I have been working with this facility for years now, and I must say the nurses all show very great care towards their patients. i'm not going to name anyone specific, but I just know I've seen first hand the genuine care they provide at this facility. Most of the staff is highly competent and caring but some of them shouldn't even be allowed to care for animals. My wife and others are sometimes left in their own waste for 2 0r 3 hours. They frequently run out of a patient meds because to don't keep proper track of inventory, and it sometimes takes days to replenish them. You can complain to Management and things are better for a while but are soon back to the same old shit. read more

My mother was brought after a brief stay in Los Alamitos hospital. We arrived about 30 minutes after she got there and found her wandering in the hall unsupervised, covered in feces and a full trash can from the previous patient at her bedside. The staff was completely unaware and inattentive. The place was filthy and smelled horrible. We proceeded to inform the supervisor we were taking her out of there. He then told me there would be ramifications. I'm about to show them some ramifications! There is no compassion for the care of the elderly and Medicare is a joke! read more

My Mom, who's a heart attack victim, was there for less than 40 hours. The first night (she arrived around 9:30pm) was fine. The second night was not. The night nurse (male, Hispanic) gave my mom some meds. She thought was given two tylenols and a stool softener; she was given two cholesterol pills and a pill to lower her blood pressure (don't know why, she had been having low blood pressure issues at the hospital). She had trouble swallowing; she called for her nurse. He asked her 'Do you know what time it is? It's 1am!" He moved her handset (to call for assistance) and closed the door. She asked her two roommates to call, no one did. She suffered through the night with swollen lips and not being able to swallow. The next day, she was taken to the hospital where they ran tests. It looks like she did have an allergic reaction to the meds the night nurse gave her...but he wouldn't know because he disregarded her. And now, they have lost her belongings. I went back the next day after she was transported to the hospital to discover that her belongings were gone. And they have no Inventory List...hmmm, did they offer the 88 year old a list at 9:30pm when she arrived? They damn sure didn't offer me one when I went to visit her on Thursday afternoon. I have enjoyed my stay here at Catered Manor Nursing Center. The staff have been a great help from setting up transportation to and from my Dialysis and to and from my Doctors appointments. Kudos to the Nuring Staff and Keisey. I know that this is just the tip of the Nursing Operations here at Catered Manor. I enjoyed the physical Therapy sessions with Lulu, Mec, Dana, Leilan and Jennifer. They made it hard up to a point to get me more strength in my arms and legs. The conversation with the other patients was nice too. The Activities Director Alicia with her support team Mary-Cruz and Christian made the days Activities with Bingo, Iced Coffee hour, Barbecue Q lunch, popsicle, Special Breakfast morning with many many more Activities to be enjoyed by the residents and staff alike. I will cherish with fond memories of my stay here. I wil not forget the many friendships that I have made. If asked I would recommend Catered Manor Nursing Center. read more

This facility is good. Along with Marlora, they were the two most recommended by the doctors and nurses we talked with. It has a pretty warm and open feel for that sort of place and is in a nice neighborhood in Bixbie Knolls. There are a lot of windows and they were relatively small so had a more personal feel. It also had a less "clinical" feel than some of the other facilities we toured. You should look at it if you are choosing a skilled nursing facility. This next part is for Catered Manor directly and why I didn't give them a higher rating. My father was discharged from the hospital in reasonably good condition despite a poor prognosis due to many health issues. I had to return to Arizona to take care of some business just when he entered there and my sister from Oregon was in town to oversee his care but got the flu (which later turned into Pneumonia). So she was unable to visit on a day-to-day basis. We were told that in a few days his Medicare was going to run out and he would be transferred to a horrible nursing home. I called to get a medical prognosis so we could plan where to send him and it took THREE DAYS for the Nurse Practitioner in charge of his care to call me back. They gave us an unexpected bleak outlook for him and my wife and I scrambled to make arrangements in ONE DAY and then drive from Arizona to Long Beach to see to those plans and to spend some time with him. 3 hours from Los Angeles we got a call that he passed away. It is not only unprofessional to not return phone calls but, in this case, it cost me the opportunity to be with my father when he passed away. We had NO IDEA he was in such imminent danger of dying. That was not the picture painted by the Hospital though we knew it was "when" not "if." The people who work in these places need to be far more responsive to the families (especially when they aren't nearby) to keep them informed with accurate and current information so they can make appropriate plans. This delay in calling me back was unacceptable and cost them a star in the rating and it's going to take some time to forgive them for it. read more

