Terrible work quality and customer service. My pants were burned and they don't admit the problem. Never use this place again.

I called about having a window bench cushion cover dry cleaned - rather dirty after our pandemic puppy (85 pounds...) has sat on it daily for four years.... The owner said this was possible and would be approximately $40. I dropped it off. He called me a few days later and said that the cover was fairly damaged (by our dog) and despite running it twice through the cleaning process, it was still dirty. He charged us $20. When I picked it up, it was much cleaner than when I dropped it off - and he was right about the dog. I appreciate him reaching out and letting us know how the process was going. Terrible service and attitude from the people they work there and the owner you ask for estimate on alterations they said later on and when you go back and you found out they over charged you without any explanation and not giving you a quote before they completed the job. Owner called my 82 year old mother liar and didn't even bother to ask his people what really happened. He is very rude and not professional at all. Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten. I'd be going to central cleaners for 20 years and they consistently have done a great job. Mr. G who is the on-site Taylor is a fantastic craftsman. He has done some very difficult work over the years and still has a passion for what he does and quite a twinkle in his eye. Well, if I try to sugar coat things, then maybe I can give this place one star. I gave them two chances. As they say, the first mistake is their fault, the second - your own (or something like that :) They are all nice and smiley, but they don't know how to dry clean. How would you like to be overcharged for a shirt they actually PUT stains on and a skirt that was ironed in the way that you can't even put it on without laughing at yourself. Well, if you don't want that kind of entertainment, don't go there. I brought them $90 worth of dry cleaning and at least half of it was seriously screwed up. read more

Owner is a heartless jacka** and I feel badly for his relatively pleasant employees. They RUINED my grandmother's favorite scarf that she was to be buried in. I dropped off three clothing items to be dry cleaned for my grandma's burial - precious, favorite items of hers that she would be buried in a few days later. One of these items was a white scarf that my grandma loved so much. When I dropped it off, I told them to be very careful with it because the scarf was over 60 years old and for my grandma's funeral. I came to pick up the items and checked them over just in case to make sure that everything was clean and perfect. The other two items were fine (just fine, not exceptionally cleaned), but OH MY GOD the beautiful scarf was RUINED!!! One of the sides was completely frayed and and coming apart. I started crying right then and there. The scarf has been hand washed as well as dry cleaned in the past so I couldn't believe that this happened this time around. I asked for a full refund because this is COMPLETELY unacceptable. The employee seemed understanding and he went to call the owner and check in with him. After speaking with the owner and even telling him that the items were for a funeral, the owner would only allow the employee to refund the amount of the scarf. I was in complete shock. I thought that after completely ruining one of the items that they could at least offer me a full refund especially considering the circumstances. They still were only able to refund the amount of the scarf. I left very upset and devastated. I would NEVER RECOMMEND this place to anyone. Look elsewhere for a more understanding business that doesn't ruin your clothing and does a better job cleaning them, too. The only thing is that the items were ready on time. read more

When you bring a coat into the drycleaners and there are gloves in the pocket, you would think that they would be cleaned as well? Or at least you will be called and asked if you meant to leave them in there and would you like them cleaned? The last time I got the coat cleaned a couple of years ago and left the gloves in there (different drycleaner) the leather gloves were cleaned and returned to me. Well, I guess Central Cleaners forgot about customer service because there was a "you forgot these" bag with my DIRTY gloves in it. Ew gross! Time to find a different dry cleaner. read more

The good and what counts: They're nice and they do a really REALLY good job on the cleaning. I brought in a wine and grease drenched dress and they actually cleaned it (to my surprise). The bad: if you're a cheapo like me, they're expensive, even more so than dependable. It's not just the cleaning that's expensive, the "alterations" are too. One time they charged me $10 to sew on one bead - yes, it really was one bead in a very simple way that even I could do (next time I won't be so lazy...) The weird: the paper bodice they put gowns on; they're like fake boobs... it's really strange and takes up way too much room in my closet though it does a great job of keeping the dress in shape and wrinkle free. The verdict: Will be back... but probably not regularly read more

