Center Subaru is now Gengras Subaru. We have bought a Subaru here and it is where we bring our car for service. Today was just an oil change and tire rotation. I prefer to make an appointment ahead of time rather than using the quick lube drop in. Liza has been our go to service advisor for years. She is a true professional and a nice as can be! The walk around video that the technician send to my phone explaining the safety inspection is a very nice touch. Gengras added a car wash so it is nice to get a clean car back. The waiting room and show room were just redone and are nice and clean. Great dealership. We are looking forward to buying a new car next spring from them. read more

Can you imagine going for an oil change and they forget to put the oil cap back on after?? Careless mistake and it seemed as though they could care less. Based off of their mistake- Oil got everywhere in the front of my car/ on the engine and they still made me pay for it after. It's actually comical they offered a free oil change for the next time, I will never be coming back?? You let me drive away with my "car in perfect condition" the first time and actually made me breathe in burning oil fumes for a day. You've lost my trust and ruined my car the way it was! Who's to say this won't cause more issues down the line. Don't EVER go to this place, if they can't do a simple oil change I can't imagine what else they are messing up. I'll take my business to a farther Subaru. I wish I never went here, it would've saved me a week of annoyance. read more

Never take your car to Center Subaru in Torrington, CT!! Worst customer service experience of my life!! I am so disappointed. I brought a car here with an electrical/headlight issue in July. I was not given a proper diagnosis and was misled about issues with the car. After paying $1100 to fix the left headlight the lights stopped working shortly after. When the car was brought back to the dealership, they explained that there was another part of the car for the right side that was melted but they didn't deem it necessary to fix when the initial repair was made. I was never told of this and it is not mentioned on the initial repair report, (pictures to prove) therefore, I was never given the option to fix it. Upon returning the car, the right side would cost an additional 500$ to fix which I declined because the left side was still broken after 1100$. (12/21/20: today I got a call from Haddad Subaru dealer and they determined that I didn't need either of the parts Center Subaru told me I needed; The proper repair cost me 276$) When I got the car back the left side was STILL out and the right side, that they claimed was melted, was now working. After speaking with the manager he became very aggressive and refused to stand behind SUBARU OF AMERICA's warranty or rediagnose the problem. He was a complete bully over the phone and told me my car was junk. He said I was "lying" about the situation and asked "why should I do anything for you after leaving a bad review about us on google?" After contacting Subaru of America about the warranty they told me it must be removed by the installers. Since then, the manager refuses to work with me or honor Subarus warranty. Very unprofessional...6 months, 1100 dollars, and 2 trips later I got no headlights..What could have been an easy pass lost them 2 sales and the recommendations of my friends and family! Guess you see why we bought our 19 Impreza from haddads! Avoid these snakes at center Subaru and their mean manager Wayne at all costs! HADDAD Subaru in Pittsfield determined I didn't need either of the parts that Center Subaru recommended. They fixed the headlights on a moisture issue for 250$$ they told me there was bulbs missing from the car (can't prove it was center Subaru) but the lights were definitely there before my visits, I bought my car last Christmas... read more

They have won best Subaru dealership 4 years running. Huge service department, plenty of loaner cars. The online Internet pricing and discount along with the trade in price quote online made it a no haggle process. They price their certified cars at what other Subaru dealerships in the area price their non-certified pre owned cars. They throw in a 6 month 4000 mile dealership warranty on top of that. We got a very good trade in on our 2011 Subaru Outback. Our salesman, Mike Persechino was friendly, not pushy, and helpful. The paperwork signing ran into some technological glitches but with about ten million mouse clicks and lots of signing we got through it. Still shorter than some places I've been even with the difficulties :-) read more

