A little of the new shine has worn off. Cava is still very good but the new car scent is gone and this place has dropped in quality a bit. I'm not sure if it's a staffing problem but this location has a really tough time managing their big rushes. I've been around dinner time and even when the students are gone the line starts to get close to the door and you spend a lot of time in line just standing there. The portions, while not Chipotle bad, can be very hit or miss and often the tables are messy and the trash cans are overflowing. The food still remains of a very high quality for what you're getting. I typically get a bowl with white rice and the spicy lamb balls. Upon my recent visit I got the new steak option which I found rather disappointing. It looked like fancy dog food and tasted pretty bland. Not something I'd recommend compared to their other protein offerings. Overall I still really like Cava, but it's lost a little luster compared to how it was last year. read more

My wife and I are fans of CAVA. If you've never been to one, think a healthy-food Chipotle -- customizable Mediterranean bowls and pita wraps with lots of nutritious proteins, carbs, and veggies. And for the freshness and quality of food you get, I think a meal from here is reasonably-priced at about $11-14 per bowl/wrap after tax. I do think the portion sizes could be better, especially on the proteins, but I also understand that high-quality, healthy food isn't cheap. Generally, however, I think this place is a good option if you can't decide what to eat and just want something that's relatively quick, healthy, simple, and tasty. So far, I've tried a couple different "chef-curated" bowls and a custom bowl at this location. The chef-curated bowls were: * Harissa Avocado Bowl ($12.95) - harissa honey chicken, "Crazy Feta," hummus, feta, avocado, fire-roasted corn, Persian cucumber, pickled onions, basmati rice, "super greens," and hot harissa vinaigrette * Lentil Avocado Bowl ($11.96) - falafel, roasted vegetables, hummus, roasted eggplant, avocado, lentil tabbouleh, pickled onions, Persian cucumber, cabbage slaw, "super greens," spinach, skhug (zhug) and garlic dressings The custom "Greens and Grains" bowl ($9.97) was a modification of CAVA's Greek Salad which comes with grilled chicken, hummus, tzatziki, feta, Persian cucumber, tomato and onion, Kalamata olives, arugula, romaine, and Greek vinaigrette. The customizations included the addition of roasted eggplant dip, fire-roasted corn, and salt-brined pickles. Overall, I thought the bowls were good. Of the three above, my favorite was the Harissa Avocado Bowl. Not only was it the most filling (probably because of the basmati rice), but it had some nice spice to it. Both the Harissa Avocado and Lentil Avocado Bowls came with plenty of ripe avocado, which I appreciated. The "Crazy Feta" in the Harissa Avocado Bowl is a CAVA-created spread made with jalapeno, whipped feta, and extra virgin olive oil. It's yummy. I enjoyed all the spreads and dips which were placed on the sides of each bowl. The spreads/dips and unique, Mediterranean-inspired ingredients like spicy lamb meatballs and salt-brined pickles are some things that set CAVA apart from the competition. In particular, my wife and I really like CAVA's roasted eggplant dip. I recommend adding it to your bowl. According to the company, dressings are made fresh daily "in-house" while dips and spreads are made fresh daily in "our kitchens." If you're not familiar with zhug, or "skhug" as CAVA spells it, it's a spicy green hot sauce made with cilantro, olive oil, and chili peppers. As mentioned in my first paragraph above, I do think the portions could be better, especially when it comes to the proteins. For example, I think you get more bang for your buck from a place like Chipotle. Then again, portions are sometimes server-dependent. Some servers may give you more, some less. There wasn't a whole lot of chicken nor falafel in the bowls I had, so I felt like I was eating more roughage at CAVA compared to similar restaurants. The Lentil Avocado Bowl had only three pieces of falafel. So, I never really felt full from the Lentil Avocado Bowl. At other fast-casual healthy food chains such as Flower Child, gusto!, and Salata, I've felt more full from their salads/bowls compared to CAVA's bowls. Also, there's a place near me where I live in Atlanta called Upbeet. It's the same concept, but their bowls, which are also more expensive, are very filling. Sometimes, they're so filling that you'll have leftovers. That hasn't been the case for me here. Presentation-wise - if you care about something like that - in my experience at this location, they just slopped together the bowls and slapped on the lids. This is different from some of the aforementioned businesses who put a bit more care in the assembly and look of their products. A great local example of this is Bul Box. Not only are Bul Box's bowls (err, boxes) delicious, but they are put together beautifully too. This CAVA location is popular and can get busy during peak times. Save time by ordering online or using the CAVA app. If you sign up for an account, you can earn rewards on your purchases. There's an order pickup shelf just inside the entrance. This CAVA is located in Village Plaza, the same shopping plaza as Whole Foods, in Chapel Hill. It's one of six CAVA locations in the Triangle and 15 in North Carolina. It officially opened November 8, 2018. Conveniently, some of CAVA's dips/spreads and sauces are available at Whole Foods. Atmosphere: Cava has a clean, modern interior. They have an assembly line model similar to Chipotle that moves pretty quickly if you order in-person. Service: Their online ordering is very convenient and allows you to customize your bowl to the exact specifications you would like. We ordered online, and our bowls were ready for us at the indicated time! Food: We each ordered a Greens and Grains Bowl -- one with Saffron White Rice and Super Greens, and the other with Saffron White Rice and Arugula. As arugula fans, we really like how Cava provides arugula as a greens option, as we haven't seen this much at other restaurants (we've mostly seen mixed/super greens, spinach, lettuce, etc.). The variety of ingredients and customization options that they offer is fantastic. Our favorite ingredients are their onion and cabbage slaws, crazy feta, kalamata olives, pita crisps, lentils, corn, and red pepper and regular hummus. All their veggies were fresh! The crazy feta was crumbly and had a very pronounced taste. The pita crisps added a good crunch and were a great addition to the bowl. They were very generous with the lentils, which easily filled us up. For sauces, we really like their Hot Harissa Vinaigrette and Lemon Herb Tahini, and we love how Cava allows you to get up to 3 sauces! It was a great opportunity to try new sauces and mix different flavors. Overall: The customization and high quality ingredients offered by Cava result in the creation of a delicious and satisfying meal. Since they pack in a lot of ingredients into their bowls, Cava has consistently made for good leftovers that can be spread out over 2 or even 3 meals, which is great for our wallets too! For something that is quick and tasty with at least the impression of being healthy, it's hard to beat Cava. This location is probably the consistently the busiest of the ones in this are. Either way the food is consistent and delicious the service has always been friendly and the food comes out fast. I don't like how the website doesn't list ingredients of their food. They will tell you nutrition information but thats it. The food feels healthy because its got a really fresh vibe, but for example 1oz of their garlic sauce has 19 grams of fat! Plus some cholesterol from their delicious lamb meat balls...you can see how it might add up quickly. Also, its not exactly cheap. For what I consider a slight elevation from something like Chipotle, that elevation is definitely something you will pay for. Don't be surprised to spend $30 for two people. Maybe thats not alot to you...dont know dont care. Either way I recommend you give this place a try. read more

