While most work hard to provide quality food, there had to be a Subway version of this ever-popular diet at some point. Lachrymosely, loyal reader, this is that place. Celo's Schwarma Factory (or Mediterranean Bistro according to Face Book) takes the lines of least resistance to previously unforeseen heights. I ordered the Gyro Bowl and a Falafel Pita. Taking a seat, I was about to snap some pics of the interior but got distracted by my companion. My apologies. Our order was up, and I began the job upon returning to the table. First up on the Big Boy's distinguished palate was the Gyro Bowl. All bowls, like a sandwich, begin with the base. In this case, as in most, it was rice. This rice was so crunchy (my guess is it had been scraped off the sides and/or bottom of the steamer where it had been sitting for hours) that if I had any crowns on my teeth, they would have surely cracked. Seriously, I've had rocks that are more masticatable. The Gyro meat was extremely low-quality, and the veggies were uninspiring. Having more than one bite would have been cruel and unusual punishment to any patron, let alone one of Mediterranean decent such as myself; therefor I moved on to the Falafel Pita. This was average to the palate. The Pita was obviously not made on site, and I hazard guessing neither was the Falafel. There is nothing wrong with food service products if they are not bottom of the barrel and your execution is spot on. Whoever was behind the grill today was executing properly and this dish was the reason it was not a 1 star review. I have been waiting for this shawarma shop to open up for a while. When I heard they were going to make their debut in June I was excited. I make lamb shawarma at home on my own rotisserie as well as have enjoyed shawarma all over the world. I made my order and waited with my fountain drink. When my order was ready I opened the box and inside was a beef shawarma wrapped in foil, fries, and a small portion of salad. I'm not convinced that this beef was cooked on a rotisserie at all or prepared with the appropriate seasoning. It lacked the shawarma rotisserie beef taste, tenderness and was completely cold. More like sliced tough sirloin and veggies heavily soaked in their toum sauce wrapped in Pita. The fries were not fresh cut and lifeless, limp, and soggy. The salad which clearly was an after thought consisted of mostly of diced tomato and cucumber and lacked much flavor of any kind. The staff provide efficient service. I pre-ordered online and picked up on the drive home. We came here to get a carry out order about an hour before closing. We tried a few different plates. The spicy chicken shawarma was really good! Extremely good...even with the pickles! Dip it in the garlic sauce and it's just amazing!! We tried a gyro plate which was extremely salty and a non spicy chicken plate which was also good. We also order gyro fries but they forgot to put meat on it. By the time we got home, they were already closed. The fries were super cold. The rice was very dry and old. Could be because it was the end of the day. We also tried their desserts, one was with like a coconut cassava. It was way too dry for my liking. And the baklava was an Egyptian baklava. It was ok. So disappointed. My friend and I were eager to try this Mediterranean restaurant and the menu looked amazing. Unfortunately, the experience wasn't. There's a kiosk to order electronically but we chose to order at the counter. The young lady seemed rather put out but we ordered anyway. I was looking forward to a falafel pita after having many at Mallory Square during sunset in Key West. This one was overcooked and so so dry. Hardly any sauce. My fries were limp and barely cooked. My friend's Gyro platter was dry meat, overcooked rice and a decent hummus. This is definitely a "self serve " restaurant; you serve yourself your drinks and gather your own cutlery, yet when you pay you are asked for a tip. For what??? No one served us, except for practically throwing our meals on the table. Oh yes, you have to clear your table too. I now understand why we were the only diners. We ate here for dinner on Saturday. The food was amazing. I got chicken kabobs and my partner got spicy beef gyro. The gyro was relatively huge compared to what we normally get. Massive pita, stuffed with deliciousness. Mine was very good, hummus is ok but everything else was great. Also, baklava was tasty and 2x the size you normally get. This restaurant is amazing!!!!!! Me and my boyfriend have been looking to go to this restaurant for over a year now due to our busy schedule we haven't been able to have date nights. We finally went over one day when a new establishment open next door and we decided to take lunch out over here . The customer service was amazing. The two associates greeted us with smiles and patience as we read the menu. The menu is jampacked with lots of flavorful food and familiar items if you like Greek or Mediterranean cuisine! We now try to come here as often as we can . The hummus is so fresh tasting I don't even like hummus, but I get extra of it every time I come here . Love this family owned restaurant they have such flavorful food. Amazing quality Mediterranean & served on paper plates felt like a home feel. I had the lamb platter and it was so tender the humus is delicious, Greek salad we have ordered many times before this. Had some Egyptian baklava (not pictured) but went back in to order more to go. I frequent so many Middle Eastern restaurants in Tampa, in Miami, in Orlando, in New York City, & in Israel. So starting with the food, all I can say is that it was far from authentic, & parts of the food were far from being good. I see many glowing reviews on Yelp, so maybe today was a rough day there? I had the chicken Shawarma platter & falafel. The chicken shawarma was lacking any & every Middle Eastern spice that should be in it. Meanwhile the falafel were heavy pucks that had been over fried in old oil. My friend ordered the mezze platter. The reactions were similar. The hummus was poorly made. The baba ghanoush had no smoky flavor, & the tabouleh was unremarkable. When we went to pay, we got out our credit cards & were told they were going to add a 3 1/2% upcharge unless we used cash. They recently just opened up, but Iman took my husband's call and set us up for our crowd perfectly with shawarma meat, kebabs, a salad, taBouleh, also Spanokopita. It was so much food for the number of guests we had. Everyone loved the food! The meats were flavorful and delicious and the salads were fresh and crisp. Tzatziki and dressing was delicious.
