    White Queso Dip!
    Keyv E.

Great food and friendly staff! They offer a wide variety of Central American and traditional Mexican dishes. If you're craving Baleadas you must come here. Their home-made tortillas are incredible. These guys know what they're doing! I've always wanted to try white queso dip and finally found it here. It was on point. This might be the only place that serves it in California!

Yuca with "chicharron" and tasteless cabbage

I wished I could give this place 0 or negative stars. If you want authentic Honduran food, this is NOT the place you wan to go to. This place was more of a bar with a people drinking including the staff. I ordered mixed pupusas, the cheese tasted rancid and the "curtido" or slaw was just chopped cabbage....and nothing else, plain tasteless cabbage. I got the yuca con chicharron, these people don't know what actual chicharron is, I got served something that looks like pork rinds from a bag you can purchase at the 7-11 next door to this place. I also got the steak with plantains and the meat looked old and it tasted old like something that died in the freezer 6 months ago. I had to throw everything away for fear of getting food poisoning.

This is the second Honduran food restaurant that I am aware of in the San Jose area. Great food, great prices and fast service.

I tried the popular baleada, which is a home-made flour tortilla filled with a layer of mashed red beans, queso fresco, eggs and with or without meat (I got it with carne asada). The flour tortilla was just as other described - soft, buttery smooth, almost melt in your mouth goodness. The carne asada was dry and hard so I could've gone without. I bet a braised beef like barbacoa would've been perfect for this item. It also came with salsa and I selected mild which gave it a nice bright flavor. I also ordered a chicken tamale (they also offer pork) and I was surprised to find a whole chicken wing (no skin) stuffed into the tamale! I broke into it using a fork and hit something hard which turned out to be the bones. But honestly, this was one of the best tamales I've tried in a long time. Flavorful, moist, and a nice sized portion. It came wrapped in what I think was banana leaf. The service was fast on a Wednesday night and there were a handful of friendly patrons seated nearby. You could tell that they were regulars. The space was intimate with around 10-15 tables seating about 4 people each. Maya's Cafe menu has a wide assortment of dishes to choose from: serving breakfast dishes like chilaquiles, lunch items such as burritos, or soups and full on dinner plates with rice, beans, and choice of protein. There's even more selection and the whole menu is in Spanish so I'll be sure to use Google Translate next time!

IMHO The Pupuseria…read moreDelmy food truck sets up shop in my east foothills' neighborhood, on Story Road between Fleming and Machado, on Sundays. The food truck is parked in a gravel driveway/parking "lot". Look for the tall billowing sign boasting "Pupusas" and three flags along the fence. My curiosity finally got the best of me when I saw a stand-up sandwich sign on the street saying, "Open Now". We drove in and parked behind the food truck although you can park on the street. We were handed a menu and were told "Solo pupusas". I suppose they offer other items in other locations, but I was fine just trying a pupusa, having never enjoyed one before. We ordered two carne asada w/cheese pupusas, $4 each. I paid with cash. The young lady had to dig into her purse for change. LOL I tipped the change into the tip jar. They have some tables and chairs under a canopy to wait or dine. There is also a portable sink to wash your hands and a porta potty nearby. It took maybe 10 minutes to get our order, as these are made-to-order. Our to-go order was really hot and came with a bag of ice-cold tomato salsa and a bag of slaw, (which I later learned is curtido.) Since this was the first time trying a pupusa before, we had no idea how to eat it and what to do with the curtido and salsa. Eventually we figured it out but no matter how we ate them, these pupusas were delicious!!! Will we go back! Absolutely!!!

My family liked them, but they said they weren't the best. For the price, they were okay. A little smaller than what we're used to. The only bad thing I could say is they didn't like the cheese. They said it wasn't the same kind of cheese, and the meat wasn't very seasoned. Other than that, they're pretty decent. I probably won't go back again, but they're not bad. Just, they're not just what we're used to. A little bit more flavor, a little cheesier. Not as much filling as we're used to. Being from El Salvador, I just have a certain expectation of food specially Pupusas.
