Remembrance of a small town old fashioned diner. We went for breakfast and it was very good. The scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly. The bacon was too undercooked for me despite asking for it crisp but otherwise all was good. The best was the staff. I normally don't like going to restaurants and making orders and then take them home because most of the time they're are half a size portions and not as good as if you're in a restaurant itself. I don't normally eat out, but I got the chicken fried steak and eggs and I had things to do before I could even eat, and the food is amazing. Service was amazing waiting for it. The food is amazing! If you're going to take me to a friendly down home restaurant for American fare, this place right here is the place to go. You can't tell by the size of this meal but it is probably the size of a football end to end. It was delicious and I actually had to take it home for leftovers. Love local owned and operated business, with staff that are excellent- Linda, and others made us feel at home. Met our daughter and son-in-law for lunch, meals were delicious with TLC, you can't go wrong or go hungry at Mom's Cafe. 4th of July may not be the best day to come here for brunch. The place seemed a bit short staffed, but what else is new. I ordered the cinnamon roll French toast which was very rich with two slices cut from a cinnamon roll drizzled with caramel sauce, sliced banana, two slices of bacon, and sprinkles of pecans. Bookguy wolfed down the bacon, very crispy. This is kind of a desert for breakfast and I enjoyed it. Bookguy had the chicken fried steak, two over easy eggs, and hash browns all covered with white gravy. He thought it was great except his toast which was too dry for him. He asked for extra jelly, but it never came. Considering how busy they were that's not surprising. We will come back again. read more

A small diner that takes you back! When you walk inside, it has an old school U counter for dining and off to the lefthand side has a dining room. If you are looking for classic, comfort diner food, you found the spot! I got the BLT Club with fries. I was unsure how to start to eat it since it was a triple decker! Very tasty! My husband got the patty melt with fries and absolutely loved it. The homemade ranch is made with sour cream which gives it a good but different taste! Our meal was under $30! So I happened to run across this place while just roaming in the area on a halfway decent February day. Decided to stop in based off prior reviews and so glad I did! Husband kept talking about Moms so we came today. Shared a Philly cheesesteak breakfast casserole & sweet potato fries. Food was absolutely fantastic, exactly what I'd think of for this small town diner. I wish I was hungrier as I'd get pie because it looks amazing! But the portions were very generous and we couldn't stop picking. He drank coffee, said it tastes like normal diner coffee & I had the hot chocolate. Pan cakes and eggs times 4 and one order of Chicken fried steak and eggs. 68.00 and I still left a 12.00 tip. It's a fairly okay place to dine. I do enjoy the vintage diner atmosphere when you first come in. The ladies who work here always seem to be nice towards the customers including myself. A lot of times this placed is cramped with elderly people who for some reason tend to frequently stare at you with disapproving looks while you're eating, and the fact that the tables are close together doesn't help the awkwardness of the atmosphere. It's definitely not the speediest service that we've ever had, but we get our menus pretty quickly. Drinks come to the table in 10-20 minutes - it should be quicker than that in my opinion. On average, waiting time for food is around 30-45 minutes so that's not necessarily enjoyable either. You have to try & occupy yourself with something to do or talk about while you wait at the table for a while. When you do get your food though, it is fairly good. I enjoy their ham & eggs as well as their hash browns & toast that comes with little boxes of jelly to add to your toast. The eggs are moist & tasty as well as the ham, plus the hash browns and the toast is cooked very well. I've also had their cheeseburger a couple of times. It's fairly okay - better on certain days, but on other days the buns (and overall burger) can be quite soggy and will fall apart a little bit in your hand while you try to hold it & eat it. Sometimes the burger patties aren't fully cooked resulting in slight tints of pink which is not necessarily enjoyable for those who prefer their meat well-done. Their coconut cream pie is very good. No issues with that at all, except the fact that it's out of stock most of the time. There are some things that this restaurant can work on, but overall if you have strong patience & tolerance for awkward glances that frequently come from other customers, this is an alright place to come to. read more

