We were thrilled with our accommodations. We had a cottage and it was sparkling clean. The kitchenet had a table for four, a microwave, small refrigerator and electric tea pot (nice touch!) We enjoyed the fireplace as evenings in PG can be quite chilly. We enjoyed being able to walk everywhere and we loved the historical aspect of the Inn. There is a small parking lot on the property, but we chose to park on the street (it's free) because there was a space right in front of our cottage door. The staff is very friendly. The star was lost because of the poor breakfast. Cold bagels, no butter, tiny, tasteless cold pastries. Sad because the little breakfast room with its cozy seating is very inviting. read more

I really wanted to love this hotel but the day we checked in the lady at the front desk was incredibly rude. It felt like we were inconveniencing her by having the audacity to check into our room. The room was small but that's fine, it's to be expected. Note that the walls are THIN AS CAN BE. I could hear the room next to us flush their toilet. I wish I was joking. The worst part was the shower head. The first day it was spraying a bit to the sides and got the bathroom floor a little wet. The second day all hell broke loose and the entire bathroom was soaked after a 5 minute shower. I had to wipe down the counter, the toilet, and the sink from all the shower water. I've never experienced anything like it. The "continental breakfast" is pathetic. Cold and tiny pastries and blueberry bagels. So expect to eat elsewhere for breakfast. I recommend Winston's around the corner (it's outstanding). The lady at the front desk the day we checked out and that I reported the shower leak to was very hospitable. To be honest, she was the only positive part of this entire experience. I'm just so disappointed in this place. I was really looking forward to our stay but it fell short in every way plus some. My family was hoping to find a personal and warm bed and breakfast type stay. The style of this location seemed like it might offer that. However, as many have said recently, the overall feel of the location was not great. Though (I believe) this place is labeled a 3 star location, it is probably closer to a 2 star in terms of quality just to set your expectations. The building is old and somewhat falling apart. Room definitely felt that way. Sheets and towels have that worn out, dingy, faded look - some stains. Big dead spider smeared against the ceiling - guess the staff didn't see that and clean it. Honestly I don't care that much about these things but my wife was hoping it'd feel a bit nicer. The food: parfait was good. Otherwise they leave out some standard cold bagels and pastries which get taken quickly but also weren't even good. I had hoped food would have been put out in a nicer more welcoming way but it all kind of felt like minimal effort was put into the atmosphere of that. The building itself felt somewhat dark, cold (not literal), and uninviting somehow. The multifloor layout was kind of neat though. My kid thought it was cool. I think my biggest disappointment was that the staff just seemed like they didn't care. They weren't rude but they gave the impression that they were just there to give the bare minimum support and nothing more. I had requested something and waited in the main living room for at least half an hour. At some point I was reassured they were on top of it. I checked in again and it turned out they forgot somehow...despite me being basically the only person standing awkwardly in the lobby the entire time. They weren't busy either... Overall I think if you can get a good price and all you really care about is a place to stay and location, this place is okay. It does have close access to some decent restaurants and the beach. It is also walking distance (slightly longer) to the aquarium. So location is good. However, if you want a place that feels warm and inviting, I would not recommend this location in its current state. read more

We have been staying at the Centrella for many years. Someone needs to come from the Corporate office to purchase new sheets and towels and review their policies. This is one of my favorite places to stay in ALL THE LAND! I adore the historical facts and old school antique feel to the whole hotel. It's awesome! The prices for the rooms are very low for the Monterey Area... actually the prices are low for any area, really. The breakfast is amazing with their array of pastries and their fruit parfaits . They have a wine time at night with a complimentary glass (white or red) that's delicious. But the BEST part is the staff. Olivia at the front desk is absolutely amazing. She showed me around when I decided to stay a little longer and found that I loved their little cottage outside. She was also very sweet and comforting when she found out i was here spreading my Moms ashes. Renee is also nice as can be and adorable. He's very knowledgeable about the area! So I love staying here! In fact, I was offered a free night at a hotel/spa close to here, but I still opted to stay here and pay instead. That was a no-brainer! I cannot stop thinking about how much I loved our stay at Centrella!! I have been daydreaming about it ever since we left. We usually stay in big chain hotels with no character, and I am so glad we booked something different! It looks and feels like an old home with its Victorian style, and the old black & white portraits on the walls give it a spooky ghost feel to it, which I loved. The wallpaper, the carpet, I was eating it all up. Our bed was very comfortable. One of my favorite aspects was the breakfast and the breakfast room. The very friendly woman at the front desk brought us fruit and yogurt parfaits each morning, and they had some pastries, plain bagels, OJ, and coffee. I loved having my little mug of coffee with the pastries and the yogurt. The breakfast room was very sunny, and faced a bunch of trees and a side patio. Just a beautiful way to start your morning! And the staff were so friendly and accommodating. Street parking is free and easy to find, so we didn't mind not getting one of the five spots in the small lot out front. The location is close to so much - down the block from the beach and a museum, and less than 10 minutes from downtown Monterey. I hope to stay at Centrella again someday!! We have been coming to this bed and breakfast for 32 years and it has gone down into the dumps. In the mornings they run out of coffee, the breakfasts are a joke, they have nearly nothing available to eat (it's not even a continental breakfast. Cold bagels and tiny store bought pastries) even though they claim to have a breakfast in the morning,m. They can't even provide their guests with almond or oat milk. Paint chipping, mildew you can scrape off with your fingernail, ripped carpeting, yuck! We have never been so disappointed with this place before, but are sorry we ever set foot in it again. read more

