I like these guys! I bought a quart of paint, custom mixed, only to find once I'd painted part of the table that the paint color I selected was oh, sigh, milk chocolate instead of what I envisioned. So I went back to buy another quart only to have them say "bring the paint back-- we can re-tint it." So I brought the paint back, selected a bittersweet chocolate color, and returned later that day to pick up my newly re-tinted paint. Great paint. Went on like velvet. Covered the not-pretty color with a deep dark chocolate brown. What service! read more

I drove almost an hour since they are truly the only store nearby that sells Benjamin Moore advance which was what I needed for my cabinets and hoping it wouldn't be a bust. I NEVER leave reviews but I want to commend their customer service because they went above and beyond. From the color matching to what all I needed plus instructions. My cabinets came out BEAUTIFUL. I was in Berkeley, but moved to Gainesville recently. Benjamin Moore is my choice for paint. Not surprisingly, my home here has different light and so I have to find new interior colors for the furniture and rugs I've brought. In the coming weeks, I will be visiting the store for help. I can not say enough about the team at Benjamin Moore! To start off, my wife and I purchased an 80 year old farm & house. I decided to restore the original heart pine floors. I could not find the materials I needed (Gal cans of Poly) BM was the ONLY STORE in TOWN with the selection I needed. Being my first experience at this, I garnered some assistance from a friend who had 309 yrs of experience with floors. WE sanded and prepped. Stay away. I needed to match a color sample from another source so I had to go in to assure a match. Wore my mask as I am elder. No masks on those serving customers or at the cash register. Nor were those coming in the store asked to put on masks. I spoke about it with the man behind the counter, who answered he'd heard: (1) been told masks don't work, (2) mostly fat people and those that don't eat right that die, (3) mostly those in nursing homes. If you want to buy local, good quality paint & receive old fashioned good service, this may be the paint store for you. As you enter, it kinda feels like stepping back in time. The three staffers are older, they are knowledgeable (no paint-challenged, part-time high school or college youth here), & they provide excellent customer service. As customers enter, you'll quickly realize the patrons are regulars. These men in their Cental Paint Store company shirts welcome them by name & quickly anticipate their needs. I was privy to conversations that made it apparent staff knows paint (& painting projects). Prices are not low. (I had a choice between $42 & $62 a gallon.) You'll definitely pay for the expertise, the paint quality & for hometown service. If you can afford it, a trip over to NW 13th will be worth your time. They make time for you; there's no rushing-- just good service. My "Can I use exterior paint on an interior wall" was greeted w/ a most thorough & detailed explanation. There's something to be said for an owner/manager who obviously has decades of experience & knowledge under his belt. Once you shop here, an index card w/ your info will be created so there's a record of what paint you used on what wall (in case years later you wish to return for more). Definitely "old school," which adds to this business' charm. Easy access at the intersection of NW 13th & NW 7th w/ a handful of parking spaces. If you arrive early, you'll contend w/ contractors, so shop later in the morning if it's time and attention you need prior to the start of your painting project. (Note: I didn't take the pictures; they were found online.) Update: The exterior paint they "color matched" for me using their trusty machine worked beautifully. I am supremely impressed with Central Paint Store. I used to be a loyal Sherwin Williams painter, but upon my move to Gainesville, I realized the service/expertise at the local SW is lacking, to say the least (I once had a SW employee tell me that I needed to buy a GALLON of stain for a simple bedframe project. What a joke!). I'm happy with the quality of the Benjamin Moore line of paints CPS carries, but what will keep me coming back is the service and know-how of the men behind the counter. I walked in recently with my project in mind (painting raw wood children's chairs), described it, asked for recommendations and immediately had good advice in technique and selection handed over by one of their employees. Additionally, as I was painting at home, I came across another technique question, called the store, and again, got expert advice. Yes, I could have consulted some internet forum, but I like the personal interaction and the immediacy of a real conversation. I'm done with Sherwin Williams (unless I know exactly what I want and how I'll use it before heading there), and have switched my loyalties to locally owned/operated Central Paint Store. read more
