The drinks were on point. The ambiance was great. Service was good. We'll definitely be back. Note: since there are some one star reviews that don't seem fair at all.... if you can read directions, they clearly give you a heads up with signage when you walk in, and on the menu itself, that there is a 2 hour limit. They seem to enforce it, so if you have a problem, maybe just don't come and don't complain. Those are their rules, just deal with it. Also - this is a cocktail bar - Cocktails everywhere nowadays are not really cheap. And again - this is a cocktail bar - there is limited food because it's a cocktail bar. The food they do have though is good... Come in with the right expectations, and you'll love those place.

We were looking for a cute bar with appetizers to spend a little time on a Saturday night and stopped in here. It's a cute small bar with a Dia de los Muertos theme. They had a decent selection of drinks and a small menu of food. We had the arrachera nachos which were so incredible-the best arrachera I've had in a while and homemade chips. We also had the quesadillas. The homemade salsa that came with the quesadillas was out of this world amazing. For drinks we tried the strawberry margarita, the la Calaca cocktail, and the la Diabla cocktail. The strawberry margarita was good and you could taste the fresh strawberries throughout. The La Calaca was unique with notes of cucumber and mint and was incredibly refreshing. La Diabla was a simple cocktail but was good. The service was great and overall we had a wonderful experience. We will definitely be coming back for nachos and drinks in the near future!

Wait to Order: (5 of 5) -Check In... We were immediately seated upon entering the bar. -First Table Contact... We had a short wait for our server after we were seated. When the waitress stopped by she dropped off menus after greeting us. Restaurant Cleanliness: (5 of 5) -Outside... Clean -Inside... Clean -Table... Clean -Restroom... Did not visit the restroom. Atmosphere: (5 of 5) -Inside... There was some music playing and a TV with a baseball game on. The restaurant had black lights that allowed a darker vibe with the walls and pictures throwing off psychedelic lighting. Table: (4 of 5) -Service... It was ok. Waiter/Waitress came over a few times. Both were knowledgeable on the drinks they serviced and were very nice but definitely weren't focused on our table. Food: (5 of 5) -My Order... -- Chips & Salsa, Steak Quesadilla, Steak Tacos -- Serpiente Emplumada, La Dona -Presentation... -- All three dishes were presented well. -- The drinks had an awesome presentation. -Taste... -- Chips & Salsa were great, Steak Quesadilla & Steak Tacos had a great steak flavor. -- La Dona tasted great. A little sweeter than expected though. -- Serpiente Emplumada was amazing. I believe they exchanged Tequila for Mescal. Definitely a top choice! -Texture... -- All the food was tender, juicy and hot when it was delivered to the table. Menu Prices: (5 of 5) -Our bill was $55 and seemed in line with what we expected. Especially with the great drinks. Overall: (5 of 5) -Nice Tequila Bar snuggled into the Riverside area. If you like a Mexican Mule (use Tequila vs Vodka) you should get the Serpiente Emplumada. We will definitely be heading over there again!

My boyfriend and I met up with friends here right when they opened around 3 PM on a Saturday. It got busier around 4, but we staff was super attentive and we didn't have to wait long to get our orders in. The food was good (we got tacos and chips), but the drinks were GREAT. I got La Dona and another drink (I can't remember the name) - but whatever drink you DO get - it's going to be good. 10/10 recommend for drinks.

La Catrina was fantastic! I got the jalapeño margarita (and then another, so delicious!) and my husband got the mango mojito and then a jack and coke, because he's not a tequila fan. We both LOVED our drinks, which is saying something. We sat outside for the first round, which was so nice, but moved inside when it got dark, and the inside atmosphere was awesome. Throughout, the waitstaff was friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!

Awesome bar with great atmosphere! My wife and I just discovered this place so wanted to give it a try. Friendly wait staff greeted us as soon as we entered. It's a small place, so I'm assuming it gets full at peak times (it was 5:30 Friday). My wife tried the Paloma Negra and I tried the Cantarito. Both drinks were excellent! We also tried a couple of things off the limited food menu (basically appetizers). The tacos de calle are really small (4" diameter tortillas, 3 tacos to an order), but full of very flavorful skirt steak. My favorite was the arrachera quesadilla. If you're hungry, eat somewhere else then stop here for drinks.

Mojitos & sangria is 10/10. The best decor all year round. Stephanie is the best bartender!

Stopped in for drinks last Saturday. The service was prompt, friendly, and helpful. They answered my questions, and made some great drinks from their fantastic selection of mezcals and tequilas.

Amazing ambiance, even better drinks. Food was good as well. We ate it so fast we didn't think to document it. Really liked this place and we'll be back. I had the jalapeño margarita, my husband had the Muerte Lenta. Food we had chips and salsa and tacos. The tacos are finger food. 4 inch tortillas but very delicious.