The service department has went completely down hill. I brought my car for service one of them being a oil change when it was time I picked up the car and drive 600 miles and was low a qt of oil and my oil was black like it was never changed and because of this my check engine light came on I called them and they came to pick up my car and looked at it. Some smart ass called me telling if I want to fix my car which I told him yes three times, and every time he tried talking me out of it and telling me SOA is gonna ask for my ecu I told him I do not care I have no mods and nothing to hide he said kept arguing with me and finally I told him just leave my car alone I will be there to pick it up and go elsewhere. So I go to pick my car to bring it to a real Subaru dealership (colonial) where they will open the claim if neeeded and fix my vehicle. I wasn't going to write a review but on the receipt they gave me they said I refused the service meanwhile there shop Forman refused the work. And they said they will send info to soa. If you are looking for a different and positive car buying experience, keep looking. You cannot communicate with a salesperson via email even though they provide email addresses on their business cards. They never receive them and you get emails that make no sense. Again, because the emails are not sent by the sales person, they are sent by the back office who have never met you and don't read your emails. This is a very bad practice, bordering on unethical. Phone calls are also responded to inconsistently. Lastly, there is still the mysterious deal or no deal man behind the curtain sales manager shtick. Give me a break. From my observation, there are no female sales personnel either. This is a gap that should be addressed. The 2012 model car I bought had a badly repaired scratch that I found when I got it home. I won't even approach the dealership about repairing it correctly as I have feeling they will blow me off and I just don't feel like dealing with them anymore. This experience is why I buy from private parties when I can. Unfortunately, the model I was looking for was scarce. Good luck . Update Feb 2014: I am receiving Robo calls from the service dept after explicitly requesting not to. When I called to ask them to stop, the person that I talked to from service could not have been more annoyed by my request. Slimy business. read more

I'm actually a little surprised by all the negative reviews on here for Center Subaru because I've had a much better experience. I bought my Subaru Legacy from Center Subaru. Overall, the negotiating experience went well. My sales associate was not overly pushy (they were a little pushy, but hey, it's a car dealership!). After going back and forth for a relatively short period of time, we agreed to a price that, based on my research, was very fair. We also negotiated the trade in, which again, based on my research was very fair. I've been back a few times to service my car with Center Subaru and overall have had a good experience. The only reason I did not give them more stars is because recently, I started shopping for another new car. I went back to Center Subaru to test drive a different model. I told the sales person that I was just test driving a few cars that day and hadn't made up my mind. No joke, I received a follow up email or phone call everyday for the following month. Despite the fact that I told him I put my purchase on hold for the foreseeable future. Talk about annoying! It's because of this that I gave them three stars. read more

This place likes to say that the cut out all the haggling involved in buying a car by offering the best price up front and how honest they are, bla, bla, bla. All a load of crap. We worked with Jay, one of the sales guys. My husband and I did not do our homework so at the end of the day it is our fault, but we went in looking for a used car and told them we have a baby on the way so money is tight. They showed a car that we loved and told us that the asking price was 26,800. We got them to come down a bit and felt pretty good about the deal...until we got home a saw that they had been advertising that same car on their website for 22,000. To me that is fraud to advertise one price in print and give another in person. If you go here, do plenty of research beforehand because they will take advantage of you if they can. read more

We have bought 3 cars from this dealership since 2007. We still own all of them and never had any major problems. When buying a car, most dealerships will not let you go out for a test drive unless they come along - they will tell you where to go & how long. Center Subaru will let you take the car of your choosing out for however long you want. We went out for 2 test-drives with each car we bought. Salesmen are not extremely pushy as they are at other Subaru dealerships. We found them to have better prices and are willing to work out finances. I would definitely go back when we buy our next car. read more

I bought a new Subaru Crosstrek from Center Subaru in February 2015. In my past experiences buying any type of vehicle from anyone has always been a hassle with high pressure salesmen. So walking into Center Subaru in Torrington, CT I was expecting the same thing. What I quickly found out was this was the exact opposite from what I have experienced in the past. My salesman Frank Marchon was very polite, knowledgeable and professional. At no time did I feel pressured at all and the entire process of buying a new vehicle was quick and efficient. Everytime they told me to come pick up the car there was an issue and I left without the car. They gave me a rental but then told me to bring it back because someone wanted to test drive it. After three reasonably good experiences with Center Subaru I returned for a fourth purchase from them. This experience was entirely different and not in a good way. 1. I made the transaction as simple as I could by preparing what I expected for my trade and writing a check for the balance. They still listed the car as having a lien on it and I had to correct that with the insurance company. 2. The "new" car was delivered with sap discolorations and leaves under the hood. The windows were not clean and the fluids were not checked and topped off. There was a hole in the hood insulation liner that necessitated its replacement. When I complained about the condition of the car I was told that Center Subaru did not prep the car, it came from another dealer. No apology, no attempt to correct the situation unless I prodded the dealer to do so. The hood liner was replaced eventually by the dealer. 3. Returned for my first service in November. According to the printout the oil was changed, tires rotated and balanced, and a 27 point safety check was performed. I spoke with the manager of the service department after I got home and realized the brake and road dust on the tires, lug nuts, and valve stem caps was undisturbed and the tires certainly were not rotated or balanced. As far as the rest of the 27 point safety check I asked for the printout that was supposed to be attached to the service invoice and I was told that " if it was done" it would be mailed to me. After 2 weeks it has not arrived and I can only conclude it was not done. I have no way of knowing if the oil was changed or if the filter was simply wiped clean and left in place. 4. I have lost any confidence I had in this dealer. Their lack of concern for my issues ensures that I will go elsewhere for service and sales in the future. read more

