    Bowl

I'm a regular cava customer in Los Angeles, so when I found out it was coming to my home town I was very excited, but unfortunately the cava here in Ventura isn't the same.. they are very stinge with the portion sizes they need to go back to training because i don't understand why they only half scoop the portion. I've come in 3 times to this new location hoping I would get better outcome each time but unfortunately it's always the same, and every time I do come in there always something unavailable, which doesn't make sense where is the sense of urgency from the team? I work in food service so coming in as a customer I would expect a decent service and a quality experience.

CAVA has always been one of my go-to spots whenever I'm in LA. My favorite location has always been the Huntington Beach one because I spend time there every summer, so I've always associated CAVA with those trips. Now that a location opened just five minutes from my house, I was super excited... and a little sad at the same time because it almost takes away that "LA craving" feeling I used to have for it. For anyone who hasn't tried it, CAVA is basically a more elevated Chipotle with a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern twist. You build your bowl with fresh ingredients, tons of flavorful toppings, and everything is well seasoned. The African in me definitely appreciates how bold and fresh the flavors are -- nothing tastes bland here. I visited this location on grand opening day after seeing on Instagram that they were giving away free bowls. When I got there that wasn't actually the case, but I still decided to stay and order because I was excited to check it out. A few things stood out during my visits: * Portion sizes: I'm not sure if I got a bowl or half a bowl. I understand restaurants need to manage portions, but baby portions aren't the move. If something costs extra, just say that upfront instead of making customers ask multiple times for more. * Staff attitude: The lines here are constantly out the door, so I understand it can get overwhelming. I've worked in the food industry for five years myself, so I try to give grace. But the energy could definitely be a little warmer. * Online ordering system: Please fix this. Canceling an entire order because one ingredient is out of stock is crazy. A quick text, call, or substitution option would make way more sense -- especially for customers who are on a time crunch. With that being said, the food still speaks for itself. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and satisfying, which is why CAVA has such a loyal following in the first place. I've visited this location twice so far and since it just opened, I'm willing to give them time to work out the growing pains. I'll definitely come back and update my review in a few months. Picture below for your enjoyment. For now: 3 stars. Pro tip: Order ahead, get there early, or make sure you're not in a rush.

Stopped in on a Thursday evening. We got in just before the line was wrapping around the restaurant. We ordered two build-your-own bowls. Ingredients were all fresh, a little disappointing that they were out of olives. The line quickly got backed up with just one person working all food stations, but Adriana did her best to keep it moving and keep patrons happy. Overall enjoyed our meal, but felt like portion sizes were small compared to other Cava locations. Parking is available right in front, but lot gets busy with other restaurants nearby.

So happy we finally have Cava! I really enjoyed the amount of choices they offer and the price!! It's very reasonable and affordable! The food is fresh and very flavorful! Definitely give it a try!

I've heard of CAVA before and decided to give it a try. This specific bowl was a "fan favorite" and I can see why. I'd probably add the sweet potatoes if I ordered again. Would recommend!

This tiny portion for $18. While tasty, it barely had any protein and I had to go to q&q immediately after for some real food.

Gave them a second shot a week later. Went inside this time and loaded up the bowl. Rice was under cooked, they skimp hard on the meat(possibly race motivated since the lady behind me got double the chicken I got for essentially the same order except she was white). Overall food was very meh, protein portions are still a huge problem for places like this and chipotle, they need to start portioning out their protein by weight so we know they're being honest. Will never spend a dime here again.

I was very excited to try CAVA. I ordered the harissa avocado, add sweet potatoes and a harissa chicken Power bowl. The bowls were so spicy I could not eat it. I went in with my uneaten bowl and asked what is spicy on there is it the vinaigrette? They said yes it's the vinaigrette. They also said the chicken has the same spice on it. I explained that it was my first time and I couldn't eat the bowl and I asked, could they make it again without the spice? They looked at me like I was crazy and then I said does Harrissa mean spicy? One of the men preparing the food said yes I stood there looking at them, them looking at me. No one offered to help so I said OK thanks and walked away after spending $50 on two bowls and a cookie. Seriously, get a manager in the spot for quality control. This could be resolved by adding a chili pepper next to the menu, asking people is it your first time? This is a spicy dressing. adding what harissa is I just thought it was the name of the bowl. could be named after a Cook for all I know? I didn't know that harissa meant spicy. Here is my receipt I would really like a manager to contact me. I can't even review the food as I have no idea what it tastes like other than too spicy to eat.

