Hello, I just wanted to leave a review for this restaurant my girlfriend brought me to. We were planning to go to our usual spot, but we decided to try something new, and I'm very glad we did. First, the atmosphere is beautiful and very colorful. Nowadays, you don't really see many restaurants with that kind of vibrant feel, so it was really nice--bright and welcoming. The staff were also very kind and respectful. They answered all my questions clearly and made us feel comfortable. I ordered the enchiladas and tried both the green and red, but I personally preferred the green ones--they were absolutely amazing. My girlfriend got the chilaquiles with carne asada, and I tried some of hers as well. Everything was delicious. I will definitely be coming back. Also, I highly recommend the agua fresca de pepino con limón--it was so refreshing. read more

We finally tried this place after years of it being on my Yelp list. Parking is very limited so we walked the half a mile or so from home on a Saturday for lunch. We were a party of 5 and waited about 10-12 minutes for a table. The service was a little all over the place. We kept getting different staff and they seem to not communicate with each other. It also sort of seemed like they didn't get along. It could have been an off day as they were very busy, but it always looks busy so I expected more coordination and communication. The menu is large and has breakfasts and lunches like tortas, enchiladas, quesabirrias, etc. They only have menudo on the weekends. I ordered a grilled gordita with papas con chorizo and a michelada. I was surprised that the gordita wasn't prepared with the usual toppings like lettuce and salsa. They didn't even bring the salsa and I was so hungry I just ate it as is. My husband ordered the enchiladas de mole (enmoladas) and he said they were delicious. I tasted the mole and it was really sweet and heavy on The cinnamon. The michelada was a little basic, nothing special. I personally have had better, it tasted like they just added a bunch of tajin to it. The music was a little loud and it was really warm in there, almost stuffy. I wish they would have kept the door open so it could air out since it was chilly outside. I do plan to return and try other dishes to give it a second chance, but unfortunately, it just wasn't as great as I hoped. read more

Thought the wait time was going to be long cause of the amount of people eating but Took less than 3 mins to get seated, fast service , great personal , super clean and yup the Food was delicious. Ordered the torta ahogada, it brought me memories from Guadalajara. Bread's texture was perfect , carnitas were tasty and the Sauce gave it that final kick specially the spicy one.oh don't forget the pickled purple onions. If you go make sure get the cafe de olla. Great service to start right off the bat, waiters Itzel came to me right away and started giving me service. Asked Itzel about her favorite chilaquiles plate and she said the red salsa one because it was spicy, which it really wasn't but she brought extra hot sauce to add to it which was great. Got a cafe de olla which is always a plus at a Mexican restaurant, I did come on a Monday morning so I was able to sit right away and ambiance is amazing. read more

This place is about the community. East side San Jose is full of culture. This place allowed people to sell food from their outside cart. It is beautiful to see restaurants not afraid of outside business taking from them. This restaurant was busy when we went. I'm not sure if it's because we went on a Sunday but a lot was going on. You seat yourself and someone will take your order. I got the passion fruit drink which was recommended. It was refreshing. The Mexican coffee was sweet, in my opinion. My husband got the huevos ranchero and he devoured it. I got the enchiladas suiza. It was yummy. I like the green sauce. We shared a quesabirria as well. This place was a recommendation, was in the mood for authentic mexican food. Did not fail, they have a variety of selections. I had a carnitas and barbacoa sores with the works. I recommend you try both salsas, can't go wrong. If you crave some coffee, definitely try their cafe de olla or something refreshing try one of their aguas frescas. Took me back to Guadalajara. The cafe de olla is also perfect. The aguas frescas were big portions and the flavor was also on point. I had a torta ahogada and an order of tacos ahogados. I accompanied my food with a passion fruit agua fresca. I loved the decor and the matching seating and dinner wear. They had live music karaoke style when we visited and the staff were very friendly and attractive. SEÑORA como deben saber los clientes en donde pararse si no tienen ningún señalero diciendo donde se debería para la gente (entrance, wait here.....nothing) es mas donde la sería quería que nos paráramos dice exit soooooo si dice exit en un letrero con letras verdes so por que nos esperaríamos en la salida ????? Wow este lugar la verdad nos dejó sin palabras! La comida está súper deliciosa! Todo estaba fresco y el sabor era como si estabas comiendo en la casa de Tía Rita! It was ok. Had to try after Tik Tok. We had chilaquilles plate and huevos rancheros. Green sauce was decent red sauce spicy. Cafe de la holla was very tasty but the empanadas were disappointing. We couldn't tell which was what flavor they looked the same. Good service nice ambiance. read more

