I paid for a viewing of my husbands body at the crematorium. Upon arrival they didn't know we were coming and were not ready despite David Estephan saying they would be ready and take good care of us. When they finally said we could see him, he was basically in a big white plastic bag spattered with blood from the autopsy. It was traumatizing and completely unacceptable. I requested a refund of the viewing portion and was told I'd receive it. I never got it and he did not respond to my requests. He was very hard to get a hold of and not dependable. At one point he told me my husband weighed over 300 lbs and I'd have to pay extra. I told him that was impossible. Then he finally said "oh it looks like my guy weighed the gurney too". I wish there was a zero or negative review. I'm writing this on 5/29/24 and my aunt died on 8/20/23. That's right. it's been ALMOST A YEAR and we don't have my aunts remains yet. I haven't spoken to them in about 5 months. they haven't called me back or emailed me back in longer. They already have our money and we were given some run around 3 months in about how coroner wasn't releasing body and blah blah blah. Now we can't actually talk to anyone or get any information or know if my aunt is even cremated or still just sitting there. MY COUSIN JUST WANTS HER MOM BACK. When my uncle passed away unexpectedly, i called around a couple places and was very surprised at the prices quoted for a simple cremation - some in the thousands of dollars. David was honest in the pricing, disclosed what came and didn't come with the service, and gave me an accurate timeline of what to expect. When i went to pick up my uncle, i was floored by the wall of hundreds of thank you notes and letters in David's office -- these guys have been doing this for years, with the utmost professionalism and sensitivity. This place actually managed to accentuate our grief with their mismanagement. My beloved friend passed away on 6/29 and was not cremated until 9/15. I finally got the ashes about 10 days later when I went to the crematory myself to pick them up. I also had to get the death certificates myself after waiting forever on 11/30. These are not the people you want to deal with when you've suffered a loss. They are not nice, not good at communicating and really don't give a darn about families. They delayed the death certificate, took 2 weeks to cremate my loved one, and did not even bother to contact me to tell me the ashes were ready to be picked up. They do not even deserve a minus rating and definitely not the one star they are getting but you have no choice but to give it to them if you want to post a review. The person who owns and runs Cedar Hill should not be in any kind of business especially a mortuary. Their website indicates they are open and available 24 hours a day and yet no matter what time you call they do not answer and no response to the messages. After several attempts I gave up and found another mortuary who had a very good price, responded to my messages and emails in a timely matter, compassionate and were helpful during the whole time. I wish I checked Cedar Hills's reviews before I contacted them the first time and saved myself the aggravation and unnecessary stress. After reading the negative reviews, which are 100% correct, and the horrible experience I had I am actually very relieved that they did not answer and did not handle the arrangements. The idea that my loved one could have ended in their care gives me nightmares. Can you imagine not being able to get hold of the mortuary that have someone you love and just lost? I should thank them for being the unprofessional people they are and did not answer the phone. I dodged a bullet. Losing someone is the hardest thing you can go through. You want to honor your loved one but Cedar Hill does not let you do that and add to your stress. Too good to be true. During such a hard time in one's life, a mortuary should make things easier, not harder. After research, my family chose Cedar Hill due to cost. At first, the owner was very accommodating, friendly and understanding. Then, everything fell apart: - office staff is rude and unorganized - my family had to be the ones initiating all conversations - they kept my family member in third party mortuary 5 days after he was supposed to be cremated and then lied about it (I confirmed the real story with a third party and office staff let it slip after my pressing for information) - owner said they would take care of death certificate within two weeks - two weeks later they said it would be three more weeks - as my family was on a time crunch (we explained this to the owner from day one) we had to pick up death cert ourselves from county office - third party company also confirmed this company is very unorganized and all over the place This company made a very difficult time for my family an even worse experience. I would never recommend this mortuary to anyone. Not even for the lower cost!! read more

