Please select another provider if you can. Some kind of scam going on to force us to use Auto-Pay. After 10+ years of paying online, suddenly our bank account "could not be found." Rather than calling or emailing us, they send a letter which arrived 10 days after the due date, resulting in a late fee. We paid online the same day, and it went through immediately. They refused to refund late fee unless we enrolled in auto pay. Uh, no. Then they ran the payment through again 10 days later without authorization, and were able to "find the account." Customer service was rude. Account numbers were transposed according to our bank...seems like auto pay saves them money rather than sending paper bills. Epic Fail. One again useless performance from CenturyLink, the worst ISP I have ever had the displeasure of relying on. Service went down on Jan 21 just after midnight. We are still down on Jan 30th with a text message this am once again moving the repair date back to the 31st which has happened over and over. We have completely lost faith in anything they say. Tech line bot a recipe for severe frustration. If you are very persistent and have hours to waste you may get through to a live offshore agent which also does no good. Got a local Supervisor's phone number eventually. She says their hardware supplier keeps sending them defective replacement gear. 6 Mbps DSL on a good day, when it's not dropping out altogether. My land line phone works OK. It's expensive for what you're getting and there's no plan for upgrading service in my neighborhood. If you're in town stick with your cell phone and practically any internet service provider. I was previously with century link for 13 years and had my account terminated for non payment which is completely acceptable, but when I finally got the money to pay off all the past due plus the new deposit. they told me I would have to wait two weeks to be reconnected . so when you don't pay they have somebody standing by to disconnect you asap but when you do the reconnection is not a priority to them at alll. they already have the money m, nothing is to be gained by them acting proficiently and expediting the reconnection thzey have you where. they want you again at their mercy! customer service is awe full the only thing easy to do is pay your bill. Easy to sign up, not so easy to cancel So I went to the CL website to cancel. * Filled in the form and was told can't do it, issue with account. What issue? I have no evidence but would not be surprised if this is a standard response to a cancellation request. Tells me to chat so I go to chat. * Chat says it can't help, says to call this number. I call. * After bot on that number asks the same question three times (infinite loop) I go back to chat. * Chatbot says call the same #. Another infinite loop. * I somehow get another # and it picks up after 19:30et and immediately drops the call. * I call it again and finally get a human at 15:14et and get the hard cell on staying with CL. Am I aware of the "hotspot risk"? Tells me how my new service TMobile cares more about phone than internet and will drop me like a bad habit when someone picks up a phone. At the point I'm just about to scream harrassment he FINALLY agrees to cancel. About two hours to do this. Tip: I should have said I was moving to I don't know, Reno (no CL coverage). Or out of the country. Would have saved the time arguing. I've been on 5G about a week and it's been working very well. I'm in somewhat rural NM and understand that I may get higher performance due to less congestion and I'm getting up to 280 Mbps, 120 low depending upon position in the house. Considering a mesh system to even it out but don't know that I really need it now. An acquaintance has been using the same TM gateway for a year in Denver with far more dense traffic and has not had issues either. My CL 40Mbps DSL service (only one I could get) topped out at 36, 25-28 typical. Customer service/care: I continue to receive survey after survey from TMobile. I receive nothing like this from CL. I had $0 setup cost and 100-280Mbps service with TM. What would you do? I've been with Verizon over 20 years but I'm going to listen to TM's phone offers. But I'll listen to Verizon, too. They do not offer anything faster then what I have for the location of my business. I have called several times to see what options I have, only to be hung up on. My father was a customer of Century Link. He passed away and it took over 5 months to get CL to disconnect the account. Phone operators refused to disconnect the account and referred me to local offices. local offices referred me to corporate. There is no email listed to email customer service on the CL website. There is a chatbot but that couldn't compute the disconnect service so, magically, CL kept billing month over month to a deceased person not using the internet (oh btw, by the claim 'they cant track if a user is using bandwidth'....) this place is a scam and the FCC needs to investigate. do better #centurylink read more