Booked this place through Airbnb. The Pros: The front desk lady was super nice. They do offer complimentary cookies and a glass of wine/champagne in the evening. They are down the street from Lovers Point which is cool. They have complimentary coffee/juice in the morning. The Cons: The room itself is small. The walls are very thin. The bed was not the comfiest. The water being offered in the lobby tasted pretty bad, I'd say it was tap water for sure. My Wife and I decided to have our 12th Wedding Anniversary weekend in Pacific Grove. I selected something a little different and decided on the Centrella Inn because of its Victorian style and its history. We had an EXCELLENT stay there. We got a text that our room was ready early while we were on our way there. Got lucky and found parking in the parking lot in front parking lot. Checked in with no issues whatsoever. And we were happily surprised with our room on the second floor. We got the side street view, and the room adjacent was under construction so there was no one in it obviously. They were working on it when we were there a few hours both Friday and Saturday but it wasn't loud by any means. We were two blocks from the beach and did a lot of walking and sight seeing. Also visited the Historical Museum of Pacific Grove a block away which was really cool. And all of the restaurants were seriously one block away. The complimentary breakfast was good as well. As was the coffee and orange juice. And there were historical artifacts in the dining area such as the "Fragile Chair." I read the other reviews about paper thin walls and noise. That didn't affect our stay at all. We had a WONDERFUL stay and will come back in the near future. read more

I stayed here semi-recently for a night. I've never stayed here before, but always passed by for years. I checked in and found out there was an additional "fee" I had to pay which wasn't online when booked. I went up to my room and it was a small little thing, but worked. I was advised by staff about grab and go breakfast which was available in morning's. I woke the next day and was told there's only plain bagels to eat. Short anniversary getaway with the hubs and we stayed at Centrella Inn for 3 nights. The location of the inn was great! Walking distance to Cannery Row and a couple blocks away from downtown PG and the beach. Also close to the Pacific Grove Golf Links. Quaint little inn. Staff were very friendly. We found our room to be comfortable - appreciated the little sitting area. Bed was comfortable - we slept well. Floor was creaky but we didn't mind that much. Enjoyed their fresh scones every morning- crisp and buttery. Their yogurt parfaits were also a great start to our day. We were looking for something new for our Monterey/Carmel trip. We were so happy to come across this quaint inn. We booked 2 twins rooms. Stayed at the first floor room #3 and 4. The girls were fine with it. The elders need a little bit more quiet arrangement. Room 1-5 located in the hall away that connect the front door and the reception. So you can hear people walking around. Plus being on the first floor, you can hear the patrons on the upper floor. We would request for the upper floor next time. They have a stand alone cottage. That would be a better choice also. However, they only have queen beds. read more

Great place to stay close to Monterey! We walked from the inn to Monterey bay aquarium and that strip of shops 2.5-3 miles round trip walk. Lots of coffee shops and local restaurants to eat at all within walking distance. Pacific Grove has a very small town feel and super cute! Staff was great- they have fresh baked scones and cookies served every day and complimentary breakfast (yogurt parfait) and coffee every morning. The beds were comfortable and I slept like a baby both nights! I highly recommend staying here if you are on a budget and could use some amenities.... As far as toiletries- shampoo, conditioner and bath soap provided. Didn't have any toothpaste or toothbrush that I saw in the bathroom. Local Safeway nearby and grocery stores if you need it. If you are a gym rat like me, there is an Anytime Fitness nearby you can get a day pass for. Otherwise the running trails are great. read more

