Nice selection of frames combined with excellent customer service makes for a great eyewear shopping experience. Though on the expensive side ( this IS West Hartford, after all), I do love this store. My wife accidentally broke her glasses right at the bridge. I was expecting the worst- complete replacement of the frame (and probably the lenses too as they are a couple of years old. That's an expensive proposition to say the least. However, when I brought the broken glasses in, they told me they could send the frame out for repair and that it should be back in seven days. Wow- that was a big relief!!! I bought my glasses from Central Optica for nearly 30 years. They have always had a great selection of frames. I always liked the owners. I brought a pair of glasses for an adjustment, and the technician gouged a lens near the frame contact. This created a distracting blur on that side of the lens. I spoke with a manager and one of the owners, and they said I would have to pay for a lens replacement because the warranty had expired. The best they could do was a 25 percent discount on an expensive progressive lens. I would consider buying glasses at Central Optica again, but I would not have them do an adjustment after the warranty period. They can be careless, and that can be very expensive. read more

I'm currently working out of town, and had some issues with my frames (purchased back home) being too wide for my head causing me to have frequent headaches. My boss who is from C.T, recommended Central Optica. The decor inside is outstanding for the cute little store front on a busy strip of shops. I came in, told them my issue and the gentleman (I should have gotten your name, you were awesome!!!) fixed my frames up like new within a few minutes. I went in today to get my glasses put back together (lenses were knocked out of their frame and frame was bent). They re-strung the bottom of the frames, popped the lenses back in, straightened the frame and cleaned the lenses....all free of charge. It took no more than 10 minutes, and I treated courteously throughout. Wonderful experience! read more

I enjoy the great variety they have with many frames to choose from and their excellent work they do fitting my frames and filling prescriptions. Let me begin this by saying I VERY rarely do on line reviews, but when a place is as exceptional as Central Optica is for eyeglasses, I felt everyone should know! I have been getting my eyeglasses from Central Optica for more years than I would like to remember. I used to live much closer to the store when I first began getting my eyeglasses from here. Once I moved and their location moved from the Hartford Civic Center mall (many years ago), I couldn't go anyplace else! It is definitely worth the trip. Their customer service, patience and high quality eyeglasses are matched by no other eyeglass establishment I've ever been to. They take time in making sure you are happy with your choice of frames, they fit correctly and the customer is completely happy with the experience. 5 stars on the frames. Everything else, no stars. The first time I bought glasses from the it took 3 tries to get the sweet spot on my progressives correct. But, since they are the only game in town to offer some of the most beautiful frames, I went back for another try when I needed another pair. This time, however, I bought the frames from them and had the prescription filled at a reputable place in Glastonbury. (Where they did it right the first time.) I went back to Central Optica to have the frame adjusted AND THEY MELTED THE LENSES! ! By phone the owner promised to make it right, but the man who sold me the frames called back and told me it wasn't his fault. Told me I should have known the melting point of the plastic lenses in my frames! My fault? !?!?! What a weasel! Luckily, the good people in Glastonbury replaced the now marred lenses for free. My coworker recommend this store to me and I was excited to look for new eyeglasses. She talked so highly about it but my experience was not so pleasant. I was greeted by one of the employees and she asked me if I needed help. I told her I wanted to browse around and I would ask for help in a few. They have beautiful frames and I found a few frames that I really liked. Unfortunately I didn't buy a pair. I had a few pairs in my hands and thought to myself this is great I have a good selection so far. The employee that greeted me approaches me and was extremely aggressive and tells me that I'm damaging the frames and tells me to put the frames on a tray. She hands me the tray and I continue to look around. She approaches me again and tells me I'm going to scratch the frames and that they are expensive because I had one or two frames on top of each other. I couldn't believe I was being talked to like a child and being yelled at. I didn't know what to say or how to react to it. I told her that I was going to come back because I needed time to think about it. I will never step foot in that store again. If that is how they treat their customers. I understand that they have expensive frames but they will never gain a new customer if they have that employee working there. It's sad that I couldn't give them my business because overall the store is beautiful and so is their product. read more
