I knew half way through the half hour I was at the salon that I was NEVER coming back. I went in this morning (Sunday Jan. 3, 2010). I was the only client because they had just opened. I asked for pink and white full set. She slapped plastic white tips and a thin layer of pink powder instead. I let it happen because I was in a hurry, but I couldn't believe when she drilled the tops of my nails too deep and filled them with super glue! And I agree with the first post. I somehow always manage to come back! I have been going to Century Nails for the past 5 years and never had a bad experience, even when they're super busy. I moved to San Clemente last year and tried places in my area but still end up coming back. Ms Van and Ms Kathy always do a fabulous job on my eyebrows. They both are very precise and careful with their work, always so in tune with what they are doing, yet still able to carry on a conversation with you. They always take care of their clients here and make them feel relaxed. The only downfall here is sometimes they are under staffed and way too busy, but it's worth the wait! Plus, the staff works really great together, sometimes even working on multiple clients so no one is ever waiting too long. I also wished they'd move to San Clemente! I highly reccomend this place. Walked in with a friend from out of town and was greeted with "we are busy". Three technicians working on people, no waiters and they had no other way to say nicely that we would need to wait? Terrible place! Massage chair didn't work, jets for the water didn't work and for the acrylic nail set they kept adding charges. This place wasn't too bad. There is plenty of parking and everyone was very nice that worked there. I went in for a eye brow waxing and they had me in and out in about 10 mins. The lady was very quick but good. It wasn't very painful which having thick eye brows it usually is. The only bad thing about this place was they only take cash. I love the quality of work done here! My only issue is that they recently transitioned to cash only, which I find SUPER inconvenient. My nails and eyebrow waxing always look great, and the staff is very kind. I just moved to Oceanside and went to this place for a mani/pedi because it was nearby. When I walked in I was getting my cash together so I wouldn't have to look for it with wet nails. Before one of the girls started to paint my nails she asked me to pay. She told me it was $30 (which I thought was quite pricey). I handed her my card because I only had $31 in cash. She said 'cash only'. I told her I only had $31 and she said it was ok 'this time'. The two women continued to work but finished very quickly. As I was sitting there I noticed they had a credit machine behind the counter. I decided just to pay the $31 because I was pissed that she lied just so she could get my cash. After I got home I noticed that my feet still had dry skin, my nails still had hang nails etc....and later that night my big toe got infected!!! I needed to get a pedicure, do I thought I'd give this place a try. They've recently changed locations. They used to be a few doors down from the library. Now, they are just across the way from Taco Bell, next to the check cashing place and dry cleaners. Century Nails advertised itself as an upscale nail salon. For the most part, they live up to that. The prices are definitely indicative of such. The average price for a pedi in the area is about $15.00. Here, its $20.00. The owner Van is super nice and very customer service friendly. She offered me cold water and soda twice during my visit. Apparently, everyone there was new except the two sisters. Van seemed to be coaching a couple of the ladies through things. Kathy did my pedi. It was a bit rough, but in her defense she did have to remove my gel toe nails. I enjoyed her recommendations. She had great ideas. read more

Ok, so I called to make an appointment and I was told there was an opening at 4pm. I took that appointment, but then received a phone call a few minutes later saying they were busy today and the rest of the week? Very unprofessional and questionable? That may have been because the last time I had my nails done by Van, she rushed and did a half job on the polish. The sides were not polished and the color needed 3 coats but she only put 2. When I walked outside, you could see the smears in my nails, it was not even. It looked like I had did them myself, so I went back in and POLITELY asked to get another coat. Van had a horrible attitude but I said thank you and even tipped a couple more dollars, not wanting to have any problems. Van is good when she takes her time. But her attitude is horrible for dealing with customers. Is is really too many other nail shops around that are clean and have better attitudes! After spending over $60, I think I deserve to have my nails polished neatly! I will not be back. I will not kiss butt to a rude person that I am paying! It had been a while since my last mani pedi. I just moved to Oceanside & didn't know where to go. Saw this place on google, it was close, decided to give it a try. I always get the same things pretty much. Full Set & Pedi with white tips. They were quick with service, & pretty friendly. Van did my nails, I didn't catch the womans name who did my pedi.. but I've had better. She didn't seem to happy to be doing my pedi (& my feet are not ugly). I understand that maybe doing toenails for a living isn't the most pleasing thing, i didn't expect her to jump for joy.. She just seemed a little more concerned that she had to stop texting. While she was cutting my nails she seemed a little careless, & gave my big toe one round side & one square side (ew) & when I got home I noticed air bubbles in the white part. Not a huge deal, but like I said, I've had better. My nails started to peel off the same day? Wtheck? That's never happened to me before. They looked nice when I walked out though. I would say the best service I got from Van is my eyebrow wax, even though it seemed like it took her a couple of tries -.- they came out amazing! All and all, it was ok. I wouldn't say outstanding.. I'll go back for my eyebrows maybe, but I'll keep looking for someone who's happy to make my nails happy (: For my fullset, pedi with white tips, eyebrow & lip wax, it came out to 64$ before tip. & then I went to pay with my card & I saw the sign on the counter saying "cash only". I used to come here regularly when I was pregnant with my 1st child who is now 15! Yesterday I brought my youngest for a couple of pedicures and they were just as friendly and inexpensive as they were 15 years ago. Basic pedicure won't break your wallet ($25) and I didnt feel up-saled at all. Their message chairs needed to be updated, so that's why I'm giving them 4 stars. read more

