I had a hard time finding a reliable cat groomer. Carolyn has done a great job with grooming my long haired Maine Coon.

This is a review for one of the groomers. I think her name is Caroline. The only reason she's getting the one is because there's no zero. Susan is the regular groomer but she couldn't fit my dog in in time to cut her long hair because of this heat. The other girl did it and didn't touch the face. Mind you I paid $48 for the service and tipped her. She said the regular groomer Susan told her she never touched the face groom. In talking to Susan, she said nothing like that. I like Susan and I told her I'm sorry but I will be going to another groomer. I wouldn't trust Caroline to take any more of her dogs or cats. I wouldn't trust Caroline with a stuffed animal. As Far as I'm concerned she gets a zero rating. Does this face look like it's been groomed? read more

I loved going into this pet store growing up but as years have gone by, it isn't the same. I had recently adopted a cat and thought supporting a local business was a great idea instead of going to Petco. Their cat selection is small but they carry some top of the line cat food. But beware! Nice store and good selection on most things especially considering it's not as big as the PetCos & Smarts stores. I would be VERY skeptical of purchasing anything LIVE from this location. DO NOT BUY THE REPTILES :( UNLESS you are familiar in dealing with mites. I was very weary to write this review but after seeing all the other negative reviews from earlier dates, I recognize that this is a pattern, a horrible one. This "pet store" broke my heart. I would post the video but unfortunately we're unable to post videos on the yelp platform. There were 4 baby Bald Pythons I believe, and they ALL have parasites, visible to the eye. The employee said she couldn't see the mites, but when I showed her my video of 'said infection' , she then jumped into action and was like OMG thats horrible. The baby Sulcata's shells were extremely dry and they were very stationary, they had moldy food. The food was MOLDY in 75% of all tanks. I have 3 Sulcatas, so I could tell they were sad af in there. I spoke with an employee, the male owner was present, didn't care to speak with me, didn't ensure the animals would be taken care of, nothing. Just took my money, and was short and rude. SUPER BUMBER. BE CARFUL purchasing even feeders..... If you love your pets, be cautious. read more

I called for an appointment to get my two cats' nails trimmed. As a senior citizen this entails me hiring my cats' pet nanny to come and help me put my cats in their carriers and into the car. I explained to Groomer Carolyn that I was calling because she comes out to my neighbor's car to bring her cat in its carrier into the store. Carolyn said she can't do that for me. She gave me an 11:00 appointment, after saying she could not give me a 9:30 A.M. appointment (which would accommodate my pet nanny assisting me) because her assistants would not be there at that time. Does this make sense? Doesn't it sound like even though Carolyn's assistants would be there, none would be able to come to my car and bring my cats in? I am going to have to find another option so I called today and left a message for Carolyn. The woman who took the message said, "Oh, she can come to the car and bring your cats in." I said Carolyn had said no. What a disappointing experience here in my beloved Arroyo Grande. You must wonder if the bad attitude is only Carolyn's or if it trickles down from whoever "CD" is. This shop has an abundance of poor reviews. Pity. read more

I usually take my bunny here for nail trimmings but after today, I will take him elsewhere. I have never had an issue with them until today when they cut too close to the quik and made him bleed. Bunnies are already difficult to keep calm in stressful situations and this just makes things worse. I do not recommend the nail trimmer person here for rabbits because they will cut too close to the quik and not even apologize or even let us know what had happened until we asked. They didnt even seem to show sympathy for what happened. I dont recommend this place for bunnies read more

I am so happy I found this pet shop! I have an "exotic" pet, a tarantula. I walked in close to closing time and they were so friendly. I was able to buy crickets individually instead of in a prepackage of 25 or more. It is also a very clean store. No weird smells, spacious and very bright. I have been frequenting CD's for the last 20 years, when they used to be on the corner of Brisco and Grand. I have gotten a puppy (20 years ago), fish and other pet supplies. They were family owned back when and I still think they are. They have a great assortment of animals and supplies and very reasonably priced. CD's staff was super friendly! We found the chameleon cage that we wanted but it was pre built and not reasonable for us to transport. Carie was super helpful and understanding of our situation; so much so that she let us borrow a screwdriver to take the cage apart. All in all, our experience at CD's Pet Emporium was a 10/10. My experience here was not pleasant. I recently bought a reptile from this store. She was very malnourished and has parasites. Poor little girl. The employee also advised me to get her sand for her tank , and she is still a juvenile pet so she would eat it. When I went to the vet they told me that could cause impaction very easily. I have called to speak with the owner but I can never seem to speak with them. They never even called to check up on her , like they said they would. I would never recommend getting your pet from this place. Even my local vet said they are known to sell unhealthy pets and not care. read more

