These guys are great at Cecil's! I had just my oil changed twice here...great price, honest, and quick service when they were obviously busy. My car was in dire need of a tuneup and while everyone in a 50 mile radius was booked, Cecil's really made room to help on short notice. I recommend them highly! Worst experience ever! Broke down on the 4th of July while I was moving from SF to Sacramento (it was 106 too, great day!). Called around to see who would be open the next day. All the shops that were open were booked full, except Cecil's Hi-Tech. Should have know why! I towed my car to Cecil's the next day and went home. Got a call later that day that my engine was shot, but he had a guy on the other line who had a used engine to sell. Sounded kind of fishy to me so I called my Dad. Sounded fishy to my Dad too so I decided to get another opinion. In the mean time, I asked him to run some more tests to see if he could pin-point the exact cause of my engine being broken. He kept saying it had no compression, that the values were probably bent, that my timing belt broke, but could not verify any of his theories. I asked him for an estimate of the repairs the car needed. It took him 3 days to get back to me and what he said is he does not do engines and mentioned the lack of compression. Um...you waited 3 days to tell me I needed to take my car somewhere else. Why? When I went to pick up my car he kept reiterating the same thing, no compression, bad engine, engine won't turn over (which at that point I heard one of his employees yelling that the car does turn over, so the engine is not shot). Now I might be a female who is not into cars, but I did my research. If I am going to spend a few grand on repairs, I want to know what the repair is for. I don't want to be talked down to and I certainly don't want you to keep referring to my husband as my friend just because he is not the same race as me. We both own the car. One a side note: my car's engine was not busted. The repairs cost $350 including labor, and 1998 Toyota Corolla's have a timing chain, not a timing belt which the other mechanic saw within the first 30 seconds. I had a car problem. Car wouldn't start, I believe it to be the starter but I had no time to research it buy a new one and install it. Called Cecil's and they had time for me to tow it in early the next morning they got it diagnosed problem fixed and out the door the same day. Price? Significantly less than I thought I would pay. Today I took in my Chevy Surburban for work on a leaking water pump. Cicils helped fix my vehicle and helped repair a small oil leak with a new O ring. Went the extra mile and replaced some worn belts for me as well. We are new this Vacaville and I appreciate there honesty and good work. Gina was at the front desk and very helpful and polite. Stay away! I know 2 people personally that have been told they needed a new engine (myself included, making 3) and they "knew a guy" that had a replacement that would work. Ended up, all I needed was a tune up with spark plugs. Did it myself for $60.00 (not counting the $95.00 they charged for "Diagnostics". Still runs great today and passes smog like a champ. One person I know that fell for the engine replacement scam ran the "new" engine for 2 months before it seized and their guy wouldn't warranty his work because he isn't licensed. Honest as they get!! My BMW 330xi dropped a radiator on I-80 and I milked it to Vacaville... Napa autoparts recommended Cecil's and I was there first thing in the morning. The owner (Tom?) was really nice and told me up front they don't work on BMWs. He recommended Star Tech European down the street. ( See my review for them)... I grew up in Vacaville, still work there and currently live in Sacramento. I make the extra effort to drive to Cecil's when I need service on any of my 4 vehicles. I can't comment on unfair reviews given, as I obviously have no facts as far as their situations, but I can say that $110 an hour labor rate is pretty standard, nothing exorbitant about that. Have gone there for 15 years, and have always been taken care of in a professional and fair manner. Additionally, I work at a company in town that employees over 1000 people, and Cecil's is the "go to" for auto repair needs. Wish I'd read reviews before I spent a couple thousand dollars over the last year at this typical sheisty auto shop. The first few jobs they did we're ok and the $110 an hr was a little high for labor, but they were very close by. Where they really screwed me was when I went to them to inspect a pickup I was contemplating buying. They came back with several problems. After discussing what it would cost to have the issues remedied I asked seller to lower price and we made a deal based on the issues I would have Cecil's take care of. The major problem that they didn't make evident to me is now going to cost an extra $1000. Having that knowledge would have either saved me another grand on purchase price or I would have not got the truck. They told me AC didn't work, but if I could live with that it wasn't anything dire. Well as it turns out the AC compressor is whining and will go out eventually and will cause even more problems. They insist they told me about the AC being broken and I agree that they did. They just didn't say it was imperative that it be fixed. Now I am supposed to reward them with another $1000 worth of business. If they had any integrity they would have accepted my request of only charging me 1/2 on labor since I would not have bought the truck had I known it needed over $2000 in repairs right away. Me and my two young daughters were returning to Reno from vacation on 7/12/12 and our air conditioning quit working. It was approximately 4:35 p.m. when we pulled into Cecil's garage to get help. It was 103 degrees outside and we were on the verge of heat stroke. I don't know the name of the man who I talked to (mid 50's and wore a gold chain with a Star of David and a Cross), but he immediately told me that they would be closing in 20 minutes and could not help me. He said it would take at least half an hour to hook up the air conditioner to the diagnostic machine. This man had no compassion, kindness, or just plain human decency to help us. I have gone to this shop for many years and have always had good experiences, there prices always fair never a hint of dishonesty, I just saw what others had written and was shocked. If there is a change in how they do business next time I have my car worked on at Cecil's I will update if I have a problem but I just stopped in for an estimate because I thought it was time to service my car they told me my car did not need the service yet , that's not making them money it was saving me money. If you need an honest, local mechanic this is the place to bring your car. I have lived in Vacaville for 20 years and have been through a number of mechanics, and Cecil's is the only place we bring our cars for basic tune ups and oil changes. The manager Tim, is friendly and knowledgeable and HONEST. If you don't need it, they won't sell it to you. If it doesn't need repair, they won't fix it. They take care of you and your car as if you were family. I'm not sure how the other reviewers came to give Cecil's one star, it's a little baffling. What I can tell you that I am picky about the service I receive and Cecil's measures up. Know that if you take your care here you will be treated in an honest and fair manner. If you are only going to read one sentence of this review, TAKE YOUR CAR TO CECIL'S Hi Tech Auto Care in Vacaville, CA. After having a problem of starting our Prius V, I made an appointment with the dealer, who told me it would take 2 hours to diagnose the problem. I was driving by Cecil's at 4:45 on a Friday afternoon and thought maybe they could check the battery to save me time at the dealer. I was told they were closing up, but the mechanics would be asked if they would be willing to take a quick look. Mike and the other mechanic, smiling mind you, at the end of the day on a Friday, came out and tested my battery, which tested bad. "You wouldn't happen to have one here would you?" The super nice woman in the office checked for me and made sure the best battery was available. I was told Napa Auto does not deliver after 4:30, but one of the employees said that he would go get it himself. It is now 5:00p.m. closing time, and everyone was willing to work late to make sure that I could get back safely on the road. I really was ready to make an appointment to come back on Monday, but no, they said they would take care of me and my car! At 5:27p.m., I drove away with a brand new battery and peace of mind. I tried to tip the employees, for staying late, but they would not take my money. They simply said to come back when my car needed service. I intend to do that and suggest that you do the same and give these awesome people your business! Thank you Cecil's! I am busy. I have had bad experiences with auto mechanics wasting my time and my money. As a woman, I have been talked down to. I have been treated like a customer who should just take bad service and get over it. Thank you, Cecil's for reviving my trust in professionalism and customer service all the while supplying exceptional value. There are no frills here. It feels like an auto shop. I like that practicality. The business manager is organized and communicates all along the way with customers whether they need an oil change or more extensive work. The only sales push I heard was to encourage a discount from one of the local ads. How refreshing is that? I tell everyone about this place. I brought my car in because the brakes were causing shaking and knocking. I told them this. I was told the my back brakes were worn down pretty bad, but my front still had plenty of padding. So I just had the back ones changed. I was not informed that this would not stop the shaking, it's actually worse now because the front rotars are worn. I was not informed of this. On top of that the customer service was terrible. When I initially setup the appointment she was not friendly at all. I chalked it up to a bad day, but the next day when I brought my car in I received the same attitude. When my mother brought her car in the next day she was treated just as bad. I will never bring my car back here nor will I be referring them. Too bad because I'm all about supporting local businesses. read more

