Best wine tasting experience we've ever had! This was an unplanned stop on our way home from Santa Rosa. Fortunately for us, one of the founders Amelia, was at the helm. She imparted her knowledge and wonderful history to us while pouring us the most beautiful and delicious wines. The Merlot has ruined all other Merlots for me. I highly recommend this winery and it's going at the top of my list when people ask me of places to go in Napa. I've been wanting to visit forever, since I read all the ace reviews on yelp, so when Beau suggested a private tasting during our most recent wine trip, I jumped at the chance. I was not disappointed. As Blake R mentioned, Ariel Ceja was an awesome host, putting up with us, and teaching us about the wine and the winery's history...and telling us all the other cool things the winery is involved with (cooking and salsa dancing!). We got to enjoy their regulation size Bocci ball court and do our tasting outside. I adored every wine I tried and plan to join their wine club (don't tell my husband tho, It's going to be a surprise). I checked with Wendy and she mentioned it's perfectly fine to pick up the wine to avoid shipping, and they even hold pick up parties so it sounds perfect! Had been looking forward to stopping there and made a reservation for our 37th anniversary. Could not get out of there soon enough. No customer service, you feel like a cattle drive as your just another person in there. the wine is good but you might at well buy a bottle and take it home and save the $30 wine tasting fee. read more

I planned a trip to NoCal for my 30th birthday and made a stop here for our wine tasting day. We were a large group of 12 adults and 2 babies (our reservation was made months in advance) and were greeting with warmth and friendliness! The wine was on point and was paired with a personal touch of the family's history and its family members. Of all the wineries we visited for April in Carneros, this is #1. They had tacos, live music, truffles, oils, great wine and a great staff. The reserve tasting was an extra $5 and the proceeds went to benefit education. There's a homely patio area that could be anyone's backyard but with bocce ball. Being in the house was like being at home.. They were very welcoming. Saturday nights they offer free salsa lessons.. It was just a very warm place and we all had the best time there. read more

YIPPIEE!!! Not only are the wines at this place fantastic but the M E N are equally as delicious! Yay - and I want to thank the 50 year old HOT looking dirty cougars who hit on my younger husband for the ENTIRE night while we were there!! WEEEEE! It was personally fun for me to see him get whisked off to the dance floor several times by these hot cougars married to 70 and 80 year old men! I could not have been prouder and not have been more delighted by the DJ, the wine (lot's of whites this night for some reason) and the tasteful, flavorful and flirty cheese plate that I bought for all of us! THEY HAVE BOCCE BALL HERE. TWO COURTS!! This family run winery is beautiful. It was the first time I really liked the regular house red wine, and the wines were affordable. They have outdoor seating so you can have lunch under an umbrella, and they sit you down inside at their dining room table (it used to be a bed and breakfast) for your tastings. Ceja Vineyards is one of the best wineries to visit in Carneros. Not only are the wines delicious, but the owners are wonderful people. Owner Amelia Ceja is the first Mexican-American Woman to own a winery in Napa Valley. Her husband Pedro, brother in law Armando, and sister in law Martha Ceja all banned together to create an incredible wine brand. And now the next generation is making strides. Daughter of Amelia - Dalia is working hard to grow the wine brand to the next level and Belen - Dalia's cousin has started to help significantly with the winemaking. Yay for female run wineries!! Dalia was our tasting guide and we had an absolute blast! Dalia is a joy to be around and is truly proud of her family's wines. She started us off with some Chardonnay sourced from the grapes on the estate property. She walked us around the grounds as we sipped on the delicious and refreshing wine. Once she gave us a tour of the grounds we went back into the tasting lounge to enjoy samples of their Pinot Noirs, Red Blends, and dessert wines. Every wine is incredibly well balanced and super flavorful. We ended up going home with a case because they were all so tasty. Also, their winery is attached to a brewery - Carneros Brewing Company - so if people in your party are more interested in enjoying a beer this is a great place to visit. They have games you can play outside and lovely areas around the winery/brewery to sit and enjoy a bottle or two ;). I try not to join single winery wine clubs. No matter how much I love a winery, eventually I look in my little cabinet and see way too many bottles by one winemaker, which makes me panic and think I'm not being adventurous enough, which makes me run out and purchase an assorted case some place, which makes my wallet whimper and my little wine cabinet overstuffed, which forces me to drink several bottles - usually with friends and tons of very 'bad for me' food, which ensures I don't fit into my favorite jeans, which makes me depressed, which has me reaching into the cabinet for a bottle, which... I could go on but I think you get the picture. Vicious cycle - honestly. So why did I join the Ceja wine club? Besides the delicious, food friendly wine, I really like the story of this family, the fantastically friendly atmosphere of the winery, that they saved us from getting lost on some tiny back road and the wonderful fact that I now have a quarterly excuse to come up for a fiesta in Napa. Five point one stars.... this is what Napa and wine is all about. First of all, the wine is good. Carneros is the place for Pinot Noir, and the pinot here is as tasty as it gets. $40 is a lot but at this quality level it's a good buy. Second, in case you haven't heard, the backstory here is as cool as it gets. In the 1960s a family from a small Mexican village immigrates to work the Napa fields. In the 1980s the children save up enough money to buy a few acres, and start their own winery. As a tasting experience, again, this is the real deal. Call ahead and set up an appointment, from the end of the driveway even, and they'll welcome you. It's a medium size villa, nicely landscaped, in a sea of gravel parking, with a bocce court and terrace outside. You feel like you're in a lavish guest house. If Ariel is pouring he narrates in a mile a minute soft spoken wine geek patois, if you catch even 10% of what he's saying you get a huge education in wine. It's in the flats, midway through a forgotten loop of bumpy road well off the highway, even lost people can't find it, you need a good map and a GPS. But the folks the area sing their praises, they buy wine grapes from here, Amelia (the President, Ariel's mom) is locally famous for her cooking. Tasting fee of $15 is worth it but there are 2-for-one coupons, and they're likely flexible. read more

