The food here is so tasty. The crushed lentil soup is amazing. Their fattoush salad is better than most other middle easters fattoush salads. There's nothing to complain about in the food department, that's for sure. DELICIOUS! As for the staff/ service? Eh. Whenever I call to place a lunch order, they are quick and brief with me on the phone... borderline rude. They don't ask for a name, and I'm always afraid they are going to mess up the order because they never repeat it back to you. (even when you feel your order is complicated) BUT, my order has never been messed up. Impressive, guys! Also, there have been times when I walked in and ONE person was doing everything. They were answering the phone, bussing and waiting tables, cashing out carry-out. I was so stressed for her. All the customers, as well as she, had to be extra patient because things were taking a little longer to get done. This has happened several times. Nonetheless, they seem to have it down. Service was very poor. In fact our waitress checked in on us once; bad attitude, no water refill, or request fulfilled for more garlic sauce. She was too busy outside smoking on the curb, in front of the business. Food was average in comparison to other similar establishments. Bathrooms were disgusting; not sure when the last time the door handle to the stall was wiped down. I have to lower my star rating for this restaurant, as it seems I've been finding more gristle in one of my favorite dishes there-the lamb schwarma. Had it been an isolated incident, I would have let it slide, but at least three times in a row, I've had to pull out big pieces of fat from my sandwich-YUCK. Two visits with family in the past month, both pleasing. Starter combo of hommous, baba ghannooj and tabbouli was fresh and delicious. Plenty of bread with it. Garlic spread was perfect balance; dip everything in it! Shawarma sandwiches (chicken and shish kafta) were great, and same in entree plate version were terrific. Whole or crushed lentil soup were spot on. Servers were pleasant and attentive. Elevated seating section near front looks good for larger group. Prices are very reasonable. Delicious middle eastern food. Our kids - and us - love the dips (hummus, baba ghanoush, "garlic dip" aka toum) and the fruit smoothies. Great lamb/chicken shawarma and kabobs. Recommend starting with either the crushed lentil or lemon chicken rice soup. You will get inconsistent service but everyone is generally very nice. read more

Cedar Garden, in my opinion is the best middle eastern restaurant in the area.that said the Cedar Garden restaurant that my wife and I frequented was in Dearborn Hts, sorry to say it closed down resently.I live in Westland Mi,it will be well worth the drive for there food. read more

Decent middle eastern food. Nothing special but not bad. Service, food, and prices were all average at best. Hummus was really good as was the bread. I ordered shush tawook sandwich it was ok but chicken was kind of fatty and mostly dark meat. Chicken shawarma was decent and the boneless chicken with rice was ok but I've had better. Always seated right away. Staff exceptionally nice. Food very authentic and my family loves this place. Prices on point but not a cheap dinner - worth every penny and I am cheap. This is a hidden gem that most over look this place has great food but best of all their free bread is amazing. They give you this bread that you can dip in their garlic sauce that is just magical. The place smells when you walk in the hot entrance. It is dirty and needs cleaning top to bottom. Don't like finding hair in the food or being stared at the entire time we are sitting there. The food at Cedar Garden is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G but I can't give this place a full 5-star rating because of the POOR customer service. When you order carry out, you're watched like a hawk (usually by one of the men) so they can be sure you're leaving them a tip. ...that's uncomfortable. Generally when you dine there, the men watch you. I don't know whether they're acting creepy or just are suspicious! Once I went in to pick up my carry out and it was about 30-45 minutes to close. A young waitress there seemed swamped by...I don't know, maybe three tables? Then a group of teens came in to order something to go and the waitress ignored them, but just started saying, "Allah Allah Allah" over and over again in a very frazzled way. I love their food and it's far better than Steve's Backroom on Jefferson, however their customer service really brings me down. I always order carry out over the phone and leave a small tip, but then run the hell out of there with my delicious whole lentil soup, falafel sandwiches, and extra garlic sauce. read more

I went to Cedar Garden yesterday and while the food was very good, it was a bit pricy ($52 + tip for three people). The service was not very good at all. In the end, we had one dining guest who was missing a salad, and rather than remove it from the check, the salad was packed up as a carry-out and packed. Of course, it made a big mess in the packed bag and in our refrigerator. I was not happy about this policy. I'd steer away from this one, unless you keep VERY CLOSE tabs on the staff. read more

Well hadn't been to Cedar Gardens in a couple of years...all other times good had been ok...this time we ordered take out...got it home - what a disappointment...ordered 2 Chicken Schwarmas...the chicken was incinerated...couldn't have been drier if it had been smoked for 3 months!...the potatoes were limp and greasy...and despite the fact that the food was immediately taken home - 2 miles and consumed upon arrival it was almost stone cold!...sorry but won't ever be eating there or take out again ...absolutely nauseating...almost forgot - the rice puddings were watery!! read more

