This would be about 3-4 stars for 50% of what the rates are. - Lack of b&b welcoming hospitality. Current Owner seems to be defensive and more concerned about the rules and maintaining the property then welcoming the guests and highlighting the property's unique features and how guests can enjoy their time there. -No outdoor backyard or happy hour wine serving -Unimpressive breakfast spread (again based on the rate they charge) The biggest improvement this place can make is showing genuine hospitality to the guests. This should eventually include serving happy hour wine and snacks and improving the breakfast spread. Cedar Gables Inn definitely has good potential but will the new ownership fully realize this? read more

This was a wonderful place to stay- close to downtown Napa. The gourmet breakfast was amazing. The beds are so comfortable and the entire room was beautiful! The room and bathroom were very large. The king size bed was comfortable. The jetted tub/shower was a bit wonky. Low water pressure, but that is expected in an old house. Would have appreciated a couple of more towels and wash clothes, but we managed. Our stay included breakfast. They were serving Eggs Benedict. The staff noticed that we weren't eating and offered to make us scrambled eggs and an English muffin. That's pretty accommodating!! read more

I am a B&B addict and there's nothing more refreshing than finding your latest "find" and knowing that you will return again !! My husband and I were celebrating our 30th anniversary and have never been to Napa. I wanted this trip to be perfect and finding accommodations that are both charming and comfortable are top on my list. What a fabulous place !! Ken and Susie are awesome hosts who were willing to accommodate any wishes we had. We stayed in Miss Dorothy's Room and it was perfect (my husband is a big guy and this room was very comfortable for him.) Very close to Main Street (a quick drive or walk if you are so inclined to.) Susie's morning breakfast was amazing. My son is a chef and I'm sure he would have given her an A++ for her culinary expertise. You won't go wrong with your choice to stay here. Cedar Gables is a bit of a bummer, sadly. It should be noted that the inn changed hands in 2017, so every pre-17 review is for the old owners who apparently did A LOT more. The website appears to have been kept from their tenure and shows things that aren't actually available at the inn today. If you're into quirky, interesting, historical spaces, then you won't be totally bummed out. The house is super cool and with some love would be really fascinating to stay at. (For our review, we stayed in room 1, the Count Bonzi room) The pros: - Beautiful, quirky historical home with fun details. - Full breakfast included -Very comfortable bed The cons: -It's gotten really run down. Our room has peeling wallpaper, loads of nails in the wall where there *was* art but the art has been removed leaving nails and picture hangers in the wall and exposed damage, LOTS of chipping paint everywhere, very worn accessory furniture. -Kind of weird check-in policy. You can only check in between 3 and 6. I got a call the day before asking me when I'd be there...I planned on between 3 and 6, but it was weird being asked about it and felt a little pressured. When you arrive you wait outside until someone answers the door. -No wine! Like, not even in the whole place. Apparently the old owners ran a "tavern" but the new owners don't. There was two snack bags of cheetohs next to two wine glasses in our room.....but there is no happy hour or wine reception or anything. -The food isn't as described on the website. It's alright. We had toast, juice, museli, and an egg burrito one morning and a bagel and cream cheese (with chopped carrot??) the next morning. Lots of carbs, nothing fancy, little to no protein. There is NO selection and no options for anything different. You also are pegged to one of two times (either 8 30 OR 915) for breakfast. -Website says robes provided. They are not. - The bathroom in our room had one outlet that is across the bathroom from the counter. The mini fridge and Keurig are plugged into it. If you want to plug in hair tools, you have to unplug the fridge and then stand at an akward angle at the edge of the counter with cords running across the bathroom. -Our room also has an apparently non functional wall cooler in an internal wall, that allows anyone on the other side of that wall to see into the room. There is some sort of staff room there and it's like sharing a room with staff. It really needs to be removed and closed up. -Fireplaces don't work anymore. -No accessible outdoor space for guests. Lastly, I didn't do my homework and read the Yelp reviews before I booked and apparently they have a terrible cancelation policy AND were handled cancelations after the fire really poorly. I feel badly for giving my money to someone who acted so badly during the fires. Overall, the house really seems like the new owners bought it and are just trying to save money rather than reinvesting, and it shows. You won't see all of the spaces that appear on the website or on older reviews and the spaces that are available have gotten run down since the new owners took over. It's a pretty bare bones bnb experience. It's a bummer because the house is super cool and I hope the current owners start investing back into the home. read more