Frank Marchion was professional and super easy to work with. He was patient with all my questions and very knowledgeable about all of the car's features. He was always quick to get back to me and made sure he was available for any of my concerns along the way. A+ Dealership. They went above and beyond to make sure my new used car was in excellent mechanical condition, all the features were in good working order, and they detailed the car to perfection for when I picked it up. Had a small issue with the sunroof and they ordered new parts and replaced it free of charge. They also provided me with a loaner while I waited for my car to be ready. BUYER BEWARE!! Had a friend put a deposit on a car, was told they would hold the car, a week later he provided them the remainder of the deposit they requested, no problems right? Yeah, not! The very next day after giving them the remainder of the deposit, he received a call from the salesman telling him there was a problem with the car, when he pressed for information he was told they sold the car. WHAT?? REALLY??? No courtesy call from the salesman to say 'hey, we need to finalize your paperwork or you might lose the car'. Nope! Nothing! I would never do business with this company. read more

I literally can not leave less than one star or I would. My friend recently brought his car into Center Subaru to see why his check engine light was on since he bought the car in May and shortly after he bought the car, the light has not gone off. When my friend picked up the car all of his settings on his head unit were changed and his speakers were borderline blown. My friend checked his mileage and noticed after a week of leaving his car with Center Subaru, he had an additional few hundred miles on his car. Ice on the cake, his side view mirror has scuffs which were not there before. When my friend called into Center Subaru they basically told him he is out of luck because he has no proof. I am surprised about all the negative reviews. I have purchased and serviced four Subaru's at the dealership. I was satisfied with each purchase. I have been pleased with each car purchased I have also been satisfied with the service department. Some things, like tires, I buy elsewhere because they are cheaper. Subaru's, if serviced properly, last for a long time and perform efficiently. I grew up in California, a car culture, and do have higher standards for dealerships. I do think the dealership needs to upgrade salesman knowledge and also better train the service department customer representatives on customer service. read more

I had an excellent experience today as a first time customer. I called last wk to set up an appt with Elie who was knowledgable, very friendly, and got us in right away. The price for the work was very fair and they combined the labor where they could. I had work done at another dealership where the integrity was poor and they didn't replace a part they billed me for. John Cersoli promptly called this other dealership to go to bat for us since it was in need of replacement, and the other dealership ended up reimbursing us. Thanks again guys! read more

I personally got a factory recall for my passenger airbag done by Center Subaru sometime last year; I brought it in midday and when I went to pick it up I was talking to a guy who walked me to my car. While walking he asked if we were looking a white impreza when my car is a tan forester, so I said no and that was the first time they realized they put the wrong part in my car (different airbags between models). They then had to keep it overnight and when I got it back the next day my dash board was completely messed up. The vents on my dash were not where they should have been and were practically falling into my dash board. All I got was a half ass apology and no one followed up after my appointment to see if I was satisfied with my service (Which I certainly was not). Not even a week before I brought my car in for the recall, I had called to take 3 prior vehicles off of the records because they were no longer owned by us. They never took them off and assumed they were working on the right car... Not sure how multiple reps and technicians overlooked the fact they were working on a COMPLETELY different car than what they had on the paper in front of them. I don't think they take a very good look at their reports because not one person noticed my car was not a white impreza, which I really do not understand how that could be so majorly overlooked. Over the weekend my friend bought a car from them and the salesman, Robert, she has been dealing with is beyond rude. He has yelled at her over the phone for something that was HIS and Subaru's mistake, not hers. She had a missed call from Subaru, called back and asked for Robert (assuming it was him who called because that is who she has been dealing with) and he rudely said it wasn't him who called and hung up on her. They don't leave voicemails telling you who and why they called, and then are extremely disrespectful when the customer is left to figure out who had called. Rude customer service and not efficient with their work or double checking what they are working on. Very, very dissatisfied with the service there. read more