I love Middle Eastern cuisine, and this place is decent. I'd give it a higher rating if my experience was more even. Some days I'll go in and get a fattoush with chicken and some garlic spread to go with the pita bread and it'll be fantastic, with fresh salad ingredients, the chicken hot and juicy, the pita perfectly hot and toasty out of the oven, etc., with service prompt, too. Soups are good, as are the sandwiches, the shish tawook, etc. When it's great, then I come back, and really love what they have to offer, but then ... on other days it's underwhelming. More often it's a case of going because I don't feel like driving too far ... Recently we went and the server was quick to bring us bread, the garlic spread (which is always fantastic, salad and entrees. However, the bread, while hot, was different, with an almost sweet edge that wasn't pleasant, and the texture was different -- not quite pita-like. I don't know if it's a one-time thing or not. The ghallaba was good, just good, with plenty of meat and veggies, and the salad was decent, though often they drown it in the dressing when it would be better with just a light coating. We ordered mango smoothies, and while they were good, they tasted more like strawberries than anything, and we've had really good mango smoothies there before, with real mango in them. Service started fast, but then as the place emptied out a bit we kind of felt left hanging ... we had to go search out to-go containers and go up to pay at the counter. It was like the server had forgotten us. So again, a wildly uneven experience in one visit. Again, sometimes they're great, and we keep on coming back, craving a fresh salad and that garlic spread, and then we have a really blah experience and stay away for a few months, until we're willing to give it a try again. Right now, I'm inclined to shake off my laziness and drive a bit farther out to a place with better food and service. read more

I've only been here once, but in one sitting I sampled so much of the food, I thought I was knowledgeable enough to give it 5 stars! ha First off, the bread is amazing. Soft, warm, fresh..little fluffy pillows of bread. Not like typical large, flat pita bread. You really need to try it with a side of "garlic dip/spread", mmmm (an additional $1.50 or so). The prices are really good, particularly the schwarma and other wraps, they were around $2 to $4. I split a huge "sampler" type meal with my cousin and we split the tab ($11 a peice) The crushed lentil soup is realy good....thick yet creamy. Not too bland, but not too overpowering. Just a good all-around flavor. The sampler meal (argh i dont remember what it's called) came with some soup or salad, Chicken, Beef, Lamb, rice, falafel, more garlic dip, hummus, and other condiments. I would really reccomend as a way to try many of their offerings at once. I've been to other middle eastern places around the East Side and this one is my favorite so far. Everything was just so good, and the people who work there are really friendly. They never placed judgement after re-filling our bread basket about 6 times haha. read more

First and last time I will ever go to Cedar Garden. Horrible from beginning to end. I called and placed a carryout order (super pleasant woman took my order) and with my order I asked for extra garlic spread. Woman advised me it would be 15 minutes. I walked in exactly 15 minutes later to pick up my order and approached the counter. Never greeted (just stared at) so I spoke first and said I had a carryout order and gave my name. The man (same man in the picture on this Yelp page) gave me the total and I handed him my credit card and at which point I asked if I could have MORE garlic spread. He looked at my crazy, ran my card, handed me the receipt to sign (I automatically added a gratuity) and then he began digging in my bag. Strange. He said that he gave me extra garlic spread already. I acknowledged this and advised that I now need more. He then hemmed and hawed and really struggled with my request. He kept touching my bag and telling me he already GAVE me extra garlic spread. To be clear, he didn't GIVE me anything....I paid for EVERYTHING; happily. I again acknowledged that I (paid for) got extra garlic spread but now I needed more "extra". He said it will be $1.75 to which I replied "great, I expected to pay for additional garlic spread". He then asked me AGAIN why did I need more garlic spread that he already GAVE me extra garlic spread. I then said, "nevermind, have a nice night". He stood there with the most smug look on his face and I grabbed my bag and started to leave. His partner, friend (I don't know who he was) intervened and asked what can he do, how can he help. Mind you, he and 2 other people from the restaurant were standing right next to us and heard everything. I repeated my request for the 4th time perhaps ( I was so irritated at this point) and he said, "sure, relax". Relax? I told him not to tell me to relax (so rude) and that I was perfectly fine....actually, I was trying to freaking leave! Sidebar: don't tell your customers to "relax"; it escalates a situation to a whole nother level unnecessarily. Now, all 3 of us are fussing back and forth and the manager/owner still doesn't want to LET ME PAY for more garlic. You'd think I was asking for gold and asking it to be free. FINALLY...after attempting to leave yet again, the other man gives me 2 extra garlic which I intended to pay for (insisted twice before) but then I just took it and left. It was the most bizarre, unpleasant, freak show experience I have ever had picking up stupid carryout. I was finally able to leave and left so completely irritated that I lost my appetite. I made my way home, got my appetite back and made a plate food. And, after all that, not only was the food pretty awful (likely the worst Middle Eastern I have every had...not kidding; totally flavorless and just...ick") but the freaking garlic spread was not good AT ALL. Not even a little bit. Threw all of it away. So, first experience with CG and the manager was a total A-HOLE and the food was unappetizing....at best. I took a chance and lost. Great $30 lesson. I will say, even had the food been at least decent, I would never ever go back there. To be treated that way over garlic spread....unbelievable. Eatten here for years; guests are always impressed. Reasonable value, though not inexpensive. Expansive menu, consistent quality of cuisine.
