While vacationing in California, this restaurant was on our must try list. The restaurant is located in a really beautiful spot by the marina in Newport. The inside is elegant and charming. We started with the Wood Fire Octopus - 10/10. It was outstanding. So flavorful! The potatoes and shishito peppers were a nice touch. For my entree I had the Fish and Chips - 10/10. This was delightful. It was paired with fries, peas, and a curry remoulade - omg sooo good! I loved the peas. For dessert we had the chocolate budino - this was a hazelnut streusel paired with some caramelized bananas. This was also a 10/10 - so delicious. Our waitress was wonderful! She gave us some great recommendations and was very friendly. Overall, we had a lovely dinning experience! Everything was exceptional! A note for parents: they had a high chair and a kids menu. The place was kid friendly. I appreciate this so much!

I don't even know how to review this place. It was by far the best dining experience I've ever had in Orange County. It felt like walking into a whimsical storybook with the floral wallpaper, moody paint colors and gold fixtures. The cocktails were an elevated version of the classics. The food was unlike anything I've experienced- the porchetta melted in your mouth, the bucatini tasted like something a nonna would make, and the bread was an ultimate comfort food. The flavors, texture, and presentation were 10/10. Our server was also friendly, responsive and thorough. What an amazing experience!

Tried this nice restaurant in Newport Beach. Service was great, as they were flexible and allowed us to move up our reservation to meet our scheduling needs. They also accommodated us well with a baby dining with us, giving us a high chair and finding a place to store our stroller, so that was very much appreciated! The ambiance was great. Classy and upscale and not giving off too trendy of a vibe. We certainly enjoyed the decor and how the restaurant was set up. We started with the Wood Fired Octopus (9/10) for our appetizer and it set a nice tone for the rest of the meal. Octopus was cooked to perfection, not too chewy, but with a good texture and bite. The potatoes, sofritos, chorizo and sauce were a fine compliment to the dish. For the main entree, I ordered the porchetta (7/10). It was cooked well, over polenta and was pretty good. The porchetta had a bit more fat than I would normally like, but the pork and polenta was very flavorful and I enjoyed the dish. I also ordered The Ritual Cocktail (9/10), it was very good, with the perfect balance between the bourbon, some sweetness and smokiness. Very well crafted cocktail. Dessert was fantastic as well (8/10). The 2 desserts we got were different but so good. Wish they had some ice cream with them to get them to the 10/10 category, but solid desserts, nonetheless. Overall, very impressed with the restaurant, service and food. Would highly recommend and would love to come back and try other items on their menu!

My husband actually came across this spot on OpenTable or Resy and made a reservation for us to check it out--and I'm really glad he did. We started with the Caesar salad, which sounded unique with kale and capers mixed with romaine. It did not disappoint--my husband took the first bite and immediately loved it. For mains, we ordered the Fable Burger and the 12-hour Kurobuta porchetta. The burger was next level, especially with the addition of pork belly--it added so much flavor and made it stand out from a typical burger. The porchetta was also a hit: perfectly cooked, tender, and paired so well with the polenta. We ordered the kids cheese pizza for our toddler and we were surprised how big it was. Definitely worth the price! Honestly, we loved everything we ordered and enjoyed every single bite. Service was fantastic as well--friendly and attentive throughout our visit. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the food took a while to come out. It wasn't a dealbreaker, but definitely noticeable. Overall, a great dining experience and definitely worth trying!

A solid American restaurant. Bree our server was wonderful! We came for dinner and enjoyed every dish we ordered. The ingredients were fresh, well-cooked, and beautifully plated. I'm saving this as a place to come back to. I especially enjoyed the butter that came with the brown bread; it's creamy, and you can taste the texture and flavor of the salt flakes inside. Their coffee and orange juice are also solid.

It was my first time dining at Fable & Spirit, and we chose it for our anniversary. While the hostess who greeted and seated us felt a bit uninviting, I didn't let that set the tone for the evening--and I'm glad I didn't. Tyler was our server and he was phenomenal. He walked us through the menu with enthusiasm and offered recommendations. What impressed me most was how involved the GM, Alejandro, was throughout the night. Both he and Tyler checked in on us multiple times, making sure we were enjoying our experience and celebrating our anniversary well. Their hospitality truly elevated the night. The ambience is warm and intimate, and I always appreciate an open‑kitchen concept--it adds such a lively, connected energy to the space. The food and cocktails were absolutely delicious. What we ordered: -Crudo: Fresh, bright, and perfectly paired with the wasabi aioli and taro chips. -Bone Marrow: Rich and decadent, especially with the caramelized onions. -Pork Belly: My favorite dish of the night--perfectly tender and beautifully complemented by the couscous. Bucatini: Creamy and packed with flavor from the clams and bacon. Cocktails: I tried the Donnelly Visa and Late Night Conversations--both were incredible. Dessert: The lemon bread pudding was the ideal finale, especially alongside the late night conversations cocktail. I can't wait to come back for dinner again--and I'm already eyeing their brunch menu. A solid 10/10. Thank you, Tyler and Alejandro, for making our anniversary so memorable.