We called in to cancel our agreement back in spring 2020 and got a new internet provider. Centurylink send us 2 letters with payment due after this, and in January 2021 they have referred us to a debt collection agency. It's nearly impossible to reach them by phone and the debt collection agency is of course only interested in collecting money. Shittiest company around. Locally outsourced but call their 800 number and get call centers from around the world. Some of the worst customer service around. My service stopped working randomly in early March, called, did the usual BS, was told they needed to get a tech out - a few days later the tech comes and says that it's their problem then leaves. The issue is never resolved and I get a message telling me it is(and if I want to rate their customer service). So I cancel or try to. I get transferred four times and ended up spending over an hour on the phone. When I call to ask about the shipping label to send their shitty equipment back, I get the pleasure of speaking to someone who not only talks over me but hangs up on me when I say I haven't received the label. I called back and got an awesome CSR named Arthur who at least explained the whole process and told me to call back soon if I don't receive the label. Welcome to Hell! The customer is a defenseless Victim! After many hours on the phone with CenturyLink, confirmation numbers, credit confirmation numbers in hand, none of it makes any difference because the bill just keeps going up for no reason! After 2 1/2 hours on one call they finally lost me on the fifth transfer. With every transfer, they required the same information over and over and over again. They also added $13 for antivirus and something they could not explain about wiring, both of which were slammed items--not asked for. As others have noted the service is terrible.... the billing has been bait and switch from the beginning. It is like going to a gas station paying for 5 gallons and only receiving one gallon then being charged extra service fees. I have been trying to call CenturyLink here in the Santa Fe office and have gotten busy signals for days. I hope someone starts a class action lawsuit. The public utilities commission should open an official audit of their billing practices, but the New Mexico commission is a good ol' boys club that has not done its job in the 20+ years we've been struggling with insurance and utility issues in this state. Anybody with a solution, please come forward! We are leaving Santa Fe more for these reasons than anything else. "Let me get you over to this department," then 5 minutes later and giving them all of my information a second time, "Oh, let me transfer you to our cancellation department." The service has been down more in the past 3 weeks than it's been functioning. Repeatedly the the alleged support team based in foreign countries tells me that there's nothing they can do and that local techs are working to fix it. Invariably there is some estimated time to fix it, and of course it's not done at that time. We were literally without internet the whole weekend and nearly all of last work week. They got it up late in the day on friday, it worked Saturday until 5ish and is down again. Tis is a multi-billion dollar company and they cannot provide their core service with any reasonable level of reliability. However frustrated you are with your other provider that you're looking at ISP reviews, do not switch to CenturyLink. Avoid at all costs. Unbelievably terrible. Literally the worst internet in Santa Fe. I am on hold with customer service as I type. They're telling me they have extended wait time, which doesn't surprise me. The last loyalty dept person extended me a refund of 220 and then knocked off 25 a month. Who cares tho? It doesn't make my internet work. I was with Comcast but when they began to double bill me for a year, then lied about it (company wide lying is part of their training) I had to get the FCC involved, so I will NOT go back to them (after ripping me off for a year and lying about it, they then charged me 125 for leaving Comcast!!). I have had the WORST experience with Century Link. I had their service installed in Santa Fe in December and have been having problems with it for almost an entire year. Comcast isn't available in my area, so they are unfortunately my only choice. The interent would constantly cut out and when it did work, it was slow as all hell. I've sat on the phone with their tech support department for at least an hour more than once. In the 3 or 4 times I have had a technician come to my house, they were on time ONCE. You are given a 4 hour appointment window, so when someone shows up half an hour AFTER that and then has to do hours of work, your day is pretty much gone. We requested to put our account on vacation suspension (no service, no bill) to explore other options, but the order was never put through and we were billed for an entire expensive month, on top of the entire month that the internet was supposed to be working, but was not. I've wasted so much time and money on these jerks, don't do the same if you have the choice. UPDATE: After sitting at home for NINE HOURS and calling them 4 times, I was told that the battery was dead in some device that was needed to test my connection. The tech never called me. Our experience with Centurylink has been horrible. We moved to Santa Fe and purchased a $99 per month bundle that was supposed to include internet, phone and Direct TV. Our first bill was for $154. Our second bill was for $229. This is not what we signed up for! Clearly this company is engaging in deceptive sales practices, just like the banditos of the old Wild West, but working from distant corporate offices instead of hiding out in caves.
