This restaurant has friendly employees, nice old-world architecture, and a good location. But last night the dinner I ate at Cedars was the worst Indian food I've ever eaten. I ordered the Vegetable Delight. Some of it was so old and overcooked it was too tough to eat and had to be left on the plate, and some of the rest of it was old enough to be dry and tough but eatable. And the naan was slightly burned. They probably also have good food. I haven't been there in a long time, so can't give a broad brush review of their overall menu and performance. read more

Dinner for six at table on Dec. 23rd. Place almost deserted. Absolutely no ambience and little attention from waitstaff. Some food was adequate but as a frequent diner of Indian food this was substandard. I had the Chicken Palak Masala. The spinach sauce was gummy and barely edible and there were few (and I mean few) pieces of chicken in the dish. My granddaughter picked out some of the chicken in her dish to give to me to make for a barely adequate meal! Although I didn't taste everything, one person ordered the grape leaves which were absolutely terrible. Tiny and filled with mushy rice--probably from a jar as the rice served with the meals was fine. But there was room for improvement in my experience due to a less than ideal customer experience and one-dimensional flavors. Service: 3/5: The server was nice but we had some difficulty communicating since they did not understand the word vegan, which is difficult to excuse since it is a major dietary restriction. They also did not seem to have a good grasp of the menu and mistakenly told us of a paneer option that didn't exist. Food: 3/5: The naan was huge, two thumbs up! But my veggie curry really made me miss the meat since it had no depth of flavor, just sweetness. It was fine but lacked that velvety richness that I crave in curries. I have been eating grim here for the past 3 years and I absolutely love it! Everything is delicious but I personally like the coconut chicken curry with an order of garlic naan and hummus! Everyone is always super kind and on extremely hot/cold days they will offer you a drink on the house when you go in person to alleviate the weather conditions. The restaurant atmosphere is great too, but I'm a home body so I have done take out more often than eating there. I definitely recommend this place!! read more

The first time I came here, I would've rated Cedars Restaurant a 2/5, but I think there's specific items to stay away from and specific ones to gravitate towards. The first time around, I ordered the tandoori chicken plate -- it was dry, overpriced, used frozen veggies with no flavor -- honestly not the best at all. However, high points are the naan: the garlic naan is so flavorful, and paired with any of their chicken tikka masalas or other sauce based dishes (I'm sure), it's wonderful. Besides the naan, their portions/price ratio could use some improvement. I do have to mention though that you have to order through the QR code on each table, and so there's almost no face to face service, which is completely fine -- just not a totally sit down dining experience. Overall, this wouldn't be my first Indian cuisine recommendation, but it definitely has high points worth visiting for! read more

I'm writing an update for the dine-in experience, now that I've stopped by a couple of times. In both instances, I've brought out-of-town guests who are unfamiliar with Indian food or have eaten it only once or twice. Everyone enjoyed the food thoroughly. 8 Thumbs up both times. Ordering is done at the table with a QR code. The software could be a bit more intelligent. Unless you put your name down, the menu doesn't come up. The rest of us decided to just google it and have one person place the order. The food arrived super-fast. After the food was delivered, the servers disappeared until it's time for the check. LOL. That's ok. They have a healthy stream of take-out orders occupying the limited staff's attention. At these times of limited workforce, it is what it is. The Food (from two different visits): Spinach Naan $5.99, Garlic Naan $4.99 - 5 Stars Both are dope, as my niece would say. She's highly jealous that spinach naan is a thing here, not where she comes from. Anyway, she inhales these, same as everyone else. The flavor, crispness, and plentiful spinach, garlic are all fantastic. Also, they are HUGE. They are both about 2x the size of a head. After a show at the Neptune Theater, we were looking for a place to eat. Originally we were going to a Korean restaurant, but they were closed. We were really disappointed. So in our search for open restaurants, we were lucky that Cedars was open until 9:30. The restaurant is on the second floor and the entrance is on the side street. When we went inside it had a homey feeling and the smells were amazing! We were starving! What was great is that our friend is a vegan and we were worried that at that late hour, we could not find somewhere that could accommodate her diet. Luckily Cedars has a great selection of Vegan items! The staff was really nice and helpful and explained the dishes to us very patiently. We ordered the Garlic Naan for my husband and me and we all shared the Mango Curry, Royal Biryani, and the Vindaloo. Everything was so flavorful and yummy. My husband thought the Mango Curry was a little too sweet, but I thought it made a perfect balance for a lot of savory dishes. The Mango Curry was awesome. Actually, everything was awesome! I told my husband we have to come back here to try some of the other dishes. We're definitely going to come back for some great Indian food. I highly recommend Cedars. read more

