Oh my God, what an experience I was very much so unaware that the Marriott at Virginia Beach oceanfront offered a rooftop on their rooftop is called Orion's roof. It's on the 23rd floor of the Marriott as soon as I arrived I saw that they offer valet parking so I opted into doing that. Then I was instructed to go to 23rd floor to enter the rooftop. Luckily we made a reservation because Orion's roof is known for always being busy and you might have a long wait. However once you met with the hostess, she took us to our table. We sat towards the back of the restaurant with the view of the oceanfront, which is gorgeous. They also have seating on the actual like outside rooftop where they have fire pits, and you can overlook the ocean as well as the city. However, as soon as we sat down, our waitress came over she explained the menu it is a Asian cuisine restaurant so they were out a lot of Asian cuisine options she also gave us a drink menu and she needs suggestions. I forget what type of drinks that I got, but they were delicious. I believe the first one was a pomegranate martini. The second drink was another pomegranate martini and the third drink was espresso martini. Once my friend arrived we decided to order appetizers. The first appetizer I ordered was the oysters which were fresh oysters with lemon, hot sauce, vinegar, horseradish, any type of topping that you would like my friend ordered their muscles, which came in this really good brown broth with bao buns. The broth was so delicious. He had to drink it like soup. Once all the muscles were gone. The muscles were cooked to perfection very well seasoned very well cooked not chewy just very delectable the oysters or chefs kiss they were very, very delicious flavorful and cooked to the right temperature. Next, we ordered our entrées. I ordered the Bronzino fish that came came with rice and a vegetable my friend ordered I think the Atlantic cod which also came with vegetables and rice. We did not order dessert, but we did order a espresso martini. The espresso martini was great. We asked for Baileys to make it a little more smoother and sweet, and it was also recommendation from our waitress. The ambience was to die for from the views the music playing in the background the upbeat waitresses and waiters are moving around the restaurant. It was very like high class and fancy restaurant so that was that was really nice. Overall, it was a great experience. I really enjoyed it. I wish I would've known about this rooftop earlier in my space at the Hilton oceanfront but I definitely will return. I suggest if you were in the area and you want to try rooftop and you wanna have like a little classy evening or good dinner that's not typically just seafood. I suggest trying out this roof top. It's hard to write a review about a place with this view and then talk about anything else. So let me get that out of the way first: the view is amazing! Everything else would have to be pretty bad to overshadow it. Fortunately, the food complements the view. It was excellent. I had the branzino, which was delicious, and my wife had the short ribs, which were excellent as well. But I think that's where "excellent" and above ends. Our waitress was good and provided solid service, but I think the service overall could--and should--be better. The real letdown was the reservation process. We were a group of six and had reservations. When we arrived, we waited about 10-15 minutes before being directed to the sushi bar. Who makes reservations for six people at a sushi bar? That shouldn't even be an option for a party of six. To their credit, the waitstaff pulled together a section for us in the bar area after another 15-20 minute wait. Unfortunately, it was an awkward setup for six people trying to converse and have a good time. We asked if we could be moved to the empty section next to us, but were told those tables were reserved for parties of two. No problem--that sounds plausible. The problem is, those tables stayed empty for the entirety of our visit. The drinks were average as well. Anytime I order an Old Fashioned and it comes with regular ice cubes instead of one large cube, I already know what's coming. The ice melts too quickly and waters the drink down. Orion's Roof could--and should--be an easy five-star dining experience, but it falls short. The good news is that most of the issues holding it back seem relatively easy to fix. read more

Orion's was my husband and I's honeymoon splurge: I wanted seafood at a fancy restaurant with a view, and Orion's did not disappoint! The view was stunning, and although we weren't seated directly next to a window, we could see a lot of the ocean front from where we sat. The interior feels very classy and elegant (keep in mind there is a dress code if you go). You will want a reservation, and to get there about fifteen minutes early because it is on the 23rd floor of the building and there are only a few elevators which WILL stop at almost every floor. The bathrooms are near the hostess station at the front of the restaurant which is a little far if you sit in the back for the ocean view, but it wasn't too bad. My husband and I are foodies, and always eager to try new things. We tried oysters for the first