This is such a great spot if you decide you need to go somewhere last minute or you're not a great planner. We ordered the greek salad, chicken cheesesteak (comes with fries) and chicken tacos. WOW! I live locally and love coming here for a quick bite for lunch/dinner whenever I wanna stretch my legs without taking a hike or to just get some work done out of the house without much disturbance. Nice local spot. Nothing fancy. Very friendly staff. We had a large party os 8 and everything was cooked fresh. I had Pasta Carbonara..really large portion adequately prepared. One friend had French Dip sandwich which had brown gravy instead of a jus. Fish tacos were good. The seadfood stew as good, but the large clams were deemed chewy by both people who ordered them. I especially enjoyed the special artichoke appetizer, lightly breaded and fried with a light lemony sauce, Calamari was good and the desserts, especially creme brulee were large and tasty. Central bistro in Jersey City is dope! The food is fresh and delicious. My family and I have enjoyed breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well. The place is small, but the servers are really nice, professional, and provide great customer service. Their crêpes are to die for. Their sandwiches are excellent. And their dinner menu is really good. The chicken Parmigiana, their ribeye, mashed potatoes, lasagna, everything delicious. And their portions are no joke. It is a must try! The restaurant choices in the Heights have blowing up over the last year. Many new places haven't lasted for various reasons. I dearly hope Central Bistro is one that last the test of time. This was a good find! I stopped here for my birthday last night and had an amazing experience from the time we walked in the door. Linda was our hostess, and she was great! The restaurant is warm and inviting. The food was really really good, I had the Bistron Burger, which comes with fries. My fiance had the cheesesteak, which comes with a salad, and he said it was really good as well. It's near by where we live so we will definitely be back. I've been passing by this place and wanting to try it for a whiiiiile. I finally came here for a solo lunch date yesterday, a Tuesday at 3pm. There was one table of guests there when I arrived and empty for the rest of my meal. Honestly, it was exactly what I wanted. Some place cute, cozy, and quiet. I was warmly greeted upon arrival and that honestly set the tone for the rest of my experience. Kio, I believe was her name was my server. After I'd shared that it was my 1st time there she gave me a swift run down on what's what. Lovely! This place is also BYOB with a liquor store right across the street! I ordered the lamb burger with tzatziki sauce and fries! OMG! Delicious. My drink never had the chance to be empty. She was very attentive and sweet. We've been here three times so far and every time has been enjoyable! First time I had the Filet Eggs Benedict, so delicious! The food tasted just as beautiful as it looked! That Horseradish Hollandaise goes so well with the dish. I could eat it everyday. My Boyfriend had the Chicken Cheesesteak. YUMMY. I appreciate that their fries and home fries are crispy, as they should be. On our second trip I had the Fish Tacos. I wasn't crazy about the sour cream, etc on the tacos - but once I scraped that stuff off the fish itself was divine, fried to perfection. I do wish they used corn tortillas rather than the flour tortillas - but overall since the fish part was so enjoyable, I didn't mind. It did make me wish they had fish and chips on the menu, I have a feeling that would be amazing made by them! My boyfriend had the Oaxaca Torta, HOLY MOLY - all the layers piled on the sandwich were well thought out, they really know what they're doing in terms of flavor. On our third trip, for dinner - we brought my boyfriends parents, everyone was beyond happy. I had the Fresh Gnocchi in Veal Bolognese, my boyfriend kept stealing bites - it was SO GOOD! I need to go back and get more! Everyone else had a pasta, I was too focused on my dish to pay attention to theirs. We also had a Classic Cesar. The Chef made his rounds, he asked how we were enjoying it - afterwards he brought out fresh shucked oysters! I love this place, I do most of my cooking at home these days because of an auto immune disease but when I do want to cheat, this place does not disappoint! read more

