Went here on a date for a special occasion. Atmosphere (5/5) both inside and outside. Fancy furniture; cool looking bar, all around great. They also have a couple of TVs if you want to catch sports. Drinks (4/5)- small sample size since we only ordered two drinks. The margarita was good but nothing special and I ordered a bourbon drink similar to old fashioned which was also good but not great. Appetizers (5/5)- Parker house rolls, charred octopus and yellowfin tuna were all amazing. The Parker house rolls are warm and fluffy inside and nice and crispy outside served with perfectly soft butter to spread. The charred octopus was tender and complimented perfectly with potatoes and chorizo. The yellowfin tuna is served on top of a fried eggplant which was very unique and complimented the tuna very well. Would order all three again. Entrees (4/5)- butternut squash was on the sweet side which the waiter warned us about so can't complain. We also ordered the dirty pasta which actually didn't live up to the hype. The sauce was lacking flavor and was on the bland side. Pasta in north Italia has better flavored sauce. Would order different entrees next time, probably try the pizza and one of the steak dishes. We found street parking a few blocks away but arrived 4:30pm on a Wednesday. This location is a famous address in Corona Del Mar, as it used to be the location of the one restaurant that John Wayne owned. I often hung out here during a previous incarnation as the Crow Bar. The current owners, (A Restaurant/River Jetty Group) did an amazing job with the remodel. There are luxurious "outdoor" tables, with lots of plants and great lighting, and an interior centered around a bar. The interior tables are dark leather chairs and booths, with dark wood tables. There is also a speakeasy downstairs, with a tiny bar and gorgeous red leather old-school-looking booths and decor. That room can be rented out for group dinners or events. The bartenders are very skilled here and proud of what they do. They have a variety of types of alcohol, bitters, fresh citrus and herbs, and salt/sugars for the rims of drinks. Be sure to check out their ice cubes, custom made with the logo of the restaurant. I would highly recommend this venue and I look forward to coming back to try even more from this delicious menu. Was searching for a cocktail bar to try and CdM happened to cross my path on yelp! I adore this place, it has an intimate atmosphere and GREAT drinks! ***What I ordered: **Them Apples (1000/10): I ordered two of these drinks and wow they were SUPER strong, but SUPER good. I unfortunately don't remember what was in it, but all I know was that if you want the taste of spice, fall, and a hint of sweetness this is perfect. This drink tasted like juice especially after licking the cinnamon-sugared rim! I highly recommend trying this because I think this is part of their seasonal menu! I had high expectations based on pics and reviews and they did not disappoint. The speakeasy style was warm and cozy yet glamorous. we really admired the elegant holiday decorations and love the blue booths. It's a small place so a table near us was having a bday celebration and they were so loud, it was very disruptive to our conversations but what can you do? I got the salmon and it was probably one of the best salmon dishes I've ever had. The skin was cooked so perfectly crispy and the meat was still moist. The creamed corn underneath was a surprisingly delightful complement, it had a mashed potato texture which I really enjoyed. The crunchy haricot verts were perfectly crunchy and the red wine reduction was truly divine, it had a light flavor and didn't overpower the dish. Everything worked so wonderfully together. My friends got the chicken piccata and I didn't try it but they said it was the best they've ever had. Several of us got the apple tart and it was a bit sweet for my taste but you can tell it was fresh and natural with the crust being just the right texture, not too flaky/messy and not hard. We were so excited to try CDM. We had an early reservation 530 , when we arrived, there was only one other couple sitting in one of the booths. All the tables were open and all the booths were open.. they put us in the tiniest table against the wall that resembled a night stand. Not even fit for one person. So we asked for one of the booths or another table . The girl that sat us went back to the hostess, and they started chatting and whispering like school girls. It was really embarrassing. They said the only thing they had was an outside table that is literally just a canopy over there parking lot . It was hot and so humid without fans or ventilation whatsoever . We asked if we could please have a table inside. They said there are no tables available . We asked could we please sit at the bar ? Again, this time there were three girls whispering at the hostess desk . The reply was "you can sit at the bar until 645" We decided to make the best of it, so we sat down at the bar. ( I felt like Goldilocks and the three Bears , one table was too small. One table was too hot and the bar seem to be just, ok.) thank goodness. We were pleasantly surprised by the graciousness of our bartender . I wish I could remember her name. She was attentive and explained the menu, gave us wonderful suggestions . We started with one of our favorite bottles of Frank family Chardonnay, and the beautifully prepared, charred octopus with sweet tomatoes, chorizo, potatoes, and an aïoli . Perfection! We decided on the salmon with snap peas, tomatoes, and coconut rice ... and we added the barbecued, roasted rainbow carrots. This meal was divine. We decided that this meal made up for the lack of hospitality that we received originally when we came into an almost empty restaurant. There were still empty tables when we left. I will tell you this , if we do come back, it will be for that delicious charred octopus dish. They have valet parking in the back with some of the outside tables. ( we were quite lucky and found a parking spot on the street close to the restaurant) Their corkage fee is $30 and our bartender told us that they only receive service dogs at the table. read more

