Last night was a birthday, so naturally we went to one of our favorite--if not our very favorite--restaurant in the neighborhood: Cebu. And somehow, even with high expectations, it still overdelivered. We kicked things off with three sushi rolls that could've easily been the whole meal. Two Signature Rolls--New York's Finest and New York's Strongest--and a Classic Boston Roll. The Boston Roll keeps things classic, the Finest is a bit spicy, and the Strongest is the more indulgent one--stacked high in a way that almost feels like a sushi cupcake, but in the best possible way. Honestly, we could've stopped there and been more than satisfied. But that's not how birthdays work. Next came the special haddock entrée over creamy mashed potatoes, along with our usual Bang Bang Broccoli appetizer. That broccoli is always a highlight--crispy, a little sweet, a little heat, and hard to stop eating. And then...we made a decision. A bold one. Dessert. Not one--two. Tiramisu and crème brûlée. Both were excellent and, by that point, entirely unnecessary--a final touch of pure decadence. By the end of it, we were so full we seriously questioned our ability to walk home. A car service may or may not have entered the chat. As always, Cebu delivered exactly what it does best--reliable, elevated, and quietly exceptional. Cebu Bar & Bistro is located in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn. We stumbled upon this place Christmas Eve Weekend after trying to go to both Kettle Black & Ho Brah for dinner and both being closed for private holiday parties. Boy, were we happy to find that Cebu was open. Even though the back room was occupied for a private party, the rest of the establishment was open for regular dinner service. Cebu is accessible via public transportation, including the R tain to 86 Street Train , as well as the B37 & B16 & B63 buses. There are various stores, eateries & hangout spots around this neighborhood, and Cebu is near a few places, including Chadwicks, which is a nice Steak House. When we eventually crossed the street and went into Cebu, we were glad to be greeted by the lovely hostess and to find seats at the bar area. Menus were provided to us, and I observed a nice-sized crowd of patrons enjoying their dining experience while eating fabulous llooking dishes. Cebu has a chic ambiance and lively atmosphere. Cool lighting and pictures are all throughout Cebu, including in the bathroom. Great music played in the background - Dua Lupa, Rihanna, etc. We ordered the "Modern Love" cocktail - Empress 1908 Gin, Elderflower & Lavender, and the "Spiked Lemonade" cocktail - Deep Eddy, Sweet Tea Vidka, Lemonade & Mint. Both of the cocktails were delightfully refreshing. Cebu gives complimentary bread, which was served warm and tasted fresh. Our Steak Skewers Appetizer as well the Entrees- Rigatoni w/ Sausage and Slamon w/ Asparagus - were good. Shout-Out to Doug, Richard, Brian, Natalie & especially to Fernando as they all were so kind to us. I had a small work gathering and we had a wonderful experience. The place is beautiful-dark woods, flowers, lots of light. The food and drinks were very good. We ordered a variety of food-burgers, salad, pasta, satay-and everything was delicious. The drinks were very good I was well. I had a non-alcoholic Italian margarita and it was delicious, it actually tasted like it had alcohol. I've gone here before for brunch back during Corona days and didn't get the full experience since it was outdoors but this time around, I got to enjoy the ambiance when he had indoor dining to celebrate my cousin's birthday. I didn't have reservations so I was lucky to have gotten a table. The tacked were decorated with battery-operated lit candles so it created a nice, intimate setting. It's so romantic that I initially thought maybe I should have gone elsewhere for a family celebration but those blasphemous thoughts were out to rest as soon as our drinks and food came out. I ordered a Chicken Parm pizza with a side of penne a la vodka. Damn, it was the tastiest combination I've ever had. I was in heaven as soon as I dipped my pizza into a side of vodka sauce. I'm just getting hungry remembering it all right now. The Aperol Spritz that I had ordered was the perfect pairing for my food. My sister's filet mignon was too tiny for my liking but my sister enjoyed it nonetheless. The staff was so nice and festive, especially when they came out with a piece of tiramisu (soooo good) with a birthday candle to sing happy birthday to my cousin. Had an incredible experience at Cebu. The Italian margarita was delicious and I was guided on what apps and sushi to order, special shoutout for the FDNY Roll as it was some of the best sushi I've eaten in a long time. As I stayed later in the night, and was served at the bar, I had the most wonderful experience with the bartender Brian. He was attentive, gave fantastic service, and poured great drinks. Beautiful atmosphere. Service was laid back but attentive. I was blown away by the chicken Caesar pizza. The chicken and cauliflower were in the crust, with the salad on top. Neighborhood favorite of my friends whether it be brunch, lunch or dinner, in a classic, old Brooklyn restaurant. Reservations highly recommended. Guacamole and chips was delicious and fresh. Glazed salmon was perfect with the scallions and absolutely enjoyed the sesame taste. Steak and eggs was perfectly cooked. Special of the day: Apple crisp not to be missed! Cebu is an excellent neighborhood restaurant. The food and drinks never disappoint. Service is always excellent and the owners are ever-present to make sure diners are satisfied. Every dish we have had (most many times) has been very well prepared, delicious and beautifully presented. Cebu rounds out their excellent food and service with a creative and deep bar program which features excellent bourbons, amaros, mixed drinks, etc. it always satisfies, never disappoints and often truly delights. We enjoy this place and appreciate the menu. The steamed buns are the best thing on the menu--filled with beautiful short rib meat and served