Went here last night with two friends. Pretty cozy interior--doesn't try too hard like Corto and Fox and Crow to do that overwrought Instagram/millennial chic look. (You know what I'm talking about.) The menu is simple, legible, and unpretentious. Their chef has worked in Italian restaurants for ~15 years, but is of Latino descent (I presume, given that I asked the waiter and could tell from the menu offerings), so my recommendation is to go for one of those menu options. I had the Oaxaca Torta--phenomenal sandwich. Perfectly fried chicken, good bread, well-seasoned fries. Friends had penna a la vodka with chicken--said was good--and the veggie burger, which looked a bit dry. My friend said he didn't love it, but the salad it came with was nice. Will definitely be back! Hopefully more people will be in there. Granted, it was 8:45 on a Wednesday. Hope they stick around. read more

Delicious food and great outdoor seating. the perogies with goat cheese and caramelized onions are a must try. I had a the steak tacos which were very filling. My boyfriend had the sweet potato salad which was very tasty. Very nice spot, we loved it and plan to return to try their brunch. My husband and I stopped into this new restaurant on Central Ave. in the Heights last night after reading some mixed reviews. We were so pleasantly surprised! The service was excellent. The décor is simple but pleasing. It's BYOB so we were able to enjoy our favorite wine. We had a wonderful, casual dinner for a very affordable price. I had the Buffalo Chicken wrap and it was delicious. It was served with crispy, well seasoned fries. We will definitely be back and urge our neighbors to patronize this new restaurant as it is a much needed addition to Central Ave. Note to the owner: Your cash tip only policy seems unfair to your excellent waitstaff. We barely had enough cash for a reasonable tip. Most people carry very little cash these days. read more

I recently tried this new restaurant. I had ordered a grain salad. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it was terrible. If you are going to charge $12 for a salad, it should be fantastic. There was no flavor in the dressing, and the ingredients did not even go well together or taste fresh. It was completely bland. I would recommend you take a walk down to 'The Cliffs' on Congress Street and taste their salads, so you know what you are up against. I hope that you can improve your food quality, and I would be more than happy to change my rating from 1 star to 5. read more

And that after being able to take only a few bites of what they are calling perogies that are so over fried they could be used as hockey pucks. I'm kinda glad I didn't order the baked clams. Came here for brunch one day and tried the filet mignon Benedict and the avocado toast. Both were EXCELLENT! The filet is grass fed (two thumbs up) and very flavorful. Came here for lunch/brunch on a Sunday. Wife had the Caesar with steak and I had the chipotle chicken, everything was on point. Might be the best grilled chicken sandwich I've ever had. Must mention the super friendly service we received from Mauricio (fairly certain about the name.) He's there on Sundays and either Wednesdays or Thursdays, I'm not sure. I heard many good things about this place and finally decided to try it. The bistro is very cozy and it has a rustic kind of feel to it. We were immediately seated and the waitress graciously introduced herself as Kelly and proceeded to tell us the special and also made some very useful recommendations. We brought our own bottle of wine and she quickly provides us with a pair of wine glasses. I ordered the baby churrasco, by the way it was amazing, my partner ordered the penne vodka and it was also outstanding. Have been meaning to try this place forever and finally got a chance to order take-out on a Friday night. The menu was diverse and we ordered the nachos, the Oaxaca Torta (loved!) and the carbonera. Everything was very tasty and reasonably priced. The portions were quite large and easily worth what we paid. While it was only a pick up, the staff was prompt and courteous upon arrival. I would like to visit here once restaurants are allowed to open again, and since it is BYOB the cost of the meal stays relatively inexpensive. Love this place. I'm a vegetarian and my husband is a carnivore. They have a varied menu which satisfied us both. We had mussels, calamari, veggie burger and hamburger. Delicious and great service!! Have eaten here again a few times since the above review. We've had the chicken francais, grain bowl with shrimp and most recently for Valentines Day enjoying the best tuna tartar I've ever had, no filler, small chunks marinated with a bit of heat served in some type of homemade thin flatbread. my husband had the grandma's pasta which was rigatoni served with a short rib, sausage and nice sized meatball, again no filler.