Hands down, the Cedar Gables inn is the finest Bed & Breakfast in the U.S. that I have stayed in! The hosts are warm and pleasant, the accommodations are impressive and beautiful, and the value was worth every penny! From the beginning of making my reservation with the Inn Keeper, Sue, I was over the moon with Cedar Gables. We arrived to smiling faces, fresh baked cookies, and personal service. We enjoyed chatting up Sue at the wine/cheese hour, while Inn Keeper Ken serenaded us with mellow acoustic tunes in the background. Sue rattled off the best of the local eateries, and wineries. It was almost a mini-tour into the town of Napa itself. I recommend staying in the Gables suite. It's isolated on the top floor, with a sunken stepped bedroom and giant jacuzzi tub. It also has a giant shower, and the windows open for fresh air and sunshine in the morning. We closed our stay with a delightful breakfast by Sue & Ken. It was more like a lunch, very plentiful. We had espresso drinks, hot cinnamon buns and croissant sandwiches...as well as fresh fruit bowls! {and every piece of fruit was of high quality!, I don't know if I can say that about any restaurant I've ever been to!} If you are looking for romance, peace, and quality....you find it here. Needless to say, We will return. It will be hard to beat the perfect stay we had, but they will be our first choice upon returning to Napa read more

This B&B is a treasure. I initially underestimated how profound the impact of such an old house (for the U.S. anyway) would be on my experience which left me pleasantly intrigued and surprised. The staff was really responsive and friendly. The quality of breakfast was pretty good as is their coffee. My two cousins and I stayed in the family deluxe room and are already planning our next trip back. It's close to downtown and also next to a little treasure of a Mexican grocery store and cafe. This was honestly the best birthday I even had! Way to make my 30th feel much better! My husband did a phenomenal job picking the Cedar Gables Inn B&B and the cooking class!! We will definitely be back someday!! Upon our arrival, we were immediately greeted by Ken & Susie with a BIG, warm, welcoming "Hellooo!" It was wonderful. They made us feel like at home! They had delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies awaiting at the top of the stairs from the entryway. We took a fantastic cooking class which was actually at the Cedar Gables Inn B&B (so wonderfully convenient) from Napa rebound Chef Sarah Scott, and the food was amazing. Additionally they had delicious wine pairings along with what we cooked! Susie made one of the best breakfasts I have ever had!! We left so incredibly happy and can't wait until our next visit!! Family-owned and run bed and breakfast. We had a mixup with the reservations (our fault) and the owner wasn't very pleased about it to the point that we were almost thrown out of the property, but in the end we cleared things up and ended up having a nice one night stay. Rooms: The rooms are small but very comfortable, there's hot water, TV with cable, air conditioner and a snack bar/fridge. Ambience: Rustic, family-like and very quiet place. Not good for small kids (I don't think they are allowed). Breakfast is served 8:30-9:30, I didn't get to taste but my party said it was ok, no room for changes or alterations in whatever they are serving that day. Not super hospitable place but the location is amazing, two blocks away. read more

