I've only done delivery orders in the past so this is my first time dining in. I was surprised by how spacious it was inside. Other than the huge seating area, there was also a big kitchen and a section to get your drinks, utensils and condiments. It feels more like a table service restaurant. Their lunch specials are a great deal! It comes with a side and two breadsticks. I got the Tri-tip with roasted vegetables and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. My friends got the grilled chicken breast with garlic mashed potatoes, and pesto pasta with garlic mashed potatoes. As we arrived just before the lunch rush, our food was served relatively quickly. Food quality: This 4-star review is specifically for the delicious onion, tomato & cheese pizza and Caesar salad dressing, which earned my highest recommendations. Overall, the food is fairly tasty for a 12-restaurant operation. As for the tri tip, which I also tried, eh, it could definitely use more spices and it was a little too chewy for my taste, so I would not recommend it. On the upside, my BF flavored it up for a delicious second-day reheated meal. Being thoughtful & generous we provided an 18% tip as we ordered our family meal for the parents and 5 children. Ready to go doordash or uber meat, salad, breadstiks were thrown onto heated pans and run over to our table and just literally "dropped" off. A glass of wine served in an unwashed glass. But the children's cheese pizza never showed up for nearly 25 minutes after our getting the attention of 3 servers and the host cashier who witnessed first hand our generous "to insure prompt service" tip. Finally we got the attention of the Asst. Mgr. - who disconcertedly "threw out" we'll credit out the pizza - when our kids still hadn't even been served any pizza. All they had was breadstiks. This was our 2nd terrible experience with Stonefire Grill. This is a doordash facility at best. Ventura has numerous excellent restaurants with BBQ: WoodRanch, Marshalls, Stephens, et al all great settings for family dinner - avoid Stonefire Grill Ventura at all costs. Happy New Year! I order from here often especially the stimulus package and I usually really enjoy the quality and value. I ordered a several salads for lunch for my clients and picked these up from this location. The process ordering online is easy and efficient as my order was almost ready when I came to the actual location to pick these up. The staff who helped me that time were friendly and provided helpful service. They made sure all my orders were in the bags and also tried to ensure I got all I need. I called up the store after a few days because I lost my receipt which I needed to submit for expense reimbursement from my company. The lady who helped me was Chloe and she was very pleasing on the phone and got all the information from me she needed to be able to help retrieve and send me a copy of my receipt. She successfully helped me with this all in less than 10 minutes and she did it with courtesy and efficiency. Chloe is a lifesaver and I am sure she is highly customer-service oriented with her role with her job. This is the fifth time i have visited a StoneFire Grill. Once was in Pasadena, once in the West San Fernando Valley, and the other times were in Ventura. This review is for the Ventura, CA restaurant. I will comment on the food, value, service, ambiance, and overall experience that I had today. I went for lunch and ordered a lunch special: BBQ chopped salad and tortilla soup and used my birthday free dessert for cheesecake. I enjoyed each part of my meal. The salad was fresh and flavorful. I added tri-tip to the basic main course option. It was good i did as it boosted the protein level of the meal. The tri-tip was well cut up so mixed into the salad well. The tortilla soup was a creamy/milk based version. It has a little kick to it. I countered that by eating a bread stick and salad with it. My only little quibble is it is called a BBQ chopped salad (I believe) and there is nothing BBQ to it unless you add the optional protein. I availed myself to the available BBQ sauce available at the island where the drinks, utensils, extra plates, and napkins were laid out. I added the BBQ sauce to the meat and tossed it together and replated it so I could mix it all together. The cheesecake was rich, but not overwhelmingly so. It followed the meal nicely. I would order everything i had again next time I visit. There was a very good amount of food for the cost of the meal even adding the tri-tip to the cost. I believe the soft drinks/iced tea are also offered for a reduced price from the regular price, but i did not partake. *** Service was excellent. The person at the eat in the restaurant order/pay line was kind and resourceful and went out of his way to say happy birthday to me. He did not have a name badge, so perhaps was new. He quickly created a positive first impression. While he did not know how to do part of the transaction, he quickly reached out to the manager who fixed the situation and graciously taught him what to do the next time the same issue arose. The manager herself was highly professional and efficient. She knew her job and everyone else's as well. My food was delivered to my table quickly and was nicely plated. The servers Abby and Jasmine checked on me at my table multiple times. They brought me what I asked for with pleasant attitudes. It was not very busy when I arrived, but I have been to many full service restaurants that the service was not nearly as good. I was happy i had tipped well! Every surface I saw was clean including by the BBQ sauce that is self served. The tables were clean as was the floor. It was pretty quiet when I was there, but was getting much busier as I was leaving. I really like the model of ordering food at a central location with food runners to deliver the food to tables. It is efficient. As an aside, the restaurant 's regional facilities manager was in the restaurant addressing a facilities issue. He was very pleasant as i briefly engaged him as he had remodeling plans spread over a couple of tables. I went by myself today so could o serve more than if I had been with others. I enjoyed my mea and will encourage having other meals at the Ventura Stone fire Grill with my friends and family in the future. (I was not compensated for this review.) read more