Once they get paid, be prepared to jump through hoops, get strung along, beg and plead, etc. They do not care once you have paid for your loved one to be handled. They ONLY care about money. They don't care about you, they don't care about your loved one, they don't care about your family, they care about MONEY. The good customer service ends after payment. The concern ends after payment. The communication ends after payment. You have to fight for certificates. You have to fight for a call back. You have to fight for contact. Death is stressful enough. I read all the other reviews and I am shocked at the bad reviews, especially if they mention Tania, because I had a really professional and comforting experience with her. It was the first death I ever had to experience dealing with, and Tania was great. My loved one was picked up from the city morgue by Cedar Hill, and then taken to be cremated. I went down to the office and paid by check. They arranged for the death certificates, and when the remains were ready to be picked up, I went down to the address on Colorado, again, and picked them up. Nobody rushed me, as we still had not decided on what to do with the remains. I either picked up the death certificates from them later, or they mailed them to us, I can't remember. Make sure to get multiple copies, as you will probably need them for different things. Ask Tania about this. It was a very simple and stress free process at a difficult time. Nobody tried to sell us on anything extra, the remains came in a free and dignified container, and it was very inexpensive compared to everywhere else I checked, and I did a lot of looking around. I think some mortuaries probably try to take advantage of people during their time of grief, and try to sell them on things that people really can't afford and aren't necessary. Cedar Hill didn't do this with me. I would also like to add for people who haven't thought about this and are suddenly dealing with this painful situation, I think cremation is an appropriate and dignified way to send off a loved one. This is the WORST place to entrust your loved ones to be taken care of. The owner is also the same guy who picks up your family member from their final resting place. He promises dates that he doesn't keep to. Nor does he manage the mortuary as he is never their and his staff tells you that he "doesn't have a set schedule" after filing all paperwork and paying them the B.S. began. I let him know that we had 30 days to pick my father up who was a victim of COVID-19. He promised to pick my father up in 4 days and didn't for almost two weeks. When I complained to his terrible staff (which barely talked English and was a one person answering service that never had any information, Tonia r Nicole but sounded like the same person) They told me to take it or leave it after waiting on them the entire time. They left me with 4 days in order to find another mortuary and arrange pick up. They never picked up my father, cancelled my contract with them and said its their discretion who they decide to do business with. I would not use this place to bury my GOLDFISH! The owner David Estaphan is a scumbag scam artist that promises you the moon to get your business and then you never hear from him again. This place has been a nightmare for me and my family to deal with, and took advantage of our elderly father when our mother died. They were completely non-communicative about her remains and when we asked for an invoice, they sent him confidential information about another family's deceased loved one. We are submitting complaints to BBB and the state licensing board. They abandoned our mother's body (not literally, but it certainly felt that way), overcharged is for work they never did, and we basically had to chase them down at every step. DO NOT use this company. They are either frauds, or a front for something, or completely incompetent. In any case, DO NOT use them. Red Flag #1: Only one person arrived so that my husband had to help carry my mother's body out of the house. Red Flag #2: No one called us the next day. Or the next. When I left a message, no one called back. Red Flag #3: Finally, after the social worker called on our behalf, someone called me back. No condolences or apologies, just a guy who told me we still had forms to fill out. (How would we have known?) He said he'd email them to my father, but he never did. Finally, after we called again, he emailed them to me from a personal email, no indication of any business information in the address or body of the email. I decided (finally) to go with another mortuary. Immediately after they picked up the body, Cedar Hill called my father to charge him. They quoted him a rate of $275, which they insisted was for transfer of body and completion of death certificate. I wish he hadn't paid, but he did. How easy it is to take advantage of elderly people in grief and shock. He asked for an invoice, and they emailed him another family's paperwork! A clear HIPA violation. And the death certificate they they charged him for wasn't completed. These people are the worst. I don't know what they're doing, but don't let them do it to you or your loved ones. No one should have to go through this as they're grieving. Or ever. read more

Worst services in the world... My father passed away on 11/27/20, it took them over a month and half to provide me with the remains. When I went to pick up the remains, they gave me the wrong paper work, they gave me paper work for someone that passed a year ago. I questioned them and they told me that was all they had. They then looked further and gave me the right paper work, but I have no idea if I received my father's remains or someone else... This is so heart breaking to me... I will always have doubts thanks to this incompetent organization. Also, they still have not provided me with the death certificates that I ordered, they tell me the County has not sent them. They say they ordered them on 12/9/20, however, according to the Dept. of Public Health, they have no order for them. I now have no confidence that I will ever get the death certificate unless I order them myself. PLEASE THINK BEFORE CALLING THIS COMPANY FOR SERVICES... My father requested that we get him cremated in the least expensive way possible with no frills when he passed away. Unfortunately, that time came earlier this year, and I was lucky enough to find Cedar Hills Mortuary online when looking for a direct cremation provider. I called them, they e-mailed me a bunch of paperwork to fill out, and I sent it back later that day. About a week and a half later we were able to pick up my father's cremains and they now reside on a bookshelf where he would have wanted to be. It was simple, inexpensive, and they did a great job in making it happen. If you want a no frills direct cremation, it's hard to beat them. read more

This place is truly unprofessional. Before my father passed away, I called to ask for price quotes. I was given a decent quote for the services and burial I wanted for him. The day of his death I called this mortuary to have his remain picked up. I should have known from the beginning this place was too good to be true. They came in an old van to pick up my father. The Monday that followed his death, I arrived at the mortuary office to be rudely greeted by the secretary. No condolences were given. When I asked where my father's remains were, she had no clue who I was talking about. Of course I was upset, but remained calm. After 10 minutes of making phone calls, she finally located my father. Her excuse was the she didn't work weekends so she didn't need to know. Without going over the papers, she handed them over to my mother and wanted her to blindly sign. I stopped her and asked her to explain what the papers were. She began to tell us that they were for cremation. Another careless mistake. We had clearly asked for an open-casket burial. Thank God that this country doesn't allow for cremation until written consent is given. My mother was livid. So instead of continuing with these awful services, I moved my father over to Forest Lawn. Before releasing the body, this place was quick to charge my credit card for the removal. Do not go here. They treat you like a number and do not have an organized system. read more

A close friend died unexpectedly with no will or family in the states. He was born in England and his siblings were still living there. After his death his sisters did not want to travel to the states to take care of his burial. I took on the task of taking care of things for them here. After speaking with the Neptune society and dealing with their rudeness, a friend recommended Cedar Hill. They were so incredibly nice, I called couple of times and David explained everything to me. I accompanied my wife to pick up her mother's cremated remains and I have never encountered such a cold-hearted woman as the one we dealt with. At a time when compassion was necessary, she did not even offer us a seat. My wife was reeling quite a bit, so, when this same woman asked for id, my wife did not hear her the first time. The second time she asked, she was so rude, like she was barking orders, that I just wanted to come over the desk and wring her neck. I did not do that out of respect for my mother-in-law.