They advertise in Your Town Monthly. There ad reads open from 7:30am til 5pm. I travel to Cecil's so I can be there by 7:30am to have oil changed. I ask if I can get oil changed and too my surprise the owner tells me abruptly "NO I have to have an appointment and that technicians to not even come in until 8:00am." No where in there ad does it say By Appointment Only or that Technicians do not come in until 8:00am. Need to fix there ad so people know you need appointment. read more

We took our car here when we first moved to town. We wanted to get a basic tune-up and replace a tail light. For about 20 minutes, the staff person went on and on about how we are lucky we called him because he is "connected" with the "right people" in Vacaville...about how Vacaville is not safe, etc. etc. and he would "protect" us. It was a really odd conversation that left me uneasy. His guys replaced the tail light, and we took our other business elsewhere. read more

had a bran new A/C system in stalled in my car on Sunday all I need was to get it charged. went to Cecil's . they charged me 102 dollars to charge the system, and it only blow cold, air for 3 minutes I returned to ask why. the told me that they needed to diagnostic machine and that would cost 100. dollars more. why would a new A/C system need to be diagnose ??? it was in stalled by a mechanic who did not have Freon ? they wanted me to live my car so they could do than , I asked if I could get a ride home and was told it would be 30 minuets to 45 because of lunch at 11 am . before they could get around to taking me home. I was told that there is a part that is under the dash of the car and if it was bad it would cost 800. to 1000 dollars to fix. the part is very small and easy to get to. the manager and the machine were rude to me and did not want to lesson to me they said they did not have time. even though they were very slow. I felt they were trying to take advantage of me because of my age ( 63 ) so if you are an older person stay away, very on satisfiyed with there service. had to give one star but they don't deserve that . read more
