Decided to give this spot a try while we were in the area and looking for light Mexican food. Dining was dimly lit, but fairly clean. The house speciality seems to be bowls - but they have tacos and burritos as well. Menu does not do a great job of describing what the bowls are like, but we decided to give those a shot. While we waited we enjoyed the salsa bar. They had a wide assortment of salsas and jalapeños, limes and other goodies. Salsas were fairly good. Bowl itself was like a burrito without a tortilla - just some crispy corn chip strips give it some flavor and texture. Cilantro rice and beans were tasty - but the carne asada was excellent! I like the addition of kernel corn for flavor and texture, although the "avocado" was a drizzle of green goo that wasn't exactly guacamole either. Overall not too bad, but not sure I would return here either. read more

It's rare that I've been lead this far astray by 5-star reviews. I found the ambiance to be cafeteria like at best and surprisingly loud considering how small it is. The counter service was good. We had the street tacos and tried the el pastor, lengua, and birria. The el pastor was greasy, yet dry. The lengua and birria was some of the driest I've had in a long time. Given that the meats were uninteresting, the small sprinkling of onion and tired cilantro didn't save it. The only thing that made them edible were the sauces from the salsa bar. All of them quite good, so that's the silver lining. Oh yes, they serve the tacos with a small side of fried onions that were also very good. My search for Santa Rosa's best taco is still on. read more

Thankful to my son to turning me on to this spot- I was very impressed. We used to come to this location at lunch when it was Jalisco's and worked at Kaiser down the road. Very clean interior (with seating) as well as a covered patio for outdoor dining. My order was ready when I arrived and after the friendly staff member handed me my food, she also gave me a bag for chips & containers for salsa (complimentary). It's hard for me to resist a salsa bar and this one had much to offer. I brought home the avocado salsa. The two tacos I ordered were plentiful- I subbed out mine with avo instead of meat and my taco was full of avocado! The horchata was refreshing and delicious. I will return here for sure! I came here for lunch with my husband. They have their own parking lot, which is nice. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was good portions and my husband liked that the super steak burrito. I ordered the $10 value meal mini birria combo. It was delicious. I think I found my new favorite restaurant in Santa Rosa for Carne Asada burritos. What makes Tiahco carne asada special is that the steak and how it's prepared. Most other restaurants chop the steak up so tiny but I like seeing and biting into nice chucks of steak. I also had the lengua taco which was fantastic. I've been a regular at for Tlahco Mexican Grill months, usually getting their family pack every other week. The food is generally delicious... Unfortunately, last week I received the wrong meat in my order. I called to let them know, but couldn't easily return due to the distance and needing to pick up my kids from school. I was told someone would call me back to discuss this, but it's been two weeks and I haven't heard anything. I'm disappointed with the lack of follow-up. This terrific Mexican restaurant is ironically located across the street from Taco Bell. I burst out laughing. Yelpers, you know to go *here* to this family-run spot. I came in around brunch-time and the smaller dining room had 3 families, one table enjoying the all-you-can-eat buffet for $21.95. I ordered the breakfast burrito ($12.95) and asked to divide it in two. I'm glad I did because it was enormous: Densely packed with eggs, potatoes, refried beans, chorizo, cheese, entirely delicious. While I waited for my burrito they offered I get some housemade tortilla chips (kept toasty warm under a heat lamp) and avail myself of their impressive salsa bar. I tried a mild salsa blended with avocado (so tasty, went back for seconds) another, pico de gallo. The restaurant isn't fancy, just a homey spot kept spotlessly clean serving delicious, filling Mexican favorites from flautas to birria tacos. Truly delicious food and a good value. Tlahco's is my go to for huge portions and quick Mexican food cravings. Why buy from the unseasoned Americanized institutions *cough Chipotle cough Taco Bell* when you can support local and taste the difference? I usually get their burrito bowl, and you can choose TWO proteins. Their asada is good, but their birria is fire. They give hella huge portions and I always have enough for lunch for the next day. They have a self-serve chips bar, and a huge selections of salsas. I love their toasty salsa rojo, so good and the perfect amount of heat. Takeout is super fast, and you can always count on your order to be ready. They have tons of outdoor picnic table seating, dog and kid-friendly, as well as indoor seating. I've seen solo diners to families, and there's always someone dining in. I love that they have a huge grill set up during dinnertime, and I always see the friendliest guys grilling the meats. The four of us decided on Mexican food and yelp led us to this relatively new place right across the street from the Santa Rosa JC. You order at the counter and help yourself to drinks. They have pretty colored tortilla chips under a heat lamp and a salsa bar. The warm chips were delightful and fresh. We ordered: Carne asada bowl 2-item combo plate with chicken enchilada and chile relleno Super burrito with carnitas Super burrito with carne asada Our meals were delivered to our table. The first thing that came to mind after I took a couple bites of my super burrito was wow, these ingredients taste nice and fresh. Carnitas inside were tasty and perfectly seasoned. I requested black beans and no sour cream and they got it right. We all enjoyed our meals and we said we will definitely be back. The employee at the counter was helpful and sweet. It's a very casual atmosphere with tables inside and a few outside. During our time there, I was happy to see a steady flow of people coming in. We picked up burritos for dinner. I expected more based off the reviews but I was really let down by the lack of flavor. The cheese wasn't melted and it was all gathered in one spot of the burrito. The meat and rice was pretty flavorless. I was really underwhelmed by the food but impressed with the salsas. I drenched my burrito in it but even that couldn't save it. $2 for a tiny side of sour cream felt like a rip off. 2/10 for the salsa only. read more