I love Cava. If you have never been it is like the Mediterranean version of Chipotle, but way better than Chipotle. They have an app you can use to order ahead but the line always moves pretty quickly. All of the ingredients are so fresh and delicious. I love the honey chicken. This is one of the best takeout foods that I can recommend. It layout, it's similar to a chipotle, where base food items can be customized with choice toppings. I went with a falafel grain bowl, coming out to about 10 dollars. The food is impressively flavorful, and no bite felt like the flavor was not enough. The mix of sauces and toppings really add a lot. Because of this, every CAVA experience can be a new one. The falafel is also VERY good. I've had good falafel and bad ones as well. CAVA's falafel is excellent. I came to CAVA for their soft opening and enjoyed a free bowl. I was back 2 days later to pay for another; it was that good. The spicy lamb meatballs are my favorite; definitely worth the upcharge. I usually get a grain bowl because I get the bet of both worlds. There are so many different topping options that you could start with the same base and protein and have a completely different bowl every time. I would suggest tasting different toppings, dips, and dressings; the mini spoons are there for a reason. I haven't been brave enough to try the Harissa after overhearing that it was very spicy, but one day...one day. The venue is modern and welcoming and the service is always pleasant. I'd also like to take a moment to give kuddos to CAVA for their door design. The doors are installed at an angle, so that it is virtually impossible to hit anyone on the way in or out. It seems like a simple concept, but I've never seen it before, and I eat out quite a bit. CAVA is my favorite new spot in Chapel Hill. I just wish I could afford to eat there more often read more

