This place is as authentic as it gets!! After a lot of drinking Saturday and your looking for that hangover Menudo remedy Sunday morning.... this is the spot. They have some great Birria Quesadillas too!!! I would give 10 Stars if I could.

Dropped into La Rosa for the first time in a while. Not sure why we're hadn't been here in a while,…read morebut thought we would give them a try again. We were quickly seated and the service was friendly. We sat on the patio to enjoy the warm evening. Decor in multiple zones all seemed nice. We had a margarita received some nice thin and crispy chips with some fire roasted salsa while we reviewed the menu. We started with the kale and citrus salad which was amazing and abundant. We really liked the grapefruit! We followed that with the steak fajitas, which were also enjoyed, though at $49 for a serving for one we felt they were pretty overpriced. Overall not too bad, though I would say the pricing is pretty high for what you get, though the quality is good, the value probably not so much, but it it a great location, so there is likely some tourist tax built into the menu.

It hurts me to have to give this place a one star but they messed up really badly today. Let me…read morestart by saying that this is usually a four or 5 Star place in my opinion. The food is good. The restaurant is nice. Usually, the customer service is great. Today is Sonoma Pride, and I thought I might cut them some slack. We've eaten here the previous 2 Sonoma Prides, and it had become a favorite. Today, we're a table of two as usual. It was busy like usual so we expected a delay. We were seated immediately. We watched people go. We watched employees (including the greeter who seated us) watching us look around for service after sitting in the sun for 20 minutes. No chips. No water. No, "We'll be right with you." We watched them seat a party of 4 after waiting for about 30 minutes. We watched them greet that party of 4 and take their drink orders within 2 minutes of being seated right next to us. That was it. We calmly walked to the front to calmly speak to the greeter who seated us and even looked at us a couple of times while we were seated. We explained why we were leaving. She talked over us defensively with hands raised saying, "I'm not a server." I hope they can do better after this review because they just lost loyal customers. We ended up going to a small local Puerto Rican restaurant that was equally busy. I will rate them shortly as they are now the new favorite. Customer service is golden, La Rosa. Not worth compromising.

Also, their horchata was soooooo good. I almost made my hubs go back in to order another. Highly recommend and would come back if we were in the area.

When you're ready to pay, the portable payment terminal shows only the final total, without an itemized breakdown of the charges. If you pay by credit card, a 3% processing fee is added. I have no issue with the fee itself. My problem is that the sales tax is calculated on the total after the fee is added. The credit card fee should have nothing to do with the tax amount. Additionally, the suggested tip amounts are also calculated based on the total that includes both the sales tax and the credit card fee. Most customers expect tip percentages to be based on the pre-tax cost of the food and drinks. As a result, you end up giving a lot higher tip than you intended to. Because the payment screen does not show an itemized bill, it's very difficult to verify the charges or calculate a custom tip unless you remember the exact prices of everything you ordered. I hate when a restaurant's billing practice isn't transparent to customers.

The house speciality seems to be bowls - but they have tacos and burritos as well. Menu does not do a great job of describing what the bowls are like, but we decided to give those a shot. While we waited we enjoyed the salsa bar. They had a wide assortment of salsas and jalapeños, limes and other goodies. Salsas were fairly good. Bowl itself was like a burrito without a tortilla - just some crispy corn chip strips give it some flavor and texture. Cilantro rice and beans were tasty - but the carne asada was excellent! I like the addition of kernel corn for flavor and texture, although the "avocado" was a drizzle of green goo that wasn't exactly guacamole either. Overall not too bad, but not sure I would return here either.

The counter service was good. We had the street tacos and tried the el pastor, lengua, and birria. The el pastor was greasy, yet dry. The lengua and birria was some of the driest I've had in a long time. Given that the meats were uninteresting, the small sprinkling of onion and tired cilantro didn't save it. The only thing that made them edible were the sauces from the salsa bar. All of them quite good, so that's the silver lining. Oh yes, they serve the tacos with a small side of fried onions that were also very good. My search for Santa Rosa's best taco is still on.
