    Wood fired octopus
    Mike H.

Tried this nice restaurant in Newport Beach. Service was great, as they were flexible and allowed us to move up our reservation to meet our scheduling needs. They also accommodated us well with a baby dining with us, giving us a high chair and finding a place to store our stroller, so that was very much appreciated! The ambiance was great. Classy and upscale and not giving off too trendy of a vibe. We certainly enjoyed the decor and how the restaurant was set up. We started with the Wood Fired Octopus (9/10) for our appetizer and it set a nice tone for the rest of the meal. Octopus was cooked to perfection, not too chewy, but with a good texture and bite. The potatoes, sofritos, chorizo and sauce were a fine compliment to the dish. For the main entree, I ordered the porchetta (7/10). It was cooked well, over polenta and was pretty good. The porchetta had a bit more fat than I would normally like, but the pork and polenta was very flavorful and I enjoyed the dish. I also ordered The Ritual Cocktail (9/10), it was very good, with the perfect balance between the bourbon, some sweetness and smokiness. Very well crafted cocktail. Dessert was fantastic as well (8/10). The 2 desserts we got were different but so good. Wish they had some ice cream with them to get them to the 10/10 category, but solid desserts, nonetheless. Overall, very impressed with the restaurant, service and food. Would highly recommend and would love to come back and try other items on their menu!

Traveled to this place after hearing it was comparable to a Michelin star Restaurant. The menu looked amazing, I started off with their version of an old fashioned (Ritual) after looking at the bourbons they had available and what they priced them at, all pretty much overpriced. The old fashioned I selected used buffalo trace which sells for $23 a bottle and the drink was $19, great mart up for them. The appetizer was Octopus, which was just ok, the sauce was the star of the plate, my entree was a braised short rib, which was probably braised chuck roast. The server was great, service was fast, however some of the people next to me were super snobbish, complaining about the smoke coming from my drink super rude. Dining table had a nice view of the city.

My husband actually came across this spot on OpenTable or Resy and made a reservation for us to check it out--and I'm really glad he did. We started with the Caesar salad, which sounded unique with kale and capers mixed with romaine. It did not disappoint--my husband took the first bite and immediately loved it. For mains, we ordered the Fable Burger and the 12-hour Kurobuta porchetta. The burger was next level, especially with the addition of pork belly--it added so much flavor and made it stand out from a typical burger. The porchetta was also a hit: perfectly cooked, tender, and paired so well with the polenta. We ordered the kids cheese pizza for our toddler and we were surprised how big it was. Definitely worth the price! Honestly, we loved everything we ordered and enjoyed every single bite. Service was fantastic as well--friendly and attentive throughout our visit. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the food took a while to come out. It wasn't a dealbreaker, but definitely noticeable. Overall, a great dining experience and definitely worth trying!

It was my first time dining at Fable & Spirit, and we chose it for our anniversary. While the hostess who greeted and seated us felt a bit uninviting, I didn't let that set the tone for the evening--and I'm glad I didn't. Tyler was our server and he was phenomenal. He walked us through the menu with enthusiasm and offered recommendations. What impressed me most was how involved the GM, Alejandro, was throughout the night. Both he and Tyler checked in on us multiple times, making sure we were enjoying our experience and celebrating our anniversary well. Their hospitality truly elevated the night. The ambience is warm and intimate, and I always appreciate an open‑kitchen concept--it adds such a lively, connected energy to the space. The food and cocktails were absolutely delicious. What we ordered: -Crudo: Fresh, bright, and perfectly paired with the wasabi aioli and taro chips. -Bone Marrow: Rich and decadent, especially with the caramelized onions. -Pork Belly: My favorite dish of the night--perfectly tender and beautifully complemented by the couscous. Bucatini: Creamy and packed with flavor from the clams and bacon. Cocktails: I tried the Donnelly Visa and Late Night Conversations--both were incredible. Dessert: The lemon bread pudding was the ideal finale, especially alongside the late night conversations cocktail. I can't wait to come back for dinner again--and I'm already eyeing their brunch menu. A solid 10/10. Thank you, Tyler and Alejandro, for making our anniversary so memorable.