time, and although I didn't like the taste, my husband enjoyed them very much. I got lobster and he ordered a sushi roll: both were delicious. The staff was very accommodating to my husbands multiple severe food allergies, although they did bring out a chocolate cake for us free of charge since it was our honeymoon, even though my husband was allergic to chocolate. We have loved going to Orion's Roof because of the unique views and setting. It is often a meeting location I suggest when friends from out of town come to visit. Our more recent visit a few weeks ago was extremely disappointing. We were first greeted by a very arrogant and rude parking attendant. . In the past, we have had the freedom to self park. We did notice on our last visit in July that the property had someone outside of the parking lot to ask the reason for our visit. On our most recent visit in August the attendant would not accept that we had reservations without us having to " show proof". It was more of his attitude and rudeness that was a concern. He would not let us turn into the parking lot until I showed the reservation confirmation on my phone. It felt very unwelcoming. The check in process went smoothly and our guests were impressed with the views, as expected. Once we received our meals , my husband's chicken sandwich was surprisingly undercooked. The staff and manager were very apologetic and did their best to correct the mistake. When the cook staff sent another chicken sandwich , they over corrected and sent an overcooked chicken which was unacceptable and unpalatable. My husband's entree was taken off our bill and they offered free dessert for our table. The staff were great and did their best to correct the problem. It was a Sunday afternoon and I'm wondering if they were short staffed. It was definitely an "off" day as far as food service was concerned. We have definitely had better there and hope this was an isolated incident. We are feeling less inclined to keep this restaurant as one of our favorite spots, especially for our out of town visitors. I got there house of rising sun cocktail it has a mild sweet and citrus flavor as well as the champagne cocktail it came with a pear as the top part to add that sweetness to make it more than what Is and everything is handcrafted they do also offer wine and beer a wide selection. They gave us a perfect layout for a party of 7 plus very considerate with making sure as people who arrive a little later were served as soon as possible and I do like services like that. I tried there 7 spiced Ahi super delicious and mix of light and bold flavors definitely a new favorite and I also had there Peruvian sushi rolls where that had more fresh and sweet taste and they had a lot of sushi options I pick this one it's little bit different from my normal rolls that I get and this was made on site fresh. The final chapter to close the night was green tea tiramisu and with suprise message, the dessert it self was nice and airy with the caramel sauce they use was amazing good. This place I highly recommend for all season long you have more options to enjoy the restaurant indoors and out. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with twinkling lights and white poinsettias leading up to the massive, breathtaking oceanfront view 23 floors up! We started off with fried pork dumplings and salted edamame. I ordered a mocktail that highlighted fresh ginger. Followed by a Caesar Salad. It featured baby romaine, shaved Parmesan and small, toasted slices of French bread with a creamy Caesar dressing. My choice for the next course was a Spider Roll with tempura fried crab, avocado, shrimp and lobster salad and eel sauce. I give it an A. My son had the Scallops served with kale ravioli. They were supposed to be jumbo scallops but were far from it. The portion was small in general. The pasta was under done. Let's give it a C. My daughter had the Half Chicken. It was cooked well. The gnocchi was "pad Thai gnocchi" and it wasn't really giving that flavor profile. We will give it a B. My grandson had the bento box. 3 Stars= Years of good experiences at Orion's Roof. 1.5 Stars= tonight's experience Tonight my wife and I ate at Orion's Roof and had a very, very poor experience. We have eaten here several times before, either for a special occasion or a normal lunch. This evening we had a 6:00 reservation with a window slot reserved for a celebration. The table wasn't available on time- not a huge issue- as the couple there before us had paid and was continuing their conversation. We were moved from our four top to the two top by the window in short order. Our waiter apologized, but didn't seem focused on our experience and seemed a bit frazzled. He poured our water, but at no point asked us if we'd like to order a drink of any kind. Then, our waiter proceeded to hold court in the corner of the room in which we were sat, talking for approximately 10-15 (minutes to a couple at the end. He gave the corner table his business card, talked about how "15 texts have come in today asking to get a ten-top" and engaging them in conversation while offering no refills or drinks. At one point I remarked to my wife, "What are the odds that our appetizers are sitting in the window right now