Icelandic Salmon (squash caponata, saffron butter, marche)

I had lunch at Pelican Grill and ordered the salmon. The salmon was cooked perfectly, flavorful, and nicely presented. The overall atmosphere was upscale and relaxing, making it a great spot for a nice lunch. Service was also attentive and professional. Overall, a great dining experience and I'd definitely come back.

Dining at Pelican Grill was an amazing experience overall. The food was lovely, and our server, Rico, provided impeccable service from start to finish. The one thing that left me uncomfortable was the older white manager name Gerald Small who spent his time walking around the restaurant, checking in on nearly every table--but never once made his way to ours. I can't help but wonder whether there was a racial element to the difference in attention, and unfortunately, that feeling lingered throughout an otherwise wonderful experience. Aside from that, the food and service were excellent, and Rico was truly exceptional. He deserves recognition for making our dining experience memorable.

Pelican has a great ocean view. We went there for a birthday celebrating and the staff made my group feel so welcomed. The food was amazing. Definitely will order the sea bass again. The Caesar salad and oysters were very frosh. Romantic Ambiance but also great for a friend's get together. I recommend to sit outside. It's beautiful to watch the sun set.

Pelican Grill is a beautiful restaurant located on property at Pelican Hill resort. We are only here for a drink however, amazing views of the ocean are readily available from this restaurant (not today too much fog). The service here is truly top notch, a standard and expectation at this property. No food for us today although past experiences have been fantastic!

Affogato with two shots of espresso (major caffeine overload)

Beautiful and upscale restaurant overlooking the canyon. Large indoor and outdoor seating. Great place to simply dine in or to grab a bite before or after hitting the range. The cocktails and food were also surprisingly good. Here's what we tried 1. Newport salad: lettuce and endive greens with Humboldt fog (goat cheese), grapes, and pecan crunches. May add protein for extra (chicken, salmon, iron steak, shrimp). All of this deliciousness seasoned with light fig vinaigrette. Sooo good. 2. Fromaggi: wood fire thin crust pizza (perfect thickness with just amount of crunch). White sauce with mozzarella, parmigiana reggiano, creamy ricotta, and 24 month aged havarti. Excellent. Please order 3. Ginger fizz: gin, ginger beer, lemon, and rosemary syrup. Very light and refreshing and not strong. 4. Montespresso: amaro Montenegro, espresso and Raspberry (hint of raspberry-so good) 5 Affrogato with two shots of espresso: just perfect. Very good food, excellent service and beautiful venue. Golf then food...what more can you ask for. Also free self parking very close to resort so valet not needed if you prefer to take care of things yourself. Highly recommend!

A friend gave me a recommendation to check this place out. I made a reservation on Open Table although it was a solo venture as I'm currently traveling for work. The view to the water from the patio is stunning. The restaurant itself is on a golf course but has very decadent retro vibes with the decor and ambiance. I ordered an old fashioned to start and I was pleased that their well Whiskey was Buffalo Trace. I asked for a recommendation on what their most popular dishes were and it was between a pasta dish and the Chilean Sea Bass. I chose the sea bass because I needed something a little lighter for dinner. The fish was seasoned and cooked perfectly, it was served with forbidden rice, pickled shallots with a coconut beurre blanc that was a lovely accompaniment. Highly recommend. They aren't open late so try to get an early dinner reservation if it's possible. Service is top tier as well.

The drinks were very good and flavorful. The spicy margarita was exceptional. The crab cake appetizer was also very tasty. My measure of quality for crab cakes is the ratio of breading to crab. We had fish and chips that had incredible halibut. I also ordered the lobster roll with the caesar salad which was a 10 out of 10 ! We will be back ! This may be the best place to eat in Southern California!

Parking is valet or self park & a short walk up. Didn't have any issue finding parking. We sat outside in the patio area which was lovely. Nice view of trees & landscape. All the servers we had were great & friendly & fast. The bread brought out to the table was fabulous. Had the caviar & fries to start with some skinny spicy margaritas. Then we had the risotto which was the best I've ever had. Highly reccomend this place for a nice fancy vibe & good food with views.

fromaggi flatbread, wild mushroom flatbread, jidori chicken, starter bread

The view of this restaurant is great! It is by Newport and you can see the ocean in a distance. There is plenty of parking underground as well as valet. Next to the restaurant is their golf field and their hotel resort. The restaurant has plenty of indoor, outdoor, and bar seating. I have been there multiple occasions and enjoyed it. To start off, the positives! I really recommend the caviar fries. If I were to only get one thing on the menu, it would definitely be that. The cream and the sauce goes well with the caviar and fries. I also loved the starter bread with the sweet butter so much! I asked if I could get a box togo and our server gave us more new bread to take home; honestly, I was so happy! For the flatbread, I recommend the wild mushroom one! We ordered both of the flatbreads on the menu to try, and I actually love cheese, but the cheese on fromaggi tasted a bit more plain and had less flavor. The sausage cavatelli was just okay, and I thought that the dough was a bit too thick and chewy. The chicken was a bit disappointing because the chicken was too dry. The mashed potatoes in the chicken however were great, and the dish was flavored amazingly. The service was great and our servers upon multiple times going were warm and friendly, offering to help us take pictures and asking if the food was good. The second time however, the wait for our food took nearly 45-50 minutes which surprised me a bit. We didn't get updated on when the food was coming. We got our caviar fries really quickly and after finishing had to wait another 35 minutes before our food came. While we were enjoying our caviar fries, a couple was seated next to us and had ordered a starter and a main course. Their main course didn't arrive until after we finished eating and paying the bill.

Girl dinner activated. Dirty martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives, and of course, caviar and fries.