This is my third visit, and once again, I am leaving with a full stomach and a full heart of joy. The food here is soo good, the atmosphere is very inviting, and the staff are extremely delightful and friendly. I ordered the chicken Tikka Masala ($18.99), Mango Lassi ($5.95), and Garlic Naan ($4.99). The Tikka Masala was extremely tasty and had a lot of flavor and spice. It paired really well with the garlic naan, which was extremely soft with a delicious hint of garlic. The dish also came with compliment basmati rice which was really good for it just be rice. The mango lassi was good, but it reminded me of smoother mango yogurt though. The restaurant itself had a dark nice cozy fine dining vibe, but it was small where it was apparent that it was a local business. The location however is a bit further from the UW campus (about 15 minutes), but completely worth it. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, I felt really appreciated and valued as a customer. They don't take your order, you check the menu and order directly with your phone via QR code. Stopped by Cedars while on vacation in Seattle off the recommendation of some friends! It was during the heat wave, and they had the AC units running full blast but it was still a bit warm indoors, but we understood that given the extenuating circumstances. My fiance and I split a lamb kabob rice plate and a tandoori cod rice plate. The lamb was juicy and flavorful and not too tough, and the cod was flaky and moist as well. Wasn't a huge fan of the steamed vegetables on the side but the rice was nicely cooked as well. I wanted to try out a new Indian restaurant and found Cedars. They have some Mediterranean dishes too, but we decided to stick to Indian, ordering a plate of samosas to start followed by butter chicken, veg kofta, and two garlic naans. The food was served within 5-10 minutes - maybe because the restaurant was a bit empty on the weekday evening. The naans here are huge, and they also serve rice with the curries. We ordered our curries to be "hot" spicy, and they really did light my tongue on fire, unlike some other Indian places where the hottest spice level barely manages to tingle my taste buds. The two gravies looked almost exactly similar though. The chicken was really tasty, but the koftas were passable. We got a ras malai for dessert which was good but not the best. Food: Butter Chicken was so flavorful packed with many spices. The Pesto Naan was the biggest and best naan i've had so far! If you love pesto I would highly recommend this. The rice was interestingly mushy. I'm not sure if that is normal for this place but it was the most mushiest rice i've ever had in an Indian place. We were craving indian food and this place was nearby so we decided to check them out. Since we had other food plans, we decided to share a meal and had it to go. We got the butter chicken which comes with rice. We also got the plain naan bread. The butter chicken was probably one of the better butter chicken I had. The chicken was super tender and I love the flavor of the curry. The rice was standard, nothing spectacular. At first, I thought the price was a little high, but after I see the amount of food you get, I can see why. The naan was another hit! I usually try to get the plain naan or the garlic naan as a way to rate a place and this plain naan was amazing. It's not the ordinary naan that you usually get, it's like a cross between a regular naan and a roti. The texture was like a roti and it's thinner as well but it still have that familiarity of a naan. It absorb well and was delicious. I also love that green sauce. I usually don't eat a lot of it because it tends to get either too sour or too sweet but this one was just right that I ate the entire thing. Overall, another really good indian place near UW. I've been a regular patron of Cedars since my UW college days and it's my go-to place for Indian food. My typical order is the Butter Chicken, Aloo Gobi, and two orders of Garlic Naan. Also, included with your entrée is basmati rice. The garlic naan is both delicious and a great deal because it's as large as a medium-sized pizza. In my opinion, one order of garlic naan can probably feed 3-4 people comfortably. The naan also comes in multiple flavors if you're not a fan of garlic and also includes coriander and tamarind chutney sauces. The price of the naan has increased over the years, but I still think it's worth it. You can place an online order to-go via the Cedars website: cedarsseattle.com. Hadn't been to this spot in years, but a friend who used to work in U took me there a decade ago. I couldn't recall specifics of it, but knew it was a good idea to try it again tonight. It was! Because we're dumb it took us a bit to realize that choosing digital menu also meant they expected us to place our order via it. Once we sorted that, it was on! We tapped away at a what looked good, and almost immediately drinks and then food poured out of the kitchen. While we appeared to have a dedicated server, the food was delivered by whomever was close to kitchen when it was ready. It felt rather indulgent to be taken care of like that. Tandoori chicken, naan, vegetables samosas, chickpeas & potatoes (name of dish is escaping me now but that's what it was) were all top flight. We even tried a pair of the flavored lemonades and they were tasty. Whatever brand of juice Cedars buys, I want to find it. Because the world is insane, tipping a meal like this is confusing. The service we got? Amazing. But literally all that happened is they delivered food we sent orders to kitchen and then I paid via my phone. We tipped well because why not take care of those who took care of us? But it's a weird world and I can't keep up with how to navigate tipping anymore. Only suggestion I have is to scrap the vegetables added to most entrees. They're using what I assume are cheap frozen vegetables, that come out bland and, frankly, gross. They're actually cooked well; not mushy. Just, yuck. Great place to take a group for a casual meal and a great value. This is one of my family's favorites so when I received a coupon in the mail - I called everyone up and scheduled us for a Sunday at 1pm! Plenty of tables and space, though the parking lot was rather full - try street parking to the north, we found a spot close by. We got chai, three entrees, two salads and two garlic naan for a party of 5 . For entrees we chose Curry prawns, butter lamb, and chicken tikka masala - everything was delicious and generous, the chai is sweet and rich and they give a refill, and as seen in the image, the garlic nan is not messing around - its huge, fluffy and awesome! The main dishes are also served with plates of rice so maybe just get one or the other or you may find yourself very carbo-loaded! Haha Really reliable stop for a relaxed, casual meal. Best spot for Indian food near UW! There is a parking lot next to the restaurant with limited spots but it should not be that difficult to find street parking nearby. Service is friendly and fast and you order everything through your phone by scanning a QR code. Garlic naan is definitely a must get as the sauces that come with it are delicious and really enhance the naan. My friends went here after seeing the cherry blossoms at UW Seattle. This place is just as awesome tasting as I remember. They gave us giant naan bread, had delicious dishes, and amazing customer service. At the end they treated us to baklava! So kind.