as he's chatting?" Sure enough, the entrees arrived before the appetizers. This got our waiter's attention, and he came over to check on the appetizers. He said something about them coming to the window and being remade, so out they came approximately five minutes after the entrees. The long and short of it is this- my wife and I booked a dinner at Orion's Roof expecting an experience befitting the prices and the Marriott standard. The timing of the meal, the feeling that our waiter had more important/powerful customers to serve, and the overall quality of the dinner service fell far short of our expectations. Some of the elevators do not work and you will not be able to get to the 23rd floor to the restaurant. Good luck and I hope you find the right elevator. We had reservations but they were not ready for us. We barely fit in the tiny space where they sat us, so they had to move some of us and then some of us had to move again. I ordered the short rib udon and the soba sushi. Both were meh. The short rib udon was more fat than anything else. The food was also incredibly expensive considering the quality and the portions. This is that one place I am going to tell you to book WAY in advance for a good table, like 2-3 weeks in advance--at least. Service: 10/10. Once you get your car valet, you get in and there is this grand wall decoration, and then you use the elevator to go to the 23 rd foot I guess. There are other options for parking too. After you get in, you get seated to the reserved seat. Well, it's better if you have a pre reserved spot for dinner. They have this amazing ocean view and an open rooftop lookout area. We came here for dinner without reservations and were served pretty quickly, however, we were placed at the sushi bar by a dark corner... I didn't like that the bar stools couldn't move aside and Im glad I got the corner because that was where all the table and arm space was available. Food was just okay. I would recommend getting their featured Ahi Tuna nachos - it was a special the time when we went. The flavors on the nacho and tuna was...perfect. I loved the kick of flavor that it had too. We then order the sword fish and some sushi. The sword fish was pretty tough - I think they may have overcooked it, and the sushi...was just ordinary. And yes... the handcrafted cocktails understood the assignment. The reason for the 3 stars was due to the customer service or lack of. But service and price for food versus the quality, not worth it. We had the weirdest experience with our server. She started out by giving us water but disappeared. 45 minutes later, a new server came by to tell us the other one had to go home and she'd be taking over. But she came to us with weird energy and just rubbed us the wrong way. And towards the end of the night, we saw our original server was still in the restaurant so what was that even about?! TL;DR: Horrible service and beautiful, flavorless food. All vibes and vision, terrible execution. My family grabbed a reservation on a Saturday, and I can totally understand things like rushing waiters, the kitchen being in the weeds and food being late. But none of that was happening here. We had a beautiful view of the full moon over the ocean. Gorgeous views. The front of the restaurant was full of life and the restaurant is gorgeous. Great vibes. Then we got the waiter, a disheveled man with a notepad (again, it's Saturday. I've worked in restaurants, it can get crazy. But he was slurring his words and slamming his hands down on the table as he talked and it freaked me out.). We begin ordering drinks and apps. The son of a gun is nice, but nothing exciting. The stinger mocktail is weirdly savory but I liked the rising sun cocktail. 3/5 The apps came: my husband's chicken yakitori and my son's miso, which was so salty none of us could take more than two sips. My husband will eat food so it isn't wasted and he just couldn't do it. We weren't the only party that complained about it either. 1/5 But where's my app? Oh, the waiter didn't even put my hamachi carpaccio on the ticket. Once I got it, it was good, though getting the yuzu pearls into the bite was impossible with a fork (no spoons) and I could do without the cilantro, I would've used shiso flowers. 3/5 Now entrees: the scallops were topped with big slumps of wet red pepper that ruined the crust, the corn "foam" was deflated with a skin on it so it must've been waiting a while under hot lights, and the quinoa was mixed with a creamy, pungent cheese that didn't go with the underseasoned, yet sweet, scallops. 2/5 for the scallops alone. My husband got the miso cod for our Swiss plate and the swordfish. Cod: bland! And look at those vegetables, not a speck of salt or pepper it tasted like frozen veggies from a bag. The swordfish also had no seasoning and the broccolini was overcooked. My husband eats everything given to him but he didn't want to finish his meal. 1/5 As for my son's children's yakitori meal? Again, THE WAITER DIDNT EVEN PUT IT ON THE TICKET! -5/5 But wait, when we got the check, we got double charged for the kids yakitori! And the miso we sent back. So we had the waiter go back and fix this mess. 0/5 But hey, the ocean was pretty. And the restaurant is nice to look at.