Absolutely amazing experience here and we caught the beautiful sunset since we sat outside! We had a total girl dinner and got dirty martinis with the caviar and fries, and it was the perfect touch with our drinks. Service was amazing and prompt, although a bit slow in the beginning. Our server, Valentina, was exceptional and also made great recommendations. We also decided to get the carpaccio and tableside mushroom risotto (made to order in a huge Parmesan wheel) and it was delicious! I can assume on weekends it would be quite busier and harder to get a table outside so if you come during the week, it might be easier. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back.

I booked this place online because my daughter wanted to celebrate her birthday and have steak by the ocean. I also wanted to view the sunset. I was having a hard time booking a place because we had a group of five people. It's an odd number and most waterfront places only would seat with reservations with two people or four people. Thankfully, I booked this place and it worked out. I ordered the chicken with the chimichurri. My husband ordered the burger. My other daughter ordered the Chilean sea bass. My other daughter ordered the pizza. The birthday girl ordered the steak (the fillet mignon). We also enjoyed those delicious bread rolls. We also ordered two coffees and crème brûlée. From the booking to the valet parking to the reception desk, to being seated, to our order - from our dinners and dessert and coffee and the wine. Everything was spectacular!!! We also enjoyed the sunset and thankfully it wasn't too crowded. I highly recommend this place and that would definitely come back! Thank you!

We went here for the view but it was quite foggy on the day we went, so we did not get to see the coast. This restaurant is located in a classy golf resort. The grounds are beautiful, as is the restaurant. We sat outside for lunch in hopes of a nice view. The food was pricey and not worth what we paid for it. The pretzel was dry. The lobster roll was ok but too small for $40. The gnocchi was overdone and the prawns were undercooked. It was quite a a disappointing meal, especially given how much we spent. Would not recommend to eat here, but maybe go for a coffee just to check out the resort and the view.

A wonderful lunch at Pelican Grill! Our waiter Brian was friendly and professional. The entire staff went above and beyond to deliver impeccable service. The food was delicious. We enjoyed the lobster roll (smallish portion but made well), mushroom pizza, and truffle Parmesan fries. The Grapefruit Sculpin was a refreshing drink, and affogato was the perfect finish to a great meal. Definitely recommend outdoor seating if weather is nice. Parking was easy at the free self-park garage adjacent to the golf area. A pleasant restaurant for couples, groups and families.

They have tons of parking in this shopping center. They share it with TONS of other places. One of my BFFs saw this on an Instagram video and wanted to check it out. *They do take reservations When we came in we checked in with one of the waitresses. She said she would seat us in a minute. To be honest, she did forget about us. A waiter walked up to us and asked us what was going on (we were standing there for around 7 - 10 minutes) and we told him we had a reservation for the speakeasy. He immediately apologized and sat us. This camp themed speakeasy has a couple booths. It's on the smaller sides. Which, speakeasy's are usually small to begin with. I did not get the waitresses name, my friend and I were busy catching up. The waitress was nice, but not attentive. I will say service was a 2/5. However, the actual restaurant, cozy pine is located in, was packed because of the World Cup being on TV. So I definitely was not going to complain The food Our food order did come out extremely FAST. Faster than our drink orders. -the campfire guacamole -BBQ shoestring fries (had bbq seasoning all over them so it tasted like a BBQ potato chip) -Glamping plate (charcuterie board) -steak tacos (one without onion and cilantro -churro affogato Again, the food was VERY fast!! And to be honest it wasn't that bad. I'll say, speakeasy's usually shine in the drink department vs food. Drinks -Lycheed and Loaded Ketel One, lychee liqueur, lemon, elderflower. This was extremely delicious! If you don't like to taste your alcohol? Go with this. It was really refreshing. Hand this to me at a spa and I'd be the happiest gal in the world -Camp Anawanna $17 Graham cracker-infused bourbon, licor 43, chocolate, torched marshmallow (the waitress catches the marshmallow on fire at the table) This one was stronger and I didn't think it was overly sweet despite the ingredients I think they had a good selection, especially for a small speakeasy. I have been to better, so I don't think I'd return. Especially since the service was not that great. We still had a good time and recommend for every speakeasy lovers list.

I've even tried putting some lemon or ponzu on it and even that can't brighten it up - it just tastes like sludge sauce. Every time I forget how awful it is, I always regret ordering it since I spend like $27 on it and then I don't even eat it all, I just throw it away. So: Note to self: NEVER get the salmon poke!! The Tuna poke is ok it's like 3.5 stars maybe 4....it's just hard since the poke in Hawaii is so amazing and even places like Poke Wave and Tiger Plate have really good poke but here it's ok. For like $22 for a super basic bowl with only 4 toppings it's really overpriced. I mean this is Crystal Cove...but still.... What Bear Flag does do outstanding here is the rest of the seafood! Their fish tacos are delicious! They also serve really nice varieties of cooked fish (blackened, cajun, butter, lemon butter, etc.) with a variety of sides. Their tacos are actually good value - you can even get a basic $3 fish taco that I'll often get my kids (who like substituting the flour tortillas) - the $3 taco comes with fish, tortilla, cabbage and sauce. For $7.50 you can get the amped up version which I recommend. Their Tommy sauce is really good and you can get it with most dishes. Also be warned if you come here Summer of 2026 they have like half of the parking lot blocked off (dumb to do during tourist season) so parking is a complete nightmare! It took me like 8 minutes circling just to find parking around 5:30pm on a Tuesday and even then I gave up and drove to the far end of the shopping center where I got lucky and saw someone leaving and then just walked a super far way to get to Bear Flag.