Avoid this place!! I booked this hotel for a family travel. Unfortunately I booked through Chase reward points and didn't see the hotel guidelines of prohibiting child under 12yo on the property (building being too old). The owner verbally promised (he could claim otherwise) to refund my booking. If he had not done so, I would have taken the loss for not staying there since this was on the policy. But he mentioned genuinely that he felt sorry, and let Chase give him a call to cancel for a refund. Now Chase says he denied the refund according to their policy. This is a very horrible hotel, please note that it is not a hotel at all, because the picture is a very nice hotel, but it is a family hotel with only one waiter, either the host or the manager, no work clothes, no name brand, and most importantly, very rude attitude! The Horrible experience ever! It was my birthday and we booked this terrible place with my husband to celebrate it. For some of the reasons our card was declined and we gave a call to them to let them know that we are on the way and we will pay in the hotel. Once we came we saw that their so called hotel looks very different from the one on pictures, it's very old, dirty and had a bad smell. We asked the lady if we can see the room before we check in what is our absolute right!!! Then one Indian guy came and started to abuse us and basically kicked us out. He called us rats and just kicked us out from property when we asked what is that smell in the room. That was the terrible experience and birthday ever! Overall, the bed and breakfast is quiet and inside the rooms are fairly good. The shower was perfect, seemed to be newly renovated. As for cleanliness in the room, it was ok. We did notice some spiderwebs and there were a few bugs. In regards to the breakfast, similar to a few other reviews I recently read, options are not given for breakfast. The first day we were given eggs Benedict. I personally do not eat that so I was not happy nor full. Wish I would have read these reviews before going. Seems like the establishment is not listening to reviews because nothing seems to have changed. The lobby is very old looking. I understand the smell because of the older wood, but I would recommend possibly changing the furniture to make it a little warming/friendly feeling. read more

Definitely an escape from the real world. AND as I learned, never judge a book by it's cover, or in this case, an Inn by it's exterior. My boyfriend surprised me for our anniversary/ weekend getaway and I was definitely surprised. Upon first seeing Cedar Gables, I thought it was haunted (funny thing is, the Inn keepers warned us that our bookshelves might squeak open but that's just because they're hidden closets haha). Ken and Susie, the innkeepers, are the only ones that live at their Inn and they are magnificent hosts. Your stay here will be FILLED with Susie's delicious cooking (chocolate chip cookies, breakfast, wine and cheese). They really take care of you here and I love the amenities! We stayed in the beautiful and spacious Gables Suite. We had a tub in our room and they left a bath bomb for us. Our room also came with a small bottle of port, delicious! The bed was dressed with soft sheets and fluffy pillows. Ken and Susie also took the time to show us great wineries (they even gave us multiple coupons and free tastings!). During their social hour, we got the chance to get to know them over multiple glasses of their private inventory wine and unique cheeses. They have a fridge filled with drinks downstairs and a delicious coffee maker, which you are welcome to anytime during your stay. I can't wait to come back here! I am probably only echoing the other 5 star reviews, but I felt the need to add my two cents. We stayed at Cedar Gables for 3 nights in June and LOVED it. It was my birthday and our first trip to Napa, so we were thrilled to find such an gem in Cedar Gables. Ken and Susie were awesome and have such a great story. We were thrilled with the amazing breakfasts (French Toast Souffle is to die for, I have tried unsuccessfully to recreate it at home). Since we didn't know a lot about the area, Ken was great at giving us suggestions on restaurants and wineries to visit. When we decided Sunday was going to be "champagne tour" he gave us all the best places to go to. The tapas and wine in the evenings were a perfect wind down time before dinner and after a long strenuous day of wine tasting. Also, Cedar Gables was in walking distance of a lot of places to eat which was great for the evenings when we didn't want to get back in the car. I would recommend this place 1000 times over and can't wait to return! read more

Very disappointed in Managment. I received an email from Bottle Rock stating it was moved to Labor Day weekend. I immediately booked at Cedar Gables Inn that morning through Hotels.com. It looked very nice, was a great price, and the location was perfect. My reservation was confirmed through Hotels.com. An hour and a half later, i received an email from management at Cedar Gables Inn stating i had cancelled. I immediately called to state I in fact had not cancelled. I received a poor explanation that they were a small place and they received many reservation requests. The person on the phone acted as if it was a funny situation and stated there was nothing he could do. Having gone to Bottle Rock many times i know prices go up that weekend and I wouldn't be surprised if they knew they could make more money so cancelled me without any notice. So much time had passed that by the time i looked to book another hotel there was very limited options and what was available was more expensive. read more

