compared to other guests. Catch 31 delivers on location and food. The view and the chowder alone are worth a stop. But the service experience at the bar was uneven and left me feeling offended as a paying customer who tips well. I hope management addresses the disparity, because the place has too much potential to be weighed down by that. We spent the day on the beach right in front of this bar and for one of our breaks we went inside and sat and had a couple of drinks and the crab dip. The crab dip was very tasty with crab meat well represented. It came out with some lightly toasted pita chips. Our bartender was very attentive, and we had a couple of the margaritas while looking out at the view of the ocean from the bar. Very nice bar with a great selection of beers and cocktails, as well as both a lunch and dinner menu to choose from. Perfect for our style vacationing. read more

The fish was decent in seasoning but the veggies were extremely salty where I couldn't enjoy. The waitress and live musician were great. The hostess seated us where I preferred in the white booth which I appreciated in service. The calamari was good. My friend and I ordered Rockefeller Oysters for an appetizer. I don't usually eat oysters but was down to try the cooked ones on this visit. While my friend enjoyed them, they still didn't change my opinion on oysters--although, my friend did mention that there was a bit too much oyster taste present-which may be why I didn't enjoy them. Next, I ordered a Grilled Jerk chicken sandwich and fries, while my friend ordered the Blackened Tuna melt, which came on Rye bread. The chicken sandwich was very good, a bit too much spice for me--it had jerk sauce on it, and the spiciest pepper jack cheese I've ever tasted. While it was bursting with flavors, I don't think it agreed with my stomach. The fries were mediocre-nothing to brag about, I actually wished they were a bit crispier and longer. They were too close to soggy in my opinion. The Blackened Tuna sandwich was ok, nothing to rave about. It was spicy as well. I did have a margarita also, which was really good. Never tried the coleslaw, since it's not my thing. I've been here a dozen times and I KNOW I had to have written a review about it before - it's a staple at the oceanfront by the Neptune statue and 31st street pavilion. It's fun to sit here communally (bc they're huge and seat so many people they can put multiple parties at the same table and listen to music[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As far as location, it can't be beat. It's one of the main areas here with a claim to fame as one of the nicest hotels (before the Cav was remodeled)[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Yesterday, we had lunch at Catch 31. We ate there last while we were on our summer vacation. I had the salmon, mashed potatoes and asparagus. It was plated well and was very delish! The salmon was a good portion size. I wanted to swap the mashed potatoes with Parmesan truffle fries. Our server explained that they had a new menu and no substitutions were allowed. So I stuck with the meal per the menu and opted to not pay $8 for the fries. My husband had a burger, fries and ?? He asked for lettuce, tomatoes, mayo and grilled onions. The server responded that the mayo and grilled onions would be in the side. No problem. His burger and fries were delish. He got a large dish of grilled onions, enough for 2 people. They were very tasty! He didn't expect to receive so many. All was well until we got the bill and noticed we were charged $6 for the grilled onions! She didn't let us know this when we ordered our food. So, if you have any requests, ask if there's a charge. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We walked from our hotel. I take my parents here when they come down for a beach day. We have always had a friendly server and amazing food. Food is decently priced for the area and drinks are always amazing. Their dining room is quite large with comfy booths, general, high tops and bar seating. Their outdoor seating features fire pits for those breezy beach nights. Being that they are a Hilton Hotel restaurant they offer breakfast, lunch, dinner, happy hour and late night menus. The late night menu offers drink specials similar to Happy Hour. It's my bday so my husband decided to bring us here for some seafood. I ordered the baby octopus, clam chowder, raw oysters, and my husband ordered a filet mignon. The baby octopus dish was AMAZING. They got the spanish flavors down. The chowder was a little too thick for me tasty. Oysters were perfect. Unfortunately my husband's steak wasn't the best. I'm surprised I didn't get E. coli from drinking the water here, I don't believe there's a difference between toilet water and the water that they serve at the table, it genuinely smells like their bathroom, toilet water, I did a smell test to confirm. If that wasn't enough, the Keylime pie will have you paying $20 for Keylime pie flavored Jell-O with dollar tree cookie crust. I seriously considered getting tested for different diseases after coming here, I would pay not to drink the water again, the public restroom across the park would probably have more portable drinking water. What a nice place to dine while in Va Beach. The restaurant is located in a Hilton. The staff was very friendly. The restaurant has a pretty expansive menu. The scallops were great. I also had the blacked rockfish as well. The portion was small, but the flavor was great It was served with wild rice and asparagus. The restaurant features a full bar. Where do I start? The positive: the view and location are excellent. You can get a seat directly in front of the ocean and the restaurant is located adjacent to Neptune's statue at the base of one of the nicer hotels along VA Beach boardwalk. The negative: the food is grossly overpriced for the quality you receive. My seafood "pasta" was not good even for the standard of it being cheap. It was straight up bad. No flavor insipid in taste. Poor quality seafood. And not a decent portion of the main seafood components. The steak my date ordered was poor. I understand a seafood restaurant would not have the highest quality cuts of steaks but for the price they charge you'd think they'd go the extra mile. Not the case at all. The steak wouldn't even pass a quality control at your nearest Texas Roadhouse. Quite pathetic honestly. All of this doesn't even account for the horrible service we received. Waiter constantly walked right past us without acknowledging our existence. Asked multiple times for simple water refills. Was served food with no utensils. And waited a very long time to ever be served. I really hate writing poor reviews on any establishment that I feel has the customers best interest at heart but this one felt disappointing. What a great location with a great concept and potential for it all to be wasted. Simple things that any middling restaurant gets right this one failed at accomplishing. Feels like