We went to Cavanaugh's to watch the US v. Ghana World Cup game. While overall things were OK, I was really surprised at how quickly the bartender and manager got defensive and rude. What was even more odd about it was that they got all agitated in response to a simple question, one that more professional staff would take in stride, about whether or not we could watch more sports commentary in the middle of a game. So let's get this straight. You advertise as a sports bar, even to go so far as to have an ad in the Philly Weekly to advertise that you are serious about showing World Cup games. Then, when clients ask if they can listen to the half-time commentary of a World Cup game (instead of "Eye of the Tiger", mind you, a song I'm pretty sure no one ever listens to voluntarily), you immediately turn rude and aggressive? Kinda sounds like false advertising to me. I was a bartender for a long time and the better way to respond to client requests, especially when they are completely reasonable, is to be polite. On the other hand, our waitress was awesome, the food was relatively good, and I was happy with the beer list. Because they have so many TVs, you are guaranteed a good line of vision from wherever you are sitting. read more

This may be the worst venue in all of Philadelphia. I was planning a benefit for a charity this Halloween and was working with their GM. Little did I know he left the company weeks before my event of which we sold over 50 tickets for already. I get a call 10 days before the event from their new GM Maureen who lets me know that they don't have this on their calendar anywhere and they can't honor the agreement. I let her know this is the only day we can do, it benefits inner city kids in Philadelphia, and b.c of profits alone is not reason enough to cancel an event that was promised. Now we have no venue and an establishment that doesn't give a crap. I am thoroughly disgusted and would advise anyone who doesn't like dealing with crooks and a classless organization to stay away very very away! read more

I used a groupon deal for lunch here today and ordered the chicken strips. I figured for $11.99, they had to be something special. What I discovered was that those stupid enough to go here for lunch will subsidize the "half price deals" at happy hour. For that price, you get 4 smallish chicken strips that are so thin that the coating on both sides together is thicker than the chicken itself. And, no, they do not come with fries or anything else. Nor is the flavor anything special. I should have known better than to eat in a dark dive that has very few tables, and none with regular height chairs. This place is designed for standing room only happy hours. Even the soda was flat. They ought to be ashamed of the prices they charge. read more

OK this is not a place without its warts. Yes it can be a bit bro-tastic on weekend evenings. Yes it can get loud and crowded. But I love this place because it offers good value if you know what to look for. What I love: NFL Sundays - if you have enough foresight to get there early, you have your pick of TV's. And there are lots of them. Wings - Cav's sauce is addictive. Panko chicken sandwich - also addictive. Bartenders - very attentive and they actually want to have a conversation with you rather than throw your food and drinks at you and move on to the next customer. Avoid this place on Friday and Saturday nights. Instead go in on a Sunday afternoon or Thursday evening. read more

I moved here 3 months ago and Cav's was the first place I went to when the movers left my new apartment. From then, until now, it has proved to be a friendly and very accommodating place to relax with friends - especially the staff - whom I consider the same. I have nothing but the highest praise for this business. Sure, it gets busy and loud sometimes, but if you're polite you get great service and food. For those who think because they spent 60 bucks over three hours, had four beers, felt the need to sit for another hour and a half drinking water, and then complain because the bartender wanted to allow paying customers a place at the bar, I say - go home, where obviously the climate is more to your taste. read more

Stopped in here one night with friends before we went to dinner. Pretty much your average sports bar. It was very crowded and there wasn't a seat in the whole place. Just had a couple beers. Didn't have any food, but looking at the menu it looked like your average sports bar food menu. Will definitely come back to enjoy watching some games. read more

OMG the nachos here are just amazing. We ordered them thinking that we'd want a bunch more food but we are so glad that we didn't because it was a HUGE serving. The price was great too! We had come here to watch the Monday Night Football game and I thought it was a good option! It was pretty empty when we first walked in. I think it was a combination of Monday night and the Cowboys/Redskins match up (mind you, this is Eagles Country). But the emptiness was great! They had ample TVs and they played the sound for the game instead of music after we asked them to do so. The drinks were pretty cheap and I love that they have late night food deals! Monday was $5 cheesesteaks (which I opted for instead of a beer) but on other nights they have 50 cent wings and other good deals. This place is a pretty typical dive-y type bar so I would expect anything fancy of it. I hear it's a good place to go for drinks on the weekends and I've had the chance to stop in, but I would say that I stay very long. read more

