This was my first time ever in a central computers company! Wow, was I ever impressed!! My son is very techy and was building his own computer. He bought some memory or computer gaming thing online and had the gentleman behind the counter. Check to make sure it was working. Granted he couldn't see exactly what was on the gaming cartridge until he got the rest of it up and running, but we bought the other remaining pieces of his computer here. Everything was incredibly organized and in lockboxes, but the employees were able to unlock and let you look or read the description of each item if need be. I wish I could give better details of all the computer pieces they had but honestly it's way over my head!! They literally had everything my son needed to make his own gaming PC! If you're in the market for a new PC build I highly recommend coming here before ordering online because it's pretty likely they'll have what you need. The store is very well stocked. Every time I walk in here I'm helped almost immediately and one of the guys even offered to help bring stuff out to my car. I also called in about a motherboard and they were able to put it on hold for me too. The service here is truly top notch. I've been here an embarrassing handful of times in the last two days because it's convenient that they have a great selection (also because I'm indecisive.) I needed the following new components updated in my PC build. I got them online and needed them installed. I already had Windows 10 Pro. Motherboard CPU Air cooling fan Power supply I called around to various places on Yelp and was quoted an installation price for each part. It was wildly expensive and cost more than the sum total of the components! I was referred to Central Computers by a coworker and gave them a call. The price they quoted for the work seemed fair and I dropped off my PC and components that day. They have a first come, first serve system and they said my build would be completed in 5 to 7 business days. For something as precious to me as my PC, this seemed very reasonable since it has a lot of wiring and it's something I wanted done right. They actually under-promised and over-delivered because it was done 3 business days later!! I don't assume that this is the case in every scenario but props to them efficiency. Their quality customer service was stellar, from my initial phone call to my pick up. During their building process, they identified my online-purchased motherboard as being dead on arrival from Newegg.com. They had the same motherboard for almost the same price in their inventory and I said to proceed with the replacement. Norm with the CP team also identified that I needed more DDR which they had in stock and I saw he was right. We made that upgrade without any hassle. All in all, had I tried to do this build myself and installed my faulty online motherboard, I would've been stumped for days wondering what happened and being extremely stressed. (Newegg.com accepted my return and provided free shipping which was a seamless process). The Central Computers Manager, whose name I didn't catch, was extremely helpful, and appeared like he coordinated his team with respect and ease. We tested my PC when I picked it up and I felt an immense sense of gratitude for their good work. I wanted to thank whomever worked on my build, so the Manager was kind enough to point out the gentleman who worked on it, and I was able to convey my thanks. I will be back for any upgrades and also recommend checking out CP's existing PCs for sale inside the store. I was quite surprised at the inventory they have. Went to pick up an Asus AM5 M/B and an AMD7800X3D cpu when I order online the previous day at midnight. The person by the door had it ready when I arrived. Also needed a special screwdriver, and someone was proactive and came to help me right away. Store is clean and organized. So many options. 1500$ for cooler master case, mother board, 64GB memory, hard disk, etc. System unstable, freezes when building models. Junk. These components aren't tested or burned in long enough to test for longer term failures. Great at booting the OS they all past that level test. If you want to build models or do work expect random freezes. Freezing means OS is hung. Have to power on off to get the system to reboot to be usable again. No more self build systems. Sticking w Dell or another vendor who has to support corporate customer where the level of dependability is higher. Same problem as with Fry's components. The final system is often unreliable. read more

Was suppose to be there for 10 mins for some Be Quiet! fans and fan connectors, but I ended up staying for 45 since I need neural activation of seeing products physically. They do have restocking fees for (I believe) all items so you gotta commit to the build once products are open. read more