I used to be a frequent guest at the Cava in Pasadena, so I was excited to have one near work but was quickly disappointed. I ordered for pick up for 12:15 and my order had already been out and waiting when I arrived a little after 12. My food was thrown in a bowl. My falafels were cold and they missed my pita crisps. I persuaded a friend to join me and she wasnt very satisfied either. We go to all the local establishments for lunch and the portions here were small, especially for the price. She had to open her wrap just to find some chicken. I dont think I would return any time soon. I do hope they work out the kinks to maybe try them again in the future.

Excited to have tried Cava! It's definitely the new spot in town because there was a non stop flow of people, but never a line that didn't move. They are fast and efficient. We tried the Harissa avocado bowl and Harissa chicken bowl. The lingering spice was just enough kick. Lots of amazing flavors that all gelled together well. It was a bummer because the were out of the broccoli that went with the chicken bowl (even though here was a sign posted, we missed it). Not really a good substitution offered. I liked that while you can build your own, there are menu options. All the different inclusions can be a bit overwhelming, so it's nice to just choose something off the menu. The inside was clean, decent amount of seating and comfortable. The also have a patio option which is perfect for sunny so cal days!

Busy!! But the service is great and they get thru the line pretty quick. I got two of the most popular pitas, they were a little hard to manage messy wise. Really fresh and good quality on meat and veggies! I think next time I would try a bowl for less mess.really nice outdoor seating area. Fresh inside design, nice addition as a fresh option for Ventura.

The food is GOOD. It's yummy. Decent portions, and the pita chips are great. The drinks are alright. However, the customer service was just so mediocre. It's very disorganized and the girl at the front preparing the first half of the bowl kept forgetting what we asked for and we had to repeat ourselves multiple times. They also got our bowls mixed up with other people in the line. The place itself is nice, a little hectic but it's a new opening. We're trying to give it the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully it'll settle in nicely.

This is a hidden international gem of a restaurant, which may take you a little time to wait if you aren't ordering ahead, but it's worth it! There is a variety of food offerings and to-go beverages, sure to satisfy almost anyone's palate. I've dined here a few times and my favorite sandwich is the Rachel** - packed with sauerkraut (gut-friendly probiotics!) & well-seasoned turkey. So delicious. And it came with a tasty side salad. You can also choose fries as a side or tater tots, for an up charge - both satisfying options, IMO! Dining vibe is low-key and spacious for small groups and the restaurant is kept very clean, with festive touches. I'd recommend going 'old fashioned', skipping the order ahead/apps or delivery and mindfully enjoying a meal to close out 2025 - it's the perfect spot to do it and support small business. Pro-Tip: Don't skip dessert! I've tried the cream horn, but also eyeing both the German Chocolate and Tres Leches cake, which were recommended by some fellow diners on my last visit. **On a throwback note, to me "The Rachel" is a chic & trendy haircut from the 1990s, but here we are in the 2020s, and it's a delicious sandwich - haha! Both are classics to me :)