this one needs to be replaced from the ground up. Whether that's lowering their standards of "fine dining" or accept a casual dining experience while lowering their prices. I've lived in Virginia Beach for 10 years and have always wanted to try Catch 31 so my daughter and I decided to dine in on a Thursday evening and I'm so glad we did. As soon as we walked in, I couldn't help but notice how beautiful the interior was. Since we wanted to sit outside, we were told that the outdoor dining area was first come, first serve so we ventured outside to grab a table. I love how close the outdoor dining area is to the beach, the views were so nice! Our server, Nyada, was super friendly and helped us decide on what to order. My daughter ordered the Margherita Flatbread with a side of Broccolini and I decided on the Clam Chowder to start and the Pan Seared Scallops with a side of Truffle Mac & Cheese as my entree...along with a margarita, of course! The soup and the Margherita Flatbread came out fairly quickly! The Clam Chowder was amazing!!! It was very hearty with an abundance of clam pieces. The Flatbread was also just as good and very flavorful. The Pan Seared Scallops were cooked perfectly and paired wonderfully with the creamy orzo! I could not stop eating it! Unfortunately, the server forgot to put in the Truffle Mac & Cheese but since I was super stuffed, I was okay with that. Just another reason to return! The food at Catch 31 was definitely a 10/10!!! Every review that I do is based on an expectation of the place that I entered. Reading gas station sushi at five stars might get best rate two stars coming from Nobu. That said, this is the all day restaurant connected to the lobby of one of the nicer hotels in Virginia Beach. The menu was small, which I do not mind if they give you limited choices that are 100% spot on. But in this case, the food was only average. We ate there for dinner, one of us had the buffet and the other ordered off the menu and also ordered room service from the restaurant. So we did get a tasting of everything they serve. The food was good for dinner and room service. The breakfast buffet was sadly lacking. You would expect a whole lot more at a restaurant connected to a Hilton. However, the breakfast my wife ordered off the menu was amazing. The alcohol selection at the bar was average, and when I asked for two different local bourbons, neither them were stocked. Only your basic top shelf that you would expect to get anywhere. I think they are missing a tourist opportunity by not serving local Virginia liquors. And the staff may have been shorthanded, but they were not. If you were staying in the hotel, and as a Hilton Honors member receiving a $30 credit for food and drinks, what you get for the money is worth it. Arrived on a Friday night during the off season, January 31. Seated immediately but before the dinner menu would begin with no crowd. Our server was quick, patient and efficient, I'm sad I didn't remember his name, but he said he hadn't worked there in a while or very often. We ordered the peel and eat shrimp from the raw bar as an appetizer, two pounds. Now, y'all know, I'm not a seafood eater, BUT, I tried the shrimp. They were big, puffy and tender...I had three, so THAT'S saying something!!!! The Honey Lavender Scented Salmon was nicely cooked and fragrant, She had the honey glaze on the side and if you don't like overly sweet salmon, I suggest you do the same and dip as you eat to control the sweet. Nice portion with whipped potatoes and broccolini. The Prime Angus Beef Filet was almost perfect as well as doneness as I prefer No Pink and the thicker portion was still slightly pink, even after I asked for it to be butterflied to help get it to my likeness. The roasted potatoes and broccolini were plentiful sides and well cooked. Over all a very enjoyable experience priced to keep the riff-raff out I guess but no real room to complain. Same here because we had some time to kill before we could check in. I don't remember how we found it, if it was a suggestion or if I just looked up restaurants and seen it on Yelp and close. But we decided to eat outside since it was a nice day. We also love the fact that they had fire pits in the middle of tables outside as well so that helped get some of the cold out of the air. They're on the beach so you can actually sit there and watch the waves while eating your food. Since we died outside we had to place our order inside at the bar for food and drinks but they actually bought it to us quickly We ordered shrimp cocktail, oysters, clam chowder, soup of the day which was chicken tortilla, fish and chips, and the shrimp orzo. My shrimp are overcooked and the pasta and the asparagus was so teeny that I almost forgot it was in there. It would have been nice if they were blanched so that they could still have a crunch and be evident within the dish. I am not a fan of overcooked shrimp and it seems like the shrimp were cooked and then just add it to the dish. I was told that the fish from the fish and chips was good but pass on the coleslaw. Apparently, the soup had a big chunk of dry chicken breast in it which caused my friend to almost choke. I was told that the oysters were good and the clam chowder was okay. I said ok but this time may be no sauce as the bun gets soggy with sauce. I got my food this time and the bun was soaked in oil. She offered to eat something else and i just did not want to get some surprise, so i did not eat. May be my review might seems harsh but i love eating. I firmly believe that when you are passionate about food, you will understand cooking and what is expected . Recommendation: absorb the excess oil on the crispy chicken or use an air fryer. We went in on a pretty empty night and were seated right away without a reservation. Ambiance is nice, it's the sort of place you can dress up for but it's not required. Our waiter was fairly attentive, and brought our drinks quickly. Food was slower to come out, which seemed a little odd since it was so empty but we didn't die so it's okay. My friend got a steak, and we're probably all in agreement a seafood restaurant isn't typically the best place to order a steak- so no shocker, it wasn't anything fabulous. I got the crab cake off the appetizer menu as my main because I suspected the entree option with two crab cakes would be too much and it was pretty darned good! Honestly, two would have been way too much. I live locally, and probably won't be back too soon because we have so many great seafood restaurants to pick from but I wouldn't turn down another meal here sometime in the future. read more

Others in my party were happy. They got a burger, the spicy chicken burgers, and peel and eat shrimp. Everything tasted good. I got the crab cake burger. Excellent quality, but quantity was lacking. A single medium-sized crab cake meant my burger was more bread than anything else. The chicken burgers were overflowing with chicken and the regular burger was well proportioned.