I needed thermal paste replacement for my GPU, but sadly, ended in extreme disappointment. At first, I went to Best Buy's Geek Squad, but they say they don't provide such service. My friend recommended Central Computers because he shops there often, and I was so happy to learn they do thermal paste replacement for GPUs! I turned my GPU in along with newly bought thermal paste. The representative was really tentative and said that the 10 minutes process should be fairly easy. But because they have a backlog of devices needing to be fixed, I will be placed in a queue. The gentleman said it should be done by Thursday. Thursday rolled around. I didn't receive any text or e-mail from Central Computers. I called them 3 hours before they closed, and the gentleman on the other line said my GPU hasn't been serviced yet and said he would ask the technician to put a priority on my GPU. It should be ready by the end of Thursday, or at the latest, Friday. Friday rolled around. Again, I did not receive any update so I called them 3 hours before they close. Another gentleman on the line said the technician isn't working that day. He would be back in the office on Saturday and should be done by then. Ok...I expressed my disappointment to my friend who made the recommendation. He said he's looking to buy something there and will go there on my behalf to see what's going on. He called back soon after saying that the representative told him the technician wouldn't be in the office all weekend, and will be back on Monday. Okkkkk! Apparently no one in the building knows who or when this technician works. I was livid. Not because it's taking so long, but because of this lack of communication and bunch of false promises. I needed the GPU back so I could work over the weekend so I asked my friend to please retrieve my GPU. The representative called me to confirm that I indeed gave the permission to retrieve the GPU. Honestly, I thought Central Computers would be my next favorite computer store to shop because of all the cool gadgets in display at the front. Sadly, I never got the chance to shop there and not sure if I will ever return. My high hope was crushed after being disappointed at Best Buy. Shout out to the Sunnyvale store, especially Jose. I was searching and scouring to find the Pixel Universe keycap set for my Keychron K10. I had looked around Google multiple times and no luck unless I was to have it shipped from Australia or South Korea with higher than MSRP prices and shipping costs that were half the price of the set. Then suddenly Central Computers Sunnyvale enters the chat. I find the set on the site showing 1 in inventory across all of the stores, but I couldn't place the order online (presumably bc of the low inventory that they had). Breaking out of my Xennial mold I actually picked up the phone and called the Sunnyvale store. Their amazing employee, Jose, answers the phone. He not only humors me and calls the web store but he goes the extra mile to call me back twice with progress reports. In the end, I scored the keycap set and Jose scored a special place in my heart. Central Computers still has that indie computer shop vibe well all remember from the 90s and early 2000s. They have kept it real with knowledgeable staff and up-to-date selections of computer parts and peripherals. I called beforehand to see if they had the RAM upgrade needed for my ASUS laptop. Although the speeds were slightly different, they assured me the RAM would be compatible. Upon installing it worked like a charm. Some people with more updated knowledge about PC building and parts replacement can give you some very niche information about how the employees handle parts compatibility and other issues. From the perspective of someone who built his first computer at 11 years old in the 90s, and would go on to build a few more PCs in the 2000s, I can assure you this place has knowledgable employees who care about giving you a positive experience when for PC building or upgrades/replacement parts. read more

I've been a shopper here for not quite 20 years. I go here because of a problem I had at Fry's. These folks only sell quality motherboards, by that, they sell Asus. They might sell another brand now, but they don't sell cheap motherboards like Fry's did. Anyway, they will install the chip and memory into the motherboard and perform a functional check before you leave. That alone is enough reason to purchase your parts there. read more

I purchased an MSI SUPRIM X RTX 4090 from their website and was helped by Heidi who had emailed me regarding my credit card purchase not clearing right away. She had called my phone number registered for the order alerting me that my payment hasn't been cleared and won't make the overnight shipping deadline I had paid for. Rest assured she worked out a deal with me to get the graphics card sent out that day, which to my disbelief was almost too good to be true, no company has ever done that for me and the card arrived low and behold the very next day! I'm very pleased with the customer service provided by the Sunnyvale location and have directed several of my friends to Central Computers to get their 4090 graphics cards ordered out online! I usually buy from Amazon, Newegg, b&h and other major retailer but if there's a good deal on Central Computer I'd definitely conduct business again! They supplier still carry older part and closer to factory and assemble. Speaker now sound clear, and charge port reliable plug and recharge battery. Younger brother bought and gifted my macbook employee discount, 10 year ago since 2014. Will return to central computer for macbook repair, replace part, and item receipt. As long as major and/or very expensed part in my macbook don't fail, and it cheaper to pay down toward new macbook. read more