They just updated there computer systems which makes everything run better. The marvels of modern technology even can help the archaic profession of dry cleaning. Anywho, I think Central is on top of their game. I went in on Monday and asked for next Monday pick up, and the gal at the counter, Jenn surprised me by not only saying that's fine but also suggested to put the order in for Wednesday pick up to ensure it would be ready for early AM if I decided to come in on my way to work. Everything is done orderly and efficiently, some might say a little pricey but I'd settle on paying more for best service. Awesome. Also, the little Italian tailor does a great job on alterations. My husband and I have been using Central Cleaners for atleast the last 7-8 years. The owner Bob is a pleasure to deal with and goes out of his way to accomodate you. There have been afew times when we needed something cleaned or pressed in a pinch, and it's never been a problem. Super sketchy. If I could give zero stars, I would. I should have listened to all of the bad reviews, but I was feeling lazy and didn't believe it could possibly be that bad. Turns out that it is. I brought in a dress to be hemmed, and when I asked for a price up front and they refused to give me one. They said the tailor "wasn't sure" how much it would cost, even though he had already measured and pinned out the dress. Instead of listening to my instincts and going somewhere else, I left the dress with them anyway, and when I picked it up, they charged me $95. That's right, $95 to simply cut a little fabric off the bottom of a dress. When I expressed shock and disappointment that I wasn't told how expensive this would be, the rude woman at the desk was neither concerned nor surprised. I also told her I live in the neighborhood but wouldn't be back, and she didn't seem to care about that either. This place is obviously used to scamming unsuspecting customers. I've taken even a vintage Hermes scarf there ..with tea and wine stains that had been there for many many years and voila! ..gone! This is a not a chain..it's very personalized. Bob - you are a nice person...but you need to make some serious changes!!! Your prices are very high - your manager is drinking on the job (he stinks so so so bad when I come in and can be found at the liquor store about 20 minutes after you pull out of the driveway at night) - your high turn-over is FRUSTRATING - and you should really stop scratching yourself while in the front area. I say this to encourage you to make these changes. I have found a different cleaners to use, and am equally impressed with the work being done to my clothes (for half the price I might add). The things I mentioned are serious and need addressing because you will continue to loose business this way (as stated i think you're a nice person). I got so sick of Gavin smelling like he just took a sip of his whiskey and and being ripped off with your prices....the high turn over was the icing on the cake. I have been using their in home delivery service for the past 9 months, have no choice but to switched to another drycleaners. Very unreliable. I typically called early in the morning (7:30am) for pick up that days. Quite often, the driver failed to show up, without any valid explanation. Last week when I ask about the inconsistency, the owner explans I live quite far away from their store, so they miss my pickup from time to time. If driving a couple miles is so hard, then maybe they should not have delivery service in the first place? Throughout my experience, I have the distinct feeling that they simply do not care about their customer experience, nor do they do or say or ask anything to make sure they serve the customer's need. They are extremely expensive and not transparent about their pricing. $9-$10 for a women's blouse. $18 for a dress. One of the items I dropped off was a very simple cotton, machine washable dress. I told them it was simple cotton and machine washable and asked if I should have them do it or I just do it and he said "we'll do it for you." He didn't say "we'll essentially be charging you $18 to dry clean this t-shirt, maybe you'd rather throw it in with your next load?" That would have been the appropriate information to provide. When I picked up and questioned about the high prices, and asked for a discount on the dress in particular and overall for the lack of transparency on pricing, they were very rude - especially the owner who happened to be there. The owner even said that they are the only dry cleaner in the area so they charge whatever they want and I don't have to come if I don't want to. He essentially admitted to taking advantage of customers. And even after I paid, when I was arguing with him he grabbed all of my clothes as if to take them back - that starts to feel like extortion. I certainly will never come back. The dry cleaner next to my office in back bay does great work and charges ~40% less and even drops off and picks up in my office. Why would I ever come here again? As a separate note, when I dropped off my clothes, there was a distraught girl in front of me. Turns out they had lost an article of clothing for her. And they weren't even sympathetic and didn't indicate they would do anything other than look for it again. Really? If you lose my clothing, you better be prepared to pay replacement value. read more

If I could give this a zero rating I would. I took a cotton button down in to be laundered for $3 and change. When I picked it up I was charged $10.45 because they decided after the fact that the material needed to be "hand ironed". I had an extensive discussion with the person at the counter when I dropped the shirt off. She agreed that for $3 I should pay for ironing. It was never suggested that this shirt didn't qualify for $3 treatment. When I pointed this out to the tone-deaf guy he simply shrugged and suggested I insert my credit card for payment. How is it ok that you are told a price and then they increase it three-fold without asking first? Boycott this rip-off place!! read more