I had a pretty terrible experience here a few years ago and grudgingly agreed to return here recently for a friend's going away happy hour. While I still disagree with their unbelievably terrible policy of charging for ICE in a drink, Cav's Rittenhouse is a decent place for happy hour. The specials are pretty good - nice discount of drafts - and their draft list is decent and includes some nice local brews (what up PBC Walt Wit). The pretzel bites/pretzel dogs combo is excellent bar food and the wings were nice and saucy. While I most likely won't be a regular, it's no longer on my most hated list. read more

Solid sports bar. There are lots of TVs and two floors of space. They have great Happy Hour specials with half price pub menu and pretty much all drinks with some sort of discount. Cav's is a standard Center City sports bar. There's nothing too unique about it, but it's cozy and the drinks are strong and cheap. TVs are plentiful for watching whatever game catches your fancy. I hear the food is good, though I haven't sampled anything yet. read more

If you are able to rent out the Alumni Room in the back on the 1st floor, I reco looking into it. We go here for Cal Alum games, and this room is a great getaway from the crowds (esp on the lower floor). Decent prices and drink specials, nothing out of the ordinary. read more

I hear this is a better bar to watch the sports games at, but I went here on a Saturday night and my review is based solely on that. It is not a good bar after the games end. Both floors are a little narrow and when we got in at 11 there were already a few sloppy drunks stumbling around. This would be a "bro" bar if you could use any term to describe it. It wasn't very packed but still seemed that way because of the size and the way people were pushing each other around. There wasn't really a dance floor but it seemed like Cavanaughs was trying to create a club atmosphere without the space to dance. Had better expectations since the Cavanaugh's Riverdeck is a lot of fun in the summer, but this place was kind of trashy and could be better. read more

Awesome place to watch games, hang out or have a happy hour. The food is fantastic (try the Chicken Panco -- the best thing on the menu) and they have a number of good draft beers and a nice selection of bottled beers. The owners of this place are the same owners of Riverdeck and the staff is the same as well - all are cool and friendly. read more

What can I say...It's a typical pub. The food is good, nothing to rave about. Enough tv's for sports games. What keeps me going back are their drink specials. You can pretty much find some sort of drink special every day of the week. If you want to go with the primary intention of going to a "sports bar" I would recommend going elsewhere. Needed a place to watch the MNF games while I was in town for work. I was staying at the Palomar down the street and didn't want to trek too far away, since I had a full slate on Tuesday. Picked Cav's based on reviews on Yelp and elsewhere. It was a great, low-key place to enjoy the games. The bartenders are super sweet and friendly (even if they have a Jersey aversion!). I ordered the pierogies and wings with the Cav's special sauce (it was like a mix of buffalo and smokey bbq). Good stuff. I'm not picky, just needed some decent food, a seat, and some tvs. It served its purpose and I had a good time. read more

Great local sports bar with a nice selection of food and drinks. Samantha was working the night I came to meet up with my friends for Monday Night Football. She was cheerful, helpful and observant of any needs any of the patrons had. I wish everyplace had such excellent service. They were crowded, and Samantha was definitely busy, but she still gave the most attentive service to everyone. The drinks were cold and the food was delicious. I had the buffalo chicken wrap and it was massive, I took half of it home. The only complaint I have is that from where I sat I wasn't well positioned to easily see a tv. Even though there were lots of tvs around I think that they were not all well positioned. Aside from that a great local sports bar with good food, good drinks and great service. I actually belive this o be one of the best values for Happy Hour for both food and drinks in the city. A crowded sports bar that wouldn't put the football game on the TV near where we were sitting. Not good. You can get a sports bar on this (low) level at any strip mall in America. Very dissapointted with this place. The bar tender ignored us. Finally got to us- we had 1 wine and a vodka drink. Got the bill. He charged us an extra 2 bucks for ice- for a drink that ice normally comes in. So it was 13 bucks for 1 mixed drink and horrible service. Will not go back!!! read more

Been here a few times! On Wednesdays they have 1/2 price chicken sandwiches. Their chicken cheesesteak is bomb and comes with their cav sauce which is so good. They also have bingo on Wednesday's that starts around 7. If you are not playing, just know its super loud so plan accordingly. read more

Worst sports bar in town. Hard to see the televisions. Smells like a gym at times. Really rowdy crowd. You are better off going elsewhere.
