We ordered surf and turf... steak was ok but lobster tail was smaller than promised. Server was sweet. New England Clam Chowder was mostly cream and not enough potatoes or clams. Seafood seems semi-fresh. Can't beat the fish market or going out east though. Our first time here. Showed up around 5pm on a Saturday night or was pretty busy. The kitchen was a little backed up, but they got us seated in a reasonable amount of time. The staff looked a bit young, but they did a great job as a team working the tables. They all had a part in meal, one would seat, another would take our order, clear plates, refill out glasses. Service is great. The food was timed nicely, we never felt rushed, we had time to eat the bread before the appetizer came out, finished that and entrée came out shortly. Came here last evening for dinner in the dining room. There was another 4 top table eating and place was quiet. Me and my guest took our jackets off sat down and was freezing. The other table of 4 had their jackets on. Asked the 13 year old server to turn some heat on and she replied that it was on. Opened menu to see some fancy pricing and we could have went to many other nearby restaurants for same fare and price. My guest was starving and said let's just eat here. Big mistake! Ordered sword fish. 10 minutes later server came back and said the last piece of swordfish is very small so you can select another type of fish in addition. Had Cod. The entree came with cup of soup supposed to be New England clam chowder. Only cream and some tiny bits of potato. Taste like bacon only and nothing like NECC. My guest ordered as I didn't want to cause freezing and wouldn't enjoy the meal. The entree came out about 3 oz piece of cod which was good and about 4oz piece of swordfish that obviously was around the place for a while. The veggie mix that came on plate consisted of carrots, zucchini, cauliflower and broccoli steamed perfect but tasted musty and as if it was steamed in fish water. Had an unsweetened ice tea and ordered a pint of seafood bisque to take home at the same time we placed the food order that's all that we had. Total Bill $36.00!! They have to be kidding. The additional $7.00 tip totaling $43.00 cause the young teenage girl tried and wasn't her fault the food was the pitts! We use to come here all the time. The fish market refrig counter was a lot longer and the food was much better. There was no action At the seafood market counter (if you want to call it that) dark and very dim. Guess Anthony must of sold it cause when he was there all the time thing were very good. Save your money and if you crave fish, go next door to the Chinese restaurant as they have awesome fish selection and entrees at modest prices. I end up back there once a year purely for convenience and swear it off every time. This time, I'm done. $7 a dozen for frozen chowder clams? Items such as reg uncooked shrimp and raw calimari also unnecessarily pricey. The $5 lb steamer special is decent Tried over summer and my bag registered 5.01 lbs. He literally took a single clam out to get it on the nose... Think they would rather die than give a bakers dozen of clams. Not how I like to do business. Excellent clams, lobster, mussels and shrimp. Took everything to go as our dinner plans changed and I decided to cook as opposed to going out. Owner is awesome and engaging - seafood counter is diverse and everything is extremely fresh. A flawless experience all around at Catfish Annie's in Commack! Wanted to take out lobster and shrimp for Easter dinner while sheltering in place during virus. The owner Anthony personally helped us. Extremely helpful and friendly even during these difficult times. The lobsters and shrimp were simply delicious and out of this world. All social distancing was observed. We had to wait for about a second in our car for his staff to run the credit card receipt through the machine and to thank us for our time Anthony gave us 3/4 of a pound of cleaned cooked shrimp! We highly recommend the food and the wonderful experience of dealing with the owner and staff both now and when the virus restrictions end!!! Looking forward all day to their twin lobster special; unfortunately it was not available. So I ordered the 1.25 lb lobster steamed. It was nowhere near 1.25 when it came. I was weaned on lobster and have eaten at least a 1,000 of the delicious creatures. But CAtfish Annie's cheated me with a small lobster. See the pic. I asked to speak to the owner and out came a teenager who said he was the manager. He agreed the lobster was small; he went to the kitchen and came back and they said it was small. So I was given a certificate for a pint of soup. I explained that customers want what they pay a higher price for and all he did was nod and walk away. When bill came, not even a penny was reduced or the can of soda comp'd, not that I was looking or asking for either. We have lived in Hauppauge for about 20 years, and went to Catfish Annies a few times for Lobster. My wife felt like having mussels , and I like Calamari, and usually go to Vincent's where it is great. I didn't expect much from the Calamari, but it was much worse than I could have ever hoped for. It must have come from a freezer bag. My wife's Mussels with whit sauce was also horrible. the Bisque was OK. The sauce for the Calamari was actually pretty good. Will never go back. This has been my go to place for fresh seafood for years. Have tried other more convenient locations with hit or miss results. When you have to pay such high prices for sea food the last thing you want is an empty lobster. Annie's is a bit of a ride for me but worthwhile. I have never, I mean never been disappointed with there fresh seafood. I've never eaten in the restaurant, very confusing reviews, almost same amount of bad and good reviews. Catfish Annie's has been is a long time favorite of ours for fresh seafood. Yes it might not be the fanciest place however I'd gladly give up some ambiance for the guarantee of fresh seafood and outstanding service. An example of what we had in our most recent visit which is typical of what we order here: Bread basket and butter