The person who took my order was so sweet and kind. I ordered a super quesadilla from this location. Thirty-five years ago, this was my go-to lunch joint. I was attending Santa Rosa Junior College across the street, and this was the only authentic, non-gringofied Mexican food to be found in the area. It was originally a small shack called Jalisco's, but became so popular that the family that owned it built the current structure to replace the shack. It was a successful eatery for decades. I recently happened to be in Santa Rosa and noticed the change of name. I was hungry, so I popped in for a good meal and a bit of nostalgia. The meal was good, but nowhere near as good as it was under the previous owners. The ambiance was more modern and the service was friendly. But the once-four-dollar burritos were now eighteen bucks a pop and, while good, they were a far cry from their former greatness. All-in-all, the place was okay, but I would say that the old Jalisco's always felt like a Mexican abuela's family kitchen, whereas Tlahco feels like a next-generation business venture. But it sure-sh!t beats Taco Bell across the street. read more

Hector and his team gutted the old Jalisco's and made it their own. They have put a lot of money into cleaning the old place up. From floors, to tiled walls, to modern video signage, they went to great pains to set this restaurant aside from a basic taco shop. There is a clean, fresh feel to the place. He explained the color combo represent the colors of corn from that grows near Guadalajara. And that's the flavors - like you might find in the state of Jalisco. So not all is gone from the former restaurant here. We tried shrimp, asada, carnitas, al pastor, chicken and birria tacos. Some of the street taco style, some in a crunchy tortilla, some in the queso style. We intended to take photos of the tacos. But they were eaten before we could clean our fingers and snap a few shots. Simply delicious! Not all is perfect yet. I think on a busy day, the wait might be long due to an ordering protocol which needs some work. I'm sure they will figure it out. There is a chipotle-style toppings bar. The employees ask you what you want on your taco but, with only us in the store at the time, it was causing the staff and customers confusion. Easy to clean that up and I'm sure they will. But go here. These tacos are super tasty and the service is friendly and welcoming. Hector and his team have a winner here. They are going to have to hire some parking patrol soon to keep out the Ike's parking pirates. They will need some changes in ordering. But their food is tasty and the prices are right! Did not care for the marinade/seasoning on the rotisserie pork. Very Oriental I feel like they really missed the mark. Actually not a lot of flavors on the beans, rice, or veggies. Not very impressed, will try again and update. Try even some basic salt? Renovation looks great, I love the Freebirds style serving. Friendly staff. The place got a face lift for sure! really like what they have done. When I walked in there was a line (lunch time) however, the line moved quick! They had many options, from street tacos, Burritos, bowls... meat variety went from al pastor, chicken, carne asada, or veggie option.. oh wait for it... Birria! I will have to come back to try the birria meat another occasion but wad told a little too late it was an option. Tons of toppings, from rice, refried beans, veggies, corn, sourcream, pico de gallo, jalapeños, you name it they have it. I truly liked this location, due to the fact is right across the JC, plenty street parking and if your fortune enough, you'll have parking within the premises of Tlahco. I went sometime in the end of summer. I heard about this place on the radio and I thought it was another place near Safeway, but I was wrong. It's right across from the jc. Use to be another Mexican restaurant before in that location. I got a burrito bowl. Everything was season well and the portions were a good size. Price wasn't bad. Go to this place instead of chipotle. It's real Mexican food! Maybe one day I will go back if I'm craving it. read more

This is our new spot. I'm scared that if the secret gets out it might get busy resulting in longer wait times for my meal.... But I just HAVE to share. They deserve the business. The food here is consistently delicious, flavorful and most importantly, FRESH! We go once a week at a minimum, and we only eat out about once a week, LOL. This is the place that we know is going to be good without a doubt. Also, the prices are fantastic. I have yet to try the weekend buffet, but it is on my list as it looks and smells incredible. I ordered the Chili Verde Super Burrito. The service was prompt, I was offered a cup for salsa and a small tray for condiments (jalapeños, etc.) and I'm glad they were offered. While the burrito was sizable, had good texture and was moist, it lacked much in the way of flavor. The quantity of pork was also below average. Worst burrito I've had in Santa Rosa so far. This was my first time trying this place and I got a super burrito with asada. Every single bite I took of this burrito was either just beans or guacamole. It had the smallest little pieces of asada and a bunch of beans and guacamole. For 18$ and to only get small bits of actual meat was pretty upsetting. I've heard really good things about this places so I had high hopes. Don't know if the chef today was just being stingy or in bad mood but very bad burrito. read more