in delicate, fluffy buns. We also tried the seafood tower, which is not bad. The oysters were amazing--my husband thought they were some of the best we've had, and we've eaten oysters from well-renowned places, so that says a lot. The martinis are good, although they forgot the blue cheese in the olives during our last visit. I always get the ginger drink, which is fantastic with its tahin rim. The variety of options is impressive, and we come here several times a month, as a date night, we have our favorite tables and spend a load of money supporting them. In addition we even do a large take home order for my sister, husband and I celebrating my birthday here every year on the 1st of January. I also come throughout the year with friends and family as we have known this place for many years being born and raised in the area. So many options are good here like the lollipop wings the muscles , the steak skewers, the best burger in Bay Ridge, you can't go wrong with them. However, the owner was a bit awkward when he learned that I am Muslim and do not eat pork. I had reached out because their social media manager, posted that the buns will now be made with pork so as a Muslim, I reached out to see if if that was true and they informed me that it was actually a typo . The owner came up to our table to ask about it and seemed annoyed (or maybe confused?) by my ask which was odd. Not sure why thats confusing or annoying lol. I'm sure he doesn't discriminate against Muslims. Perhaps he is just socially awkward . He also was confused because Resy informed us that it was down due to restaurant week having so much traction which caused patrons to experience errors when attempting to book, this was taken care of before our visit yet when we came he thought this was weird too. He gets confused offen. We chuckled when he left just chocking it up to his social awkwardness, but in general I think let's just concentrate on all the money and support you get from us and don't worry about things that are out of our control . Despite this, we continue to enjoy the restaurant and its offerings. We love how kind service is and hope they are getting paid well for their work. We all know a restaurant is nothing without its wonderful employees. We have a blast coming here as a pregame before heading to The Brooklyn Firefly which is a nice brisk walk from here. read more

I've been hesitant to return after a negative customer service experience during my first visit, but the food is just so good here, and it's really the only place I can think of with oysters in Bay Ridge. This time, the customer service was great! Complimentary Bread- The focaccia was warm and chunky. The sauce was alright, but the bread was tasty on its own. Eastpoint Oyster Long Island- Some of the best oysters I've ever had. Loved the presentation and taste so much. They came with horseradish, mignonette sauce, cocktail sauce, hot sauce, and lemon. I really appreciate that because most places I've been to only serve 2-3 of the toppings they offer here. Chicken Lollipop Wings- Delicious, but a bit too saucy. It was overwhelming toward the end. I come here weekly w/ friends. Yesterday I went with my husband. Food was good...drinks were good....we paid our bill by debit card and left the tip in cash on the table. On the way out, one of the guys (with the white hair) stops my husband and says "you forgot to tip me" ... LMAO WHAT????? My husband said "it's on the table" .... Wow tacky AF. GUESS WHERE WE WONT BE RETURNING! If I wanted to be harassed about a tip at the door, I would have just went to my local nail salon... I thought only they just did that. Lmao. Gross. Tasteless. came by with my girlies for a weekend brunch. the entrance is very unassuming because you walk into the bar section of the restaurant. for appetizer, we got the homemade ricotta with honey and artisinal bread. for those who don't enjoy olives, please be warned that the bread is made with olives in them. they also serve focaccia bread for free, it was soooo good we asked for more LOL as for entrees, we went fo the fried chicken sandwich, cebu burger, fish tacos and eggs benny. everything was so good. can't come back to try the dinner menu we weren't there for long and eventually it did seem like the staff was trying to rush us out, maybe it was because they close to reorg/prep for dinner? not sure. hopefully it wont be the same situation if i come back for dinner read more

I came to Cebu with a large group for a work lunch. We came on a Saturday afternoon around 2 PM and the restaurant was fairly empty. We were seated in the outdoor dining area. We had to use two large tables but it was strange that they gave us two separated large tables that were different sizes so there was an obvious divide between our group. There was another large table next to us that was the same size as the main table that they should have just pushed together to minimize that awkwardness. After we sat down I realized how dirty that plates were that were sitting out. Service was a bit slow. They did not make sure our waters were filled and did not clean up the plates. However, the servers all seemed friendly. They brought out some complimentary bread with a great tomato based sauce on the side that was delicious. I really just wish the bread was warmed up so it would have perfectly complimented the cold sauce. We started out with lots of appetizers to try. The FRIED CALAMARI was yummy. The sauces it came with really complimented it well. The TUNA TARTAR was just ok. Not enough tuna and way too much cucumber. The chips it came with were also just ok. The MOULES FRITES were fine. The mussels unfortunately did not taste super fresh. But the fries and the sauces they came with were wonderful! The PEKING DUCK SPRING ROLLS were just average - nothing too exciting about them. Afterwards I got a CEBU BURGER which was good but fairly average for a burger. The fries were slightly too over salted but they were fried very well. All in all, a restaurant with some highs and lows serving an ok lunch experience in Bay Ridge. read more