One of the few places where you can find Nvidia 30 series cards during this era of GPU shortages... Except they charge significantly over MSRP and aren't much better than scalpers at that point. On top of that they make you buy other components so they can make even more money off of you. They claim it's to cover the extra cost of acquiring goods but they've already raised their prices in the wake of tariff news on inventory that probably wasn't even subject to the extra taxes. They're just trying to find every excuse to take advantage of the high demand for these GPUs... GPU rant aside, their customer policies are terrible as well. A few examples: 1) I bought a brand new case and discovered the glass panel had a crack in it. When I asked an employee about whether I could get a replacement panel, he said I'd have to contact the manufacturer directly and that they won't do anything for damages that could have been caused by ME during transport... 2) I tried to buy a part in store that was labeled with a specific price, when they rang me up it was more expensive than labeled. They wouldn't even honor the labeled price even after I showed them their own mistake I'll give them 2 stars just because their staff are generally helpful when picking out parts or giving build advice. But other than that, the store itself has terrible policies aimed at benefiting their business and is not customer friendly at all. If you're desperate for a 30 series card, I was able to get one here but be ready to pay a premium and buy a bunch of extra parts you might not need/want. read more

I'm new to building PCs and purchased a liquid cooler - this cooler has not been updated for the 13th generation Intel CPUs but was not warned or told about this. Had to come back later mid-build to buy it from the store. For a store that is focused on only PC products and services, I do have higher expectations that the staff can forewarn you regarding these issue or at least be more accommodating and understanding when the issues arise. This chain is in-between a big box retailer and a mom and pop store - they will have very specific products you may need for your computer, but they do not have the care and consideration you would get from a smaller, more local store. read more