My husband and I just went to Fable and Spirit for the third time. We started with the Guinness brown bread as we have every time. The fresh bread with the European butter is melt in your mouth good. For dinner, my husband ordered the halibut, which is what I ordered on our previous visit. It's a really nice meal with excellent flavors and it won't leave you overly stuffed. Meanwhile, I tried the chicken confit, which was an enormous meal and I brought half of it home. The chicken is laid on top of yummy brussel sprouts and Spanish chorizo. On our other visits we tried the short ribs and a couple of brunch items, including an omelet and a pancake dish. I would recommend coming here for dinner rather than brunch because it has a nice dark and vibey atmosphere inside. Perfect for a nice romantic dinner. There's also a great wine menu and when I picked a unique wine off the menu our friendly server offered me a sample before I finalized my order. I appreciated that! Next time we plan on sharing some of their small plates.

First time diners. Had an early reservation and the place was nearly empty when we arrived, and quiet. Thirty minutes later the place was packed and the volume grew accordingly. We started with cocktails and the marrow bone appetizer, which comes with two bread slices, grilled onions, a small salad, and some sea salt. I recommend skipping adding sea salt as the bread was already salty, but definitely add a bit of grilled onions. The salad was good on its own; was too much on the toast. We ordered lamb chops and the fable burger. The lamb chops were good but the burger was delicious. It came with grilled onions, pork belly, and a Dijon aioli sauce which was the bomb!! Excellent truffle fries too! I give it a rating of 4 as the chef is a bit heavy handed with salt. Lighten it up and I'd give a 5! Also, as much as I appreciate water refills, this was too much. I'd take a sip or two and they were back refilling my glass. Oh, and Chad, our server was excellent. Just the right amount of attention and great wine knowledge!

Great service, excellent food and great ambiance too. Highly recommend this restaurant. Look forward to going back again.

Good, but not amazing Brown bread with salted butter 4/5 Bread was quite dense, could have been warmer. Butter was great with a sweet and salty finish Fried chicken sandwich 3.5/5 Good, but I've had better. Could have been juicier, batter was crispy and chicken was plentiful. Gochujang slaw was fine, could be a bit bri Crispy edged sourdough pancakes 3.5/5 Wish it was heavier on the sourdough flavor, orange zest butter was a nice touch with the blueberry compote. Was expecting more crisp given the name Loco moko 3/5 Gravy was heavy on the wine ?? A darker gravy, less buttery. Rice was cooked fine and egg was crispy. Service Started off strong, kind of dwindled a bit. Had to ask someone else for help because our server was MIA.

The food here is never gonna let you down. I've had their brunch, and I have had their dinner. Both have been such a great experience, with quality meals. it's a perfect date spot, weather for brunch or for dinner, the patio has warmers. The inside is such a vibe, and has a great bar. You can even bring your pup with you, if you would like to eat outside. They are very puppy friendly, they bring him a water and everything. Service has always been amazing, we've had the same servers a few times, and they are the kindest and most professional people. This is by far, my favorite place to eat whenever i'm in Newport.

Nice spot for dinner with attentive service and lovely decor. Easy to reserve on Resy and there's a bar section too, the front check-in area is tight but we were seated promptly for our reservation. The Favorites: Guinness bread, the butter was also sooo good on the hot bread and the octopus was nice and tender. We also ordered the cauliflower and bucatini and the bucatini wasn't as flavorful as we were expecting. Noodles were good but something was missing, although it wasn't a bad bite. For dessert the blueberry bread pudding we got was delightful. Street parking and paid parking lots nearby.

