I drove nearly an hour from Katy and paid $40 to attend a class with Wayne. The class started late, and approximately 15 minutes into it, Wayne STOPPED THE ENTIRE CLASS to chastise me in front of everyone because I was modifying some of the movements to protect my back and listening to my own body. I was not disrupting the class. I was not interfering with anyone else's practice. I was practicing variations of the movements being taught. Instead of simply allowing me to modify, offering an alternative, or speaking to me privately, Wayne became visibly angry, removed my personal belongings from the room, and told me to leave in front of the entire class. I was stunned. Yoga is not Simon Says. A teacher is there to guide a practice, not demand that every body in the room move identically regardless of what feels safe or appropriate for that individual. "Listen to your body" and "eyes on your own mat" are principles I have encountered throughout decades of practicing and teaching yoga. I have never experienced an instructor react with this level of hostility because a student chose to modify. What makes the situation even more troubling is that Wayne is apparently the owner, so when I attempted to contact the studio afterward to address what happened, the studio number routed directly back to him. I drove an hour. I paid $40. The class started late. And approximately 15 minutes into the class, I was publicly chastised, had my belongings removed from the room, and was told to leave. In 20 years of yoga, I have never been treated this way in a studio.

Instructor, Olga, was great and we focused on deep stretches that left me feeling renewed, which was especially helpful as I did HIIT exercises five days this week. There were a few things that I did not like which is why I'm skeptical of returning. First, there was absolutely no music. Every other yoga studio I've been to has, at minimum, played some sort of meditation or relaxing music. I'm someone who needs some kind of noise at all time, so I did not like the silent atmosphere. Additionally, the windows were kept open for the majority of the class, so the outside noise was coming through and was very distracting at times. The studio itself was very nice and well kept, but I noticed there weren't any mirrors in the room where the yoga class was held. I, personally, like to see myself in a mirror to ensure that I'm doing the poses correctly, so I found the lack of mirrors to be annoying. Otherwise, it was a great experience! The receptionist in the front was very kind and helpful. While I probably won't do another yoga class here, I am interested in trying out their Pilates classes!

During the day, the natural light is a big plus. The teachers I have taken class with are very experienced, attentive and teach from their hearts. While I enjoy a range of practices and styles teachers, this is by far one of my favorite places for going deeper in my personal practice. I can rely on this studio to offer rich knowledge about the body and spaciousness that can only be created with a slow and mindful approach. I am deeply grateful to have found this gem of a studio. Selise has helped bring new life to my practice. I always leave her classes with joy and lightness --- that yoga bliss that is abundant in beginning a yoga practice and seems to be more rare as time goes on (like 10 years in). The Level 2 classes are deep and strong, though I rarely break a sweat. I highly recommend checking out this space. Even if only to get a feel for what else is going on in yoga. It always felt like a chore - to wake up extra early and basically pay someone to torture you and then spend the next couple of days so sore you didn't want to do much. (Ok, I'm exaggerating on the torture but you get the gist). Along comes Crystal and Pilates. I had decided that I needed to find some way to work out since I'm at a desk all day. I came across a groupon for Pilates reformer and I decided to take a chance, it looked easy enough - why not? Looks easy, but that was a full body workout that had me drenched in sweat 20 minutes in! Who would have thought? I worked arms, legs, core and everything in between and the next day....I wasn't so sore that I couldn't move. Hallelujah! It was right then that I realized this was for me! An all over workout that didn't leave me sore and was easy on my back. That was over a year ago, Crystal is still amazing. I have slowly added mat Pilates, Hatha yoga (Artemis is the best! She helps stretch you out and relax after a hard Pilates workout), Barre Pilates and small group training. Basically almost every class that is offered I have tried. One of the best things is that the classes are small and everyone is at different levels but you don't feel intimidated. Everyone is encouraging, the veterans offering help to the newbies, no one takes themselves too seriously and the classes are just plain fun to attend. There's so much more that I could say about Synergy, Crystal and Artemis but I doubt I have much more room left to write. Basically - affordable, fun, workouts with some great people. I'm definitely a lifer, as Crystal has helped me become a healthier person one class at a time.
