BEST INDIAN FOOD ON THE AVE! If people don't know what the ave is, but it's an entire ave filled of food and lots of boba places at University District. I personally don't like Indian and it's because of the intense smell of spices from the curry and other dishes. But my friends convince that I should try cedars. Walking in I feel like I'm someone home, it was cozy with the dem lights. I got the butter chicken, Nan bread and my friends got malsala with cheese. I found it interesting that they have a curry with cheese. Overall the dishes were really delicious and flavor (very buttery). And i barely smell any strong sense of species. It was very light. Rating: 5/5 butter chicken: most popular dishes here. Very butter and the chicken is really soft. And not chewy 4/5 Malsal with cheese: not bad it's the butter chicken but without the chicken they had cubes of cheese. read more

Cedars never disappoints. This time I got shahi korma chicken and garlic naan. It was my first time trying this dish since I usually get the butter chicken. I'm super glad I tried something new! I have only ordered take out from cedars but the interior is very cozy and I definitely plan to dine in sometime soon. Also, as my friend and I were picking up our food the man at the greeting desk kindly offered us complimentary chai tea to go. We went for dinner at this place in a weekday. They surprised us with everything we ordered. The masala chai was amazing. We ordered platters and all the items were really good. We ended our meal with dal tadka and it was perfect. They have two spice levels, one normal spice level and another is indian spice level, which was really interesting and we ordered everything with indian spice level. It was perfect. Pretty good Indian cuisine! I have yet to dine in yet, but it looks like a descent place especially for Udistrict. We normally stick to a couple dishes on rotation because I'll admit I like what I like. And when it's made right I'll want just that! Items on rotation: garlic naan, royal briyani, tandoori chicken, aloo gobi, and the mango lassi. The mango lassi is delicious it really soothes the spice and clears my palate. Some dishes I get are 3 stars or even 4 stars so they're pretty spicy. But the mango lassi saves me from a sizzling tongue. Also their basmati rice is aromatic, cooked perfectly and fresh. I have a couple reasons why I rated this restaurant three stars opposed to four. My first time trying Cedars I got the tandoori salmon and it was the driest piece of fish I ever had. Just a couple cooking minutes shy of becoming salmon jerky. It also had two huge thermometer holes that took me a moment to figure out what they were, it was just a bit off putting accompanying it being so dry. Also when ordering through Uber the entrees arrived as appetizers. No where near the normal size when calling in/carry out. As well as the dishes we happened to order was lacking the main ingredient's they were supposed to have which never happened before. On top of that the price was more through Uber so it just didn't feel worth it at all. That same order they had ran out of mango lassi and didn't call for my preference they just swapped it out with a strawberry juice that just tasted so artificial. Like some low quality snow cone syrup. Not suggested if you don't like fake flavorings taste. Other than those critiques from my most recent order their food is pretty tasty and fresh! Despite those cons I would still order food there and suggest this to anyone wanting yummy Indian food! read more

Cedars is my go to Indian spot in U District! They consistently keep the same delicious and enhanced flavor of food! My favorite thing to order is the Mango Curry Chicken. It's tangy and always hits the spot when I'm starving! Along with the Mango Curry Chicken, the garlic naan is so crispy and breaks off really well. Such a good combo! When you order, they also give you two types of chutney. I'm not sure what types but one is green and the other is brown. The green chutney is cilantro and is savory and salty, while the brown one is more sweet. I personally prefer the brown one. Keep Cedars on your list of places to go! read more

TLDR: great restaurant with good food, a lot of options (vegan options as well), cozy environment, free parking available and great service though it might be hard to get the attention your server. Atmosphere: dimly lit, super cozy and homey. It is perfect for catching up with friends, date night or dinner with family. There are lots of tables and is great for big groups. There's a QR code on each table to view the menu. Bonus point: I like that the online menu has the option to talk to a server or request the paper menu, though it is further down the online menu. There are lots of options including vegan options. There are pictures for every menu item so that helps! Food: Their menu has so many options that we took a lot of time to read through and decide. Wings: very flavorful, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, though they are a little burned. Cedars nan: really good, the nan is massive! Curry specialies with lamb: big portion of curry, comes with rice. It is pretty good but does not make an impression on me. The restaurant also gives 2 jars of sauces (I'm not sure what they are) but they are amazing and go great with nan and everything else! Service: the food came really fast! The server checked up on us to see if everything was okay once we got our food. However, it was pretty hard for us to get the attention of the server. They walked so quickly to deliver food to nearby tables but walked away so fast we couldn't get a hold of them. The restaurant was pretty busy so I can understand their efficiency. However the interaction with our server was amazing, she was so nice. This definitely left a good impression on us! Parking: free validated parking in front of the restaurant but each slot is fairly small, and it fills up quickly. It is a bonus point since it's not easy to find parking in this area. There are nearby street parkings you can find if this lot fills up. Overall, I love the ambience, the food and service here. I'll definitely come back. read more

Went here with some friends and was really excited, because I love Indian food! But unfortunately I found a big bug in my food after eating 1/4th of the food. Definitely not a place I would go to for Indian food. Despite asking for the food medium hot, it was fairly bland and lacking those bold flavours this kind of cuisine is usually known for. Their Chicken Tikka Masala was very sweet and tasted a lot more like butter chicken. The garlic naans were very thick and filling, they tasted good but the texture was not to my liking. Honestly I prefer thinner naans because it's easier to eat with my hands as well. The only plus side is that the food came out of the kitchen in under fifteen minutes. The servers were attentive and the atmosphere was comfortable. I love the windows around the restaurant and the cozy vibe. read more

Went here for the first time tonight. Unfortunately the paneer tikka masala was overpriced and bland, with a tomato paste flavor, not fresh. I ordered medium hot but there was no spice. My friend had tandoori salmon that was decent. The garlic naan was the highlight of the meal. Service was minimal, but they did keep our water filled.