No welcome anything expect "make sure you have your key and lock the door." No outdoor space for anything. Weird breakfast. Good coffee but at these prices there should be more. We would not go back. Thank you yelpers! I was looking for a B&B in Napa as a surprise getaway for my bf. Based on the pages of great reviews, I booked the Cedar Gables suite. If you are looking for just a basic, uneventful hotel-style room with a tv, don't stay here. If you want to have a charming room with character- I thought the suite was pretty fantastic! - and be pampered, fed well, and feel like you are among friends, then this is your place! I mean, why would you want to sit in your room and watch tv? You're surrounded by hundreds of wineries, several towns just a short drive away to stroll through and shop, and just mere blocks from downtown Napa! Of course, there is free wifi and a tv in the tavern if you really do want to watch. Ken and Susie greeted us at the door and right away, I knew I had picked the right place. They are so gracious, friendly, and willing to go the extra mile to ensure your stay is the best it can be. The place is just beautiful! (and the homemade cookies that were calling my name as we entered didn't hurt. I did make sure to walk by that plate a time. Or two. Or three?) Ken's recommendations for wineries were great - though we didn't make them all as we wanted to be back in time to hangout in the tavern for the wine and apps hour- as well as the suggestion on their web site for Cole's Chop House for dinner (be sure to make reservations well ahead of arriving for dinner for a prime time reservation on a weekend night). And breakfast. Where do I start? Homemade doughnuts - 3 different kinds!! - cappuccinos, lattes, coffee, tea, juice, the incredible breakfasts...you will not leave hungry. In fact, I almost had to be rolled out of there; the food was so good, I didn't want to stop eating. (They do cater to any dietary needs one may have though.) I did like the fact that they had the option of sitting with others at a big table for the meal, or several small tables to choose from as well. Make sure to take a peek in the kitchen - would love to come back again and stay again during a cooking class weekend. Our family just spent eight days in this beautiful historical charming home. Our son flew from Japan to spend time with us and his fiancé to tour Napa wine country. It was magnificent! We had a great time. The proprietor of this place John, is a real down to earth fellow who made us feel welcomed and was very accommodating and entertaining. The place is an old historical home which is why it makes it so unique and charming. Clean and very good service from the staff. Every morning we got fresh squeezed orange juice, fresh homemade toast and a surprised breakfast entree. Several evenings we spent time by the fireplace in the great room with a sparkling wine and snacks that was brought by us and other guest residing at the inn. Second time staying at a B&B and Ken Susie make that place. My fiancee and I were given a gift certificate there for our engagement and although it took us a bit we finally booked a weekend there. We were planning on staying in one of the smaller rooms but when we got there, we surprised to find out that they upgraded us to a suite for our engagement - awesome! The rooms have so much character and are really comfortable which make it easy to get settled in without feeling like you're at your everyday hotel. There was some delicious port waiting for us (one of Ken's favorites) and that set the weekend off. We woke to some magnificent smells coming from downstairs so we made our way into the kitchen to see what was up. Fresh lattes, juices, homemade pastries and french toast souffle that I definitely ate too much of. We missed a group gathering in the evening due to the much needed pre dinner nap after a few too many winery stops during the day. Sunday morning we were treated to another wonderful breakfast and some stories from Susie about the different kinds of people that had come through there. The new ownership is the worst hospitality management I have EVER experienced. I called 45 days before our stay because my credit card had been charged the full amount of our stay. I I had made my reservation a year in advance and was familiar with the 90 day no cancellation policy but there was never a mention of prepay. Hence, my call. I spoke perhaps 3 but no more than 5 sentences during the 5 minute call during which the man who answered the phone proceeded to tell me they charge at the time of booking (uh, no) and asked what if I didn't show up. I mentioned the no cancellation policy to which he launched into another rant about how I'd complain to my credit card company and he'd be out money. He was so rattled and nasty that I was a bit panicked because napa is notoriously booked Memorial Day weekend and I was now stuck staying in a B&B with an unhinged host. No way am I going to get another room at such a late date. The owner kept saying "this is our policy and if you don't like it I can cancel your reservation right now." Still, I've said very little because I'm in shock at the combative response to a simple inquiry AND I'm now afraid of staying at this Inn AND I'm afraid of losing my reservation - which apparently I've prepaid. Basically I'm dumbfounded. I asked the owner to try to calm down and that it was unfortunate that we'd gotten off on this foot given I was to be a guest in his Inn. He said NO, I was rude and insisted on arguing with him and he was cancelling my reservation and hung up on me. I swear!!! I stared at my phone for a few seconds before I started to cry. I'd booked this Inn a year ago under the old ownership for a very important weekend. I'd be hard pressed to find another room. Do Not trust this owner with your vacation. He is obviously new to hospitality and has no regard for reservations. At the very least, call and speak to him before you book. Get a feel for the B&B vibe of the new ownership. You'll be glad you did. read more