Nursing home is pretty clean. The rooms aren't the greatest but they have the necessities of a curtain and a bed. Share a bathroom with another room. There is an outdoor patio area. Staff members are nice. Free street parking available. read more

I had a very good experience at this nursing home while visiting my grandmother while she stayed there. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The nurses are very confident about their decisions for patients and are also good on informing/ensuring family members when they visit. Such as myself, whenever i visited my grandmother I knew she was in good hands with their team of nurses. The staff treated my grandmother with kindness and respect and not just as any other patient . The facility itself is clean and is in a nice area of long beach, free parking outside the facility too! definitely recommended other people for this facility! :) read more

Came here to visit my sisters husband while he was on therapy staff was nice & treated me well and gave me good answers for my questions

The staff here is very nice but the problem is they are grossly understaffed! I can't emphasize this enough. Asked for a cold wash cloth at 4:45 pm this afternoon and it is now 9:40 pm and I am still waiting. I can't get it myself as I can't walk. Still not getting correct dosage of necessary medication i.e. blood pressure. Won't be back no matter what. read more

do not send your loved one here, no matter what the situation is do not send them here!! my dad is there currently due to needing to have rehab on walking while he was there his blood pressure dropped and they were not going to anything about it!! my siblings had to go all the way over there to call 911 them selves to have my dad rushed to the hospital. nurses dont seem to care about whats going on. all they can do is apologize. are they going to just apologize when someone passes? bullshit and i will be removing my father asap from this facility. worse place ever!!!! if you dont have time to check on your loved one then by all means leave them here but if you love your loved one do not send them and trust anyone here read more

I visited my grandma, The facility is really clean, and smells nice not like the old one my grandma used to be,. The nurses are always around whenever you need them, and my grandma is always clean whenever I stop by even if it's a surprise visit. I really appreciate this facility,. I am a VN student from Homestead Schools Inc. and i am very fortunate to have been given a chance to do our clinical internship at Catered Manor. The director of Nursing is pro-education. They encourage and help future nurses. The facility is very pleasant and employee's main goal is to provide excellent patient care. Seeing how they are towards their patients inspire aspiring nurses like us, to be the best we can be in this industry. I will definitely recommend Catered Manor to friends and relatives looking for a home for their love ones. And for those who are trying to recuperate on their current acute illnesses. I Highly Recommend Catered Manor, and cannot say enough good things about them. They truly take great care of their patients. If you are looking for a place for yourself, a loved one, or a friend, I suggest you check them out. I spent the last five months going there several times a week as my friend was there with end-stage COPD. In the beginning of her stay she was overwhelmed. We set up several meetings with their management, the staff in charge of her care there, the staff from hospice that would be also be involved in taking care of her, and me, her friend and helper, as we helped her get acclimated. They all promised to do whatever they could to make her happy, and they went above and beyond to keep that promise. I am so grateful to them for all they did. They made her end of life experience the best it could be, under the circumstances. They made her feel loved, and even when she became overwhelming with her demands, or complaints, they were gentle and kind while they did as much as they could to placate her, or explain why it was not possible to give her what she wanted.. She was as happy as a person could be given the circumstances. She loved them all and the care they provided her. A few days before she passed, she told me another reason she would be sad to go was because she will miss them. Up until the last day, she was joking with the nurses and staff. It was not fun, nor was it easy, but they helped her make it as comfortable and tolerable as possible. They not only took great care of her, but as someone who has gone through hell in nursing homes and rehab centers in the past, I paid close attention to how they ran their operation. I walked around that facility countless times and was impressed with their routine, the care I saw them giving their patients, and the way this facility is run. Every person who works there was kind, helpful, friendly and working hard to ensure that their patients' needs were met in a timely manner. They didn't just let their patients roam the halls in wheelchairs all day, like in some of the facilities I have been in, while they pointedly ignored them. If a patient called for help, someone answered that call in a very timely manner. The last thing I want to mention is the way the staff all get along and work as a team. I have Never seen this before, anywhere. This is the best run facility I have ever seen, and I have been a patient in quite a few of them over the years. Thanks to All of You at Catered Manor for taking such good care of my friend as she went through her transition. I will be Forever Grateful for your kindness and also for the help and support you gave me in helping her. read more