Stunning venue with an upscale ambiance. Super chic and tastefully decorated. If you've been to Wally's in LA this place is its identical twin. Wide wine selections and also tasty cocktails if you just want a fruity drink. They're only open for dinner but on weekends they do offer a brunch menu. Suggest you try both. Also several outdoor seating areas and very pet friendly. Tried a few small plates and holiday cocktail before heading over to watch a classic Christmas movie at Lido theater. Also tried brunch last weekend and most definitely will be coming back again. Here's what we tried over the two days: 1. Crispy Chicken Sandwich: chicken patty seasoned deliciously with the Korean Gochujang aioli seasoning (may be biased because I'm Korean) and pickled Serrano slaw m. Comes with a side of truffles fries......yummmy. Please order. 2. Kona Kampachi Crudo: yellowtail fresh from Kona island seasoned with diced pole tomatoes, crispy taro, Hawaiian sea salt and topped with the amazing yuzu wasabi aioli (latter just made the dish). Pretty light so perfect for appetizer. Highly recommend. 3. Blueberry Meyer Lemon Brioche Bread Pudding: blueberry compote with crème anglaise. Wasn't bad but nothing exceptional. 4. Rabbit Fricassee: Canadian hare (dark meat) cooked to perfection. Super tender and not gamey. Served on top of a potato puree (tastefully done) and baby turnips and wild mushroom. Taste like turkey honestly. Very good. But my mind kept playing tricks on me with thoughts of the cute little bunnies in my neighborhood. 5. Wood fired octopus: super tender and chewy octopus. Seasoned lightly with sofrito and chorizo, shishito peopers, and smoked finger potatoes. Overall spectacular place and exquisite food. Definitely a must if you're in Oc Coming back soon for sure

Service was phenomenal and I cant say enough about the atmosphere. The drinks were also made very well, and they charge accordingly for a proper cocktail (so no deal here) The food execution was interesting. Plating was outstanding. The food flavor itself was average at best. Overall a really cute place to have dinner with friends and family, definately come here for a drink. Dealers choice on dinner itself, though i loved the booth.

Monkfish. carrots as a gift from the kitchen.

Third time dining with fable and spirit. I can't get over not just the food but the service. Every time I visit they treat me so well. Everything from the rabbit to the couscous was on point. Very quick to notice small details even with a full house such as water refills, table resetting and check ins. Chad was nice enough to bring out a couple gifts from the kitchen. He has great hospitality and is very welcoming and polite. One of my favorite restaurants I highly recommend. Perfect for any occasion. Good cooking and great hospitality.

Advertised live dj on sundays when we made reservations and there was no live music. Food is overall bland as hell, steak was chewy and dry and unsalted it seems. Chicken and waffles board was probably the worst chicken and waffles I've had, and all the sides that came with it seemed random as hell. We were excited to try a newish brunch spot out and to get a bottle of champagne for mimosas. Little did we know, that the mimosa would be the best part of the meal. This spot replaced a super crappy brunch buffet, that was one of the saddest buffets I've ever been to. Saw that they opened a new concept and saw that they advertised live DJs on sundays for brunch. So we decided to try it. We sat down and ordered the chicken and waffles platter and steak and salad plate. The chicken and waffle plate was really not that good, not a single item on the platter was good. Waffles, you can tell they tried to make it fancy, but just tasted weird and dry. The syrup, looks like they make in house also, not sweet enough and bland. The chicken was the least bland item out of everything, but it's not worth it at all. The steak was one of the chewiest, dry steaks I've had in a while also under seasoned, maybe even no salt. The chicken platter also had random items on it, that made no sense. Random sprigs of rosemary, marshmallow amongst other items. Nothing seemed to gel and it looked like they were just trying to fill the space with easy things. The mimosas that came with the chicken and waffles platter was the star of our meal. Honestly, I'd say it's hard to make food taste this bland and whatevers. With what they are charging, the steak shouldn't be dry and chewy, let alone not seasoned. Everything was under seasoned like we were in a cardiatric ward in the hospital. You can make better food following any recipe on YouTube. 2 stars for the mimosa and the server was very friendly, service wasn't anything to write home about though. Not busy at all, and a lot of workers just standing around. We didn't get checked on much throughout the meal. Oh and the valet was free at least.