I've been frequenting CD's Pet Garden & Emporium for 7 years now, and have always had a pleasant experience with the staff! The store has a nice selection of pet products and food for dogs and cats (which all other stores in the area focus on) to fish, birds, small mammals, and reptiles/amphibians. It's the only pet store I know about that stocks a variety of feeders and supplies for reptiles and amphibians. I spent many years working in a pet store back in my younger days, and appreciate their cleanliness and selection. They also have a "reptile room" which has a nice, boutique selection of reptiles and arachnids. Friendly staff, good selection, clean store=A+ in my book! read more

I was recommended here to see Susan for my poodle's grooming. She was very friendly though I wasn't satisfied with my dog's cut. He was very out of proportioned and uneven. She trimmed his head much smaller than his body. He's gotten bad haircuts before but hair grows so it's not too big of a deal. However, my main complaint would be that she nipped my dog pretty badly and had not mentioned it to me as I came to pick up my dog. I had to find out by noticing that he kept licking the wound. It made me pretty upset. Had she would have told me I would keep an eye on it but she did not apologize nor made me aware of the cut he could get an infection! read more

DON'T GET YOUR BIRD's WINGS CLIPPED HERE!!!! I was told by the manager of the store that one of the services they offer is wing clipping. (My bird is four months old, bought from a breeder. Handfed, adorable and sweet. But I digress...). He was already a good flyer, and I was worried that he would hurt himself, crash into a window, etc. So I made an appointment with the groomer to get his wings clipped. From the beginning, she was extremely unfriendly, took my bird into the back and closed the door. She said I could not come in the back and watch. She clipped all of his flight feathers so short, that if he attempts to fly, he just crashes straight down onto the floor. (They should still have the ability to fly a little bit in a diagonal downward pattern to cushion the blow.) Of course, he fell a bunch of times... he finally fell so hard that he injured his leg. I am so sad. We took him to the local avian veterinarian, who took one look at the wing clipping and said it was done completely wrong, a butcher job. He said that he has seen many birds in this situation who have broken their breast bones, broken legs, broken necks... I have tried to call the manager twice to talk about it in a kind way, but she has not returned my phone calls. On a positive note, they have a good supply of pet care items, but they are overpriced. And not friendly. Obviously, I'm not going back! read more

I love this place, great selection on pet supplies, the price point is just above the "big box" pet stores. The set up of the store is AMAZING!! My daughter loves just going in and browsing through the store even if we don't need to buy our dogs food. It had amazing "caves" where they keep the reptiles (including a HUGE boa constrictor) , bunny's, hampers, and two very wonderful parrots hanging high above the store!! Go check this place out. It's like you too a quick trip into the zoo My only complaint is that during my recent visits the counter staff has not been helpful or friendly to say the least.. but I like this place so much I will give it another chance or two. read more

I have tried every grooming service within 1/2 hour except the two not taking new customers (michaels & donnas) over the last year and by far this one is the best. She listened to what I asked for and delivered. Someone had riled up the birds causing my dog to shake from all these strange screaming noises so she was tramatized when I had to drop her off, but HAPPY when I picked her up. She clearly, lovingly took care of my baby. Oh, and she was beautiful. read more

Don't know if it's because of the higher cost of living and the popular tourism, but everything was way overpriced. While they do have a wide range of pet supplies and some cute hand-made treats, I found some items that I had also found for about 1/3 of the price elsewhere. Not only were their prices high, but I couldn't shop around the store and check out all their stuff without a worker watching me like a hawk as if I'd steal something. Every month we purchase Frontline Plus (3 pack) for my 3 cats and it always works, this month it did not. I went back to CD's Pet & Garden Emporium and told them what was happening and that I called Frontine, whom in turn told me to take the product back to where I bought it in order to get a refund.......CD's Pet & Garden Emporium told me they do not give refunds!!!! I will NEVER buy another item from CD's Pet & Garden Emporium!! If a company will NOT stand behind the products they sell then I will not give them my business.....I would recommend others do the same, if your hard earned money is important to you then buy from a supplier who will in turn stand behind their products!!! read more

BEST PET SHOP!! The ladies who work there are so nice and greet you immediately. The place is very clean and pretty big. I've been getting my hamsters here over the years because of how well handled they are. Even A employee at Petco told me they handle the rodents better over there! This store doesn't stand behind there animals. Purchased a bird and it died the next day. We have an inside avery with an outside component. We purchased 6 birds, only one which died. I have also purchased other birds from other stores and they always have at least a 3 day guarentee. I called the next day was told the manager would call me the next day. Of course no call, had to call back only to be told I did not know how to treat birds which is a smile, because we have over thirty birds which we keep very healthy.