Let me start with saying that I have read all the other reviews here and I completely disagree with everyone. I am not just saying this because I have had a great experience but so has everyone else I have recommended and/or people I have had discussions with about Center Subaru. I had decided to go to Center Subaru after years of bad service and terrible luck with cars. Best decision I ever made when it comes to having a car serviced or when buying a new one. I bought a 2009 Subaru Impreza from another dealership in Hartford CT and it was the worst experience; the car was a piece of junk with a bed engine. I brought it to Center Subaru and they fixed it and continued to service it without giving me the run around, charging me a fortune, or trying to add on services that were unnecessary. In 2011 a tree fell on that car totaling it. Without question I went to Center Subaru and met with Joe Kolosky (Best Salesman!). He got me right into a new 2012 Subaru Forester. It had everything I needed and wanted in a new car. It was a flawless transition and I absolutely loved that car. I know I keep repeating myself but again the service and sales dept were awesome and I really looked forward to going there and have my new car regularly serviced. Joe K would ALWAYS make a point to see me. He always remembered who I was and greeted me with a huge hug. It's the small details that count. As we all know, times are rough and I recently needed to trade in my favorite car for one that was less expensive. Again without question I called Joe K. No lie, the next day he got me into another Subaru. Now I am leasing a 2013 Subaru Impreza and my monthly payment is way less. Joe K worked really hard with his team to help get me the best price for my existing car and the best leasing price on a new car so I could stay within my new budget. Even when I had agreed to one monthly amount and I was ready to sign the paperwork Joe K surprised me with a new (much lower) figure. That man will work magic for you if you let him. The experience is what you make it and when you are greeted by a warm and friendly staff (every dept) you can't help but want to be a part of their family. DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM Center Subaru!!! Google "subaru oil consumption problems" - you have been warned! What is worse, Center Subaru does not stand behind a 12 year loyal customer to address this issue that should just be a pass through to Subaru of North America. The engine oil piston ring problem is a manufacturing defect that leaves us with an unreliable car that is only 3 years old with under 100K miles. We have done all the right things - regular oil changes, did an "oil consumption test" and the dealer will still not acknowledge any issue. Their response, "burning a quart of oil between oil changes is normal". Not sure what planet you were born on, that is not normal! My wife's 2015 Outback has the oil light coming on regularly after 1,200-1,500 miles right after an oil change. I don't have the time to worry about her standing on the side of I-84 pouring synthetic oil in this POS garbage boxer engine. So, not only does Center Subaru not take a stand for a loyal (2 cars now + 12 years of service revenue) customer, they are willing to put my family's safety at risk. I hope they go out of business. I am done with their B.S.!! Congrats, you just lost your next sale! Don't buy any Subaru vehicle, you have been warned. I am taking my wife over to Torrington Toyota (these guys are an A+ dealer w/ honest service department BTW) ASAP to have her pick out a car that is ultra reliable and keeps its value. I have driven Toyotas for the past 20+ years with no issues, never seen the oil light come on...ever! And this review is just the start, heading over to BBB next and may just start a local FB group or website to find other owners who would like to protest Center Subaru for getting similarly screwed. My wife and I had an excellent experience with Center Subaru. We bought a used car from them, a Hyundai, and got a killer deal on it because they mis-listed the mileage as too high. When the salesman realized the mistake he stuck to the advertised price, which made it quite a score. We worked with Majid, who was excellent and not condescending at all (which, since we're both women, is a big plus). We paid in full, so I did not deal with their financing department. The service there was quite good--we were attended to quickly, and everyone is super solicitous with all the water/coffee/tea offers. They do the back-and-forth to the manager thing, but plenty of dealerships play that game. They will also charge you for that VIN etching BS, and won't budge on it, but we were getting enough of a deal that I decided to let it go (also, most dealers in CT seem to pull that one). The day after I picked up the car I took it to my mechanic to have it inspected--I would highly recommend doing this, as then you can find problems while still within Center's 60-day warranty. My mechanic found a couple of small things and one big problem with the transmission. Center Subaru was great about scheduling me to have the issues fixed quickly, and gave me a loaner while they worked on the transmission problem. Ultimately, the transmission needed to be replaced, and they took it to Hyundai for me to have that done (car is still under Hyundai's warranty), which I deeply appreciate. Overall, I would highly recommend this dealership, as long as you're proactive about checking their used cars after you buy and do your research beforehand. They do seem to be a bit lacking in updating their web listings, or in listing the right features for their used stock, but the internet and carfax can solve those problems for you. read more

The only solution would be to refund what I paid to have damage caused by there negligence fixed.
