I got a personal trainer. With two little ones, I decided it's time I get healthier. But, what do I know about fitness?! From day 1 - I was put at ease by Nick. He met with me, talked to me about my goals and discussed what sort of options were available to me. He never once made me feel like it was a hard sell - more, he was here to answer my questions and encourage me. Most importantly, he assured me that this wasn't going to be something that was going to drive me away. The team was going to work with me at my pace. I decided I'd go three mornings a week - totally crazy, right?! Now, I work with Vince three early mornings a week. Vince is awesome! He's fun to work with, super knowledgeable - always taking the time to explain things to me. And, most importantly, he's encouraging. I'm nowhere NEAR as advanced as some of the people I see, but Vince makes me feel like I have a place there. Just a few months ago, I would have NEVER thought you'd EVER find me in a gym. Now, I look forward to going!

He is the first person ii see when I feel unwell, even before my PCP. I highly recommend Dr Brett, as his fees are very reasonable, and his knowledge of medicine and nutrition is encyclopedic. If you have a health condition, you can't get a handle on, and your PCP is stuck or uninterested in helping (which has happened to me, unfortunately), I highly recommend Dr Brett. He is very helpful with weight loss, and his acupuncture sessions are relaxing . Also, his fees are also very reasonable. The office environment is clean and welcoming. I can't say enough good things about Dr.Brett!

Brett Csordis is the practitioner here and he really cares and wants to help you feel better. I was having a lot of pain on and off due to a varicose vein while waiting to get approved for surgery. Going in every week for a while got the pain under control and when I had a flare up one visit would nip it and get it back under control. You really feel the energy moving while the needles are in and I always felt better after a treatment. The office building is not inviting, behind Safeway and McDonald's, but inside Brett has made it a very relaxing and healing place.

Melanie's profile caught my eye on the website of Bakar fitness. I have always been on the petite side naturally and one of my goals was to be able to gain muscle and be strong. I never thought it was possible for me to be very strong being a 5'3 and naturally skinny person. Melanie definitely proved me wrong! My proudest moment was when I was able to deadlift 185lbs (I was myself 107lbs). While the number of pounds gained/lost definitely shows progress and reflects great milestones in one's personal health journey, training with Melanie has helped me look at health beyond numbers. Training with Melanie has had cascading positive effects in my life. I have become more disciplined when it comes to my health which in turn has improved my diet, reduced my anxiety, helped with my insomnia. Melanie is definitely unique in her approach. I have had several trainers where training means 1 hour of working out with them every week. Melanie is not your average trainer. She cares deeply about her clients and goes above and beyond for them. Outside of our 1 hour of training, to give an example of how Melanie came through as a coach for me - She gave me a nutritional program and kept me accountable. I broke my wrist from a bike ride; Mel helped me train my lower body in isolation for multiple months which helped me stay healthy physically and emotionally. I also had a shoulder surgery from a sports injury. I experienced a lot of atrophy and stiffness after the surgery. Melanie has supported me over the last 2 years to build back my strength and range of motion. I can do pull ups again! I have gained a lot of strength and muscle with her programs. Melanie is not a trainer that just cares about the number of pounds dropped/gained or to just get you high numbers for squats or deadlifts. She is very cognizant of injuries, she puts a lot of focus on conditioning and stretching and taking care of your body like it is a temple. She is extremely educated about anatomy. These qualities differentiates Melanie's programs from just another personal training experience. People often think having a personal trainer is not worth the money. Why pay someone when you can google exercises/programs. Having done my share of googling programs and investing in a personal trainer like Melanie, I can definitely say I am better off with Melanie. I look at health differently now and investing in having an expert like Melanie has definitely been the right choice and the returns have been more than worth it.