Catered manor is one of the worse nursing homes I have ever had experience with. My grandmother passed away there in July and her experience was less than satisfying. I constantly had to deal with impatient, and rude nurses and felt like I had to tell them how to do their job. My grandmother barely received oral care and they would take along time to attend to her when she needed something. There was even one time I called and the guy answering the phone sounded as if he was the one dying. I literally had to school him on customer service and the fact that the families calling are not just random people trying to order a meal, but are people going through a very vulnerable situation knowing their loved ones are close to the end of their lives! No one should ever have to remind those who chose that career of the"law of ethics!" I am utterly disgusted with this place. Good luck! read more

This place is unprofessional, full of rude staff who seem like they dont care for the patients. My father recently had a stroke and after being diacharged from the hospital he was recommended to go here. No one was there to check him in, no information was given to us and they didnt even bother to get info about my father's meds. I wouldnt recommend this place for a loved one. read more

I came here to visit my friend who was sick and needed therapy and IVs. The nurses were very attentive and the rehab therapy staff were very active with my friends care. He went to the dining hall most of the time and the activity lady is amazing! She makes the patients feel like they are family, and not just sick people there for a short time. I highly recommend this place if you really need to go somewhere to get help after being in the hospital. My friend is very happy with the care they provided him and is back at home. When I went in the 1st night, I was a little bit worried since I really didn't know very much about Catered Manor. I was taken there by ambulance from the hospital. I woke up the next morning and it was just such a lean facility and everybody was so nice and helpful. I broke both of my legs in a car accident and the staff was very careful to give me the care that I needed. The only downside I had (and it's not worth taking a star away), was the amount of time it took to be released. Overall, I recommend this facility highly. read more

They have a very real staffing problem. After being told to not leave the bed without assistance to use the toilet, there was frequently a wait of thirty to forty five minutes before any response ti calls for help. Three people to a small room. The noise level was INCREDIBLE from multiple television sets turned up very high with multiple languages blaring out. Physical Therapy services were very good. Food was carbohydrates heavy. It took almost a week to convince the staff regarding gluten intolerance issues. Medicine delivery to schedule was impossible to maintain. CNAs were greatly overworked and apparently underpaid. Rooms were kept clean but there were lapses - commode was left "full" for over eight hours. All in all, a place best avoided. read more

My mom hadn't walked or spoken in 4 months with home care. She has been at catered manor 2 weeks and began talking, walked with assistance and uses the bathroom with assistance. I was there everyday and the facility was clean and staff helpful and attentive to her and other patients. read more

Wow! I'm so glad I looked at this center as an option for my rehab I needed after my hip surgery. After looking at 2 others I decided on Catered Manor. Although it didn't look like they spent a whole lot of money on the decor, this place was very clean and the staff were so very attentive and really know what they were talking about. It was great to see the same rehab staff everyday and how they accommodated my schedule as I am not much of a morning person. The staff treated me as a person and I didn't get the feeling like I was just another number. I was a little worried before the transfer from the hospital but it turned out to be a great transition. I'm home now and walking sooner than the doctor expected. Great facility...must check it out if you have surgery. read more