Swung by to pick up some power bricks and cables for my new iPhone 12 mini. I like the convenient location since it's in a plaza with plenty of parking, I also like how the store is laid out and it's easy to find items according to what you need. I was surprised to see they still had power cables for the iPhone 3g, so I figured I'd snag one to power up my old iPhone. Pretty big selection of items, and it didn't look like it was just filler for the store either, like Fry's. I feel like central computers is what Fry's should've been, fully stocked in stuff that people actually use and stuff that's new at a decent price. When I came by this morning, I was cool to see so many customers buying computer parts. Staff was pretty helpful too and got me out the door quick for the items I picked out. I originally came here for a raffle for a video card and winded up doing a full PC build with no regrets because I had great help from Ben. My decision, not sales:) He helped me while maintaining my budget and offering good recommendations that kept me within range while understanding my goal to get some edge on my gaming. For a Mac/console guy looking to transition to PC, and spending a couple hours on YouTube and Reddit, it was good to have an in person guide. It was quick and painless. I came back for a second visit to get a screen with high refresh rates ( now having a high performing video card , why not), get some minor adjustments (desired to put more RGB and synchronized them) and the team was super helpful. I came in to build a custom 4090 gaming build and had a great experience that I feel compelled to share. A guy named JK helped me out and the dude was awesome. I was on the fence with this ($3,000+) build, originally planning to just buy all parts cheaper online, but JK was so knowledgable about building computers that I decided to go all in. First of all it's nice having a retail store in Silicon Valley that actually has ultra hard to find parts like the Nvidia 4090 GPU in stock at MSRP. For reference, this item is selling for near $1,000 OVER MSRP online at places like eBay. And good luck finding this GPU anywhere else including Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, etc. Impossible right now. But what I really want to highlight is JK's knowledge of building computers. He gave me all sorts of tips on how to arrange the fans, what parts I should buy, the pros and cons, etc. He showed me where I could save money, for example, that an i9-13900 build was probably overkill for this type of build. Even though they have a paid service where they build computers for you, I felt no pressure to go this way and they were happy to share their knowledge with me knowing I was opting out of this option. And JK had some REALLY deep knowledge on GPUs. He knew, for example, that the Zotac version of the 4090 was larger than the MSI 4090, so I'd need to get a huge case to fit it. He even knew about the cable melting issues with the 4090 and gave me great tips on how to avoid it, including using power supply units with native 12v support (ATX 3.0), ensuring cables are plugged in all the way, minimizing bend, and only bending the cable vertically instead of horizontally. I highly doubt any other place in the Bay Area can give you this type of highly specific info right off the top of their heads. No way even the Best Buy "Geek Squad" would know any of this. Heck, I doubt even Nvidia technical support would give me this information. At the end of it all JK quadruple checked to make sure I had all the right parts and that they were compatible. He seemed just as paranoid about it all as I was. In fact he even helped me carry everything to my car, insisting that it was a premium build and the utmost precaution should be taken. This included helping me move various baby gear and strollers around my car so everything would fit. Could I have bought everything online, hunting various deals on r/buildapcsales or Slickdeals, and saved a couple hundred bucks? Maybe. But that would require a lot of work finding everything (especially a 4090), mailing in rebates, ensuring compatibility (even with pcpartpicker I am not 100% confident), dealing with various return policies, and waiting for it all in the mail. Who knows what else could go wrong too. But at Central Computers I just gave them a phone call and they had every part I needed available with no wait at the Sunnyvale store (including the rarer items such as an ATX 3.0 1000W psu), and should I need additional help, they are just a short drive or phone call away. Anyway definitely recommend you check em out, ask for JK. *** UPDATE *** I went back today to buy more stuff (SSD, air coolers, RGB, etc). This time JK wasn't there so I was talking to this big brown dude (sorry didn't get your name) and he was awesome too. He was very honest to me about whether I needed a bigger/faster SSD for my gaming use cases and PC specs (I didn't) and didn't try to sell me anything at all. We got into in depth discussions on cooling as well (best air coolers for an i5 13600 for gaming) and it was good knowing that of the two people I've shopped with here, both were extremely knowledgable. While discussing a very niche PSU issue I was having (my 12v cable only goes up to 450W, and I'm looking for 600W cable for my 4090, ATX 3.0 required) a manager overhead and helped secure me a special, very hard to find PSU. Excellent! On the drive home this all reminded me of how much a shame it is that in Silicon Valley, of all places, we don't have a solid PC / electronics store. I'm old enough to remember the heydays of Fry's Electronics here where there would be 20 active cashiers on any given day. While that's no longer a thing anymore, it's great to know we still have a strong store that carries niche products and has ultra-knowledgable staff as well. Imagine building a new PC with parts online from random websites only to find you're missing some bracket needed to fit your motherboard. The customer service journey and wait for that sounds like a nightmare. Fortunately I think Central Computers is our fix here. We pay more for everything here in the valley. I don't even want to know how much this place pays in rent each month. But I'm glad we have a strong local store with niche products and great service that still charges at MSRP or below. That's something I'm willing to support so it stays around here. If you're on the fence, I think it's worth giving this place a shot. Good luck! read more

Service at this Sunnyvale location is hit or miss depending on the staff member you seek for help. Yes, you must usually seek assistance. Be careful of the "techs" working on computer builds, they may insult you as their tolerance is the lowest. They will ask you what research did you do before coming to the store rather than what your goal is. Just what you needed... a confrontation. One person will be helpful... out of four or five. Honestly, thank you for being that person that finally helped me after multiple visits. In my experience, the signs aside the products I was interested in, behind the glass, don't match the motherboard product. wrong price, wrong name make it hard to shop. On one visit, after purchasing a new processor and new motherboard the customer service representative allowed me to depart without RAM for the new system that I purchased. It's that kind of service and attention to detail that keeps me coming back. ;-) I also question the quality of the some of unbranded products that they sell. One of two PCI risers inexplicably stopped working in less then 60 days. It was installed and then rarely if ever touched or rebooted. I compare this to the much less expensive 6-pack of PCI risers purchased from Amazon; which are working great without experiencing any untimely failures. read more