Owners from the A Restaurant opened CdM Restaurant a few years ago and have been a favorite for many CDM locals. I used to come by their speakeasy bar downstairs to visit my favorite OC bartender, Ravin. However, he left to pursue his career elsewhere and I've yet to find a bar I continue to attend. Atmosphere (3/5): Busy on a Sunday, but I was able to snag a high table without waiting. There were some patio tables available but we elected to sit indoors. The high table was a bit of an awkward seating arrangement as other guest tables were so close to us that they could touch our items. There was a beautiful centered bar and bartenders were busy creating drinks. There were painted black brick walls that probably were not conducive to good audio. Echos from other conversations made it difficult to hear my guest. I was a bit confused of cDM's interior design theme as there was also a tv showing football on top of the bar area. Food (3.5-4/5): The variety food menu selection was fair. There were several apps and main entrees. Their spirit/wine menu was very extensive. Pulpo-4/5. Perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Dirty Pasta 3/5. I wished it was pulled Duck and not like grounded beef. Tuna Tartare 3/5. Bit heavy masking on the tuna and bread. Drinks (4/5): There are a good selection of cocktails. First time coming to this restaurant and Our server was very attentive with getting us our drinks and checking in on us multiple times. Water was getting refilled frequently. We tried the duck pate and it was very good. Server recommended the chicken picatta and it was very delicious. Very tender and flavorful. My partner ordered the cacio e Pepe and he also enjoyed it. Okay, do not sleep on CDM restaurant! I've had this restaurant on my list for a few years now, and I can't believe it took me this long to dine here. To start, the ambiance in this restaurant is gorgeous. Floor to ceiling is absolutely stunning. There are colorful velvet chairs, beautiful designs, and the most breathtaking bar that sits right in the middle of this small, intimate space. Immediately it feels like you have been transported to somewhere else, and I couldn't get enough of it. Dining here was an experience, and I'm not exaggerating when I say we were here for hours. We got drinks off the drink menu, and went with our waiters recommendation of the cocktail of the day. By the way, our waiter was excellent! He was Italian and gave us great recommendations of food and drinks we should order that evening. For food we started with the tuna eggplant tostadas which were incredible! I've never had anything like it! We also got the octopus which was incredible as well. For dinner we got the Ciopinio and the steak, and both were perfection. The portions were also extremely sizable and I had to take a majority of my meal to go, which was an absolute treat for the following day! Overall I had a wonderful experience here. Everything we ate and drank was 12/10, super fresh, high quality, large portions. i was shocked because im used to the garbage they service at la restaurants. we were so full and happy. Hands down has to be one of my favorite restaurants in the area! Came here for dinner with my boyfriend last night and walking in we loved the ambiance. Everyone that greeted us was friendly too. Once we got seated we got served by Grayson. I can't begin to say enough good things about him. We had questions about the different cocktails and dishes and he answered all of our questions. Also gave us the best recommendations for our meals which did not disappoint. You can tell he really is passionate about his job! His service really gave us an amazing dining experience. We started off with cocktails of course and got their octopus as an app. My boyfriend did not like octopus prior to trying it here and absolutely loved it!! The octopus is a 10/10 and a must get!! We did valet - reasonably priced ($7) We got there and our table wasn't ready, but the hostess was apologetic & let us sit in the bar area while we waited for our booth. We had the margarita. Nice and spicy! We finally were seated about 15 min later & they made it up for the wait. We had a cute booth in the corner. Our server Luis was wonderful. We had the ribeye steak - delicious. Asked for medium but it was medium well, but it was ok cause it was great. The mac & cheese was delicious & had a nice spicy kick too. And the spinach gnocchi was a 10/10. The vibe was cute & dim. Oooo this place makes great food and drinks! It was a bit of a struggle between 4-5 stars. 4.5 is where I would have landed this establishment. First off, kudos to the bartender who attempted to make a custom drink I requested. They could have easily said no to my request which was reasonably so. However, bartender insisted to try on the first go and got pretty close to a New York Sour. Love the service and spirit of the staff here. Makes a difference in regard to the overall dining experience. We ordered quite a few dishes to share with the table: Eggplant Yellowtail Tartare, a Charcuterie Board, Octopus, Gnocchi, Sausage Pizza, and to top it off with a Apple Tart w/ Vanilla Ice cream. We enjoyed the meal and experienced. While the octopus was slightly over done, it's still a tasty dish. Minor note for the establishment if they are reading this. The food was delicious! I don't eat meat and they were very accommodating. They put the meat on the side for my friends to enjoy. Our server, Ryan, was excellent. Absolutely do not let the simplified menu fool you! They do things right here. The bread Parker Rolls) and butter is amazing and the Caesar salad is the best I have had. Skirt Steak?! Came here Sunday night for dinner. Made reservations and they seated up right away. Inside dinning area is fairly small. I enjoyed the ambience, but glad we sat inside. The outdoor patio wasn't anything special. There is a speakeasy downstairs, sadly, it was closed for a private event. Now the food, I really enjoyed everything we ordered! Grilled Caesar 5/5- I love a crisp Caesar salad and this one was great. Creamy dressing, the grilled flavor is a nice touch and the hearts of palm was unique. Charred Octopus 4/5- the octopus itself was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. This dish was a bit heavy with the potatoes and chorizo. 