What a pleasant surprise. We recently stayed at Cedar Gables Inn for two nights. My husband and two other couple friends of ours were all more than pleased with the experience. We all had varied experiences at B&Bs, but this was by far better than we all expected. Ken and Susie, the owners, were extremely friendly and accommodating. There were many small, welcoming gestures along the way - such as the bottles of champagne in our rooms (we were celebrating anniversaries), made-to-order cappuccinos and lattes, wine tastings and cheese in the lounge area every evening (Friday's a vineyard comes in to discuss their wine), etc. The rooms were clean (obviously a little dated, but that's a B&B). But the best thing about the inn was the breakfast. Delicious, freshly-made scones, French toast soufflés, fresh fruit parfaits, egg/veggie croissant with bacon. We all loved the food and it saved us a lot of money vs. going out for breakfast that probably wouldn't have tasted half as good. If you're looking for a B&B in the area, definitely check this one out! read more

My wife and I had a wonderful two nights at Cedar Gables. They set us up for twin massages as we arrived, which put us in a perfectly relaxed mood for happy hour (which was Ken pouring in their tavern room) and then a tapas dinner we shared with a couple we met at happy hour. They also set us up for a winery tour the following day with Platypus (which I also recommend) and made dinner reservations for us at their local favorite, Celadon. Oh, and how can I forget the delicious breakfasts they made -- especially the french toast soufflee! We'll definitely go back the next time we can get away for a weekend in Napa, and we've already sent friends there. read more

This was my first time staying at a bed & breakfast, and unfortunately it was for a business trip so I didn't quite get the romantic Napa B&B experience I was hoping for. Even then I still had a great time! The inn is very intimate and the owners are super friendly and know you by name. You are greeted with a plate of chocolate chip cookies and a tour of the inn. In your room there is a carafe of port for a night cap, but I have to admit, I tried a bit right away :) Breakfast is amazing and put me in a food coma for the rest of the day. Be sure to eat the little donuts (or a dozen)! Seriously, I feel like all I did was eat the entire time. Rooms are very cozy and clean, although I felt like it was a bit chilly. And no, there are no TVs in the rooms, but there is wi-fi. My room faced the street and while I would hardly call it "noisy", I could definitely hear the cars going by. Be sure to give Cedar Gables a call and ask about their rooms because they're all different and some have hot tubs! read more

The hosts Susie and Ken are AMAZING. We have been treated like royalty our entire stay. The breakfast has been out of this world and made with fresh local organic ingredients. They offer wine and cheese for their guests every evening from 5:30 to 7 and we are occasionally entertained by Ken with his incredible singing and guitar playing. This B&B is a gem and well worth the stay. It's also within walking distance from some of the best local recommended restaurants. Love this location. Will definitely stay here again! read more

The Cedar Gables was the first bed and breakfast that my husband and I ever stayed in, and boy did it set the bar high for our expectations of B&Bs. First you are graciously greeted by Ken and Susie, the most welcoming inn keepers and truly wonderful people. Then you get to sign the guest book and are offered one of Susie's homemade decadent chocolate chip cookies. After you get settled into you room and make yourself feel at home, they will sit with you at the dining room table and give you wine tasting coupons, maps, and even make reservations for you for any activity you want to do, from limo tours of wineries, to hot air balloon rides, to dinner. Outstanding hospitality! In the evening you get to gather in the Tavern and relax with a complimentary glass or two of wine and enjoy some cheese and crackers and mingle with other guests and discuss your adventures you had that day, before heading out to dinner. In the morning, your taste buds will be tantalized by Susie's amazing breakfasts. (Trust me you will only need a small snack for lunch.) She is such a marvelous cook. My husband I have stayed here twice, and are planning to return again. I have stayed in a few other quaint bed and breakfasts, but nothing like the Cedar Gables.