to start. Bread was soft on the outside and crunchy on the outside. It tasted freshly baked and was perfect along with our soup course. The seafood bisque was served piping hot with plenty of seafood. Our main courses were: - Fried seafood platter: contained scallops, shrimp, flounder (sole?), and clam strips. Big portion and not greasy. It was served with a side of linguine and red sauce. - Fried flounder with baked potato. Similar to above, big portion and not greasy. - Bouillabaisse: This was a Daily special and after eating it we wish it were added to the regular menu. It was loaded with all the various seafood that you would expect to see in such a dish. So much we couldn't finish and brought home the leftovers for lunch the next day. We have been going to Catfish Annies for as long as I can remember. Don't let the strip mall location or no frills interior deter you. They have high quality fresh seafood at reasonable prices. Hate to leave a negative review but this time I must. I Ordered lobster tails that were 35.00 and my husband ordered soft shell crabs. We waited quite some time to be served and it was not crowded. His dinner was decent my lobster tails that were steamed came out dry, overdone with zero flavor. For 35.00 I sent them back as they were inedible. The water who was very pleasant took them back and offered me something else. I opted for the steamed scallops which was 23.00 and arrived quickly and were just ok. The icing on the cake was the 35.00 lobster was not taken off the bill! Rather then just charging for a scallop dinner they kept the original bill. We asked for a manager when my husband disputed the bill at which point the waiter stated he was the manager and would not change the bill. All in all the food was fair at best! Wait time was way to long. Don't waste your money. A fine restaurant charges the same price for lobster and at least it would be good! read more

I have eaten here for years, and have always enjoyed the fish & chips. Went today for lunch, arriving at 12:40. We were "greeted" by a man who rudely told us we would be waiting for ten minutes. Our waiter was much nicer, and explained that the restaurant doesn't open until 1:00 (what?), but upon learning that our unwelcoming greeting was from the owner we decided to find another place to eat. The price of their raw fish to buy over the counter is outrageous. There is no way a middle class family can buy fish at these prices. When it comes to fish I'm very particular...especially about salmon. I stopped ordering it from restaurants because I don't like when it's oily or has a fishy taste. My friend cooked me salmon from Catfish Annie's and although skeptical at first, I'm glad I didn't pass on it. It was awesome. The best salmon I've had, and now the only place I'll go to get it. Craving seafood, I took my parents to Catfish Annies for dinner tonight. Simple, neat, clean neighborhood place with an eager to please staff. Our waitress, Concetta was so very sweet and accommodating and made sure my folks and myself had everything we asked for. The bus staff was attentive and cleared the table at the right time-no rushing. Now on to the food. The seafood bisque was very good, light and tasty. My mom had the fried shrimp which were large, crispy and cooked to perfection, my dad had the broiled Fishermans platter which he devoured and I had no problem finishing off the broiled triple lobster tail special. We all had baked potatoes with the side of mixed vegetables - carrots, broccoli and zucchini - delicious! Too stuffed for dessert this time, but we will be back! P.S. Dinner for 3-$85 dollars! My father had a favorite expression: I know he cheats, but he's the only game in town. That's what this place is all about. I asked for crabmeat. He pointed me to what looked a lot like those cheap "krab stix" you get in the supermarket. But if memory serves, the price tag was like $19 a pound--kinda pricey for fake stuff (but suspiciously, not too bad for real dungeness). So I asked him why it was so expensive and he said "cuz it's dungeness crabmeat." I doubted it, but this being my first time there, I trusted him. I brought it home, tasted it, and my suspicions were confirmed. There was no way this was real crab meat. It looked and tasted fake, right down to the red outer coating. I wish I could have had this tested and officially exposed his fraud. Needless to say, I never bought anything else here. I feel safer buying fish and seafood from Shop Rite. Disappointed is the key word here. I had eaten at Catfish Annies a few years ago and remember having a good meal, but this time there's just no way to soften it , the meal was totally disappointing. I ordered something pretty standard: the broiled Fisherman's Platter beginning with New England clam chowder. The Chowder should have been called potato chowder with a couple of clams. The Fisherman's Platter, which cost over $22 a plate, consisted of 5 small scallops that were completely overdone, 1 large shrimp that was so overcooked it was inedible, a two by two piece of filet - I don't know what kind of fish it was but it was edible, and 2 baked clams, at least I think they were clams, it was mostly breading and seasoning, and very salty. The vegetable medley that came with the dish was cooked beyond eating. The baked potato was fine and the coffee at the end of the meal was good. The meal cost $70 plus tip for two people, probably about $50 too much. In addition, we stood at the front of the line waiting to be seated for almost 15 minutes (at the sign that states Hostess Will Seat You) before any of the 8 waitstaff even made eye contact and finally informed us there was a 25 minute wait. Maybe Friday night is not their night , maybe their chef wasn't feeling well, maybe they've just been there too long and people go there because they're used to it and accept mediocre food a high cost. In the past I have purchased fish and even brought in dinners from Catfish Annies. I had been pretty happy with the service and the food; however, because of the disrespect I received as a person (not only a customer), I will never go there again. This past