1855 fillet mignon 5/5- YUM. Loved the spinach gnocchi! Basically licked the plate clean, peppercorn sauce was great. Chicken Piccata 5/5- I don't see this dish often, so we decided to order. Great dish, must love capers. Potato purée was delightful. Service was great, I'd love to come back and check out the specialty cocktail speakeasy. this is specifically for under CDM speakeasy. we came out for our friend's birthday and honestly at first glance i wasn't feeling the vibe because i was trying to turn up lol. also before coming here i tried looking up reviews and stuff about it but couldn't really find anything so we had no idea what to expect. but it ended up being such a great time and we can't wait to come back. we were seated and greeted by Brandon informing us that the entire drink menu was curated by him, and that he can make whatever drink we want outside of it. i barely took photos of the drinks which i regret because we just having a good time. i got the gin & toast which was really good. i got a whiff of the toast every time i took a sip which was a cool concept. we also tried a coconut mojito and barnum cocktail which were both amazing! to top it all off, there's a free photobooth with unlimited pics! we def took advantage of it and had so much fun. they post the strips on the ceiling if you wanna leave one with them. we got lucky, apparently this speakeasy is usually booked with private events. it's a small area but definitely gave off the textbook speakeasy vibe-- dark, small, intimate. big shoutout to Brandon for making our night/our friend's bday memorable! he is incredibly knowledgeable about alcohol/mixed drinks so we learned a lot. the drinks here are so intricate and made intentionally. we like drinking, but are not Connoisseurs by any means so it was a great experience. read more

The food was excellent, but beware the menu is seasonal. I wanted something that was no longer offered. All good though. We started with the octopus and spinach salad. Our drinks took a bit longer, but mixologist perfection sometimes does, so all good. The drinks were worth the wait... I had the Blood Orange Sour and my love had the margarita. Our second course was the dirty pasta which has ground duck--excellent! And, our main entrees were skirt steak and snapper. His snapper was a bit salty, but no biggie my skirt steak was perfect Rated this place 4 stars because outdoor patio is kinda blah. I really love the vibe here - plenty patio seating to handle overflow. It can be romantic, business, family or just causal hangout with friends. It's the on the dark side too, so please forgive me for the lack of pictures since I didn't want to be that guy - with the annoying blinding flash, etc. Charred octopus - Wonderfully burnt, could be a little crispier in my opinion but still amazing with wonderful spices and flavors. Boneless ribeye - No constructive criticism here - they know what they're doing and prepare steaks how you ask them to be prepared. Service attentive but they also leave you alone. Every single dish was so delicious. Loved the octopus appetizer. Cacio e pepe was so good, and all of their pasta is handmade there!!!!! THE BROCCOLINI SIDE IS A MUST!!!!! Outstanding quality of entrees and service here at CDM Restaurant. It's been on my list to check out for a while, and my only regret is that I didn't visit sooner. My husband ordered the filet with Gnocchi, and every bite was incredible, from beginning to end he told me. I had a few bites and had to agree, though I'm not much for steak. I had the chicken piccata, since it's a unique dish that is hard to find. I loved it. And the side of mashed potatoes and little tomato salad was incredible. It was so much chicken I couldn't finish it, so my husband has some as well. It's definitely enough to share. We almost ordered the chocolate dessert (looked like maybe a pie or a cake with a side of ice cream). But we wanted to save dessert for later. By far our number one place to go to for our Date night! We found this sophisticated eatery by surprise and we have always been back since. We came here last month on our 17 anniversary (hubby and I ) and it's definitely a memorable one. The ambiance is elegant & chic love love the music they always play classy enough for the whole family or just perfect for date night. The entire team from the host to the waitress and kitchen crew always work in sync and well organized collaboration. I must say tho our Favorite to go to person here is Mia, she's super inviting and makes you feel exclusive. Her attentiveness and personality makes our visit a delightful experience hence why we always look for her as soon as we arrive :). Now about the food where to start ? The Meat and cheese board is a mouth watery adventure to get your taste buds started, the avocado hummus is also a great starter super fresh and all tasty love it !. And of course when it comes to entrees is super hard to decide everything here is tasty and well priced. Last time we ordered 1855 Filet Mignon and it was superb with the chanterelle mushrooms it was just epic , accompanied with a side of their house made Mac and cheese that I just want to re order after it's finished :). Is a place that I pass a few times because my friend lives two blocks aways from there and tried to get get in twice, One during summer and one more last Sunday and they never ever let us get in, they always said that is a place that just get reservations even though the have sits at the bar, in the back yard and some tables open; we always are two or three people and they always tell me the same thing. Is a very disrespectful place because they don't seem to get people that they don't look white, every-time I have notice these Place they always have one type of customers. Chicken piccata was breaded and therefore heavier with fat than I prefer. Very strong on capers. The cacio et pepe was also loaded with fat. The Caesar salad had Tabasco in it instead of black pepper which left a weird tingling taste on the tongue. The Cherry tomatoes with the chicken were delicious. The drinks were superlative!