My sister and I were in town for the first time checking out the annual Harvest Festival. Since most businesses wouldn't allow non customers to use the restrooms (we needed to change my nieces diaper and there is no changing table in the public outdoor restroom), we decided to find a place to get a bite to eat. We're so glad we chose Mom's Cafe! We come from a small, rural Missouri town and the homemade, homegrown, prepared from the heart dishes really hit the spot. I had the chicken fried steak, mashed taters (white gravy) and green beans. My sister ordered the meatloaf, which also had mashed potatoes (brown gravy) and green beans. Country cooking at it's finest. Portions were plentiful so we split our entrees in half and swapped so we could enjoy more of what Mom's has to offer. Now, I am a bit of a breading snob. Most of the time I scrape at least some if not all of it off, even on KFC. I like it lightly seasoned but crispy not soggy...anyway, long description short, mom's breading was AWESOME! I would go back simply to try another breaded item. The meatloaf was also very tasty and I'm very happy they know the importance of using white gravy for some things and brown for the other. Another plus the potatoes are REAL. I absolutely HATE fake potatoes. Give me some chunks, give me some skin, give me real or I won't eat them! The rolls I could live without. They are obviously store bought but not a deal breaker at all. Hot homemade rolls would probably make for an even better experience but again, I really enjoyed our meals. One other thing to note, if you're a city dweller and never had country/well water, I'd skip the water and get a soda or something. My sister and I were raised on the stuff, but it's a bit of an acquired taste. The service was also great. Our waitress, as well as others, were very attentive. Mom even caught me snapping pictures of her food and got a good laugh out of it. Decor is very small town country with lots of vintage pictures and signs and knicknacks around. My sister and I both agreed we felt very at home at Mom's Cafe and if you're craving the comforts of a small town, homemade, warm and inviting experience, you'll find it at Mom's! read more

We have talked about a Plattsmouth road trip and with Harvest Fest going on, the timing was right. A wonderful fallish morning made our stop at Mom's even better. First, this is a classic diner with the traditional wall decor, barstools at the counter and everyone knows their neighbor feel. Services was fast and friendly and the coffee, well, it was diner coffee. We were torn on the chicken fried steak and the cinnamon roll french toast; so, we ordered both. The steak was a real (not frozen) cutlet covered in a great thick batter making it thick and delicious. I actually enjoyed the french toast even more though - a unique blend of classic cinnamon roll and modern french toast. What a cute little cafe! We had breakfast here twice in a row during our little weekend in Plattsmouth. The waitresses are super friendly! When we saw our first waitress again on our second visit she made a big deal about us coming back. It was sweet, and made me miss living in a small town! As for the food, I had the build-your-own omelet which is a deal at under $6 for four toppings. My husband got the Egg BLT which was so good, we both ended up getting the same thing the next morning. The coffee was pretty good, and they were nice not to get annoyed at the absurd amount of cream and sugar I used. One eventually brought me one of the big sugar containers you can pour instead of the tiny packets (score!). The only criticism I have is that our sandwiches took a VERY long time to come out since the place got so busy, but the waitress apologized a lot and we didn't mind since we were enjoying our coffee and conversation. Stopped here on a road trip. Very much a comfort food place with generous portions. Who doesn't like comfort food?? I had the trio breakfast. 2 scrambled eggs, hashbrowns and 1/2 serving of biscuits and gravy. The eggs were good but the hashbrowns and biscuit and gravy were the stars! Hashbrowns were cooked to perfection and had very good flavor. The biscuit was light and flavorful. The gravy was kick ass! Lots of delicious sausage, and they didn't skimp. Couldn't eat it all, but I wanted to! Husband had the German skillet. He said it was delicious! The sauce was very tasty. We met Mom on our way out and had a delightful conversation. This was a regular breakfast stop until we discovered The Chocolate Moose down the street. But as Chocolate Moose only serves breakfast on Saturdays, we still show up at Mom's on other days. Mom's is tasty diner food. It isn't fancy. You'll end up sitting between a couple of farmers and some nice elderly ladies enjoying a meal out, with a family of four behind you. The wait staff is friendly; service can be slow at times. The coffee isn't great but it is hot and there's plenty of it. We've eaten there many times, but only for breakfast. I usually get the french toast with eggs (perfect over-easy) and sausage (their sausage is delicious--this is not some nasty Jimmy Dean gristle patty; next time I'll have to ask if it is house made). Bruce always always gets the chicken-fried steak. Being the chicken-fried steak connoisseur he rightfully claims to be, please note that when he put's Mom's chicken-fried steak in his Top Five, this is deserved praise, indeed. Toast was almost buttered, kind of looked like they had slapped at it with a paintbrush dipped in butter. Hash browns were good.