Took my nice linen shirt and pants here to get dry cleaned and they came back with holes in them! The owner told me that moths are responsible for the holes but I don't have moths in my apartment and they are always wrapped in plastic! The holes showed up right after I received the clothing back from the dry cleaners. So I asked them for a refund and they said they'd look into it. But I got a fairly rude call back from the store manager who told me that they cannot refund me. I don't want to take my clothing to a store with a moth infestation! I have been using Central for the past 2 years and have only great things to say about them. They have done a superior job in cleaning all my clothes, from casual to designer. They are very courteous and in fact know me without my having to give name or phone number (which is their identifier in their updated computer system.) I brought in a cushion cover with a stain in to be cleaned. When I picked it up the stain had bled. They told me that they could probably fix it and so I let them keep it. When I went back to pick it up, there was a hole in the cover! I left it there to speak to the owner but then they lost it! I have been back at least 8 times. The owner is never there but apparently he is the only one who can help me. I have left my name and phone number and no one has called me back - ever! This is my first review. I felt that I needed to let everyone know just how great the experience was that I had at Central Cleaners. I went there with little hope. I had been given a beautiful wedding dress from a good friend of mine but there were 4 year old red wine stains down the front. heart breaking! I took it there expecting them to say they couldn't do anything or if they could that it would cost me all the arms and legs I have! However, instead of trying to take me to the cleaners so to speak, they only charged me $50 for the cleaning and when I got the dress back it sparkled, and I could have swore that it was another dress. I appreciated their business so much that not long after I also brought my flower girl's grass stained dress there too. We both looked beautiful on my big day. Coat goes missing and no accountabily taken My family has been customers for a couple years with dry cleaning/coat storage and even alterations however we will NEVER be returning after our recent issue. Last Christmas I received a new North Face winter coat and when the winter months were over I brought in two coats (the new one and my daughters North Face) to be dry cleaned and stored for the upcoming warm season. I went in to pick up the coats once it started to get cold again and to my surprise the employee only brought one coat (of course the older North Face that belonged to my daughter) The employee was no help and the owner, Bob overheard what was going on and stepped in. He took a look at my receipts and stated that we only had stored and cleaned one coat because 2 pieces in their world actually means coat and hood. However my receipt clearly states "2 Coat Storage" and "2 pieces". We went back and fourth for awhile and after throughly examining my receipt I quickly realized they had my entire order under someone else's name but same last name. Bob had no explanation for this mess up and now I was convinced that my missing coat had been given to someone else. He said he would look into it further and get back to me and also asked me to take a double look in my house and make sure it wasn't there, which isn't hard to do considering my lack of closet space. After waiting over a week I called to check in and see the status and there was still no answer from Bob. Today I gave one last phone call, three weeks after my check in with Bob to see if he had in fact contacted the customer that was on my receipt or look through the storage facility. After speaking with him I have come to the realization that I will never get my brand new $300 coat back. Bob's response to not calling me back was "I was waiting to hear from you" and "No I haven't called the customer" so what has he done for me? Absolutely nothing. He has not once apologized to me or made any effort to further investigate the situation. All Bob has done is blow me off, tell me to look around my house and continue to say he'll get back to me. The lack of accountability is astonishing. As a business owner he should be helping make sure his customers are happy and satisfied when they walk out the door and I am neither. To the person wearing my missing coat I hope you're happy and warm unlike I am. And to existing customers and future customers do not trust this dry cleaners. read more

July 6, 2015 This place is fantastic. I brought in a silk shirt with tea stains all over one side. They worried that the stain would not come out. My family has been going to Central Cleaners for more than 20 years. In the past all worked well. Since the new owner took over the cleaning has gone downhill and the attitude has changed drastically. About 15 years ago some damage happened to a blouse that Central cleaned for me. The owner took responsibility and gave me the replacement value. Last summer Central cleaned two of my sweaters. One came back with a big stain on it and the other was discolored. The new owner refused to even discuss the one that was discolored and the one with the new big stain he questioned his responsibility. He then tried to clean it again three times (lucky the sweater was not in shreds by the 4th cleaning.) He continued to argue with me but finally said he would not pay for replacement but would pay something. He asked that I bring in a receipt to show the cost of the sweater which I did. This was a beautiful and expensive sweater that I loved. When I presented the receipt to the owner he did not remember he had asked for a receipt and refused to pay for a replacement and then informed me that all he would be wiling to pay was 10 times the price of cleaning which is stated in the fine print on the back of the receipt. The owner was rude, unprofessional and embarrassing. He has lost my business and will continue to lose business. I advise anyone and everyone to use another cleaner, someone who respects his clients and has the best cleaning possible as his primary goal. read more