No, I love the Ceja's more than the other Yelpers! I probably go to at least 25 wineries a year. I've been going to Ceja for several years, wine club member, brought many groups of friends, etc. I know a lot about them, drink a lot of their wine. It's hard to write a review when there are so many terrific things to say about Ceja. My favorite things about Ceja: 1) The wine is consistently delicious, especially so with food. I am increasingly interested in blends, and both of the Vino de Casas are favorites at home. 2) The Carneros winery is a great setting. The tasting room, bocce ball court, gardens and vineyard are beautiful, and a reflection of the family perspective on wine, food, and people. 3) Their perspective. Really good wine is made with a distinct perspective. Wanna learn what a farmer perspective is on wine? Go to Ceja. I could say more, but they are better at it than me. 4) The Cejas. I can't describe how welcoming the family is - seriously, I would actually be embarassed to say. Like being super knowledgeable and genuinely nice isn't enough. I can't imagine anyone going there and not feeling well treated. And their story on how the came to be here is truly special. read more

Ariel was the best! We got there at around 11am and there was just another couple doing a tasting. The tasting was very intimate and welcoming. We learned about the history of the winery and learned alot about their wines which we enjoyed. We had a tasting of sauvignon blanc, rose, pinot noir, syrah and Ariel added a dessert wine. We enjoyed the rose very much and bought a bottle along with a bottle of sauvignon blanc. The tastings are $15/person but waived when u buy $100 worth of wine. We bought two bottles and they were kind enough to waive one tasting. I want to join their wine club once im out of school. I enjoyed all their wines and the prices are reasonable. Will definitely come visit again. They make wine for food which i love. read more

What better way to follow up a lovely tasting at Truchard than to take Joann's suggestion and taste at Ceja Vineyards down the road. Ariel Ceja, son, General Manager, "Da Little Guy" and jack of all trades, welcomed us to a tasting of 6 or 7 delicious wines. Ariel told us about the history, philosophy and current business ventures of the Ceja family. He is proud of his family and the wines they produce, as he should be. All of Ceja's wines are made to the tastes of the family and meant to pair well with food. Their passion shines radiantly with every velvety sip. We particularly liked the Sav Blanc, Pinot and Cab Sav which we promptly received when we signed up for their wine club. We couldn't resist. Hopefully we can join the festivities next wine pick up, it sounds like they can throw quite the party. read more