This place is amazing! It's very clean and open and quiet and well ventilated (for us pregnant gals lol) and was just wonderful! Everyone was so nice and friendly and it was a great experience. I will definitely be coming here for my pedicures from now on! Anytime I had a question or needed more assistance (like with the corners of my big toes, because I can get awful in-growns) they listened to me and fixed what I was concerned with and it was just a wonderful over all experience! I came in, no one else was here in the salon. I was in no rush at all(I'm a mom of two and it's not often I get to go out and pamper myself). I wanted a pedicure and a full set. They worked on my fullest while I was getting a pedicure. I couldn't even enjoy it. On top of that she was done in 30 minutes. For both the pedi and full set. This nail salon is not sanitary. I went in for a pedicure and after the nail tech was done she wiped the equipment she used on my feet with alcohol and walked behind the counter and I heard the lady fumbling with paper/plastic. As I walked up to the counter to pay my bill she walked away to grab something and I looked over the counter and saw the same equipment she used on me put back in the what is supposed to be packed with new clean/sterile equipment. They use self seal sterilization pouches, they DO NOT properly sterilize their equipment. And yes I do know it was the same equipment that was used for my pedi because it had the same spot where the sticker was removed and the sticky residue from the sticker was not completely taken off. Also they did not clean out the foot spa basin either... I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THAT SALON AGAIN!!!!! read more

I thought I give my neighborhood nail place a try and support the local business. I will NEVER come here again. Terrible attitude, and the worst gel manicure ever. She did a horrible job. Went all over my cuticles and just made my nails look cheap. On top it looked like she had no idea what I was telling her. Worst experience ever. Came in for a manicure and the manicurist was very rough. Using her nails to scrape off excess nail polish while she painted, hurt very much. She made me bleed and cut me while she was filing, I will never return again. My fingers hurt from her rough handling. Price was reasonable and they got me in pretty much right away but I just thought it was really rough and I wasn't very satisfied. However, the end product looks okay. Mrs. Van is amazing! So friendly and personable. I went in there a year later after they moved a couple doors down and I am so happy to hear from her that her store is being noticed more! Ultimately because they deserve it with their excelent customer service and ultimately the best artificial nails I have had done. They always do their best work their even if they do hurry it does not come out as if they did. Good nail technicians are few and far in between I believe that is why at times they are understaffed. But this may be for the best because that shows that Mrs.Van only wants the best. I am writing this review because I have been going to Century ever since I moved to California 3 years ago and sadly leaving this gem of a nail salon behind as I will be moving out of state. A friend of mine highly recommended this nail shop. We tried to go once but it was very busy. Today I arrived at about 1030am and they had two customers in the chairs. I was greeted right away with a big smile from a woman named Van. She asked what I was going to need today and had me have a seat right away. Initially I was only going to get a manicure. She did such a great job on my manicure I added the pedicure. I loved how nice she was but the thing that really caught my eye was her asking my name. She constantly would say it as if she wanted to remember it. The phone rang and she knew the customer calling over the phone by their first names. Customers walked in after me and they all knew each other. They make you feel at home and even kind of as if you're family. They handled the customers well and as soon as they were done with one they would attend to the next right away. I would highly recommend this nail salon and will definitely be returning. I had Wan do my nails and she could not even cut them the same length. When I pointed out to her they were not the same length on each hand she argued with me and got very mad. When I told her I liked them long she cut them short. They are acrylic tips. Then She barely put any acrylic on the tips leaving just the tips on so that they were so thin they bent. I asked her to put more on and she said "Just file them the length you want yourself! And do them yourself!" She seriously would not do them the same length or put more acrylic on the tips. She was absolutely rude and very unprofessional. She was so unprofessional and rude, that I got up and walked out. I have NEVER gone to a salon with such horrible customer service and pathetic manicurists. I was actually scared she was going to throw the nail file at me. I do not need drama when I go to the nail salon. Wan's attitude and professionalism was absolutely zero on a level of 1 to 10. One star is too many. read more