I wanted to see what all the hype is about and to be honest l wasn't very optimistic about places that's get hype up and talked about because l always get disappointed after trying these places. BUT...the hype is real for Cava! The place was popping and the line was pretty long when l got there and it they people that work here were very efficient, the young lady with red highlight was very friendly...l think she's the boss (she's super helpful!) and the line moved along really fast. I got the Spicy Green Bowl (DAFREAKINGLICIOUS!)...it's the one with falafel. The restaurant's atmosphere is kind of industrial with the exposed concrete floors and the deco is pretty bare but clean. Mm-mm-mm! In a spacious setting right beside Whole Foods, CAVA offers great seating and an atmosphere meant for friends, family, and good eating! The menu is very straightforward in that you first start with your base (I chose the green+grains bowl) and then add toppings as you go. I recommend the eggplant + red pepper dip, falafel (you can do half and half on protein), and the cauliflower quinoa tabbouleh. The toppings are definitely appealing and by the time I was done ordering, my bowl was pretty full and so appetizing in color and texture. I tried not to mix my bowl when eating but everything just tasted so good together. CAVA is overall a pretty clean eat and fulfilling. I'm talking about flavor explosion! My visits to CAVA will be more frequent for sure and maybe I'll look for their spreads/dips at Whole Foods to try at home! read more

Great food for a good price! Love it! They have so so many styles to prepare your meal - in a grain bowl, in a pita, in a salad bowl, in a mini pita, or in a grain AND salad bowl. And each of those come with more choices of which grains and which lettuce! Their food is fresh, tasty, and abundant. They have a ton of drinks to choose from, and they offer Maine Root fountain drinks made with fair trade cane sugar. So good! The space is large with plenty of seating, and even offer outdoor seating. It is loud because of the high ceilings, but that seems to be the trend lately - loud restaurants! The parking lot isn't great here due to Whole Foods being right beside it, but it's also not a deterrent. You could eat here every day for weeks and never have the exact same meal! First time trying CAVA and it was so good. I got the falafel bowl. The falafel definitely wasn't authentic, but it was a different kind of good. All the sauces I tried (tahini, zhug, harissa) were great. The garlic sauce resembled mayo so if you don't like mayo I'd stay away. They let you get sauces on the side to try which is nice. I would like to start off by saying the food is defiantly 5 star! However service was meh. My great auntie and sister really wanted to try it (tiktok for my sister brought us here of course). So of course we had a lot of questions and appreciated patience given to us. When we started at the line the server was so sweet and helpful. This server was brash, standoffish, and just gave the feels that he was over working. Which fair, however as new customers to the chain we just had a few questions. We asked what the cucumbers were soaked in, and he shrugged his shoulders at us. The other server came back towards us, so we asked him and he told us with no problems. My aunt was unsure of what dressing she wanted the first server was so polite, he went over the ingredients with her no problems at all. He went back to help another customer, so we were kind of stuck with the second server. The second server just stood there acting as if he didn't hear our questions. My Aunt was just still a bit unsure on what dressing she wanted, the first server came back and offered for her to try some he said hey, I can actually give you some to go if that works for you and of course she got excited and said yes please that would be great! She only asked for 2 dressings to go. She didn't notice the croutons I believe they are. And when she asked the second server if she could have some he told her no. We shrugged it off, however I really felt that was so wrong of him. How do you tell a paying customer they can't have an ingredient? Weird. We got there around 8:10pm yesterday and according to Google they close at 10pm. So I am very unsure of where the "attitude" came from the second server. read more

If so, you might be slightly amused by their interior ad campaign around some Influencer (according to my wife), which roughly translates to "woman brooding alone with salad." However the ingredients tasted fresh and super flavorful. Needless to say, I'm never going back to Chipotle. The service I received today was unforgettable very rude. I have been to this restaurant several times and never encountered such disrespect. I was trying to put my order in and was being rushed then she was throwing my food in the bowl. Once I finished my ordered instead of my my food in the bag she just dropped them even other staff member look at her all she did was laugh and shoved her shoulders. Before I left I asked to speak to the manager and lie and behold she was the manager. I said Wow and your the manager I stated to her that her customer service was horrible and she needs to work on it. She shoved her shoulders again and walked off.. I'm going to have to visit Cava again! I went today with my friend who had come here recently and recommended it for lunch. She described it as a fancy chipotle with Mediterranean flavors-- and she was spot on with her description. I enjoyed the slightly industrial vibe of the interior space. It was bustling with locals inside. I ended up ordering a mini pita and soup, but I think I'll go with a bowl next time when I am more hungry! I ended up going with falafel, tzaziki, eggplant spread, the cucumber salad, the tomato salad-- all finished off with some yogurt dill sauce and some tabbouleh on the side. I was most impressed by the freshness and tanginess of all the ingredients. The soup was a very average tomato-based vegetable soup, which I might not order again. Not sure if their soup selection rotates? This was not clear. The other thing I will rave about is their cucumber mint lemonade. WOW that was delicious!
