Finding this place was a strange combination of smelling roasting coffee and seeing the word "ROASTERS" as we zipped by a couple years ago. We were in disbelief at first, but decided to turn around and take a chance. Who would have thought you'd find such a gem by accident? CC is the closest I'll get to the roaster living in northern Virginia. Their varieties are great, environmentally friendly and competitive in price to the premium brands you'll find in stores. The staff are very friendly and you can tell they're true coffee (and nature) lovers. We usually find a reason to be in the area once or twice a year. Note they do not sell coffee beverages like most people would think, as they're a roaster. They do have small cups available for a $1 donation (to the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, I think) and they do have tiny sample cups to try the different beans, but that's about it. read more

I have been going to Rappahannock County a lot lately either for hiking or wine tastings. Coming down from the Skyline, we were needing coffee at the time and was gonna speed up to look for a convenient store in Front Royal. As we drove by Sperryville, we almost passed this place and had to make a u- turn because we caught a glimpse of the word"Coffee" from outside. Our extra effort to make a u-turn did not disappoint! So since it's a coffee roaster, technically it's not a coffee shop. They don't have latte etc. But, they offer selections of dark coffee (Panama, Ethiopia, PNG) and provided milk, sugar, and creamer. The coffee is fresh as the beans are roasted right behind the counter!!! I tried Panama and it was really earthy. My boyfriend had Ethiopia and it was super strong and acidic. By the way, a cup of coffee is ONLY $1 and you're contributing to a fair coffee trade. They also use a fettuccine pasta stick as a stirring stick, which is super environmentally friendly. The staff who works there is also very friendly and told us the greatest overlook at Shenandoah NPS. He even recommended us to go to surrounding coffee shops nearby if we are looking for cappuccino or latte. Why do that? This coffee coffee roaster is amazing!! This roaster needs to have its name on the map as one of the best coffee "shops" in Sperryville! Worth the stop :) read more

We realize that we can order their coffee from them online but we make it a point to stop in whenever we're passing through Rappahannock County! The staff members are warm and friendly. Very knowledgeable of their products, they will take the time to help you figure out what coffee will suit your tastes - if you have any questions, let them know! They'll discuss roasting methods, flavor profiles, acidity levels, and many other topics. Like your coffee on the lighter side? I'd suggest the Kitchen Sink Blend (their signature blend, probably light-to-medium overall), or the Brasil (a flavorful medium roast). Dig the dark? Sumatran all the way! No matter what you're getting, make sure to check out the artwork on the front of every bag! The staff also seems to keep music from local artists at hand. Gotta love local support! I want to say that they're only open on the weekends, so make sure to confirm hours before driving out. If you get a chance, make sure to give them a visit! We don't live anywhere near Central Coffee Roasters (it's a shame!) but we always look forward to stopping in as part of our visits home. read more

Great little place in Sperryville VA, don't let the outside fool you. Inside is all the imported coffee flavors you need. It smells like coffee heaven when you walk in! The flavored coffee, the latte, even the machiatto have become distant memories since visiting this place. So many to choose from--Panama, Teaberry, Sumatra are among my favorites. Coffee fresh from the ROASTER-mmmmmmm. I no longer need sugar or cream, it hides the full flavor of these beans. It is an hour drive for me but sooooo worth it. The owner is very personable and informative, the shop is clean and rustic with only a few well placed pieces of art and shelves with coffee. In the back, all that can be seen are barrels and barrels of beans. The beans are so fresh they still have an oily coat. You can try most flavors for only $1 a cup! Wife and I finally stopped in to sample the coffee here after driving by about a zillion times. What were we thinking?! Why didnt we stop before this?? First, its a buck for a good sized cup of coffee. There are several to choose from and sample before you decide. This coffee is fantastic. Wonderful flavor. Second, the kind lady (the wife aside of the owners) helping us was terrific. Very nice, very chatty and just helped make this a most pleasant visit. One bag of 12oz coffee cost us, I think 10.99. About grocery store prices for "gourmet" coffee. Except this stuff really is. On your way to or from Sperryville, do stop in and grab a bag of coffee. I've been getting my coffee by mail from a roaster in PA. Always had good luck there but now that I found this hidden gem of a place I guess I'll have adjust to the change. I found Central Coffee one day after missing a turn while out on the motorcycle. Fate. I stopped in, had a great cup, and picked up three bags of freshly roasted beans. The next week or so I was constantly looking forward to that next cup. I'm fortunate to WFH. I haven't settled on a favorite yet. So far I would look forward to any one of the roasts I bought home. I'll keep trying their different varieties but I'll probably never settle on a particular favorite. While you are there, check out the beautiful art on the wall. Jeez, I've been going through Sperryville since the 1960s, before there was a Rt. 211 bypass around Washington, VA. More recently, I used to drive past Central CRs thinking it was perhaps a wholesaler doing roasting for the Little Inn and local B&Bs. Then, one day after leading trail crew for PATC, I decided to investigate. The building looks like a "double-wide" situated next to the Thornton River, but once you step inside, you are enveloped by the smell of fresh roasted coffee. Turn right and you'll walk into the retail area with fresh-roasted varieties stacked on the back wall. To your left on the counter are thermal coffee dispensers where you can get a nice, fresh cup of hot coffee. I've never found the parking to be a challenge. There's plenty of space on both sides of the building. Just don't drive too fast, or you'll be past CCR in a flash (but there are plenty of places to turn around....) The coffee is fresh, prices are reasonable, and Maggie and the staff are chatty and sociable. You will LIKE the coffee, and there is an ever-changing variety being roasted and offered up for sale. If you're in the area or headed to Shenandoah National Park via the Thornton River entrance, by all means stop in. You will not be disappointed. If you love coffee, it's a mandatory stop. I roast my own small-batch coffee, but still stop in to get a bag or two when I'm in the area. Highly recommended. read more

Have been wanting to stop by Central Coffee for several years. It's on the way to SNP and makes an excellent stop. When we went this weekend, they had about six brews available for tasting, and one could optionally purchase a large cup for $1 (yes, $1). Also, a number of beans one could purchase, as well as some interesting art. The folks working the counter were super easy going and friendly, without being "coffee snobby". I am not sure if Central Coffee does so but I ordered some coffee via their website and have not regretted it. In my view, they roast some of the best coffee I have tasted. We always stop here to pick up a few bags of the Guatemalan beans when we're out in the Shenandoah. For our taste, it's some of the best coffee in the world. And for a buck a cup, it's the perfect place to stop for brewed coffee. Don't bother waiting for the Starbucks in Warrenton. They have several other roasts and you can always sample before you buy. We stopped here on our way out to Skyline Drive. The boyfriend has been before and knows one of the sons, so we had to at least pop in and say hello. As others have mentioned, this isn't a coffee house so don't expect to be able to get a latte or anything. You can get a cup of coffee for $1 donation o the ATC, (which is awesome) and you can buy some fair trade beans. That's it. Oh, and sample the delicious coffees. No fluffy, milky, sugary madness that barely resembles coffee like you find at Starbucks. I normally at least like a splash of milk in my coffee but the stuff here is so smooth that I found I didn't need it. The owners are super friendly and the place is very cute. There's also a beautiful little stream running behind the building and a bench to sit on. According to the owner, sometimes they have live music there in the building as well. No public restrooms, though maybe they make an exception for live music night. read more

We've been buying our coffee here for years and, although they will ship on-line orders, we like to stop by Sperryville to pick up our selection in person, just for a good excuse to go for a Sunday drive or motorcycle ride.