Traveled to this place after hearing it was comparable to a Michelin star Restaurant. The menu looked amazing, I started off with their version of an old fashioned (Ritual) after looking at the bourbons they had available and what they priced them at, all pretty much overpriced. The old fashioned I selected used buffalo trace which sells for $23 a bottle and the drink was $19, great mart up for them. The appetizer was Octopus, which was just ok, the sauce was the star of the plate, my entree was a braised short rib, which was probably braised chuck roast. The server was great, service was fast, however some of the people next to me were super snobbish, complaining about the smoke coming from my drink super rude. Dining table had a nice view of the city.

Shakshuka, pork belly BLT and truffle fries!

My husband and I sat out on the patio with our small dog. The staff was friendly and even offered a water bowl for our dog. It was nice to sit outside and people watch, and the food was delicious!

My husband and I just went to Fable and Spirit for the third time. We started with the Guinness brown bread as we have every time. The fresh bread with the European butter is melt in your mouth good. For dinner, my husband ordered the halibut, which is what I ordered on our previous visit. It's a really nice meal with excellent flavors and it won't leave you overly stuffed. Meanwhile, I tried the chicken confit, which was an enormous meal and I brought half of it home. The chicken is laid on top of yummy brussel sprouts and Spanish chorizo. On our other visits we tried the short ribs and a couple of brunch items, including an omelet and a pancake dish. I would recommend coming here for dinner rather than brunch because it has a nice dark and vibey atmosphere inside. Perfect for a nice romantic dinner. There's also a great wine menu and when I picked a unique wine off the menu our friendly server offered me a sample before I finalized my order. I appreciated that! Next time we plan on sharing some of their small plates.

Good, but not amazing Brown bread with salted butter 4/5 Bread was quite dense, could have been warmer. Butter was great with a sweet and salty finish Fried chicken sandwich 3.5/5 Good, but I've had better. Could have been juicier, batter was crispy and chicken was plentiful. Gochujang slaw was fine, could be a bit bri Crispy edged sourdough pancakes 3.5/5 Wish it was heavier on the sourdough flavor, orange zest butter was a nice touch with the blueberry compote. Was expecting more crisp given the name Loco moko 3/5 Gravy was heavy on the wine ?? A darker gravy, less buttery. Rice was cooked fine and egg was crispy. Service Started off strong, kind of dwindled a bit. Had to ask someone else for help because our server was MIA.

First time diners. Had an early reservation and the place was nearly empty when we arrived, and quiet. Thirty minutes later the place was packed and the volume grew accordingly. We started with cocktails and the marrow bone appetizer, which comes with two bread slices, grilled onions, a small salad, and some sea salt. I recommend skipping adding sea salt as the bread was already salty, but definitely add a bit of grilled onions. The salad was good on its own; was too much on the toast. We ordered lamb chops and the fable burger. The lamb chops were good but the burger was delicious. It came with grilled onions, pork belly, and a Dijon aioli sauce which was the bomb!! Excellent truffle fries too! I give it a rating of 4 as the chef is a bit heavy handed with salt. Lighten it up and I'd give a 5! Also, as much as I appreciate water refills, this was too much. I'd take a sip or two and they were back refilling my glass. Oh, and Chad, our server was excellent. Just the right amount of attention and great wine knowledge!

Everything was delicious at F&S! I ordered the halibut, not only was it a beautiful piece of art, but tasted very fresh and had a lot of flavor. My mom had the octopus and thought it was the best octopus she's ever tasted. We had someone order fish and chips at the table... They would've liked the regular tartar sauce instead of the curry aïoli sauce. Other than that, everything was delicious. I would've loved to see a more chocolatey dessert - we had the banana bread pudding, which was very good. Overall 10 out of 10. We came in early for dinner around 4:30. I think that is the move as it is a lot quieter.

Nice spot for dinner with attentive service and lovely decor. Easy to reserve on Resy and there's a bar section too, the front check-in area is tight but we were seated promptly for our reservation. The Favorites: Guinness bread, the butter was also sooo good on the hot bread and the octopus was nice and tender. We also ordered the cauliflower and bucatini and the bucatini wasn't as flavorful as we were expecting. Noodles were good but something was missing, although it wasn't a bad bite. For dessert the blueberry bread pudding we got was delightful. Street parking and paid parking lots nearby.

I appreciated that the quesadilla was super cheesy, it was a great size too and was perfect as an entree with the beans and rice. I was very happy with the flavor of the beans, you could tell they were cooked with a lot of love! The tacos were delicious as well, the roasted salsa was slightly smoky with a good jalapeño flavor, the meat was tender, and the tortillas had a great chew. The churros are not to be underestimated- they were thick and fluffy, and the dipping sauces were perfect accompaniments. The flan was the super star of the whole night for me- genuinely the most perfect, custardy, unctuous flan I've ever had. The vanilla bean specks throughout gave it such flavor, there wasn't a ton of syrup but it honestly did not need it. There is absolutely nothing that could have improved that flan. Despite booking a 5:45 PM reservation and specifically requesting a nice table for the occasion, we were seated at a terrible spot. The service was shockingly slow throughout the night. We would have loved to get dessert to salvage the evening, but we simply couldn't risk waiting another hour just to get served. It's a fun spot to grab a drink for the ambiance, but as a full meal, it leaves a lot to be desired. The food itself is okay--the quesa birria tacos have decent flavor and the carne asada comes with a nice char--but given the steep prices, you expect way better execution and more generous portions. Paying high-end money for pretty standard street food staples dressed up on nice plateware just feels overpriced. Service was fine enough, nothing to complain about, but the value just isn't there for what they're charging.