She is knowledgeable, non judgmental, kind and tailors the training for me! She always takes into account my aches , pains, post surgical condition, schedule, events, nutrition - you name it - Coach Melanie has always made adjustments that help me in my journey. I am so impressed by her! I met Coach Melanie at the UCSF Bakar Fitness Center when I barely exercised after a cervical spine surgery years ago. I was having back and nerve pain and I hadn't done a triathlon or run in eons, couldn't do a push-up and didn't exercise regularly. After working with Coach Melanie I strength train consistently ( super important for us all!), completed the sprint distance Honolulu triathlon, a couple of 10k's and few metric century rides and am on my way to more! My goal is to one day complete the iron- person distance tri and if anyone can help me get there it's Coach Melanie. We talk over nutrition I even meal prep now - not something I did before. I've had a few trainers over the years but Coach Melanie is the absolute best! I also really respect her values and am impressed by her own health, wellness and fitness journey. She's a fantastic person! Start training with Coach Melanie now to progress in your journey - no matter your level. You'll not regret it

I've been to a couple different Elements Massage (Lake Oswego, Tanasbourne) for MEDICAL MASSAGE,…read morewith focus on both legs and feet for lower peripheral neuropathy along with some lower back pain and muscle tension and cramping issues from a laminectomy at L3 as well. Out of every treatment option under the sun, massage therapy is the most useful. No drugs, PT or surgery even come close toward relief and recovery after over six years of dealing with my conditions. Sadly most insurance doesn't cover massage or has very limited visits per year so it gets expensive fast, even though my doctors would prescribe it perpetually for the medical benefits if I requested it. My latest visit at Tanasbourne in late April of 2024 was 90 minutes with Kat, she did a fantastic job, dug in deep with hard pressure as I prefer, light massage does nothing for severe neuropathy and preventing debilitating muscle cramping. Deep tissue is the way to go, on scale of 4-5 with 5 being hard pressure pain in a good way, she put in a solid 3-4. PROS: - Have always had great DEEP TISSUE massages every visit by a man or woman, therapists have been well qualified. - Every visit the massage therapist listened and focused on the areas requested (after years of severe neuropathy I know where to focus). - ALWAYS feel better after a deep, and sometimes painful massage, the kind where it hurts so good. - All professional, no feeling of being uncomfortable or pressured to tip. - Clean and modern facilities. - Mellow typical massage music. - Tables that raise and lower and are heated. - Can usually accommodate a quick same day schedule. - Most locations are easily accessible and disabled friendly. CONS: - No direct billing to insurance (some locations used to do this, but stopped), but can provide you with an invoice. - Does not provide a hot moist towel at end like many places do to wipe off any lingering lotion or oil, even though they have them and sometimes use them during your massage. Even less fancy places provide a dry towel. Nothing here, I guess you could use the massage table sheets. - Massage oil or lotion had a slight scent, nothing unpleasant or too strong, but noticeable. - Encourages tipping, even for medical massage (which shouldn't be required). ... While I don't mind tipping a little for Medical Massage, it is often deemed as necessary by medical professionals, just like Physical Therapy. Some massage therapist charge a higher rate for 'Medical Massage' and therefore make note that gratuity is not necessary as it's basically included in the rate. The benefits towards positive health with massage is far greater than the world, insurance or science might document, sort of like chiropractors, even though many insurance are starting to accept them now as legitimate practice. I mean, we don't tip chiropractors, PT, primary care doctors or surgeons?!? Some chiropractors have onsite massage, but my luck with finding a good deep tissue massage therapist through a chiropractor has yet to happen, probably because it's a lot of work and requires a lot of strength and stamina to dig in deep. Solution -- establishments need to pay their massage therapist a far better base rate, then tipping wouldn't be even be a question. My guess is that most chiropractors and massage studios don't pay their therapist a higher rate for 'Medical Massage' grade therapy, when they should ... The industry needs to change their mindset. SUMMARY: Elements seems to hire qualified massage therapists, no complaints there. Rates are on the higher side. Biggest downside is on the corporation as a whole being too lazy and cheap to bill insurance directly and not paying extra to their therapist for Medical Massage, and of course no towels for cleaning yourself up before exiting.
