Unassuming little bakery on Mendo Ave has the flakiest apple pie and apple dumplings!!! Years ago I recall trying some of their other items that were very good but once I tasted the pie and dumplings I haven't tried anything else! Always a treat when I'm in the vicinity to stop in and grab some dumplings and major sadness if I'm too late and they've sold out for the day. He does a lot of cakes that sound amazing and I'm sure they are. Would like to try them sometime. I'd much rather support a small business such as this than get goods at a grocery store bakery. The rudeness was not OK. I've been researching local bakeries to buy a beautiful cake for my daughter-in-law's upcoming Baby Shower. Unfortunately, I received rude service. I called and a man picked up the phone. I asked a few initial questions, "How many people does a half sheet cake feed?" "What kind of decorations can you do?" Him: "Have you ever bought a cake before?" Me: "Not a baby shower cake?" Him: "Well then maybe you should go to one of those other places where you usually buy a cake?" Me: Yes ok, I think I will do that". Sadly, this was unacceptable customer service. My friend who used to buy Princess cakes from him is also appalled at the rudeness. I finally stopped into Cavaliere's Bakery for the first time, and it's a lovely local find. It is a family-owned spot, and you can really feel that warmth--the folks working there were incredibly pleasant and welcoming. The Space & Location The interior is a bit sparse but very clean and pleasant. While it is located right next to a pawnshop, don't let that deter you; the area felt perfectly fine and there is plenty of easy parking right in front. The Treats The baked goods are mostly excellent. The chocolate chip cookie and the sugar cookie were both fantastic, but the real standout was the Princess Cake--it was absolutely delicious. My only slight disappointment was the shortbread; it was a bit "meh" for my taste and felt a little too sugary, lacking that rich buttery balance I usually look for. Came in to try the Beehive cake but it was too early in the morning. Left with 3 pastries ($17.10) these pastries were doughy,undercooked, just ugh. I also could taste a gross imitation flavoring in the dough of one pastry. I was so surprised to receive such lousy pastries after reading the great reviews. So we went to Gravensteins Apple Faire & came upon this fine baked good establishment, Cavalieres. We were lucky to try a slice of their apple cake since they had sold out the previous day. It's a slice of heaven with apples incorporated into the mix. The serving is generously topped with a delicious concoction of maple crème on top, then a topping of caramelized apples but wait there's more, a dollop of creamy buttery topping. It's a great presentation & even better apple cake. Very impressive, indeed. They have a store front in Santa Rosa & participate in the farmers market arena. Seek them out. read more

It was my birthday, and I've always, always, loved Italian Rum cake. Our local market used to make it but they don't anymore. My wife and I were cruising the Windsor Oliver's (wonderful store) and stopped by the bakery section and I asked if they made Italian Rum cake. She said 'no', but I had the presence of mind to ask if she knew who did. 'Yes' she said with a smile......So I presented her with what I thought was an appropriate Italian gesture for 'well'. Whenever I'm in a new town I always stop by a local bakery to check it out. This place seemed to get a wide range of reviews, so I decided to check it out for myself. I went in hoping to grab some cupcakes, but they didn't have any in the case. They did however have some really great looking other options. I got the bear claw, sticky bun, and a raspberry cream cheese danish. Bear claw and sticky bun were AMAZING. I often throw away pastries, I just won't eat it if I don't like it, but I finished all 3 by myself! I had some for breakfast the next day and they were still really good. I would have to say this is not a bakery, I would ever recommend. I tried three of their danishes. I only took a few bites from each and threw them out. I went in one day and asked if they always make the slices of champagne cake. I was told yes because I wanted to go in the next day and get two slices for a friend. Was so very disappointed a couple days ago at the bakery. It was almost 3:00, closing but could not believe the beehive slice was fresh that day, and the bear claw could hardly be cut with a fork. I wonder if the bakery has been sold recently (?) as its been some time since I've been there. The pecan coffee cake was very good, but its back to Criminal where I can count on all being fresh! We ordered a special cake on Thursday to be ready on Saturday at noon. The woman who answered the phone said to pick it up at 2:00 since it wouldn't be ready at noon. She never mentioned that they close at 2:30. They didn't even bother to call, at say 2:15 or 2:20, to say they close at 2:30. Safeway or some other store bakery would have called, and has done so in the past, if you aren't there at the discussed pickup time. Despite driving there and arriving at 2:33 the place was deserted. Regardless of the type of business no place is empty of personnel at second of closing. There's always at least 1 individual washing and cleaning and sweeping etc. Sounds to me they left early without caring about current and future customers. Thank God this wasn't a wedding cake or something. Will never order anything or buy anything from here again. Very Irresponsible. read more

My hubby called me to tell me he was picking up a treat from a little bakery he found accidentally. What a find! For such an unassuming storefront I would have never guessed I would get the best danish I have had in my life. It was flaky, crispy on the outside and delicate with the perfect sweetness and a surprise nutmeg flavor. I have never had anything so perfectly baked. I ordered the chocolate champagne cake and had Happy Birthday written on top and ordered some cupcakes to go with it and it was the most delicious cake I have had in a long time! The baby pink roses on top looked real. I would highly suggest ordering cakes from Cavaliers Bakery and they also make their own homemade pastries. We by chance sampled a slice of their delicious crumbly Dutch Apple Pie while at the Gravenstein Apple Fair today and believe me, we made a note to visit this bakery soon! It was my first time trying this bakery and sad to say it was very disappointing. I picked up their lemon bar, pink Champagne cake and chocolate cookie. The lemon bar- instead of using real lemon juice they use lemon extract. It did not taste like a lemon bar at all! I recommend the criminal Bakery in SR if u want a bomb lemon bar! The pink champagne cake- again, the flavor was just not there- it tasted like it came out of an easy bake oven. The chocolate chip cookie- Now this puppy was very yummy and chewy!
