Came for the vibes stayed for the pizza. Service was quick, our server took our drink and pizza order right when we got in. The pizza took some time before it came out, but my god was it delicious. The pizza was unique and tasty. The crust had a nice texture when chewing and held together well.

Had to take some back entrance to this speakeasy since it is behind a pizza shop. The drinks were good, but nothing amazing. The ambiance was pretty cool. Not a huge space, but was lucky to get a spot at the bar. I enjoyed my experience, but would probably go to other speakeasys since I wasn't in love with the drinks.

Speakeasy located near the parking lot behind Pitfire Pizza. It's a dimly intimate space with a hustling/bustling atmosphere. Surprisingly loud for a speakeasy with limited seating inside and outside. When I think Speakeasy, I think crafted drinks. To my disappointment the cocktails were subpar. Perfect Paloma - I had high expectations of this because of the name "perfect". It was an average tasting Paloma with a very feint grapefruit flavor from the Fever Tree Grapefruit soda they use. Far from feeling like a crafted drink, and tasted a bit watered down. Green Tea Whisky Sour - Tasted sorta like a sherbet float because of the egg white texture and sweet/sour notes. I didn't taste the green tea at all. There's a lot of carb options to complement your drinking pleasure - pasta, pizzas, breads galore. We didn't try the food but will definitely try if we ever come back. Service was friendly and attentive enough despite the busy crowd.

Such a fun place to go to! The drinks are well priced and delish. The pizza and wings are also pretty yummy.

The chopped salad was delicious! The chicken pesto pizza was delicious! The crust was perfection! The bartender was really creative and my mezcal old fashioned was really good! The decor is mid-century modern, with retro signs, very cool dive bar. Definitely come here for the vibe. You won't be disappointed.

Great bar comfort food with epic drinks. It's one of the better speak easy bars. The drinks are phenomenal and the service is exceptional. I love the sign "sip down and stay humble." The staff and vibe is mellow and humble. Love it.

First time trying pie society and it did not disappoint! It's right behind Pit Fire pizza building with a bright sign. The place is small but pretty roomy for small groups with a bar and has a cool eclectic vibe. The pizza was sooo good and tastes 100% fresh and authentic. Like the crust, cheese and that sauce, ugh, you just have to try for yourself! The cocktails are carefully crafted and also very good. Overall it's a nice little spot to check out and enjoy if you're ever in Costa Mesa and craving a delicious pizza and cocktail.

I absolutely love this little speakeasy. Just had my company Christmas party here and it was perfect. I used to be in the industry and I love the team's cocktail knowledge and execution. They are always so so nice. We always have a great experience here.

Really cool spot! We couldn't find the entrance at first but the ambiance was cool and the drinks were good. A pretty small spot but service was good!

For a "speakeasy", it was more of a speak loudly...it was a busy and loud night. We went on a Saturday night around 9pm and it was CROWDED. Also sticky. They do not limit the amount of people coming in like other speakeasy's, so the crowd, noise and overall feel was very dive bar-like. Luckily we found a table with enough stools for a group of 4 and went up to the bar to order since it didn't seem like there was any table service... But it did take us a while to get situated in this space, as in -- find seating, figure out if theres a menu and where we can get one, if there is table service and so on. Drinks did not impress us either. No draft beers, only cans. But we do want to come back and try the pizza from the adjoining space since that did look good.....and they have beers on tap. If we could have ordered pizzas while at pie society,, we wouldn't have known since no staff informed us. Tldr: not great for big parties, there is a parking lot, and it gets busy since there is no limit to capacity or reservation. I would not categorize this as a speakeasy, only maybe on a day where capacity is at 10 and not 40 in a small space like here. If you just want a nice space for pizza and beers, skip this place and just make the stop at pit fire next door.

Ask the Community - Pie Society

    Is it kids friendly?

Absolutely! You can find our kids menu online- we do pizza making parties too!

Is this place no longer in business? I was excited to go, but could not find it for the life of me. Then I called and the number was no longer operating?

I just passed there last week and they were open! There's a speakeasy and the restaurant. Their number listed on google was in service for me but they don't open until 5 pm!

How is the outdoor seating? I only see 5 pictures on here, is that how small the space is?

Pie Society has a small patio on the side of the building, and Pitfire Pizza (the attached restaurant) has another patio in the front that's a lot bigger.

Are reservations necessary and how do we book them?? I tried calling but I got a wrong answer.

Nope.. just walk in.. and then sit down

Do you have to be 21+ to enter?

Yes, this is a 21+ establishment. However, you can be under 21 and enter the Pitfire Pizza that's attached to it.

Does the food happy hour change daily? What are the specials or is there a menu you can post?

Do they have happy hour and if so details?

Hi! Yes we do, all night on Monday 5pm-Close and then Tuesday-Thursday 4-7pm.… Read more

That worked perfectly for us we were able to get in right away without any wait. Even though it's cozy, it doesn't feel cramped at all. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the drinks were wonderful. The staff really stood out to me. They were attentive, kind, and professional throughout the night. At one point, a patron started to get a bit too tipsy, and the staff handled it with such care and respect while making sure everyone else didn't feel awkward in the situation. It was clear they genuinely care about their guests' experience. Overall, such a great spot and we will definitely come back.