Update: we stayed here again in early 2024, and unfortunately the experience was vastly worse. - Shower water in cottage, as well as the bedroom in general, had a sewage-like odor. - Check-in is unreasonably late at 4 p.m. The promised text message alerting of room availability never arrived. Possibly the kirkwood takeover has resulted in skimping on maintenance. Plus one star for the positive attitude of the receptionist at breakfast. We will not be returning unless we hear these issues have been addressed. read more

What's being sold as old town charm is actually just a really run down house. An old ("historic") just means they get to invest next to nothing in upkeep and pretend that it was designed that way. It smells like mold, walls are thin, the sink backs up, there was a literal bugger on the wall in the room; this place is gross. Booked Victoria Premier directly to bed and breakfast. Requested a corner room based on the reviews which I recommend. Room was slightly bigger. Room has a mini fridge, no dresser to place your clothes, nice modern bathroom and comfortable bed. We stayed in room #14 faces street. Quiet room however just be warned your next door neighbor when they leave in the morning might scare you. (Sounds like they are trying to come into your room but it is just them leaving) Light breakfast served a scone, yogurt parfait, orange juice and coffee or tea. (Hopefully full breakfast returns). Evening freshly baked chocolate chip cookies or peanut butter cookies and wine. (Hopefully regular appetizers return) Received friendly, good customer service. Close to everything. Farmer's market on Sundays is 2 blocks away. Plenty of restaurants close by. Only bad thing is parking their is only 5 slots on the premises. Plenty of street parking however for some reason this town was busy this wkend so street parking was difficult which is thee last thing I want to search after a long day. Nestled into the heart of downtown Pacific Grove, I found myself enamored with the Centrella Hotel's 1920s old world charm. With Tiffany lamps glowing in common areas, a sunny breakfast room overlooking a tree covered outdoor patio, and an impeccably mannered and wonderfully warm front desk staff; our stay felt comfortable and special from the first moments of our arrival. The hotel is very clearly the pride and joy of a very guest oriented, caring group of people and despite the hotel's architectural age, we were not bothered by noise outside of our room and slept comfortably despite our room's adjacency to the street. As for the location, it could not be better. You'll find yourself within walking distance to wonderful restaurants and the downtown hum of Pacific Grove. Beyond this, I reccommend taking a five minute walk down the block when the late evening rolls around and stargazing on Lover's Point beach. read more

Such a cute bed and breakfast in Pacific Grove! There's not much for me to add that most reviews haven't captured. We visited Pacific Grove the first weekend in May and stayed in Cottage 3, which is incredibly quaint. There were 3 adults in our group and one of us slept on the futon in the "living room" of the cottage. Unfortunately, it was not comfortable, so that's important to know before you go. The other bed in Cottage 3 seems to be full size. It was fine for me and my petite cousin but I don't think it would accommodate me and my husband comfortably. Also, as many reviewers pointed out, this property only has about 6 off-street parking spots, but finding street parking was not an issue. And there's street parking outside the street-facing door of the cottage so it was closer for us to park there. Even though this property serves a free breakfast of a yogurt parfait and pastries, we found that we were still hungry and needed to supplement our breakfast. All things considered, I would definitely recommend this property for a short stay when visiting Pacific Grove! read more

Centrella Inn is such a quaint bed and breakfast in Pacific Grove. Great location! It's in downtown and it's so nice to walk around and window shop or look around for antique stores or book stores or cafes. Our room was very nice and they did serve breakfast in the morning, you could eat it outside in their courtyard or take it to your room. My husband and I enjoyed our stay here, I would have given them 5 stars except for two things: the windows aren't designed to be closed completely and the air quality that weekend wasn't good. The other thing is that my husband noticed that sometimes they were a bit lax with safety precautions like one person was talking to another person with her mask down or that he was handed our breakfast tray instead of just setting it down. What's nice about staying in Monterey though is that they're very strict with mask guidelines and you'll get fined if you don't wear a mask! So it was quite nice to walk around the area or by the pier knowing that most people around you are following the rules and keeping safe :) read more