We feel fortunate to have found the Catered Manor for my 84 yesr old Mother for her two weeks of rehab after she had broken her hip & needed rehab after surgery. Good nursing homes are hard to find but this is a good one! They have a RN on duty 24/7....the Director of Nurses, Tracy, was awesome and so personable. The dedication of the CNA were in general good but so overworked! We won't forget your extra work Denise! The Phyical Therapists were outstanding, especially Andy, May & Jessica. Your efforts and kindness will not be forgotten! One of the housekeepers, Alicia, was absolutely amazing...such a worker plus a sweet personality to all the patients. This place is HORRIBLE and smells. My Uncle was treated poorly and was sent to another assisted living home when they knew he already had a very expensive assisted living home already and didn't even contact me as his power of attorney knowing that fact. I had to call the police to extract my uncle from the place Catered manor put him in with NO medications that went with him. Stay away from this place!! Visit for yourself to see. This place is horrible! While visiting my grandmother, we found that wrong information was put in the chart by their PA so she was not receiving the correct care nor the correct medications. We were lied to by the staff when asked why my grandmother had been in bed all day. Their excuse was that she did not want to leave her bed and they cannot force a patient out of bed. This was not the case. Patients that are wheelchair bound with severe dementia roam the halls unsupervised while others are forced to stay in bed. An alarm when off during my visit that continued for almost 15 min. When I asked what the noise was for, I was told it was a patient ringing for assistance. I commented on the length of time and the nurse stated that they would get to it. In a 2 hour period, the alarm was sounded at least 3 times and exceeded 10 min each time. My grandmother was placed here as a temporary situation until she got her strength back. When she was placed here, she could not hold a spoon nor a cup by herself. The staff put food and water in front of her, but never fed her or checked on her. No one questioned why she had not drank any water or ate any food. We questioned some sores on her that were not there when she left our care and were told it was due to urine or perspiration, but they did not document the findings. In the week she was here, she made little progress. We moved her to a better facility and within a few days she stood up with use of a walker and even took steps. We also asked the new medical staff about the sores we found. They were diagnosed as Stage 2 bed sores. read more

My Brother was there for three weeks and he only got worse. He had liver disease and was supposed to eat very healthy nothing canned or processed but this facility that is what they served. He was never given fruits or vegetables with his meals and sometimes they would give him the same food twice a day. The food tasted salty- a big No No because my brother was supposed to eat a diet low in sodium. When I requested for them to give him a snack between meals to one of the employees, the employee said, "He needs to ask." Definitively not good. Anyway the snacks were processed so they were not good choices. The physical therapist was not compassionate. My brother did try to do therapy but he was in pain most of the times. Also, the comments that she made were very negative. Not helpful if you want to encourage a person. By the third week he was sent home and passed away a few days later in October 2017. We suspect that his wife stopped giving him all his medicines and also refused to take him to the hospital. We talked to the social worker from the HMO about our concerns that we had about his wife and she did not help us at all. Also, the social worker said to my brother, "The reason you're here is to do physical therapy. Now if you just want to be here it is going to cost $204." Very inappropriate to said such things. read more

My husband was in this facility and he was not taken care of...they had no RN on duty that knew about his stints in his kidneys and they did not keep them clean and did not check every morning for infections. This I had to do myself. They did not bath him and when I brought him home, due to their inability to take care of him properly, he was very dirty. His private parts were crusted and dirty. It took my RN that I hired an hour to get him clean and skin lotion applied. He also had bed sores which they had been trying to heal since he got them at their facility in June and he came home with them, but our nurses finally got them healed...just before he passed away. I would sincerely suggest that no one take a very ill loved one there. I even hired a LVN to sit with him there from noon til 8PM to be sure he was not mistreated. read more

no negative thing to say about catered manor, all staff is helpfull, i visited my aunt after office hours some of the management heads are still working, i was asking for my aunts medication list but the nurse politely informed me that since my name is not listed as a responsible party then she needs to ask permission from my aunt first, the facility does not have the usual facility smell when you go inside, i only find it smelly when my aunts diaper was changed or her roomate but the smell doesnt stay that long, my mom was informed early about the possibility of paying in private once insurance stops paying for my aunts stay, probably i dont have any complains since im working in a snf too, as far as hippa, cleanliness, over all care catered manor did a good job read more

When I would go in person I was told they would have the Dr. and/or physical therapist call me "as they were gone for the day"- I never received call back.