I went here on a referral from a friend. I guess Van is the person to see. I saw Tracy and although she was very nice, I was slightly disappointed by my nails. I had a new set put on... and I wear them longish. Not uber long but long. The nail polish was all over my cuticals but hey.. wasnt horrible. After 3 days 1 started peeling off. The nail didn t break but started lifting. Then the next day a 2nd one. Then by Monday a 3rd. I called and politely explained the situation. The lady who answered said no problem come in and she will fix. So I went.. Tracey was visibly irratied, told me my fault for having long nails. Ummmm.. ok. And fixed them. Again.. looked TOTALLY different now from all my other nails. Asked me if I remember the nail polish number from the color? No I didnt. So she plopped the nail rolodex down and sat there while I tried to match the color. No help at all. I've had my nails done for over 20 years and am very good with them. Please be cautious when going to Century. I went once and that appt. went well. The second time I went, I showed Lam, the sister, did my nails. I showed her the length to cut my nails she then cut one nail and I told her that was perfect. She then proceeded to cut the rest of my nails down to the skin. I bleed then noticed it. I asked her why she cut then so short and she wouldn't reply. Then she said I needed to get a new set because my nails were now too short. I just had a new set put on 2 weeks prior to this appt. I didn't get angry and had a new set put on. I had to cancel my pedicure because I didn't bring enough money with me not realizing I was going to have to buy a new set.I got a toe polish change. The girl who polished my toes was great, but Van said to the girl "make sure you show her the first toe because she will complain. I never once complained. Them being unaware of my ability to understand their language called me every name in the book and laughed. I was stunned. I am a very generous tipper, but didn't tip this time. I called to make an appointment today and Van said I am too busy for you. I asked her if that was the case or if I should go elsewhere. She said she was busy all week. Several women in the park I live go to Century also and 3 of them booked their appts. for today two hours after I called to make an appointment for tomorrow. By the way, after Lan cut my nails so short, I got an infection that cost 293.00 in medical bills. I had no intentions of letting her do my nails, but thought Van would be more professional and just handle the job. I am handicapped and just had open heart surgery 2 months ago and can't go that far from home. The only thing I ever said to Van is would she do my nails from now on and Lan can do my pedi's. She was fine with it. Today when I called she was a nightmare...never heard anything like it. When Lan ruined my nails I never even told her I was unhappy. Van knew and I asked Van not to tell Lan, I didn't want to hurt her feelings and this is how I was treated. I am not the type to complain and this is my first time I have ever written something negative for public to see, I just want people to be careful. ZERO STARS! I just had the most embarrassing experience at this place! I went in today after going in a few times in the past and receiving good service. But today was a complete nightmare. Firstly, I came in for a gel mani. There was no one in front of me so they had me pick my colors and sit down. As I sat an older woman came in and asked for a mani. They asked her to wait and she said okay. But instead of making her wait they made me sit down and started her instead. Tried to say she had an appt but I was standing at the door when she came in asking how long it was for a service! I heard the whole conversation and she NEVER mentioned an appt. Ok so no biggie, I can wait the 10 minutes (which I was YELLED at by Van, her response was "really you are in that big of a rush that you can't wait 10 minutes?"). I grabbed my purse and was about to walk out because that little lecture was somewhat embarrassing but I calmed down and sat. Finally when the lady started on me, I wasn't pleased with the color as she was applying it because it was clear and I didn't like it (was looking for a neutral to go under gold sparkles). She cured the gel because she said a second coat would darken it! But it didn't. So with an attitude she scraped it off my nails with a nail file. I told her to just do black because the last time I was in I had black done by Van. Well after this was applied and finished I was just so upset already and she did a terrible job there were spaces on my fingers by the sides that were left unpainted and that stands out with the gel! I finally just asked for it to be removed! So Van stormed over and ripped the gel off my nails and then tried to say that it was $10 for cleaning my cuticles. I said that I would pay but that it wasn't worth the money and that I wouldn't be coming back because THEY were yelling at me saying it was MY FAULT because I picked the colors... mind you I never complained of the colors after the black was applied, just the way it was applied with parts of my nail unpolished!!! So when I said I wouldn't come back VAN SCREAMED F*** YOU IN MY FACE! I was sitting in a chair and she was standing over me! I was so completely shocked and speechless! This has been the most embarrassing experience for me! What kind of customer service is this?! I thought she was going to lunge at me, she was acting like a rabid dog! Being cursed at and belittled because I wasn't happy with the crappy job!? SO unprofessional and so embarrassing! And there were about 5-6 other women in the salon! So after a few back and forth F*** you between Van and I, I walked out with nails looking worse than they did when I walked in. And I will NEVER walk into this place again. BE WARNED THEY ARE FAKE AND RUDE! Customer satisfaction is obviously not a priority at this place! read more