Sunday I was there about 12:30pm to buy some shrimp and baked clams, since my daughter and her boyfriend were visiting. I started walking into the restaurant, but it was odd because there were no lights on and no one by the counters. I yelled if anyone was around and got no answer, so I walked out. I thought for a minute how strange that was, I walked back in and that is when a young man and the same gentleman, who has helped me in the past, stepped behind the fish counter. I asked if they had clams, the older man said "yes" and explained how to heat them up in the oven. Because my husband is not a fish lover and hates when the house smells like fish, I asked him if the house would smell. Well, that was not the question to ask- he barks back that, " These are not supermarket clams and that his clams and fish would never smell up anyone's house!" I was pretty taken back by his response, I think I actually stood there with my mouth open. He then barks again at me about how many do I want. I was so shell shocked I was not even sure and finally gave a number. The young man then takes over my order, I could not help but notice the embarrassed look on his face. At that point, I also decided to forget the shrimp, I did not want to give this man anymore of my business. I am pretty sure the man went in the back and that is when the young man said he was so sorry. He then told me how much the order was, as I pulled out my credit card the man comes back to the counter and proceeds to yell at me, "WE DON'T TAKE CREDIT CARDS!" I really should have thrown the package back at him, but as I paid with cash I said to him in the sweetest, calmest voice that I was sorry if by chance I set him off when I first came in and did not realize the store was open. In the nastiest tone he said that was not what set him off, it was that question if "his" fish would smell. I stood there for a moment and then decided to speak my mind. I told him it took a lot for me to say this, but I did not understand his tone, and that when I have been here in the past he was very nice and helpful. He started saying something and again in the rudest tone. I just could not deal with his behavior any longer and stopped him in the middle of the sentence to point out he was yelling at me for no reason. He yelled back that that was the way he speaks and walked from the back of the counter down the main aisle of the restaurant telling me he was not going to listen to this any longer. I was so completely baffled by what just happened. As I left with my clams, I noticed that sweet, young man was backed up against the counter mortified. I do not know if that was his son or just an employee, but at least he knew better. I will never-ever step foot in that establishment again. I will also make sure that the people I work (already told them), people I exercise with, organizations I am involved in, and all my other friends know how I was treated. **By the way- today I went to North Shore Farms and bought some fish. As I gave my order for Lemon Filet of Sole, the man behind the counter said to me, "I'm going to get you the nice pieces." Just a little example of how to treat a customer. read more

This review is for the seafood market, most notably the staff. The restaurant is great, quick and affordable. I called to get a quote on lobster prices per pound, and the man/boy who answered the phone was beyond rude, as though I were inconveniencing him. He would not give me a straight answer (which did not seem difficult considering the question was "how much is your lobster per pound?") and yelled at me when I asked him to clarify his question of "how much" I wanted. Regardless, this was not my first time experiencing rude staff when trying to buy seafood from their market and my family, friends, and I will take our business down the street. read more

All of the dishes we have had in several visits were super fresh and very well-prepared. The broiled seafood combo platter and crab meat stuffed flounder are delicious! Service is excellent and friendly. Love the fresh good-quality salads that are served with the dinner and the creamy garlic dressing!! The meals also come with veggies! I created a Yelp account just to review this 'restaurant'. I got there on a Saturday around 11:30 a.m. for an early lunch. I WAS THE ONLY CUSTOMER. I let them know I was here to sit and that it was my first time there. I had a hankering for catfish, hence my trip to Catfish Annies. I browsed the menu and noticed that there was no mention of catfish, anywhere. My server was taking a little while to get to my table, so I walked up to the counter to inquire as to if they served catfish there. I was told they did. I returned to my seat, waited for the server and when she came ordered the fried calamari appetizer and fried catfish entree'. Lots of pale breading and chewy calamari arrived in short order with a bland marinara. I finished my beer and the calamari and waited, and waited. At one point, I saw my server walk out of the place in what appeared to be a trip to the supermarket down the strip. I waited. She came back, unloaded the groceries and she walked the cart back outside. I waited some more. She came to the table and asked if I'd like another beer, which I did. She brought that and I was still waiting for my entree'. At 12:10 (40 minutes later), my catfish arrived, I couldn't wait to dig in! Hoo boy. After blotting the extra oil from the four good-size fillets, I took my first bite. Even after adding salt, hot sauce, and some tartar sauce, it just wasn't good. The breading was oily and the fish was mushy. It had been stacked on top of the fries which were, in turn, made oily as well. I pushed it away and waited for my server, again. When she came to my table, she simply took my plate and started walking away. I said 'Well, since you didn't ask, I'll let you know how everything was and why I was returning 3/4 of my meal'. I told her what happened and she apologized. She came back and offered to swap it for something else but, quite frankly, the oil was floating on top of the beer and I just couldn't eat anything else. $25? Definitely not worth it.
