This was our first stop on this years tenderloin trail! Boy are we glad we did the pork tenderloin was very flavorful not sure if it's a salt or what exactly gives it such great flavor but wow. It was thick for the sheer size of it and still very tender and juicy. I had the coleslaw which was also solid and my buddy got the fries with his also very good. We did get mayo for our tenderloins. He also ordered the fried shrimp appetizer which came with a lot of shrimp and he said was very good. The tenderloin for the price is ridiculous. Could easily split it for two people. This was my first time at Catfish lodge. I have to say I'm super disappointed that I've lived in Bellevue for over 6 years and I've never been here! I got the combination platter. It was fried chicken, catfish, shrimp, and walleye. Plus two sides. Everything was so good! I paid $23 for the meal which is very fair. Honestly it was the best fried fish I've ever had! Then the fried chicken was super crispy and juicy. All of the meat was seasoned to perfection. The shrimp was the only item that wasn't great. The service was amazing! I came here yesterday with my husband, my experience was decent. The staff were alright. I had ordered their combination which came with Catfish, Chicken, Alaskan walleye & SHRIMP. Emphasis on the shrimp. The Catfish was delicious, loved the breading, very fresh & juicy fish. The chicken was dry but had a great flavor which made up for it & the Walleye was also delicious, juicy & I loved it.. the shrimp? Disappointed & dissatisfied. As you can see from the photo below they're small popcorn shrimps which is fine, but it's SeaPak. Aka the frozen premade brand you can get from Walmart & quite literally make at home for less than half the price. Yes I know we're in the middle of the us & shrimp is harder to obtain without freezing, it's just the fact that they use SeaPak instead of buying shrimp, using their flour/breading they ALREADY use in other seafood dishes & just frying up their own shrimp original to them. There's nothing credible or unique about using prepackaged & prebattered store bought shrimp, it doesn't differentiate from other places. It's one thing to buy shrimp from the store, but to not even make your own batter & to just fry up some Seapak & claim it as your own? Hell no. I go to a restaurant to get something I can't necessarily access & easily make at home. Something original to the establishment. Paying for overpriced SeaPak was not enjoyable & bothered me if anything. & the price they also charge for it? Horrendous. You could get 2 packs for the price of 8oz basket they charge. In the future I will not be ordering shrimp from here, beyond disappointed from that point. I even asked one of the waitresses what shrimp they used & she blatantly says "Seapak, one of the few things not made in house." I recommend getting their other seafood options that THEY actually MAKE themselves as they are delicious. Same with their sides, also fantastic. Overall rate a 3/5. read more

I called a to go order in today after looking up this restaurant on Yelp, and my dad and I decided fish sounded good today. I called them to get a few facts, and called back with my order based on what they told me and the menus I found on line. I was specific on what I ordered especially for my 85 year old father. The restaurant gets tricky by claiming the catfish comes with (I heard them say two) three "strips" of catfish, which I took as a fillet cut into smaller strips. Their strips are whole fillets of catfish and 3 of them is a fish and half worth, and when I ordered it I said I wanted the smallest one for Dad and they said that was the small one. I ordered the larger Walleye and it was big, but the problem with both meals is that they were soggy and greasy. I'm pretty sure they had cooked the fish & fries for the buffet they had going and they had sat under the heat lamps for a while. I had shown up about 10 minutes after I called and I checked the meals 7 minutes after I left with my food, and they were barely warm. I paid $46 for a quick lunch, and usually for Dad and I it's usually around $30. I called and complained to the lady who took my order and she argued with me on the sizes of the meal she quoted, and told me the menu and prices on their Yelp site was someone else's. She told me I could talk to the owner the next day and didn't offer to make anything better including the old food she served me. I spent close to 30 years in restaurants including a place that sold all you can eat Fish & chips and Oyster & chips so I know when the fish has been cooked and stored correctly. Bottom line is that they're deceptive about their portions, prices, and quality and argumentative in their customer service. Unless they treat their regulars better I'm not sure why they're still open. read more