The atmosphere could have been cool, but every 5 minutes the bright hallway light blasted through the western-style swinging door and completely ruined the dark speakeasy vibe. The drinks were tiny and overpriced. We ordered two Old Fashioneds and the giant ice cubes took up almost the entire glass. Larger than a normal square ice cube- a little taller. But it seriously felt like they split one drink into two. Barely a shot in each glass, and the cocktails themselves were just so-so. Very syrup-y flavor. Definitely not "bespoke" or unique the was the server was upselling us. Service started good but when he got busy it went downhill. And by busy he got (1) 5 top.....He was excited about explaining the menu but then never once came back to check on us. When we finally flagged him down and asked for the check, he just dropped the handheld payment terminal on the table, walked away, grabbed it when we finished paying, and said absolutely nothing... no "thank you," no "have a great night," nothing. And this was after we still tipped 20%. Definitely not worth the money, service, or atmosphere. We won't be back.

The space is small, so I definitely recommend using Resy to make a reservation. After checking in with the host at Arc, you will be guided to the rear of the restaurant to small round room with a mirrored door and a beautiful chandelier overhead. Upon entering, you will walk through another small hallway with green light and wood framed mirrors on the wall. At this point, you have now entered the Guild Club. The centerpiece is an attractive granite topped bar that seats nine people. The back of the bar features a beautiful wood cabinet with intricate carvings. There is a small area across from the bar with two round tables, each with two high back cushy chairs. This area is more intimate, but the tables are small if you plan to eat and drink a lot. The walls, floor, and ceilings are dark with lots of woodwork, giving a warm cozy feel. There are a nice assortment of interesting lighting fixtures, and paintings on the walls. A few small ceiling areas are painted dark green and display gold astrological signs. At the end of the bar, there is a spiral staircase leading to an upstairs space that I believe is for display only, but it adds a touch of mystique. The Guild has its own small menu of exclusive cocktails and bites, but you can also order anything from the Arc menu. We started off with an order of shishito peppers which were probably some of the best we have ever had. The portion size is very generous, and they have some herbs, almond crumble, and squeezed lemon on top. Be warned that the cast iron skillets that a lot of their food is served in are extremely hot. For cocktails, I started with the Number One. It was a good balanced cocktail with noticeable cucumber flavor and some bitterness on the finish from the Pimms. She started with Einhorn Is Finkle. It had a great light sweetness with some grapefruit flavor and light bubbles. For my entrée, I had the crispy duck. This is actually a big ball of duck meat with a fried coating on the outside. The duck was very flavorful and nothing about the duck or fried shell was greasy or oily. The grated cheese paired well and the arugula added a nice freshness. This was a great dish that I would definitely order again. She ordered the chile relleno. Obviously, Arc is not a Mexican restaurant but this was surprisingly probably the best chile relleno we have ever had. It had a great pumpkin seed crust with a very flavorful succotash inside. The chili itself was huge and filled up the whole skillet. We would absolutely order this again. I was talking with our bartender JT about my recent new appreciation for mezcal if it's toned down and that none of the mezcal drinks on either cocktail menu really caught my eye. He suggested a Last Word with mezcal replacing the gin. I enjoyed it, but the mezcal was a little too prominent for my taste. For her second cocktail, she ordered The Girlfriend which has a humorous description of "changes daily". The current girlfriend when we were there was a twist on a blackberry margarita. This was surprisingly the best drink of the night, and was definitely the most complex margarita we have ever had. It had a light blackberry flavor, and I believe some of the other ingredients that JT mentioned were grapefruit, lime, cocoa, and cinnamon bitters. For dessert, we ordered the German chocolate cake. It was a huge slice of moist cake and was served with a large dollop of fresh cream. The cake wasn't overly sweet which was nice. We shared one last drink, the Liquid Courage as it sounded like a nice dessert cocktail. On my first sip, I tasted coffee which was unexpected. I asked about it, and apparently the drink menu does not list the Nola coffee liqueur that is in this drink. I'm not a fan of coffee, but at least this cocktail had more of a mocha flavor than a strong coffee flavor. I probably wouldn't have ordered it if the ingredient list was accurate, but I think coffee or mocha lovers would enjoy it more. Our bartender JT was pretty much running everything by himself with only a little outside help, and he was doing a great job. He was also very friendly and we enjoyed our conversations with him. The prices are a little on the high side, but the drinks were good, and the food was excellent with generous portion sizes. Our reservation was for 6:00pm and I would recommend visiting a little closer to sunset. There are some outside windows on the far wall and even though there are drapes, a little light still comes through. And if the door to the outside patio is opened, a lot of light comes in if the sun is up. The Guild Club is a great little speakeasy that I only recently discovered, and I would definitely recommend checking it out.
