Catfish was great and a very good portion for the price. Crunchy breading and moist fish. We also liked the alligator bites. The hush puppies were just OK. Pre-made and a little mushy and flavorless inside, and not too crispy. Complimentary pinto beans were utterly devoid of flavor, but, after thorough seasoning with salt, pepper and pepper sauce at the table, they were respectable. Coleslaw was just OK, and okra was good for typical premade frozen. Server was nice but was the only one working so it took a little while to get things. What? I can't believe my taste buds. I ordered the Catfish & Shrimp dinner and a side salad bar. I hurt myself. This catfish and shrimp are some of the best in the country. If you live local, you know what I'm talking about. If you are passing through...STOP HERE! Served with creamy cole slaw and choice of fries or okra, this is an all-you-can-eat buffet, but a single platter of wonderful. The catfish and shrimp did not have any fancy seasoning, it was plain good. It was as close to GOOD home cookin' as you could possibly get. Only my stepmom can make comparable fried catfish, she uses seasoning. But this place cooks catfish and shrimp to crispy, moist flavorful perfection. We eat catfish freshly caught from the river, but this is the best! I took half my food home. Tartar sauce, cocktail sauce and lemons are provided, but they are truly condiments, not cover ups for flavor. It was so good, I ate until I hurt myself. I haven't even mentioned the simply fresh salad bar. Love their blue cheese dressing! Dont let the outside, keep you from going inside. It has a great atmosphere lots of space, clean and so friendly. Okay I need to do an update from my first one. Folks being inconsistent is their consistency. You can walk in there at ANY time and they may have pinto beans or you will hear," They are about to put more beans out." Out of the multiple times that I have heard this, no beans were put out. I have gone in their multiple times for lunch since my first review. Again, you will see one hispanic waitress, who is a great lady, all by herself running from one end of the restaurant to the other trying to please everyone. The last time I went in there for lunch recently I looked down at my watch when I sat down. Of course no beans. And of course the same nice lady running herself ragged. From the time she took my order until I walked out it was 45 minutes later. I sat there with a water waiting on a lunch catfish. When my watch hit 45 minutes I stood up and walked out. VERY inconsistent. One day it will be 15 minutes the next day an hour later. If you have no schedule and can just sit around and wait this place is definitely for you. The food is great when you get it, I emphasize WHEN you get it. And if your hankering for the free pinto beans you better be ready to go without. Came for dinner, wasn't quite sure if it was open from the street because of the lack of vehicles in the lot, but sure enough it was! It's a choose-your-seat deal, and pretty spacious as so. Plenty of booths, tables, a bar, and a section that I'm sure can accommodate groups. We had their salsa, queso and chips which were pretty good. At one point the waitress came by and smelled like alcohol, but maybe that was what was keeping her so cheery? The portions were large, i took about half of my dinner home. Finally, a solid catfish place again in WF! I no longer live in Texas, so I never order catfish where I live up north -- its rubbery when thawed from frozen and never tastes fresh. Consequently, when I come home visiting, I crave traditional fried catfish. Nothing compares to how I remember my grandmother fixing the freshly caught little stringers, then deep fried in a home-made butane fueled old 55-gallon drum, but there's some characteristics that recall that comforting sense of home and grandmother's cooking. That's what I found at Catfish Grill: thin fillets battered in a cornmeal and cooked perfectly crisp; thoroughly cooked but not over done--just right. A recent update to the menu is reason enough to come in, but with the Atmosphere (games on multiple televisions) and the wait staff that are amazing, this is my go to place on the weekends.