Dinner was very disappointing. I did not know they didn't have table service anymore. My chicken was undercooked, and I literally had to walk to the kitchen to ask them to cook it more. The food was mediocre. The chicken tasted like it had come out of a bag. My husband's steak was not hot. I remember it used to be good and the coleslaw was much better. Important to note that at this restaurant you order when you come in prior to seating yourself. I wasn't aware and with their large menu it made actually getting in and seated a ridiculous wait (everyone takes time at the register to review the menu and order thus holding up the line). After ordering, we went to get fountain drinks. Iced tea was old. First few soda selections were out of syrup. After we found an empty clean table, we went to find the restroom-no signs anywhere pointing to a restroom and with the staff hustling around it was hard to get someone attention to ask where it was. Thankfully the restroom was clean. Food was served quick enough. It was basic and just alright. Watching the staff run around was chaos. Just picked up my to go order and the girl working the to go counter treated me as if I didn't exist. My order was the ONLY order to be picked up and she never acknowledged me. Never looked my way. I made sure that she could see me. Now she was being super friendly while helping a man and his toddler with their order. When she was finished with their order she asked the toddler if he wanted his apple juice now and he did so guess what... she turns to go and get his drink. She still does not look my way. Again my food is the only pickup order there. So before she walks away to get the toddler his apple juice I had to almost demand that she hands me my order. Stonefire Grill has been a go to for us for years. We've noticed that the quality and consistency has gone downhill in the last couple of years or it's the location in Ventura that is subpar. I am writing this after another disappointing meal. We take out occasionally and would have mentioned these issues if we were in the restaurant. Thinking it could just be carelessness with the takeout. We order our standards BBQ Chop Salad and South of the Border Salad w Chicken. There were a few pieces of chicken but it was hard to decipher from the rest of the vegetables. My wife's salad had ingredients that were not listed on the menu and very little of what was supposed to be included. I don't think we will be returning any time soon. read more

5 Star Service Experience: On Friday, March 6th I called right at opening (11am) for a last-minute change on my pickup order which was 15 minutes after opening. Food poisoning!!! Came here only for large gathering of friends. Ordered chicken nachos and a Pizza they call The Favorite. We asked for salsa for the nachos , they brought a small bowl, I scooped a large amount on to a chip and it was moldy and bad! I alerted waitress and she said sorry but Didn't remove the bowl of rotten salsa or offer fresh. The "favorite pizza" was flavorless with avocado that wasn't fully ripe , gross . Dr. pepper was flat. Only thing good was the carrot cake . Plus the whole restaurant smells like sewage! People like going her when in large groups because it's easy and you don't have to worry about splitting bill up between 30 people but the restaurant needs to be cleaned and the kitchen staff need to be trained on what food to throw out. The food at Stonefire is good, but the portions are very small for the price. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, and the meat only sat in the middle of the bread--it didn't even cover it. My daughter ordered the same thing and had the same issue. For both of us, the sandwiches were mostly bread, something you could easily make at home for a lot less money. We spent over $40 on our meals, plus $7 for six pieces of bread that tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. We've had their bread fresh before, and this was definitely not the same. For what you pay, the value just isn't there. That said, the food itself is tasty, and the customer service is decent. The restaurant is usually quiet since it's not very crowded, which makes it a nice, calm spot. But overall, the portion sizes don't match the price, and that takes away from the experience. read more

Ok food, terrible non service. Management was MIA First time dining at this location and it was so disappointing. No one at the Host stand to let us know that we had to order at the cashier the cashier was not helpful. Tipping before you get served is a really bad idea for those that are dining in- I would not have tipped 18% if I knew what a terrible experience we were about to have. The drinks/ service area was dirty. There were empty spots where flatware should have been. Both iced tea dispensers were " out of order" and the soda from the dispensers were warm and tasted dirty. Our food came in several stages and required our having to ask our servers twice where the rest of the order was. The response to one of these request was a hostile "What?" ! Tables around us were left unbussed/dirty while there was plenty of chatter amongst staff members. The food was alright but by the time our order was complete we were so disappointed that we just wanted to get out of there. We had to hunt down the to go boxes and had another hunt for a bag. I drove to Ventura today to help my daughter-in-law and granddaughters, since my son has been working the Los Angeles County fires for three weeks and has not been home. The food is delicious. We got the stimulus package order with the tri tip salad pasta breadsticks and pizza. Reasonable price with delivery aswell! They put the bbq sauce on the side which is a great for those who want their tri tip dry. i will say the breadsticks were heavily seasoned tasted to salty for my taste buds (sigh) have yet to enter the store so i can sat what the vibe is like in there but if its anything like the flavor of the food then It will be an amazing experience! read more

I visited Stonefire Grill in Ventura on a Sunday with my family for lunch. While we were eating, our pizza accidentally got knocked over on the table. It wasn't a big deal--we just placed it back on the tray and continued eating. A few minutes later, to our surprise, the manager came over and handed us a fresh pizza in a box, saying, "We made an extra one for you guys to take home." We hadn't asked for it, but it was such a thoughtful gesture! I really appreciated their kindness and attention to customer service. That small act made a big impression on us.
