Another exceptional meal at Harbor House! And we were delighted that their outdoor seating is Pet Friendly, so we were able to dine with our recently rescued toy poodle mix Princess Sadie! And once again the food was amazing. We both enjoyed the lunch special Rigatoni with Pork Ragu, Delicious, with tons of shredded pork on a tasty sauce. She had the warm salad for an app, and I had the fried Ravioli, Crisp and delicious! Also, the 3 flavor Tartufo dessert which we split was a perfect with a cup of hot coffee. While spending a lovely day in Northport--walking the docks, admiring the boats, and strolling through the quaint town--we found ourselves looking for a new dinner spot. We're longtime fans of the Purple Elephant (a haven for dairy-free and vegan diners), but decided to branch out. After some casual menu browsing, Harbor House caught our eye and we were intrigued enough to give it a try. Atmosphere & Service: Harbor House has a cozy, welcoming interior with a warm neighborhood feel, and additional outdoor seating for those who prefer to dine al fresco. We opted to sit inside, where we were promptly greeted by the friendly and attentive staff. At check-in, I let the hostess know about a dairy allergy in our party. She immediately reassured us that the kitchen was flexible--most dishes could be modified, sauces swapped, mashed potatoes subbed out for salad, and more. That peace of mind sealed the deal. The Meal: We began with warm, fresh bread accompanied by three spreads: pesto, olive oil, and butter. All three were delicious, and the bread itself was soft and served warm--a great start. For appetizers, we chose: * Saffron Rice Balls (peppers, mozzarella, vodka sauce): A pleasant surprise! The texture was perfectly sticky and satisfying, and the flavor was rich without being heavy. * Warm Spinach Salad (spinach, walnuts, apples, pickled onions, goat cheese, bacon dressing): We subbed the dressing for a house vinaigrette and had the cheese on the side. We appreciated much the staff for allowing us to come here earlier than our reserved time. It must be difficult to saved a spot for a party of 12 but they made it possible. The place is a small but the staff has big hearts. We enjoyed our time here. Though it took a while to get our order ready, we understand because they want to serve it all at the same time. The free bread in a basket comes with great dipping sauces. Each one has no complain for what they had. I basically enjoyed my soup, sandwich and drinks. Serving size of the meal is huge and can be shared by two. Too late to know. They did not mind us asking boxes for our leftovers. Looking for parking is a challenge but we made it here. Decided to try a new spot around Northport and we were in the mood for seafood. Around Northport pier area, there are ample seafood restaurant choices but given the review, we decided to try. It was very easy to make a reservation over the phone for 2 ppl 7pm. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and we sat indoor. For appetizer, we got the mussels for $15 which was absolutely delish swimming in the creamy sauce. For entree, I got the salmon burger with fries $21. I will admit the salmon was very fresh and not breaded at all. It came in a nice brioche bun with ranch sauce on the side. The fries were freshly made. My wife got the filet grouper with snow peas and risotto for $42. One complaint is they should have remove the ends of the snow peas as it was quite stringy. The grouper was quite salty with the sauce and plus the capers which added to the saltiness. Food wise, it was a mixed reaction overall for the evening. We did enjoy the wait staff and their attentiveness. Based on last nite's visit, we will give this a strong 3 stars. read more

Fried Calamari was plentiful and tasty served with a spicy marinara . The filet mignon was about 12-14 ounces, cooked to order and served with a little melted blue cheese over a rich brown sauce. Big side of fresh spinach. Wonderful. Red Snapper special was off the charts fresh and perfectly prepared, lightly breaded and pan fried in a tasty sauce . We also had the the seafood penne bowl with generius seafood topping, large shrimp, clams and mussels. Pasta aldente. That too was outstanding. Carrot cake for dessert. Moist and delicious. A plus. Cute spot right on Main Street in Northport. We picked this spot because they said they were able to accommodate 8 adults and 8 kids. Restaurant is small but we were all on one side so not an issue. Let me start with the positives. Food was amazing and fresh. Everything we ate was good. I ordered the fish tacos and they were amazing. The baked oysters were also very good. I'm still thinking about them! With that being said, I don't think this place might be for kids or maybe a lot of kids. We ordered the kids meals before we even ordered the apps which was mostly chicken tenders and fries. Their meal didn't come for about an hour and 15 mins. The kids were getting cranky since they were hungry. Also loved the location since afterwards we just walked to the ice cream cafe, and then the playground. Had a horrible dining experience. The tomato burrata special billed as having ripe tomato's had nothing of the sort. Tomato's were like cardboard, burrata mediocre at best served over wilted greens. My penne with lobster and clams had overcooked tough rubbery lobster (all claw meet) and clams that had been sitting under a heat lamp. My wife's sole was a bit better but a bit tough and too lemony. Service was pretty bad, there were two tables seated...us and one other, so wasn't an issue of being overwhelmed. Every request (like water) felt like you were bothering the waitress. Fishier than it should've been and many pieces had these super hard tendons that you couldn't bite through. -Grilled Chicken Panini: 2/5-another menu item we figured we couldn't go with but we were wrong...again. I can't say enough amazing things about the wonderful and accommodating owner, Kevin, and how delicious the food was--from appetizers, to salads, to the main courses, and to the desserts! Harbor House Northport was a destination for a double date dinner a little while ago, and comes highly recommended by a bunch of people we've spoken with, but truthfully, I have no idea what the hype is about. This place is the definition of strictly average, everything was just alright, nothing stood out, nothing was very special, it was just alright. It's a small restaurant so definitely need a reservation to avoid waiting. We got a table right by the window in a little nook which was a nice spot, and we ordered a variety of dishes. All of them were forgettable, and the only thing I remember all of us saying as we left was, that place was just alright, and for future we'd go back to places like Skippers or Bistro 45 or Wine Bar which were much better for us. Our 1st visit to Harbor House in Northport. We were happy that we found parking so quickly. It's a quaint restaurant on Main Street which we made reservations for ahead of time. When we arrived the hostess wanted to sit us at a huge round table that could fit 6. We told her we were interested in that family table it was right next to the entrance and that the door opens & closes and it 100 degrees outside. She wasn't very accommodating about trying to sit us at 5:30pm when they had at least 4-5 other available table for 4 but she eventually did. Waiter was great. We order cocktails & wine which were perfect. Food was delicious. We had a Caesar salad with a little crabmeat & avocado which was a little to dry but it had great flavor. The Salmon dinner was a hit & prepared different than all the rest. I highly recommend my flounder franchise with asparagus & delicious mashed potatoes. The fettuccine with clams & lobster was also delicious. We unfortunately couldn't stay for dessert because it was definitely to hot for us especially when we told them but it's okay.