This was our last stop on a bike tour on the second day (of three) in Napa. Fantastic. Atmosphere/setting: The winery is off the beaten path and away from the road with very beautiful vineyards. The bar/tasting indoor area is very small and intimate. There is also an outdoor area for tasting as well. Interestingly, there is a kitchen basically inside the tasting room area; as the mother is also a chef. Service: This was what set Ceja apart from the other vineyards we visited. It is truly a family operation. We were greeted by the son of the owner to begin with who told us the history of the winery and how his grandfather had started in Napa as a grape picker for seasonal work and eventually was given a scholarship to a nearby university. Next, we met the daughter of the owner who gave us our next tasting. Then, we met the owner herself for a short time. After that we were fortunate enough to meet the grandfather who had really started the winery. He was so sweet and nice and hugged and kissed us goodbye as well as sharing a drink with us. Not only was the service very friendly, but also knowledgeable about each wine and generous with the pours. Wines: Unique. These were not as dry and had a bit more fruit forward flavor. We ended up purchasing a bottle of the chardonnay which was very mild and not so overly Oaked like a lot of the chardonnay in Napa. Reasonable prices. We will definitely return to this winery if we come back to Napa Valley. read more

IT is true. This is the best vineyard in Napa. Or at least in my mind. The wine is DELICIOUS. Reasonably priced. It doesn't over-do the Tuscan kitchen theme that was in so many vineyards. Oh- and they have a compelling story and are really interesting/friendly people. Sadly, the vineyard itself was closed the day we arrived. Why? Because they are expanding! We arrived to a little chihuauha barking at us. Chihuauha is my spirit animal- so we enjoyed that. The owners greeted us and apologized repeatedly for being closed. They gave us coupons to the tasting room in downtown Napa and to their restaurant. We also found out that they were throwing a huge event that night and the wife was cooking a large portion of the food. This place just feels good. read more

This vineyard and winery is best accessed from I-80. To get there from 101 is quite a meandering trek. At the winery we participated in the daily tasting, on offer was a white blend, a chardonnay , a pinot noir and a Cabernet sauvignon. The wines were sampled as identified above and the quality improved as we moved down the line. Because the people I accompanied to the winery were VIP's we were given tastes of the Sauvignon Blanc which was not part of the daily tasting. This wine was by far the best of the bunch and one that I would seek out and purchase. It was crisp, clean, refreshing, and full of fruit dancing on the palette. I continue to believe that the California wines are very immature and lack body and the richness of other wines from Europe, Australia and South America. This is best evidenced by the less than stellar Pinot Noir which I would describe as run of the mill and a typical California red. But these are my prejudices and others completely enjoyed the hospitality shown by our hosts and their enthusiasm for their wines. This wine is made by good people who literally welcome you into their home to share their wines. It is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. I recommend it. read more

ORIGINAL REVIEW: ohmiGOD the cejas rock!!! i met the whole family yesterday for a job and not only were the totally cooperative and sweet, they cooked us lunch (homemade authentic mexican cuisine) and did free wine tastings with all of us. not only were they really cool and laid back, their property is someplace i'd like to set up camp and live and their wine is delicious. don't do mail-order unless you don't live anywhere near napa. a visit to their winery is totally worth the trip to pick up some wine. in fact, i'm pretty sure in some countries their winery would be considered equivalent to a destination resort and thus a visit would in of itself trump the wine purchasing affair. i'm definitely coming back here when i finish the bottles i took home yesterday. read more

We stopped by Ceja on our way up from Bouchaine, thinking that the name sounded vaguely familiar. I was pleasantly surprised at both how much fun I had and how good the wines were. The service here is really excellent, and it's a family run affair. The Merlot and the Dulce Beso wines were amazing -- I'm not really a drinker of red wines and I walked about with a bottle of Merlot, which is very uncharacteristic of me. My favorite part was the Bocce Ball courts in the back, where we played a couple competitive rounds. Ceja definitely gets my vote for being the funnest winery that I've been to. read more

