Let's start with the good. The location - right on the river. The staff - all busting it. It ends there. We ordered burgers and were told the come medium, unless otherwise specified. We ordered medium rare. We received hockey pucks. But the bacon was nice. Unseasoned hockey pucks at that!! They came with limp pickles (add you own jokes here) and barely seasoned chips, which probably would have been better with the seasoning. An overly vermouth-ed martini was the beverage for each. The clam chowder tasted very roux forward and was served lukewarm. Very lackluster. The French Onion soup was decent, but a sodium bomb near the bottom was not pleasant. The rooms were quite loud and you really had to speak up to be heard, which made it louder. Plus the servers pushing booze the entire time was a bit of a bore. I have been a number of times now and love their selection of beer. The food has been outstanding. I have tried a few of the burgers and loved them. Cooked perfectly. I tried the cod one night just to try something different and will definitely be getting that the next time we go. The outdoor seating is amazing with great views of the damn and the river. Cedar and Main is a breath of fresh air in Contoocook! The place is beautiful, the staff are friendly and welcoming, and the food is delicious. We wanted everything on the menu, but we had to choose a few so we went with the duck nachos, bao buns, cordon blue Mac & cheese. Duck nachos were really good, bao buns super yummy, and the Mac is next level delicious. We will definitely be back! Turns out we went back before I even posted this review! This is an update to my original post...So, I saw a review today that made me want to do a little research of my own. Now, I'll be completely honest, I've eaten at Cedar and Main Tavern numerous times since they opened their doors. We ordered a late lunch early dinner type of thing. We ordered Chicken Nachos, Chicken Quesadillas, Chicken Tenders, Boa Buns and the Meatball Diablo sandwich with Tots. The Chicken Quesadillas was packed with chicken and cheese, more chicken than you would think. The chicken tenders were so moist and full of flavor and the bee sting sauce was outstanding. The Chicken Nachos were unbelievable, tons of chicken and cheese with the normal toppings. The Meatball Diablo sandwich with a side of Tots...I think I just found my new favorite and everything was as hot as if we were eating right at the restaurant. I couldn't be happier. To those that have tried Cedar and Main Tavern and didn't think it was all that special, I would suggest trying the other establishments in our area. The front of house staff are hands down the best in the area. The kitchen staff are right on the ball, I've ordered certain things and one of the chef's came out to make sure what was on the ticket was really what I wanted. The owners are friendly and genuinely want you to have a great experience. So, if you aren't happy with your experience at Cedar and Main Tavern in Contoocook, NH and you didn't speak up...it might just be you ! And no I don't work there or have any stake in the place other than being thankful we have another restaurant in town that cares about their customers. Incredible food. What a nice surprise and such a nice setting along the Contoocook river I had an incredible spaghetti and meatballs with the most delicious homemade ricotta topping. My husband had the salmon and ate every bite. And my son had a burger that he said was excellent and he ate the entire thing too. The nice surprise was their Korean french fries. You should definitely go if you can. Nice to have another delicious restaurant to go to nearby in the area. read more

Stopped in for a quick break from driving to catch up on some work - beautiful location on the water (outdoor seating during the spring and summer season is probably a prime spot) - Tots were ok - being critical the queso and pico could be more flavorful and I would've preferred them served in a large bowl to be a bit more manageable otherwise, you can't really ruin a tot?! Fish and chips sandwich is enough for 2 people. I ordered it Togo- Love that they left the top off the sandwich to prevent it from getting soggier in the container. Personally breading was a tad thicker than I prefer but seasoned well. Fries were ok. Staff was friendly and the owner was active which is great to see. Would definitely recommend. read more

We had a party of 11. Only 2 dishes were the same. The person on the fry station had a very heavy hand with the salt. The calamari would have been good minus the salt and it also was not crispy, it was mushy like it was covered waiting others dishes to be readied. Other non fried dishes were good. Our waitress was extraordinary. The atmosphere was very nice, a bit loud for my taste, but then it is a tavern, right? I'll give it a second go of it when it's good enough weather to sit out on the deck. I wish them well. read more

Nicely renovated building with so much thought going into decorating the interior space for that quintessential New England tavern feel. Delicious food and liquid libation options, open for lunch and dinner but not take out. Amazing service with a smile showing every emphasis out into making this new restaurant a success. I've made several attempts to on a variety of days to be seated solo, without any success (and frankly, barely any courtesy whatsoever). Words spread fast in a tiny town, and I'm not remotely surprised to hear from several others that they've given up too, after a few failed attempts. We were sat at a beautiful table outside along the river and then enjoyed delicious bee sting wings for an appetizer and then had the most amazing potato crusted cod for dinner! This place is such a great addition to Contoocook Village We were able to grab a table on the deck as the sun was setting on a warm evening Good wine , beer and cocktail list Great menu , very friendly and attentive wait staff and everything came out in a timely fashion The bar and the dining room and the deck are spacious and inviting We had chicken garlic nachos and it was heaping with chicken and cheese ! The service was very good and the views of the river are so beautiful. On my first visit, we had a late afternoon lunch. I ordered the fish sandwich and so did my friend. The fish was fresh and cooked perfectly. The coleslaw and French fries were excellent. The portions were generous and I had leftovers for lunch the next day. My friend ordered decaf coffee and the woman taking care of us, made a fresh pot. It was delicious coffee according to my friend. I want back for a 2nd visit a few days ago and my spouse loved the fish sandwich too. Next visit I plan to try something new. I eat fish but not other meat like chicken, beef, pork. I hope to find some good vegetarian items to try in the future. There is ample free parking and the restaurant is very nice. Good dining spaces and decor. We did not sit in the bar but it looks very large and cozy. So happy to have another place to eat in the Contoocook area. We were happy to see Cedar and Main open and the atmosphere was great. Service was solid. The food tasted good, however the sides seemed to be microwaved or sat out for too long. We did not give 5 stars because the food options were limited due to the very busy grand opening. It allowed us try other food options which were very tasty. My family of 4 & I spent the Saturday for lunch following Christmas at this relatively new restaurant. We were so glad we did. Good restaurants in rural areas of NH are hard to find. But Cedar & Main is well worth the visit. It was very busy inside as we found the parking at its max. Yes we waited about 10/15 min. in the lobby for a table however we were offered quick seating in the bar. The service was good. We were provided immediate attention for seating overlooking the River with liquid refreshments. The decor was artful & creative. The menu's for food, beer & wine was extensive. I had a Reuben sandwich which was excellent. It was so big for me I had to take half home as did my daughter. Obviously the servings are ample for even the biggest appetites. The food was served hot, the beer cold and the prices are very competitive. My wife, I and grown-up children all thought this place is well worth the return again & again.