Great food! The wait staff was wonderful! Drinks are amazing and unique. Tacos were good.

The service, food, and drinks were great! Our server was very knowledgeable about different tequilas. The ambiance is a day of the dead feel, but it's nice. It is small and intimate.

Good micheladas but they will keep pushing your reservation time back an hour. Don't think it's fair if you already have a set reservation.

Smells amazing the whole time. Staff was great. Sean helped us out and gave some solid recommendations. We went with the pepperonly pizza. When it hit the table, the presentation looked amazing. First bite... that was it. The crust had that perfect crunch on the outside but still soft inside. You could taste that wood-fired char, just enough to give it that smoky edge. The cheese was melted just right, stretchy and hot. The sauce had a nice balance, a little tangy, a little sweet, not overpowering anything. The pepperoni was the best part. Crispy on the edges, a little oily in a good way, and full of flavor. Every bite just worked. Thin, balanced, nothing too heavy. If you like pizza, this is one of those spots you gotta try. I'd go back for that one easy.

Everything came out fresh, flavorful, and we enjoyed what we ordered. The Buzzkill pizza was delicious, and the appetizer platter was a great option for the table. Unfortunately, the service really took away from the experience. It took about 10 minutes before anyone came over to seat us, another 10-15 minutes before someone took our order, and when our Snap Into It salad arrived (for a party of three), it only came with two pieces of bread, so we had to ask for a third. At the end of the meal, we waited around 20 minutes just to get our check. The surprising part was that the restaurant wasn't busy at all, so the slow service was hard to understand. The food was definitely the highlight, but because of the overall service experience, I don't think I'd return.

Jim-may, my man! Nice place ya got here buddy…read more I was seeking a bar that was roughly halfway between Oak Park & Orland Park (meeting someone, heh heh), and I happened to stumble upon this über-divey treasure. Miller Lite was the only beer they had on tap, but you could get a bucket of it for like a nickel. Hyperbole? Maybe. A 60oz pitcher of the classic domestic swill cost only $5, which is pretty damn tough to beat if you ask me. Liz behind the bar was super friendly and introduced herself not long after I sat down. Once my +1 arrived, Liz was nice enough to make a bag of popcorn that she gave us to munch on. Talk about being given a warm reception! They don't accept Discover and have a $10 minimum on credit card purchases, but for a small operation like this it's to be expected, so I can't fault them for that. Some of the barstools are a teensy bit ripped-up, although in a dive bar setting like this, I find that they truly 'complete the look'. Great homey feel and a jukebox loaded with tons of tunes for 50¢ or a dollar per song. They've got billiards tables and a few slot machines that I imagine get a lot of play from their 'regulars'. They also feature Karaoke on select nights of the week. There's a very tasteful piece of nude art behind the bar, which I'm told is a painted portrait of someone who works there. Being a big fan of all things naked people, I found this to be a nice touch amidst the cans of Old Style and half-empty Smirnoff bottles. ....and unless I'm mistaken, I definitely met/talked to/received free shots from *the* Jimmy of said namesake bar. His taste in Huey Lewis & The News (along with his great taste in hats) didn't go unnoticed. He was hilarious and insisted that I stick around for a while [keep in mind this was at 11pm on a Wednesday], but I had to decline. Lyons is generally off my radar, but for the way I was greeted and taken care of at this establishment, I'd not hesitate for a second to stop back in, if I were to be in the area again.

The restaurant has a classic old-school Italian supper club vibe. The staff is very friendly, and the owner, Joe, is almost always there greeting guests with a warm smile and a handshake, which adds a nice personal touch. We sat at the bar and were immediately acknowledged by Gia, who has served us before and always provides great service. She took our drink order and returned shortly afterward to take our food order. My wife ordered a 9" thin crust pizza topped with cheese, sausage, tomatoes, green peppers, and mushrooms. She said it was one of the best pizzas she has ever had. The crust was thin and crispy without being overcooked, and all of the toppings were fresh and flavorful. I started with the fried smelt appetizer. The lightly battered smelts were cooked to a perfect golden brown. The light breading allowed the flavor of the fish to really come through, and the house tartar sauce complemented them nicely. For my entrée, I ordered the corned beef and cabbage dinner special, which is available throughout the month of March. The dinner includes Parker House rolls (which could be a meal in themselves) and a choice of soup or salad. I chose the tomato bisque. The soup was creamy with a rich tomato flavor and small pieces of tomato throughout. It was easily the best tomato bisque I have ever had. The corned beef arrived nicely trimmed and had a great, hearty beef flavor without being dry. It was served with a cabbage wedge and sliced carrots. I appreciated that the vegetables remained slightly firm while still absorbing the flavor from the corned beef. I also requested a side of creamy horseradish sauce, which paired perfectly with the dish. Overall, we had a truly great experience and are already looking forward to our next visit.