My girlfriend and I dropped in during our leisurely stroll in Downtown Napa. The dude at the counter was really nice and hospitable. He answered all of our questions and we were able to try out more wines that were on the menu. All in all, a great place to start off your wine tasting, especially since this is right in Downtown Napa. Food Chains, the film, is where I was first introduced to Amelia Morán Ceja. What an amazing experience. Getting out of the car, walking to the tasting room, I felt like I was in Mexico with the dusty road and stone pavement leading to the front door. The weather was beautiful. People were sitting on the patio, listening to music, enjoying the ambiance (wine and beer, I'm sure). Then, to my surprise, Ariel is working the tasting room! To hear their family history and enthusiasm from an energetic young man was touching. Family value is what built this winery and will keep it going strong for years to come. Great pinots and wines located right in the heart of Northern California Pinot country... The movie Sideways tried to put Santa Ynez Valley on the map for pinots, but it took me many years and trials to realize the movie got it wrong. Carneros is where it's at, homies! Ceja is a beautiful property, wonderful family owned winery that can make any beginner or intricate wine palette at ease. I do drink a lot of wine and go to a lot of tastings, and still hate HATE the entire Napa snobbery. I don't quite remember who my pourer was or what he said, but he made me laugh so hard I almost peed in my pants. The entire experience was fun, light, and entertaining-- much like their wine. If you can catch Carneros on a Holiday weekend (meaning Holiday in Carneros or April in Carneros), DO IT! Ceja is part of that magical group of gorgeous wineries that is so pleasant to deal with, you won't want to leave! read more

There seems to be a lot of talk these days of how wineries can reach out to a new generation of wine drinkers. These wineries should look no further than Ceja to see how to get it right. Most importantly, our visit to the Ceja Vineyards was hosted by "the next generation" of Ceja's- Ariel Ceja, the founder's son. He was our age and spoke on our level. His knowledge of wine was mixed with his understanding of social media. He told us about their new social media site and their new online cooking show. In addition to their online efforts, they also reach out on a local level and host Friday night salsa dancing classes, or as our limo driver put it, "the ONLY night life in Napa." The facilities are as charming and welcoming as the Ceja family and even include a lovely bocce ball court. Oh and did I mention that all of their wines are spectacular? read more

In the tasting room, we met up with Dalia who is so nice and passionate about the family winery. Their Chardonnay is one of the best I ever had. Loved it! Absolutely loved it! I got to sample 3 of the best wines I have ever had! Seriously. Totally got me by surprise. The winery itself is very welcoming and you feel you are going over a friend's house for a very special party. Since I may have had the best tasting experience I've EVER had, I have to give them 5-stars. Just one minor thing I would like to see improved: signage. The winery was a little difficult to find and once on the land, we missed the tasting location. Which is actually hard to do in hindsight. Ceja is great place to visit in Napa! I had my first wine tasting ever here and it was lots of fun. It's very small compared to the other big guys in Napa but cozy and completely gorgeous. The tasting room was beautiful and the host was knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor that made the whole experience enjoyable. The history of Ceja doesn't go back too far, but is one of the most interesting. The wine was great and I was able to taste lots of flavors from the crop that was used to produce the wine. I love their white wines the best and their Vino de Casa is my favorite out of their reds. Very nice people who also let us have lunch outside in their garden where we also got to play a few rounds of bocce ball. read more

We called at about 9am on a Sunday and were able to get an appointment for noon. Javier met us, and gave us a brief tour of the estate and led us through our tasting ($15, waived with $100 purchase). During this time some people from a tour company came through and we were able to join them for Javier's presentation. We had a good time and learned a lot about the Ceja family (1st and 2nd generation Mexican immigrants) and the history of the brand. The tasting consisted of five wines: a pinot noir (apparently the most recommended at French Laundry), a cab sauvignon, a red blend (which was amazing), a rose, and another that escapes me. Now I'm no wine connoisseur , but I can say confidently that these were all very good. We ended up leaving with five bottles of the red blend. Javier provided us with a lot of recommendations for things to do in the area. Everything from beginning to end was awesome. The winery had a very private and intimate feel and that was reflected in our tasting with Javier. We hope to visit again someday and will continue to recommend this family-run business. read more

I loved hearing about how the vineyard came to be and how their different wines are created. Ariel (Da little guy) treated us as his peers, as he poured wine, joked, and informed us of the history of his families wineries as we sat on the patio. I had the pleasure of visiting Ceja Vineyards while spending the day in Carneros with a group of friends. We opted for a tasting at the bar, which was poured by Ariel. Ariel is an extremely intelligent young man, and is the son of the owners. He has great vision and spoke of his plans to make his mother the Latino Martha Stewart. He wants the Ceja brand to be globally recognized and respected, and loved. We enjoyed the wines, which are lower in alcohol content then others. I purchased 2 bottles of the Vino De Casa, consuming one with friends on the beautiful bocce court while picnicing with some sandwiches.