Went there thinking I was going to get some good Mexican food after seeing the reviews. The place is outdated. Let me start off by saying the service is awful. They do not welcome you in and they weren't tay busy. We didn't get chips until we asked for some. Food arrived the torta hogada was a thin dry bread with very little beans and meat bland tasting not what we were expecting. My tacos dorados had no cheese or sour cream and berly any cabbage. The sauce was in a small container. They threw a bunch of carnitas on top. The papas in the tacos were burnt around the outer part. The waiter Paola only came once to our table we Had to ask for the reciept. I also order food to go my my kids. They forgot the 2 coffees, and the plain taco that was $5. I was looking for a place with good menudo this morning and saw how delicious the food looked so we decide to stop by and we were amazed! Every bite so full of flavor from the gorditas de nopales to the frijoles and especially the menudo with homemade tortillas! Definitely a gem! Authentic Mexican food from Jalisco. When you walk into the restaurant, you feel like you are in Mexico. I had to try their tacos de canasta (steamed tacos) because you can't find that in any Mexican restaurant here in the Bay. They come in chorizo or potato. I tried both. It comes with a green avocado-like sauce and curtido. Very soft and tasty! I prefer the chorizo over the potato but both were very flavorful. The carnitas tostada was also a hit. I love all the lettuce and cheese and the tortilla was freshly fried. The chicken enchiladas was very different than what I'm used to but I loved it. Didn't have much sauce and it came with fried potatoes, lettuce and cheese. Very minimal sauce but flavors were great. Overall, I loved this place and I can't wait to come back to try other dishes! Parking is limited, so you may have to park on the street or in the neighborhood streets and walk. read more

The food used to be good now you can taste that it's not fresh. The Gordita I ordered of chicharron didn't even come filled half way with the filling . I got my cafe de olla in a cracked cup around the rim where I would drink. The waitress saw the cup and just smiled. My friend got the chilaquiles verdes (delicious) and I got the super carne asada burrito (delicious) a little on the small side for a super burrito. Coffee de la olla taste just like Mexico coffee Yum, but service was terrible never got checked on waiting for water or a refill on coffee but nothing great food great atmosphere. read more

Some people leave bad reviews because of parking, dry food, inconvenience etc...we all must understand that your first experience MAY not be the best. It's always good to give a second chance. With that said, yes the tortas ahogadas are on the dry side but, in my opinion, they have so many other good options. Please revisit and try other menu items. I will list the ones that are so so good. NOTE: names may be different from my review. 1.Quesabirrias 2. Gorditas de chicharrón 3. Birria plate 4. Tacos de canasta 5. Chilaquiles 6. Cafe de olla 7. Licuados Just to name a few the service can be questionable but remember giving them a second chance is worth it. If you meet the owner, Rita, she is nice to talk to. I got to know her and know where they are from etc... No I am not related to them whatsoever lol I just simply love the place. Don't bash them for parking because at the end of the day, that location is what works for them. Stopped in here for lunch with some friends that have come to this place often. They would tell me that the Taco dorados with barbacoa and dipping sauce was an experience. I've seen this type of taco style online before, but never tried it. Definitely an experience. The service was great, definitely seems to be a family owned business.