But it is different when you need to escape the chaos and a "bad" day/week. Not only it is the confort food we seek, but it's the atmosphere! His energy is so positive, it turns our frowns upside down and we leave this place feeling like we received the hug we needed for years. He wasn't our server tonight, but he stopped and made us feel like we were family! And I cannot forget Kat and Viktor. Our server was awesome and took care of us. Viktor took his time to check in on us. I am not about to stroll into Oxnard and pretend I am some linen-shirted coastal ethnographer with…read morea tote bag full of artisanal certainty. I had never been here before. I was merely a road-battered pilgrim, six hours removed from Oakland, washed ashore near the freeway at the velvet fringe of Ventura County, in that glossy new development called The Collection, where every building looks as though it was approved by a committee whose mission statement was: Let there be ambient lighting and retail optimism. My dinner choices arrived like mildly desperate contestants in a televised pageant. Cheesecake Factory told me the wait would be twenty-five minutes and that they would text me. Reader, I assume that text is now trapped in a ravine somewhere, being nursed back to health by quail. Then there was some steak place whose name dissolved from memory before I finished looking at it. So into Lazy Dog I wandered, hungry, tired, spiritually fragile, and very open to persuasion. And I have to admit: the place has a certain charm. From the back at night, Lazy Dog is weirdly enchanting. The warm lights, the patio glow, the bottles shining through the bar, the whole thing looks like a lodge designed by someone who wanted to seduce exhausted motorists into believing life is still full of promise. Yet the actual entrance is oddly easy to miss. The restaurant is basically playing hard to get. A chain restaurant with mystery. A flirt. A woodland princess in practical shoes. Inside, the vibe is part upscale sports bar, part polished suburban den, part "let's make everyone from picky teenagers to diet-conscious moms to semi-hungover road warriors feel included." Buffalo Wild Wings, but after therapy, better lighting, and a semester abroad. The seating is not what I would call voluptuous. You are not sinking into a cloud of velvet mercy here. But the room is lively, social, and good-humored. It hums in that specific modern way that says yes, you may order tacos, noodles, a burger, or a cocktail with fruit in it, and no one will judge your lack of culinary allegiance. The cocktail situation was fun. I had the raspberry sangria, which tasted less like old-world wine-country sophistication and more like Hawaiian Punch got hired by a vineyard. It was bright, sweet, cheerful, and only slightly ridiculous. A prom queen in a stemmed glass. I did not hate it. I also did not see God. 3/5. Service was reliable, friendly, and sincere, which in today's dead-eyed hospitality landscape feels almost mystical. No fake grandeur, no attitude, no emotional frostbite. Just kind, competent people doing their jobs without making me feel like an interruption in their evening. That deserves respect. The menu is broad enough to make you nervous. Burgers, Italian-ish things, Thai-ish things, tacos, bowls, pizza, noodles, probably a diplomatic treaty if you ask politely. Usually a menu this sprawling suggests culinary panic. But Lazy Dog somehow lands on the right side of chaos. Not transcendent, not revolutionary, but steady in a way that is more useful than many trendier places would like to admit. The fried hard-boiled deviled eggs were the surprise star. In theory, this is the kind of appetizer that sounds like America whispering, "What if we made the picnic more reckless?" In practice: very good. Crispy outside, creamy inside, faintly absurd, and impossible not to admire. 4.5/5. The shrimp tacos were also solid. Bright, fresh, avocado doing its usual California diplomacy, pickled onions bringing color and sass, and the whole plate looking just photogenic enough to make younger foodie civilians feel seen by the algorithm. 4.3/5. The shrimp Thai noodles were decent too. Not an oracle, not a revelation, not the kind of dish that makes monks ring bells in the mountains, but flavorful and more than respectable after a long drive. 3.8/5. That may be Lazy Dog's real strength. It is not trying to be a sacred culinary temple guarded by tattooed sommeliers and fermented foams. It is trying to be open late, fun, dependable, and welcoming enough to make a tired traveler feel the night still has one last good chapter in it. And after six hours in the car, that is not nothing. That is grace with parking. So no, this is not the hidden gastronomic throne of Oxnard. But it is a lively, late-night, good-energy landing pad with charming exterior glow, sincere service, fun drinks, and better food than a cynic might expect. Would I come back? Absolutely. Mostly because Lazy Dog fed me, comforted me, and acknowledged the passage of time, which is more than I can say for Cheesecake Factory. Also, points for being open until midnight, because some places close early as if adulthood itself should have a curfew. Lazy Dog, by contrast, understands the nocturnal needs of the weary, the under-caffeinated, the gossip-prone, and the mildly glamorized freeway drifter still chasing one last decent meal before surrendering to hotel-sheet oblivion.

Everything was delicious, but my favorite item on the plate actually ended up being their house made berry jam. It was so good paired with their perfectly crusty ciabatta bread! We also ordered the "Breakfast Charcuterie" as an appetizer which was beautifully plated. I loved the toasted focaccia and it was so fun getting to top your own bread with the sunny side up egg, creamy cheese options, fresh avocado, smoked salmon, pickled red onions, calabrian chili crunch, and pickled pistachios. While I didn't get to try their toasts, our table also ordered their "Salmon Avocado Toast" ($19) and their "Avocado Pomodoro Toast" ($18). Each dish was so aesthetically pleasing. However, when we left closer to 9:45am, there was already a line formed outside that wrapped around the side of the building.