Stayed during COVID so there were definitely changes from original amenities and reviews. Staying in Pacific Grove is the much better deal than staying in Monterey because it is less crowded than the Cannery Row area and cheaper. This bed and breakfast is in a beautiful historic Victorian house just a 4 minute walk from Lover's Point and the beach. This bed and breakfast also has a large variety of rooms from a queen bed, king bed, big rooms, small rooms, pet friendly cottages, and ADA specific rooms. The woman at the front desk was very welcoming. As we were checking in, a man reading a newspaper began talking to my partner, we thought he was just being a friendly stranger but he ended up being the owner. During check in, the front desk woman showed us 2 different Victorian Premiere rooms and let us pick which we wanted. With the stay we were given a free shrimp appetizer for the Beach House restaurant just a 3 minute walk toward the beach, where we did end up eating dinner. Although there would normally have been a wine afternoon and cookies in the evening, they were not provided because of COVID. We were still given a continental breakfast with a frittata and various sides, however the menu selection was very tiny in comparison to past menus I had looked up before because of COVID. Their scones were also moist and amazing, felt more like cookies but I'm not complaining they were delicious. Everyone had to eat in the garden instead of the cute inside dining area, but it gave us a chance to look around at the flowers. I would definitely stay here again if I planned another trip to Monterey. read more

We chose this inn because it offered the best price for the time we wanted, and in that context, I'd rate it a 4 star. We had room 22 at the top of the stairs, which was small but comfortable. Initially, the smell of the cleaner used was really overwhelming, but as that odor faded we realized there was a heavy smell of potpourri ( although didn't see any). We managed to get a window open and use the fan to blow in some fresh air. Also, the heat in the room was way too high but we turned that off. The bathroom was fine except for a tiny sink, which meant water splashed all over whenever one used it. The manager was friendly. We stayed briefly for the wine hour, but the red was really awful and we decided to go into town. Breakfast the next morning was excellent. Homemade frittata (lots of choices) and home fries. Salty but tasty. Fresh scones, etc. Really nicely done. Location is great for walking about town, but you need to drive to get into downtown Monterey. read more

We really enjoyed our stay at Centrella. We stayed in a small cottage while in a road trip with our granddaughter. The buildings are very old so hardware and plumbing are not ideal yet this is part of the charm. The service was excellent. The scones were a highlight in the morning. After reading the wonderful info on their website, I made a reservation to treat my daughter to a night away at the Centrella Hotel in Pacific Grove. Our experience was underwhelming. We checked in and had to sign a Covid Waiver. The desk clerk told us a lost key was $25.00, then pointed to a steep stairway leading to our room. No elevator, just a lot of stairs. He was nice but he didn't offer to help us up with our luggage. The room was so old and unsightly. He said there was no charge for parking, but the truth is, they do not have a place for their customers to park. I was told to find a place on the street somewhere. I drove around and around and finally found one far from the hotel. The heater did not work, and the furnishings were so old. The shower was weak, and the hair dryer fell off the wall and didn't work. No food, snacks, or waters were available. No coffeemaker in the room. The homemade granola breakfast with fresh fruit they advertise did not exist. They served mini muffins and mini pastries. The cost was over $500 a night. I wish I had asked more questions before I booked a night at the Centrella Hotel. read more

Cute B&B that is very reasonably priced. Great location, approx. 20 minutes walk along the bay to get to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row, and a couple of blocks to get to several Pacific Grove restaurants and shops. Our room (room 20) was quite small but based on pics and other reviews, I think some of the other rooms are a bit larger. Our room did not have a desk, dresser, in-room safe, or mini-fridge, but it did have an armoire with hangers. The room (including bathroom) was clean. Staff were extremely friendly! Breakfast of yogurt parfait, scones, and orange juice was included and delicious. Complimentary tea, coffee, water, and baked goods (cookies or brownies) were always available (as far as I could tell), as well as a glass of wine in the evenings. Don't stay here. It's not worth the cost of $320 per night plus $20 facility fees and other. It would be a beautiful old building but they do not take care of it at all. The front desk was difficult to find and not welcoming staff. The downstairs room has busted furniture, the front ground windows blinds do not close so there is no privacy from the street. No AC there is a box fan from the 80's which makes a ludicrous amount of noise. The queen size bed squeaks. Everything is mix matched and worn. Chipping point on all furniture. No mini fridge or coffee maker. Teeny tiny room. For $320!! It's just sad that the owners don't make this place as wonderful as it could be. For the price I would have stayed somewhere else. Definitely not a cute Victorian bed and breakfast. A holiday inn or quality inn would be more accommodating and that would be half the price. read more

Erna, I am happy to tell you that the incorrectly double-charged $167.76 one night stay at Centrella Inn has finally been refunded to me. It should not have taken 15 days and multiple phone calls to correct this error. It's absolutely ludicrous and pathetic in this day of electronic banking and communication. This Centrella Inn/Hotel fiasco has left lasting bad feelings and a distrust of what may have once been a decent mom and pop establishment, but is now another soulless corporation that is near impossible to deal with.