My husband enjoyed the prime rib, said the meat was good but not the best choice of bread. It was on a piece of French bread. He prefers his on a nice toasted sourdough. They say first impressions are important but I try to give things a second, sometimes a third, or even a fourth chance. But the Catfish Lake Restaurant & Lounge was a huge disappointment and I will not return unless it receives some renovation. The musky smell of age and old grease greeted us when we stepped into Catfish Lake Restaurant. As if that wasn't a warm enough welcome, we were told the main area was too busy and to try the bar. That's not a big deal, we were prepared to wait if needed. The layout of the place is a bit confusing and it's not obvious where the bar is, so thankfully the girl at the front door led us. The customer service pretty much stopped there. She was the nicest of all the employees we came across (except one of the busboys). The bar was also busy so we decided to grab some drinks and wait on the patio outback. It would be worth the wait, I told my friends. The reviews said it's the best fish place around! While we got our drinks, I chatted with some regulars who also talked up the food so I tried to be optimistic but the entire time I felt like we got some very unwelcome looks from the wait staff who kept saying move while they buzzed around the room. Our wait wasn't terribly long, 10 maybe 15 minutes, when a server came to get us. While we gathered up our purses and drinks, she was already gone. So we poked our head into the restaurant to try to find her, only to realize she had headed to the bar and was waiting for us (and not happy about it). We were seated at a long, double table (there were 7 of us) that sloped down because the floor was so uneven. Kind of like a slide, but not that severe. There was also a pole in the middle so I couldn't really see my friends at the end, but I'm not going to fuss about that. What I am going to fuss about is that my seat was right by the large screen TV in the bar area and the cords were at my feet. I was actually so close to the screen that I could feel the heat and I was partially covering the corner of it so I felt like people were staring at me the whole time. It was so comfortable. After we ordered, this gave us ample time to observe our surroundings. Some of the comments from our group included: "They have a website but can't dust?" "I'm not so sure they passed all their food safety laws." "I think they are going for a "Midwest rural shabby" look and they hit it on the head." "Should we even be drinking from the soda machines? They've got to be full of mold." The decor is like a collection of artifacts, kind of like an Applebee's, but I'm certain they've never been cleaned. The patrons are a mix of retirees and farm families, dress is extremely casual. It's obviously a popular place because it was filled to the gills with people (no pun intended) but I couldn't help imagine how much better the experience could be with some clean up and kinder service. There are literally less than a handful food options this close to where we were staying (on Hanson lakes) and it could really be a great opportunity to shine. Anyway... By this time I had nearly given up on the place but thought ok, the food is gonna be worth it! They started out the meal with bread cooked in little terra cotta pots and that instantly got them some unique points. Until I ate it. Nope, big disappointment. The bread was flavorless. And I didn't just get a bad pot, trust me, I tried the other one on the other end of the table just to be sure. I even asked my friends and they all agreed...bland. Cute idea, needs some spice. The food arrived and there were mixed feelings. Some of it was good, some of it was just ok, but I don't think any of it was wonderful. Some positives: the mashed potatoes were real (versus instant), the fries were yummy, the chicken was moist, crab was pricey but excellent and my friend loved that it came with a crab fork. The side salads were a fail, drink refills non-existent, and the other food was either bland or average, nothing to write about. As we ate right by the busboys area and the restrooms, we also noticed that the coffee pots were getting washed out in the bathroom sink. Not sanitary. I should have known that a place whose famous fish is carp (a dirty, low quality fish) would be dirty and low quality, but I wanted to give it a chance. I've been to fish shacks before in the south and they were wonderful experiences. All I have left to say is that the Yelp reviews let me down on this one. I was excited, I convinced my friends to try something new, we were proud to support local, but this place is a disgrace. I am not a super picky person, I wasn't expecting a five star kind of a place, but I was expecting cleanliness, good food, and good service. In the end, I couldn't wait to leave. I hope they clean up their act but the owner likely doesn't see a problem. The place is a busy, it's got it's regulars, it's got little competition but if Gordon Ramsay came here I guarantee his first sentence would include the word F%$*. read more

My wife and I have visited here a number of times. We have never had a bad visit. We love the food and the selection. Tonight we were able to sit immediately. We were brought menus and asked for drink orders right away. Our food came quickly and was correct, hot, and fresh. Portions are always on the large size. This was the first time ordering their homemade Tenderloin sandwich. It was huge and tasted great. We will return for that again. I ordered a full order of Walley, which is my favorite meal. Passing through and going home from a week of meetings in the Black Hills. I was hungry for steak and hubby found this place. If it were not for the service, the star would be a one. I ordered the prime rib because it wasn't as big as the ribeye. Big mistake!! Don't let the picture deceive you. The in-person prime rib looks nothing like the picture and I think it may have been an old cow too because that was the toughest meat I've ever had. So, if you go to Catfish lake at the lodge in Bellevue the prices that are in menu book are not the prices they charge, like the Ribeye sandwich was supposed to be $16.95, they charged $17.63, the catfish al la carte was supposed to be $16.95 and it also was $17.63. They won't honor the prices in the menu! Bullcrap, they are suppose to honor the price they have in menu. I personally will never return. The ribeye tasted like kerosene and was burnt. They also up charged the mushroom bites from $8.95 to $9.31 and the dipping sauce ranch dressing was $1.04! The green beans they serve were too spicy to eat. Bull. And when I asked them to change the TV at my table they said no tony is the only one who can change channels, talk about rudeness to the patrons. Five stars? Yup! Catfish lake is awesome. It pretends to be nothing it is not. My wife and I, both from Texas, absolutely loved everything about it. For my appetizer, I got a half order of gizzards. Expecting to get a small to medium size boat of chicken, we were blown away when an entire platter of perfectly fried chicken gizzards arrived. Add a side of delicious cream gravy and voilà, perfection! My wife ordered the dark meat fried chicken. You'd be hard-pressed to find chicken this good anywhere in the country, including what your mama used to cook! I had fish and it was equally delicious. The food alone merits a great rating, but the service was equally fantastic. Our server was attentive, patient with our indecisiveness, and as friendly as one could be.
